I was actually thinking about this the other day and I'm not sure if a shardblade could hurt a mistborn if they were burning the right metals. If they were burning aluminum or perhaps even pewter the investiture in their bodies might deflect a blade not sure though. But over all We have had much deeper access to the mistborn power set in both cosmere novels and in additional materials. This has helped us establish a ruleset to live by in mistborn. Eventually the same will be true with SA and teasing out the rules is what excites me because I know there are hints here and there of the relationships and of things to come. For example before era 2 we knew a lot less about compounding and many feruchemical powers but many of those mysteries have been solved with enough new mysteries that it is still interesting. Now with those additional rules it becomes obvious why the LR was so powerful. So I'm not sure If i would say one is superior to the other... they are just different and have different parts that need to to still be revealed.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
MonsterMetroid replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Do you work for the SCP Foundation?! On a more serious note sorry to hear that! buerocracy and red tape is my least favorite part of all my jobs I have ever had, so I can definitely relate to most of what you are talking about. -
theory [OB] Adolin and Shallan will not last
MonsterMetroid replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think this would really depend on the Vorin marriage oath. We only have the one example from the stormfather (which i would quote but I dont have the ebook) but I have a feeling that was a bit unusual in script as far as alethi weddings go. If they promise "til death do us part" like many people do IRL I think it would still be breaking an oath in vorin eyes. This is a good point, I think this also has to do with the oath or contract that was formed. If he did swear to Always serve sadeas then yeah that seems like an oath that could be amicably bent if both parties agree. If the agreement was more "I will serve you in return you offer me protection and lands" then it would seem like an open ended contract. But this is all sepculation without being able to see what they actually swore to *Shrug* -
@JoyBlu asked some pretty interesting questions to Brandon that might shed some light, but not as much as we might like. So there may be something to do with the colors but of course since we didn't get a confirmation we cant know. I feel like Mraize had to bring the bird for a specific purpose or in case of a possible situation. This kind of leads me to believing that it has some sort of cognitive function whether it is blocking emotional manipulation or it is actually causing it I don't know.

theory [OB] Adolin and Shallan will not last
MonsterMetroid replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
I originally just made the assumption because of the way they viewed Dalinars and Navanis marriage it seemed to me to they probably didnt approve of divorce. The only applicable WoB i could find on the matter was this: (full entry found here) So we know that the Vorin take Oaths seriously and Marriage is definitely an Oath. But it will be interesting to see. -
I can't speak for Rainier, and personally for me it isn't a huge deal but it does break my immersion a bit. A lot of Lyn's, like OPs original post makes you wonder if you missed something in her backstory or a hint of her character when often times the answer is you didn't. So there are two ways to fix this, one you give lyn more screen time and background to make her feel more fleshed out, or two you give her less and make her feel more flavorful rather than interactive. The problem is neither one of these solutions work super well, If you give her more time we start to run into a problem with too many characters and POV's to juggle, which is something that brandon wants to avoid from what he learned in his writing of the WoT. But if you decrease the amount of time to her, since she is based on a real person it would probably hurt said persons feelings. Sorry I'm not the best at explaining things and like I said its not a huge deal for me but hopefully that might explain why it could take someone out of being immersed in the book. Also I wish I had a character

Wow I never caught that before neat! I missed that Kaladin lost hoids flute and that it is anything important to begin with. I also went to the WoR signing in scotsdale arizona and people kept asking questions about Hoid... and I was like who in the heck is Hoid? So yeah missed that too originally lol

Hey guys I just came across this WoB on arcanum, and I apologize if this is common knowledge but it is new to me! Source So what does this change to you guys? Does this mean Jezrien was immediately forced to beyond or was he himslef captured in a gem (like some sort of spren in a fabrial)?

