Long Game 94: The Call of the Forest of Hell
Archer replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aye. But the mask pass is probably the only reason people didn't confidently go after you, so it worked out Also I forgot to mention that I liked the three new players getting the Thief role. I just forgot Illwei subbed in for one, otherwise I'd have looked to exploit that guessable part of the distro Would have been very fun if Alv got exed and 3 crossbows were then randomly distributed into the mix -
Long Game 94: The Call of the Forest of Hell

What a game! Full credit to the village for locking us out of PMs, glowpasting me, crossbowing me, C1 voting for me and Mat, actually exing two of us, and VitCing just enough to be annoying. I had some notes prepared about the GMing, but I'll condense them into there was a mechanism for trouble (IRL health problems etc) and there was signs of trouble (missed giving info to Aman, bungled VCs), so the IM should have stepped in. I recognize that Striker was dealing with stuff of their own, so what happened was a gap in our net of supervision coverage. My team didn't play this game the way I would have. Aman could have ensured DeTess went down instead of Mat C1, Mat jumped on me for voting TKN, and Alpha made unexpected kill and item passing choices. I think that awesome! On paper, they probably lessened our odds of winning, but the results speak for themselves. The variety of approaches we employed made it difficult to analyze us as a team. Alpha deserves enormous credit for doing so well in their first elim game. You and Mat did a lot of heavy lifting, so congratulations on the unlikely victory. -
I'm glad there's a role based around the man who willingly chooses neon green as their doc color But instead I'll sign up as Georg Wasintown, a farmer Welcome!

Counterpoint: he can probably get away with the lie if he's clever. There's something to be said for thread fatigue. By the time I'm dead in four IRL days, maybe people would have forgotten about it. Or the people who might be a problem can be shot. TKN cannot be trusted. What do you think of all this, @Steeldancer?- 1163 replies

Did anyone do some spellbook shenanigans on TKN? If not, this is a straight up lie. But I imagine when I flip he'll say it was misdirection and get away with having wasted a round. Y'all are really going to believe TKN over me? Might I remind you that they were lurking during rollovers, have broken from their usual voting patterns, and has been strongly meta aware. If I could vote for them, I would. I know it's hard to see from your end, but I really hope you go for them hard after I flip. Don't let them wriggle out of this.- 1163 replies

That feels like a secret you should have kept. I figured I was back to being trusted enough by actual villagers that I wouldn't get shot. But there's enough persistent mentioning of me by certain people that I am either being set up for an exe or an elim crossbow shot so I did what I did. Ironically one of the external protects I was considering was Sart. Devo and Kas were too obvious, and beyond that I don't think I could guess who'd be NKed with any better accuracy than I could guess where a constrained crossbow shot would hit. Steeldancer (you're welcome) Mm yes it's very convenient that you mentioned submitting an action that failed against Kas. Perhaps even very close to the truth You've been pwned by a Shade Expert- 1163 replies

Welp. That wasn't supposed to happen. I am indeed a Shade Expert and I self protected. Sorry, Sart Why would you want to confuzzle us, Fae? You've been flying under the radar so I have half a mind to just park my vote on you until I see a good reason to do otherwise. Fae- 1163 replies

A township near me had a power outage scheduled for maintenance and there was such an uproar that they had to cancel it so people could watch the game. Good thing too since the Leafs won their first playoff series in 19 years. Then the Oilers won their round too. I got no sleep. 10 out of 10, I recommend I relate to that mindset. Full pass, you're village again that changes my read of that. Fake claim no beuno- 1163 replies

Sorry I just got to the discussion of why it was significant Reads: -Devo: definitely village for leading to Aman’s death / neutrals don’t exist, right? -Kas: definitely village for confirmed being NKed N1 -Mat: strong village for being Aman’s vote target D1 >check if defense of DeTess -Fae: weak village for same role as Aman, wild behavior -Illwei: weak village for pinging everyone to make odds of VITCing close Aman vote lower. Scratch that, unclear it would have mattered -DeTess: weak elim for halfhearted voting of Aman JNV: 100% evil for invoking math Follow up: what was TJ’s Aman progression – Kas alludes to it, can’t find it >figure out if TKN change of mind mid post on Aman vote is village or not >Illwei not bussing >Aman didn’t vote – knew he’d die, trust nothing, Ash Fae, why claim? DeTess, why the hesitance? Illwei, why no vote on Aman? Alv, why VITC? TJ, what was your Aman progression? TKN what convinced you to vote? Devo good job, Kas good job on the followup that's what I got for now. I'm caught up now but I'm not in a competent headspace. There was a lot of hockey yesterday- 1163 replies

