  1. Actually I thought that cutting the spine just killed you, not paralysed you. But yeah that's pretty much how I thought of it too.
  2. Yea, don't mess with thermite, it's dangerous stuff. I'm still trying to come up with something good to use against a bendalloy bubble but there's really not much you can do, unless you trap the area beforehand.
  3. I meant that they would need to be powerful due to the magnitude of the emotions they are trying to soothe, compounding duralumin would give you near-infinite control over others but also near-infinite empathy, you'd either need a soother+nicroburst combo or a ridiculously strong soother (talking TLR strength) EDIT: On re-reading I think you meant that part at the end whoops I just meant they might find themselves so fond of the compounder that they are unable to try to manipulate them.
  4. Yea Ironeyes beat me to it on that one, if it's only through air that allomancy lines can pass then wrapping kel up in air would do absolutely nothing This is a tough fight to call, I would really like to say Kel because Moiraine was never my favourite character but yea, hard to say for sure.
  5. On Rashek, It's never really stated one way or another, most people assume that he got it by eating a lerasium bead but IIRC lerasium was made from the WoA anyway so I think that it is well within the wells powers to give someone lerasium level (or potentially higher) allomancy.
  6. Hopefully they won't make her unable to use the power at all again (One of the smaller oversights I've seen but it still annoyed me) but as long as all she can do is trap him in air, he can still push/pull and all kinds of other things. I think it basically comes down to how much emotional allomancy can effect her.
  7. Yea, Ever since I first played Age Of Empires I've been a bit obsessed with medieval warfare and most particularly siege weapons. Ballistae come in at #2 after trebuchets for me. But yea, I reined myself in before I started dreaming of teams of anti-shardbearer catapults So yea, good old crossbows are probably the best and safest way, much easier to disperse throughout the army and still somewhat useful even if they don't encounter a shardbearer.
  8. It does, sorry I'm not great at explaining my ideas I overlook things too much. I meant that it would require a conscious act but it is well within the powers of a shardpool to grant magic to the user (I think Lerasium was made from the WoA in the first place wasn't it?)
  9. Or are trying to cover up the fact that it wasn't. Perhaps they are a group with similar abilities and don't want it to get out? All completely speculation and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it all turned out to be false but still it's possible.
  10. My point was just that if their carapace IS shardplate then there would't be any parshendi sharbearers, or rather all of them would be. I still think that, considering their carapaces are quite a bit lighter than steel and that shard plate cannot even by used without the enhanced strength it provides, that their carapace would either need to grow heavier (why) or the shardplate would need to be made of VERY thick carapace. Also if they grew into the next stage where it's thicker then it would no longer be able to fit men.
  11. I think the other use of emotional allomancy would be in conincing Moiraine that kel is not a threat, if he soothed all feeling of being threatened then made sure she knew he wasn't a darkfriend then she can't attack.
  12. I would think that's because she didn't actually use any of it. Kinda like if you gave her lerasium and she never burned it she wouldn't get stronger.
  13. Lerasium (correct me if I'm wrong) is basically just the shardpool in solid form, much as the mists are the same in gaseous form, all are just the concentrated power of preservation. However the solids are more limited in that they may only do 1 thing. I think I can find some quotes for all this, just wanted to get this out. Anyway I think it's very likely that use of a shardpool could grant you access to its magic system.
  14. i dont think they could exactly do nothing, all they'd need is a tennis racket grenade approaches border of bubble WHACK grenade sails back to origin.
  15. I would think that was just part of the cover, he obviously would have wanted to keep it secret as well so he claimed expertise then said it was broken.
  16. Most immediate problem I see is that that carapace of the parshendi is stated to be incredibly light, the opposite is true of shard plate. They also didn't even touch their own dead, if the reason they didn't like others touching was fear of stealing shards then they would definitely carry their dead away. We also see a parshendi sharbearer at some point and he obviously looks quite different. So yea, not a bad theory but I think it would take a lot of explaining
  17. Yea I think a Ballista is your best bet in terms of siege, a catapult is much more inaccurate, the scatter would be huge unless you were fairly close, and considering your shooting dozens of rocks at a time, you're more likely to hit your own army and kill quite a few people per shot. I think that either a ballista would be best, or dispersing teams of 10 or so crossbow men, with some cavalry for support throughout your army to counter them would work best. (or both, ballista for initial assault, crossbows dispersed for when they are to close to your own troops) I think 10 or so crossbow bolts to the same area of plate should probably shatter it
  18. We know that a shard CAN power a magic system (the mists, vin) but it's not often done. "So when a person is burning metals, they aren't using Preservation's body as a fuel so to speak—though they are tapping into the powers of creation just slightly. When Vin burns the mists, however, she'd doing just that—using the essence of Preservation, the Shard of Adonalsium itself—to fuel Allomancy." so the shards can fuel it directly but they generally don't "as it required expending power in a way that the gods were hesitant to do."
  19. Could be, we don't really have enough information to justify it, but then I don't think I could ever have enough information about the cosmere considering that the shards don't actually power investiture themselves (except in a few rare cases) they basically just act as gateways, I don't think the number of splinters present would influence that.
  20. I said this in the other thread as well but I'll repeat it Aons work perfectly fine and Devotion was splintered, I think a full shard is only necessary for the initial mutation of sDNA.
  21. Aons? Devotion was splintered but the Aons still work, I think that the shard is only necessary to provide the initial alteration to the sDNA of the populace.
  22. Well I think that interaction with a shardpool would turn you into a magic user anyway, lerasium certainly did so maybe it's just that in the instant before you take up the shard you are a user of that magic system I'd really like to know more about what happened on Sel, hopefully when the next Elantris book comes out we can get more details, I'm particularly interested in how Odium managed to take 2 shards at the same time, I guess he played them off against each other first, kinda like Preservation and Ruin
  23. I'm not entirely sure why points 2-5 point towards a splinter of deception... On 1. The intent of the shard only affects how the magic is obtained not really how it may be used. On the stone thing, most of the cosmeres magic is quite similar, limitations make for more interesting uses.
  24. Yea that's basically what I figured as well, somehow the KR could get their plate to recognise their own forms of investiture.
  25. Haha, loving the tennis balls. When I was talking about the difficulty lighting thermite I mean more it would be easy to disrupt when you can sit around talking about for 4 minutes or so before it gets to you. I suppose that a coinshot might be able to sneak some in while making it appear to just be an anchor, that's about all I can come up with now.
