  1. We have no idea how Iyatil was raised and have no reason to suspect she reveres the Sovereign. In fact being a worldhopper she more than likely does not revere the Sovereign as she has a greater understanding of the cosmere. It is 100% not evidence. It is seeing strings you want to see.
  2. A Scadrian being a member of the Ghostbloods is not evidence that Kelsier is connected to them. Iyatil isn't even from Scadrial. She also was a member of the 17th shard prior to becoming a Ghostblood. Even by your connection logic the real connection would be her parents as at least one of them is from Scadrial and could have had a connection to Kelsier. While it is extremely unlikely that it has anything to do with Kelsier, Iyatil's parents were probably in the 17th shard as Iyatil is from Silverlight. So by your logic Kelsier is involved in the 17th shard and not The Ghostbloods.
  3. And Ati was considered a good man. Which goes along with my point. The shards are not good or evil. They are forces divorced from context. There may be some leeway on the interpretation of the intent, but Ati was not evil. The shard of Ruin essentially overrode his personality. Ruin is not evil. It is a necessary fraction of a whole. Rather than describing them in terms of bad, I would categorize them by their level of danger to sapient life. Which you can break down into good and evil if you'd like.
  4. I did not call Hitler evil. Hitler is however a whole human with the whole context of being. Using terms of good an evil here are far less complex. In the cosmere the shards are forces. They are bound to their intent. Calling Ruin evil is like calling entropy evil. Shards as forces are not good or evil. They are essentially raw power with a polarity. The vessels can be evil sure. Even with that the vessels are barely distinguishable after a time.
  5. I meant the shard. That is why I stated shard. With that being said. After a time there is little to no distinction between shard and vessel. Good and evil are meaningless when discussing things like Preservation and Ruin. Both are necessary for life. Preservation which you'd label as good would see life put in stasis. Preservation was disappointed by the death of a ruthless, bloodthirsty, tyrant. Simply because the Lord Ruler was a constant. Devotion is not a benevolent force. I know this is overly used cliche but Hitler was devoted. His followers were devoted. These are all raw forces divorced from the whole which gave them context. Good an evil are pointless arbitrary abstracts. Shards are raw forces that must obey their intent. Sure Rayse was a PoS to begin with. As we saw Ati it doesn't matter who you were to begin with. The intent in the end consume you. After a few thousand years it is pointless to even distinguish between shard and vessel. They are one and the same.
  6. I actually considered this idea that Adonalsium was bound by shardic intent. It is an interesting concept. A being torn between so many conflicting intents that they are unable to take any action. If we encounter a bearer with 3 shards we could know for certain. The main problem with this theory is that it implies these intents always existed. We've been told that adonalsium could have theoretically shattered in different ways. To me this implies that distinct intents did not exist pre-Adonalsium. You also run into the issue of how Adonalsium ever would have wielded the power. Perhaps he could have done so in the time before the shardic intents took over. If this is the case where was the power concentrated prior to Adonalsium? There is also a problem with your idea is that Hoid is somehow his friend here. How could this being interact with anyone? Even communication would likely be beyond its ability. Unless you are suggesting Hoid just makes friends with vegetables. He does enjoy talking.
  7. Gemstones in themselves are not needed in a comparative way to metal on Scadrial. Gemstones are useful because they can store investiture. They can store stormlight, voidlight, and cognitive entities. Gems seem to have Cosmere relevance and are particularly useful on Roshar, but they are not directly related to the magic systems.
  8. The Old Magic is its own weird thing. I would hesitate to call it a form of magic. As we have been told The Old Magic is a willful grant of investiture. This is a different beast than other forms of investiture. It in itself isn't really a magic system. It is direct intervention by a shard. Not the natural magic system formed between a shard and a planet. Cultivation's intervention is often mistaken for Odium. The Boon and Curse being called The Old Magic is likely from very old diluted stories of how Voidbinding functioned. A disease that gives you powers is also a boon and a curse. I do agree that the Voidbringers we see are not using Voidbinding. They are using a corrupt form of Surgebinding.
  9. Shard are neither good or evil. Odium is an odd beast, but I hesitate to call the shard itself bad. It is a dangerous shard especially when wielded by Rayse. The attribute itself is not evil. Similar to Ruin, its potential to be considered evil in its distilled form is likely. That said Autonomy is not evil. Autonomy will likely be a major antagonist. Really all shards are wild cards. Unchecked Preservation would be a major problem.