I'm confused about a lot of what you're saying. You seem to want to vote for me, but maybe feel that doing that twice in a row isn't a good look? Then you're sticking with a vote on Mat despite that change in information (worth noting that Mat voted for me), so it's essentially just a Rolexe. But if Mat is evil, why didn't they self pres onto DeTess? Better yet, get a teammate to VitC onto me to give them a 1/3 chance of getting exed instead of 1/2 in the event of someone like Kas doing what they did. Actually they wouldn't have known my vote was moving in the post where they committed to staying put because they ninjad me. Then there's this not CC thing. Why would you word it like that - its presenting going after low profile folk, but not horribly inactive, as only being as good as a CC. I don't have a lot of elim suspects outside of the mid and low profile tiers, so I find this suspicious. It might not be a productive route of inquiry, but entirely discounting putting any pressure on them seems convenient if say two elims are in that group, which might explain the lack of swings yesterday.- 1163 replies

seeing as I'm not a former evil teammate of yours *chuckles* I'm in danger I see. I misread what you said as you saying you weren't fully insane or something. But clearly you're fully insane if you're engaging in a witch hunt By the way, my light assumption in the failed NK of you scenario was that your partner (and maybe the Writer) were village. Oh no! Anyway. I was wondering what you were going on about. How do you feel about Devo trying to egg Mat into voting on you D1? Is this an elim tell? This also didn't sit well with me. I also didn't like their vote on me D1 Would genuinely be okay with people treating this like D1 and RNGing a vote before they go. We're a little lacking in the vote department so far. I'm also guilty of that, so Araris. It ain't much, but it's honest work. But seriously, is that list top clears or trust to sus? Why is TJ so high? "I see this as an absolute win", you'll say when you go insane from submitting the NK. And we won't question it- 1163 replies

Why Ash? You wanted to kill them last Day too and I wasn't sure what the case was there Makes sense if not because of the obvious, but because you mentioned getting a PM. Edit: now I'm confused. If Kas wasn't attacked, who was NKed? I think you can guess who'd shoot Kas first. In fact, I request it! .... nah Sorry, I didn't quote you in the response because I was lazy. The gist of it was that my self pres options were you and Mat, and I'd come to the conclusion Mat is village. I'm working on getting better at self identifying when I'm wrong, which was helpful in this case. Just not a lot if you're village too. But that's a social constraints problem because I lacked true agency under the circumstances. Kas, what does you bring insane actually do to you then?- 1163 replies

I lived! And Tea Leaf really self voted. Hi, Illwei! I was committed this game to giving e!Mat more of a fight than I did in the MR. I promised myself that I wouldn't ignore the annoyance tell again, at least not until it was proven wrong. So I was on that like a hawk when it manifested, but I've since decided that I was just making things up that I wanted to be true. If I'm wrong, I will be flipping tables. But unfortunately, I'm fairly sure Mat is innocent. I'd wager DeTess is too at this point. I think there'd probably be a free pass C1 for VitCing. Enough that an elim could have put a vote on me to give one of the others a better chance at survival. Tie Guys are usually read as village. Although Devo was less spontaneous chaosmongery than a usual village Tie Guy, so I'm maybe open to the possibility of e!Devo and e!DeTess.- 1163 replies

That's the conclusion I've arrived at, yes. So, slight update, this whole time I thought the sequence of events was you post, TKN votes you, then in my head I'm like, that's a reasonable point, Mat is interacting a lot with a poke vote. Good observation, TKN. Turns out Alpha is the one that voted you. So this Mat obsession I attributed to TKN isn't as inflated as I thought it was. TKN I'm out of suspects I actually feel comfortable C1ing. Please standby as I try to come up with something other than mild agreement that I make the most sense to exe right now :D.- 1163 replies

