The one I am now trying to find a mention of in the books is pain, I seem to recall someone (almost certainly Breeze) Soothing pain, if so then yeah, that basically speaks for itself, also duralumin fueled riot? Mega torture. So yeah, never underestimate a rioter.
-
Another thing to remember is that Moiraine has an upper limit to the amount of power she can use at one time, Kel is only limited by the amount of metal on him, I think Kel has the advantage in an incredibly short (read: instant) or a long match while Moiraine has the advantage in the middle.

It depends what classifies as an 'emotion' really. There are some pretty weird ones mentioned in the books, I think hunger was at one point, if you Rioted that as hard as possible that's a difficult distraction to ignore. I think fatigue was mentioned too, so yeah if in the middle of a fight you suddenly felt starving and exhausted, not much you could do. I always thought that people underestimated soothers/rioters. Emotional allomancy ftw!

How to defend against shard plate, shard blades, wind runners, ect.
Voidus replied to RJWB0mb's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ah yes, I forgot about reverse lashings for a second, I was all caught up in solving everything with crossbows Yeah, I keep trying to think of something to use against Szeth, but his manoeuvrability just makes it darn near impossible. I think that actually the ballista might work then, even if it's bound by a reverse lashing, he still has to be near whatever he lashed it to, so yeah, at the very least he'd get knocked out by the flying stone chips. Of course there is the problem of how to force him to come down a corridor since, as has been pointed out walls are basically meaningless to him. -
Well it's just that otherwise the Dhakor couldn't do their teleporting trick. They didn't do anything with their bones at all so it HAS to be based on their chanting. Also their bone symbols didn't make themselves they had to chant them into existence so yeah I'm pretty sure the chanting is a pretty integral part of the Dhakor magic. As for the Chayshan, it's very fluid it's not a series of static poses so I really don't think they could be using the body to represent symbols, otherwise it would be like if the elantrians just drew 50 symbols all at once without stopping, the Dor wouldn't be able to pick which one to follow.

I was pretty sure it's been more or less explicitly stated that we won't be seeing anymore mistborn/feruchemists. I think that the mistborn for the second trilogy will almost certainly be hemalurgically created and I can't think of any moral way to rip out chunks of peoples soul I'd really love for there to be another twinawesome (I think I stole this from someone but not sure who) but yeah, it's already been done and as Brandon always says it's limitations that make things interesting and TLR had pretty limitless abilities.
-
Thankyou both for those, I kinda like both, hemalurgical metals aren't necessarily divided up similarly to allomantic or feruchemical so either could work I suppose, I'd lean towards Thoughts view but yeah, could go either way. I love theorizing about atium alloys! Actually another thought here, we know that feruchemically speaking Brass is a physical and not cognitive metal, so should a pewter spike be necessary to steal it? the RPG is really messing up with my hemalurgy ideas (Also I find it quite counterintuitive that a brass spike cannot steal feruchemical brass)

Ah thankyou! I just feel that there's quite a bit of info in there to be dug up that's probably not on the wiki yet. Now to make my way through it!
-
Yeah, I was just thinking that that's a possibility for Marsh, if he ever gets a (f) nicrosil spike then he doesn't need to consume atium anymore, just use it for storage. But I never thought to apply that to TLR he does know about nicrosil so yeah, could definitely work of course this just raises even more questions as to why on Scadrial he felt the need to go about looking like an old geezer

The language idea seems good as a focus. Elantris-Written Dhakor-Spoken ChayShan-Bodylanguage/sign language

Hey I'm trying to work out again just what exactly everything does hemalurgically but I keep running into a problem with gold, according to the RPG it steals feruchemical temporal abilities (which don't actually exist as they are physical in feruchemy) but apparently pewter steal feruchemical physical abilities including gold, electrum, Cadmium and bendalloy. So yeah basically what the heck does gold steal?