  10. I very much disagree. The Heralds seem to be bound to life. If they were able to pass beyond they almost certainly would have done so. We do not ever see anyone attempt to prevent another from passing on. Lack of this being shown does not mean it is not possible. In principal spren are virtually the same as cognitive shadows. If they can be bound into gems almost certainty cognitive shadows could be bound in similar fashion. As we see passing on is the default. It takes great effort and investiture to prevent yourself from passing. It isn't as much the individuals are choosing to pass on as they are just choosing to not fight against it. I think we can say with near certainty that it is possible for a shard to prevent someone from passing to the beyond.
  11. First aviar are not splinters of investiture. That would be like calling a Misting a splinter. They are a creature that has the ability to manipulate investiture. They are just like a human who uses investiture on another world. We were also told there were other types of Aviar. Sak was able to bestow power on Vathi a virtually unknown individual so I wouldn't think this bond is very similar to a nahel bond. The Aviar that hide minds also do not appear to require any sort of bonding. They passively create what appears to fundamentally similar to a coppercloud. No bond needed. We've seen the human has no control over the abilities. A form of connection is needed with the Aviar, but it doesn't appear to be a full bond. Aviar are bought and sold. They are even commonly mutilated by their owners to prevent them from flying. So the fundementals of this bond don't appear to be very similar. Roshar technology will heavily involve spren. First of Sun would be unable to replicate their technology to become advanced enough to invade. Scadrian technology while augmented with allo/feru is pretty straightforward. A computer developed on Scadrial would likely work on our same fundamentals and therefor could be replicated anywhere. Rosharian computing would likely involve spren. Most likely The Ones Above are Scadrian, Rosharian, and likely other space faring groups. The rule of noninterference is likely a diplomatic measure put in place by multiple worlds. If you are the only space faring people why make these rules at all? There aren't any repercussions for acting as you want. The interfering Ones Above I suspect are either The Set or Ghostbloods. Perhaps both.
  12. You could say that it worked. It gave him temporary sapience, but it did not appear to be a viable method. Temporarily using OreSeur's spike does not mean it was all psychological. We have no idea the repercussions of switching spikes. The act would have probably killed a human. We also don't know what would happen using spikes old spikes in a new Kandra. The spikes are directly tied to Kandra's ability to create and obtain new memories. Does the spike store memory somehow? We have no idea what is going to happen. There is more going on with the blessings than we know. Not reusing and testing this is definitely cultural. That does not mean it is as simple as using a dead Kandra's spikes in a mistwraith. Side Note: You are going to have an interesting time trying to spike a mistwraith. Kandra instinctively take the spike as it is part of them. It is essentially a piece of their soul. I doubt a mistwraith is going to be able to pierce their own spirit web correctly. Seems like it would take someone that can see spirit webs to actually accomplish this.
  13. Harmony could have fixed this. He could have created Kandra as a sapient race that did not require hemalurgy. Instead he chose to keep them as is. Only reason I can see for this is that it leaves the flaw in the spirit web so that Kandra can be used as minions. We don't know if Kandra can reuse spikes. As we've seen it bring great discomfort to use the wrong Kandra's spike. It could be that you could use both of a dead Kandra's spike's with a new Mistwraith without that effect. I have to wonder how hemalurgic decay is going to effect their sapience. Kandra do not have the hemalurgic knowledge to create more spikes to make more Kandra. If any Kandra knew the secret it would have been Bleeder.
  14. I doubt Trellium is necessary for Kandra to gain Allomantic or Feruchemical abilities. Harmony seems to be trying to hide knowledge of Hemalurgy. I doubt he wants Kandra to know they can gain Feruchemy and Allomancy. It is easier to pretend that Bleeder is a fluke so that the Kandra do not begin to try to find out how. With enough hemalurgic knowledge it is only a matter of time that the Kandra could find ways to hide from Harmony or resist him.
  15. He has a spike through his eye at the end of BoM.
  16. I get the feeling that Harmony doesn't want Kandra to know this is possible. As we've also been told Harmony made a conscious decision to not turn Kandra into a breeding race. He seems to have kept the Kandra intentionally ignorant. Maybe so he can control minions. As we've seen he is not above forcing the Kandra to act as he wants.
  17. Starting with a piece of Bavadin's spirit web. Bavadin damaging herself to create the avatar. I don't think the spirit webs of all are connected. I think they are separate but originating from Bavadin. This would fulfill multiple definitions of autonomy. While in my opinion having connected spirit webs would go against autonomy.
  18. We don't know for sure what Autonomy means in terms of shardic intent. We do know what autonomy means. A shardic intent being externally directed heavily implies that Autonomy would create autonomous beings. Now if you were to say that Avatar's were part of Bavadin's spirit web this would make a lot of sense. A definition of autonomy is self cut. This explanation would give each avatar autonomy. This would also fill definitions of avatar as being released soul in bodily form. This would mean Bavadin self mutilates her own soul to create avatars. While they are pieces of autonomy they would each be separate and distinct. Likely growing their own spirit web overtime becoming individualized. This would also likely give them access to autonomous investiture. Using similar principals to hemalurgy. The spike has a piece of soul. That piece of soul however is separate and distinct from the being. Completely unconnected.