longish game + multiple mechanics = distro flexibility I'm side-eying that level of confidence in a particular number in the context of e!you last game being fairly focused on elim mechanics oh well now I can't vote for you As a player, I was treating them as pseudo elims. They were a minority faction with their own communication channel whose existence threatened mine. Derp clear for not asking this in the elim doc I'm very split on Mat, and it mostly stems from his post about 'bad jokes equals votes *shocked Pikachu face*'. The two tells I've got for him are he gets annoyed when you used the wrong formula to get the right answer when he's evil, and he does village busywork (eg ISOs, reads lists) to hide disengagement. Unfortunately, e!he probably course corrected any mistakes after last game, but his engagement has seemed more natural this game. When CTRL+Fing to read Mat posts, I noticed that TKN's comment history so far has only consisted of talking about/to Alpha and Mat. My current theory is TKN decided early on that they will vote this round (which was a big decision for them), chose Mat, and has been self-conscious about that decision, making them focus on it in their posts. Along the way they fooled me into voting for poor innocent Mat with their tricksy guiles. It's either that or it's e!Mat, v!TKN, but this theory sits better with me. TKN- 1163 replies

Allow me to circle back to this carefully worded accusation so I can make it more pointed. I have recently learned that this is an irrefutable tell and would probably do well just voting Mat every time he shows it until proven otherwise. Mat TKN When I first read the second paragraph, I was prepared to sus Sart for hypocrisy. But then they actually did transition into person analysis instead of just saying that we should. I also think the DeTess accusation is fair, given that this was a (sadly unrealized until it was too late, RIP) indication of their evilness from the MR. I agree with everything Sart says here, so I'm getting good vibes. I don't see it. People make posts saying 'hi, I'm here but I'm sorry I'm not here' to kick things off all the time, and they're Non Alignment Indicative (NAI). Why do you think it's an over-estimation? I think you're in the wrong place, my friend :P.- 1163 replies

As I hinted at in the dead doc, MAT I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE. But I also was entirely fooled by SILHOUETTE who I will also SEEK JUSTICE FROM FOR BEING VERY POCKETED. Seriously, I could have done better by just flipping coins this game. Good game, all. (Sorry, team) -

Essentially a Rioter who voted for Person A publicly can drop their vote and move a vote from A to B, causing a three vote shift. I see that as overpowered in games with as close margins as we tend to have. I'll note though that in this game, it's less of a shift since it's only your own vote that moves TKN Mat Why is your text so small? Even the one liner was, so it's probably not c/p from the elim doc Publicly? :P.- 1163 replies

Well the shortform is going to be T LF. And if you squint at the back half of your name it kinda looks like Leaf. So in my head you're going to be Tea Leaf. Unless you have another nickname you prefer. Fair earning though, I can't do the fancy letters so it's just be Fae. :P. Welcome to the game, by the way! Nice to have you aboard. I'm not sure I follow this bit. If you cast a vote on a main wagon then switch off to a vanity vote, it has no potency. If you go from vanity to main wagon, it's more impactful, but it was already a main wagon. Elims meanwhile could vote for a teammate, making it look like they'll die, then move their vote elsewhere to cause someone else to go. Counter point: see my stance on Rioters who lose their vote and add a vote being OP. IIRC, in the PM for the third most recent game TKN was getting approved was the last time I mentioned it. It makes bussing too easy, making it a pain to read the room.- 1163 replies

I entirely misremembered what that mechanic was. Update: I hate it. A 20% chance of failure isn't enough to deter most players and it makes EoDs less effective. I'll be throwing strong shade at anyone who adjusts the outcome of a close exe unexpectedly through this. This reminded me of my plans to give @The Last Fæ the nickname Tea Leaf- 1163 replies

I remember thinking about doing a distro analysis pre write when there were less signups, and I'm glad I didn't. 17 is close to 16, so probably four elims. Maybe five because it's an outnumber wincon and I feel like with larger groups, you need to trend towards proportionately more elims. Being annoyed can be a Mat elim tell. #SponsoredPost also whhhy This is an interesting deviation from your usual stance about vote manip being a neutral ability. * Sam the Witch hated receiving spam letters. They scoffed as they pulled a flyer out of their mailbox. "Cult? What ever happened to getting your magic through gardening. These pyjama priests didn't even remember to fill in the name of their devil." Indeed, the rules document still read that 'cultist can send an action to sacrifice a player to [text].'- 1163 replies