woah guys look at this WoB that just appeared on Arcanum source So that's pretty interesting! -
Szeth, the Stone Shamans, and Taln's Honorblade
MonsterMetroid replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ah! Interesting thanks for the WoBs. Come to think of it... Do you guys think there is an additional connection to the heralds and their blades besides the shallow bond when they are holding them? When the heralds find out that Taln died, they did not go looking for his blade. This tells me that they must have know it was with him. So I would assume that when a herald dies their blade goes with their body/spirit to braize. Except when Jez was killed, the way moash killed him must have allowed the blade to stay because it either severed/stole the connection to the blade. I dont know what do you guys think? -
Szeth, the Stone Shamans, and Taln's Honorblade
MonsterMetroid replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've assumed this is the case but where does it say this. Legitimately asking I always assumed they still had their physical bodies but that they were just transported to Braize somehow. Haven't put much thought into this interesting -
theory [OB] Kelsier the Fused
MonsterMetroid replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I guess I figure at this point in the timeline since he helped with Era 2 mistborn spoilers that he must have a body now in this timeline. what kind? No idea. -
[OB] Adolin-Shallan-Kaladin Discussion
MonsterMetroid replied to Harbour's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah unfortunately I agree with this. The thread has gone on so long that the viewpoints we have at this point is very slim in comparison to the shard as a whole as many people who participated earlier in the thread now actively avoid this thread leaving fewer viewpoints and less meaningful discussion. -

[OB] What parts of Oathbringer touched you?
MonsterMetroid replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm loving these answers... Even @Patrick Star's Ehehe. Another one I just listened to was this story skar tells: That whole section is amazing! probably especially for @Kaladin StormBlessed (she is the one lyn is based off of right?) but the feeling I got hearing from Skar's perspective the feeling of hopelessness turned to hope and the reason all these men started to believe and change becomes so clear. Kaladin is their light when all was dark. We see the darkness in kaladin because we get to see his viewpoint a lot, but to everyone else from the outside Kaladin is always so optimistic and hoping for unrealistic outcomes and making many of them happen. -
So actually the amazing @dungeonfood was helping me out earlier and let me tell you he is a champ. I was trying to find usages of silver adjectives for things that are made of aluminum. Like for instance some WoB somewhere said that Shallans necklace is aluminum. So I figure if I compare the descriptions it might give us some insight... specifically about whether Azures sword might be awakened aluminum. Which if it was would be insane! But I swore that azures blade was described as silver but he could only find instances of the hilt being silvery, so I can associate whether her sword description correlates to other aluminum descriptions.

[OB] Will Shallan and Adolin have a child?
MonsterMetroid replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hmmm if they did have a child it is another viewpoint for the back 5 basically. Not sure I could see this going either way. But since I think they are going to get divorced I kind of hope not. -
Dear Dreamstorm,
please teach me your ways of getting such high rep/content count ratio.
Sincerely (ok maybe more "in jest"
)

[OB] What parts of Oathbringer touched you?
MonsterMetroid replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
Man I forgot about this I have't gotten here during my second reading but that scene Crushed me! watching Beard and the Parsh killing each other I was honestly Kind of numb feeling what kaladin must have been when Elhokar kicked the bucket. Also I really wanted beard to meet lopen -
[OB] Unpopular Opinion: Evi's death was underwhelming
MonsterMetroid replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah it was super interesting reading Dalinars viewpoints for me because it was like learning that your favorite, kind hearted lovable uncle, was a complete and utter jerk in the past. Even thought it hinted at it a lot in the previous books with the blackthorne most feared man alive, conquered the kingdom by himself, it was still super shocking -
[OB] Adolin-Shallan-Kaladin Discussion
MonsterMetroid replied to Harbour's topic in Stormlight Archive
Who is Andolin? sounds like an instrument or something. I agree with this. Not that brandon doesnt want to but Adolins viewpoint doesnt offer as much as the other characters viewpoints do except for in one regard. And that being a regular guy in a Radiants world. Brandon used him in this regard in both Kolinar and Theylenah having him watch kaladin save them from boulders and jasnah kick butt. I think Brandon would like to use him more but to keep the book short it is much more page effecient to view things from others perspectives So we see Shallan disjointed, Dalinar's inner conflict or Kaladins... kaladiness?
