How to defend against shard plate, shard blades, wind runners, ect.
Voidus replied to RJWB0mb's topic in Stormlight Archive
Against Shardplate that might be useful but reverse lashings are capable of some intense pulling power, no matter what velocity it's travelling at they'll still be effected, at point blank range that might work but then a sword would work just as well. Actually managing to get a good shot off on someone who can move as fast and unpredictably as a Windrunner would be difficult too. -
The Bendalloy ratio is 2 minutes=15 seconds so around 8x I guess, flaring rates would differ but not really enough to speculate on. However we do have confirmation that bubbles stack I believe so the compression rate is a bit irrelevant if you have enough Sliders/Pulsers. On space travel we know that Allomancy has FTL travel built into it so I doubt it would come up much, except very early space travel, and as far as we know there is no way to get a time bubble to move with you, it stays stationary relative to the earth so you'd need to get around that one. Oh and welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy all our awesome conversations and whacky theories oh and watch out for the admins, they like to spike people give people cookies

Bad Things are Not Synonymous with Odium!!!
Voidus replied to Wonko the Sane's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It hasn't been confirmed that Odium wasn't behind the Reod, IIRC Brandon sidestepped the question to avoid answering. And we know that Odium splintered Devotion and Dominion, that seems like a reasonable leap to the breaking of the magic system. -
The other confirmation of it was the voice from the storm to Kaladin, which is probably someone with a good knowledge of the oathpact and so would know. I think that the Oathpact required 10 heralds and was not 10 individual Oathpacts for each Herald and so even if one of them still follows it, the Oathpact as a whole is still broken.
-
Well Szeth should be arriving at around the same time as Shallan and trying to kill Dalinar so there's plenty of potential for more from either of their POV's on Szeth, and I suppose Kaladin as well if he gets much.

Those weren't the 13 weakest Aes Sedai, they were just 13 Aes Sedai, in fact we know that most of them were quite strong since they put out enough of the power individually to register as large amounts to the Wise Ones and Egwene. I think that you're incorrect in assuming that most Aes Sedai have around 1-2 Siuan stood at the top and we now know she's lost well over half her power and she's still not at the very bottom, I'd have to say it'd be 1-3 at the least, if not 1-4 which puts Rand at (assuming the three shielding were above average strength as it seems to indicate) anywhere between 8-12.
-
It also wouldn't explain TLR's strength in the other metals if it was just Soothing and Rioting increased by Connection, his Iron and Steel were monumentally more powerful than anything we've seen out of anyone else. Some of that could just be from tapping weight but that doesn't explain affecting metals inside someones body or the tiny amounts even in the glass nearby. I've got to go with Kurkistan on Nicrosil being involved in some way.
-
Yeah I've always hated Egwene, She adds very little except for her strength in the power (which is becoming less and less remarkable as stronger characters take over) and some mysterious charisma which has never gotten through to me. I totally get why people are following Rand, either fear, respect or some combination therof for the DR mostly, but Egwene just acts like a stuck up cow the whole time and yet people somehow agree with her more often despite how flawed her thinking is she just has this huge undeserved sense of entitlement. Anyways rant over. Excited for AMoL and hoping that a certain someone gets what's coming to her at Merrilor
-
I don't think you could call Moiraine a 2 and the weakest Aes Sedai a 1 I also don't think that the 13 weakest could really overpower Rand if he'd already embraced. He managed to break through 3 who were shielding him, and someone can hold a shield even if they're a bit weaker than you which probably puts him at around 4 or 5 and they were far from the weakest.

Brown, I already sit around reading giant books all day, only difference is I'd get paid for it. life goal achieved right there.
-
The only things I can come up with are only fulfilling half of the 'Hide and Survive' and I keep wondering whether survival can really be that much of a part of it. All the Shards want to survive, there might be a few that would sacrifice themselves but I doubt Ruin ever would have.
-
i don't know about them knowing that much about the Voidbringers, the only demonstration I can think of sounded like just another piece of folklore about them.
-
Cowardice sounds good, although it could be something like Solitude, or Survival, since it could just be that the holders interpretation of their intent is that they have to hide.
-
With regards to accuracy I think the difference is that Highstorms are an event of their own, they either happen or they don't that in itself means that predicting a highstorm is going to be a lot easier than predicting the weather. Additionally I think that most of us can agree that there is some kind of shardic influence behind highstorms but I doubt there is any conscious effort involved, more like the mists than anything, which were also predictable (every night) I'd say that the rules governing Highstorm appearances are just a bit more complex. I also doubt that it wouldn't have been mentioned so far, after all there are plenty of scholars who aren't stormwardens who would be capable of checking the maths behind the predictions.

Given the only effect of size alteration that we've seen (Sazed storing strength) definitely did alter his weight (Otherwise it's a bit pointless) I'd say that if size became a storable attribute it'd probably affect weight as well.
-
Surgebinding relies on spren and stormlight too, seems reasonable that all 30 systems of magic use them, like metal on Scadrial.
-
Spren are definitely a problem, along with actually splitting a gemstone that size is going to be quite difficult now that I think about it. But using the lights only might also have an advantage of not requiring matching reference frames if you could just transmit the light pulse and not any momentum. I think that if spheres are expected to be infused at all times (Particularly chips) then holding the stormlight shouldn't be a problem. Edit: Oh and yes definitely a good idea to ground the phones, otherwise when the receiver picks it up the sender is probably going to get smacked in the face by his phone

Well it depends on what kind of resolution you want on them, the number isn't really as important as the volume for getting the gems, you can always just crack more, this actually seems like pretty much one of the only uses I can think of for gems this size from any broken Soulcaster settings, maybe a couple ruby Broams should do it if you took a mallet to it enough. Infusing them isn't a problem, although depending on the special method for creating coinjoined rubies actually conjoining them might be. Turning them on again depends on how much variability you have for the method for that, but if you could have it activate on touch then just use a brush and draw it out, more complicated than spanreed drawing but more accurate I'd think, no ink drops, etc. Oh secondary idea, get 2 taut skins, embed conjoined rubies in each = possible telephone.

I just read that bit about using the lights flashing and realised that this could also be used to create a basic LCD display, so now we don't need spanreeds for pictures either, take that aartifabrians of Alethkar! 17th shard has you beat.

the most useless uses for useful powers
Voidus replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Throw all your clothes into the air, reverse lash yourself to get them on. Put conjoined rubies on 2 telegraph machines. -
The other quadrants don't all have direct relationships either, the only one that does is the enhancement metals. Physical metals don't all effect metal, by this theory pewter and tin should I suppose effect metals inside your own body, or iron/steel should effect the strength/senses of others. Atium can be alloyed with any of the 16 other metals and malatium isn't any different from those.
-
Yes the third trilogy will feature other Shardworlds, it's supposed to be the series with the most cosmere stuff I think.
-
But it's been mentioned that moving a sizeable force takes time, they have to travel in small groups. I doubt they'd be able to move an army big enough to take Caemlyn without someone noticing, my guess is that Fain was involved somehow and got the Black Wind to back off so they could move more forces. Either that or someone else has similar control over it, Moridin probably would.
-
That sounds more like the Returned Breath than the regular ones, I don't know that just seems like a much more Shardicly involved system than what we've seen elsewhere. EDIT: Oh and the planet is Nalthis for future reference.