  19. You make a fair point here. I don't agree they share the same spirit web. That just feels very un-autonomy to me. I do agree there is something more going on here and that the choice of the word avatar is significant.
  20. With the bond here you have two separate minds and separate spirit webs. I guess we don't know how far the merging goes. It is possible a full radiant would merge completely with the spren. The more accurate example here however would be with an Honor spren and Tanavast. Is the sentient investiture of Honor spren the same as Tanavast? Investiture wise this is probably going to get really fuzzy and philosophical. However they do not share the same spirit web. The sentient investiture is a separate being than the shard holder. I mostly just don't see why these being would share the same spirit web. It seems unnecessary. It also goes against the very basics of autonomy. I would think that Autonomous avatars would be completely autonomous. Beings with entirely their own individual self.
  21. Trelagism and Trellism differing isn't really evidence against there being truth in the original religion. It is a distortion of facts over time. I don't think a shard is in the sun. Probably an avatar exploiting the weakness of Ruin being trapped and Preservation being crippled. Now Harmony is a new shard, and he can barely function.
  22. I'm not sure I understand the reasoning. So in your opinion Autonomy's Avatars are not autonomous? In my opinion I'd say one of the only things that is safe to assume is that Autonomy's avatars are each their own distinct being. If the avatars are just Bavadin her mind would not be able to accommodate the additional investiture. The entire point of avatars seems to be that they a separate entities and therefor have the mental capacity to be aware of more investiture. Reducing the limitation of a single vessel trying to work with the infinite.
  23. I mean we technically don't know how long Trellium has been around. It could be that the seeds were placed there long ago. This is 100% guess work, but... I think there has been something in the Scadrian sun for a very long time. I think the invested mists were partially to block out the investiture from the sun. I don't think that the red beating down on Scadrial is a new thing. A symptom of Sazed's ascension is the receding of the mists. Now another shard is influencing Scadrial. In Trelagism the sun was the eye of Nalt. Trell's jealous brother. My guess would be that Trell and Nalt are both avatars of Autonomy.
  24. Holding the power still would have began changing his personality. The connection orb merely facilitated the initial connection. Adding extra connection shouldn't change the way that investiture works. The investiture of Preservation permeated his being. Without a physical body it is likely the affects would be even more dramatic. He didn't have a physical body to resist changes. He was investiture taking up more investiture. In my opinion this should mean the changes should have occurred even stronger and faster than with a standard vessel. Also as Kelsier continued the power resisted him less. The power was not meant for him, but it is likely that given time Kelsier would have changed enough that the power would not resist him. Essentially the connection orb helped establish a connection which would then facilitate additional natural connections with the shard as held. The Ire would likely have run into the same issue as non Scadrians. They would have had to establish connection via the orb and hold onto the shard long enough for additional connection to establish.
  25. Rashek held Preservation for a very small amount of time. He ascended as Preservation sure, but I don't think he held the power long enough for drastic changes. He also was pierced with metal. So he had constant corruption via Ruin. Hold Preservation does not make one good. Preservation isn't really good. As we saw Leras or at least Leras's shadow liked Rashek because he was consistent. As Ruin pointed out Preservation would be happy to have everything stay the same forever. While we don't know for a fact that Kelsier held Preservation long enough to be changed, we do know he held the power significantly longer than Rashek. He also was kept alive by the Well of Ascension/Preservation's power for an extreme amount of time. I'm unsure what you mean here. Vin told Kelsier the bit about love in the last few pages of the story. There wasn't really much time for Kelsier to develop past that. The only real events that took place were Kelsier's interactions with Spook. I would. I could see Kelsier as an antagonist. At this point I doubt Kelsier would be a villain. I don't see how SH didn't really change him. We saw an egotistical man at least slightly humbled. Not only did he realize that he knew nothing, he also realized he was a small fish. It also seems the very first thing Kelsier did after getting a body was save the people that Harmony nearly destroyed. I don't see anyway this can be twisted as being a villain. If anything the whole screwing the North and South are examples show Harmony as a villain. Odd. I don't see anyone every mentioning this. There are tons of examples of Hoid's questionable morals, but everyone seems to assume that Hoid is the ultimate good guy. I honestly don't think there will be a full big bad, but I hope Hoid is close to it. A man attempting to subvert the wishes of basically the entire cosmere for his own questionable goals. I don't think anyone is really the "Big Bad' of the cosmere. You have individuals all working towards their own goals for their own reasons. I think Autonomy is as close as we will get to a Big Bad.