Put quite simply, the reason that Shallans fathers soulcaster didn't work after being repaired is that it never did. I realise it's probably a bit of a stretch to have both soulcasters being fake but I like my theory so I'm just going to ignore that and bribe you all with cookies. This is also an explanation as to why the ghostbloods want the soulcaster back so badly so that no one discovers that Brightlord Davar was actually a surgebinder, this basically all hangs around the fact that Scadriels forms of investiture were all hereditary so it may be the case on Roshar as well. Right, now COOKIES FOR EVERYONE!!!

Hey just wondering if the RPG can be used for citation and if there is a specific template for citing it.

I don't know, Kylar got almost 1000 more votes last round than granny weatherwax. I think that he'll probably win that side. Just going off of actual abilities I think he pretty much has to take the prize, immortality, invincibility and invisibility are a hard combination to beat. He has a decent fan base as well, or at least he's been getting similar amounts of votes as the others
-
It just doesn't come up enough to need it's own name. TLR is the only one.
-
I'd say that if Kylar went up against Rake he'd stand a fair chance, he's got the fans as well as a fair plausability of winning.
-
And there are basically never going to be any more like TLR unless someone gets either insane with hemalurgy or Harmony decides to make one (which seems unlikely)

I already covered grenades. On flamethrowers, they are quite heavy and basically make you a sitting duck, as soon as this technique became well known sliders would look for them, drop the bubble for half a second and shoot the gas tank, which would effectively take out the person holding it as well as anyone near him. It's just too commited as well, flamethrowers don't last too long, you have to carry the fuel around with you so you can't take too much and yeah as I said it's incredibly obvious what you're doing, quite easy to pick out and then take down. Gas grenades aren't a bad idea, but then once again as soon as too many people use it, there's quite an easy countermeasure so basically any slider would just carry gas masks around.
-
Yeah I think that it was said that their are real soulcasters aswell, seems a bit weird to me as well that so many of the ardents would be able to. Surgebinding would have to be incredibly rare so yeah, I think there are fabrials that do it.

How to defend against shard plate, shard blades, wind runners, ect.
Voidus replied to RJWB0mb's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think having a ballista in a corridor is a little impractical But yeah I suppose if you knew one was coming then that's not a bad idea. At the very least you'd get him to use up most of his stormlight switching from ground to ceiling to wall continuously. Add a couple of crossbows... actually now that I think about it, if it's just szeth then you don't really need a ballista -
You've got to get close enough to use it first, and they can see what you are doing long before you can actually kill them (flamethrowers are quite difficult to hide) and it's impractical to have everyone carrying a flamethrower. So yeah, all in all I don't think it would work too well.

This is only late because I was stuck in a Cadmium Bubble
Voidus replied to Voidus's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Yay! Waffles! I'll take a look at the wiki and see what I can add Edit: Just looking through theorylands database again, I think someone made a mistake in the Vericon report someone says that a nickname for an Iron Feruchemist is a slider when that should either be a bendalloy misting or it should be a skimmer (not sure how to go about getting this changed if that's possible) -
Just realised I never posted an introduction whoops! Well, er... it was because some scheming pulser stuck me in a cadmium bubble. Anyway, Greetings all! I found this forum a couple weeks ago from the coppermind wiki which I checked when I was having some thoughts about how the time bubbles worked. Then I found the forums and started devouring all of the threads which got me even more interested in the cosmere, then I found the interview database and the annotations so I've basically been pulling very late nights for the last week or so and have (almost) caught up to the present (hopefully anyway) so yeah that's basically it. (Also to whoever came up with the names both 17th shard and the coppermind wiki you are AWESOME) EDIT: Oh and I've finished all the cosmere books (Just finished warbreaker and AoL before coming here, and in the last week I've re-read them all to freshen up) and I love coming up with new theories, so expect a lot more topics from me in the near future once I've gone through all my notes!

Does the Cosmere Universe open up for a sci-fi setting?
Voidus replied to oGGe's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yea I can think of a few different authors who use it, I'd add the inheritance cycle.
