  1. Best first post ever. Welcome to the Shard! Please tell me you made an account just to say that
  2. Another thing to keep in mind as well is that Aesudan's ardents were probably under the influence of Ashertmarn at the time of Pai's interlude, due to their close proximity to Aesudan. It just hadn't yet built to the level we saw in OB.
  3. I may be misinterpreting, but I was under the impression that Syl was protecting Kaladin from the effects of the Thrill, even prior to his first oath... that she had already claimed him, so to speak. I had thought that perhaps there was a Spiritual Connection component to the Nahel bond enabling this, but that doesn't explain Dalinar, so that's probably wrong. As for Adolin, there is a subtle distinction between duelist and soldier, and he always considered himself more the former. I forget the quote, but I remember there being a line saying he preferred formal contest to slaughter on the battlefield.
  4. Ok, so not to derail this thread, but I just had a passing thought and I have to get it out. What if Hoid was collecting powers to override an existing unwanted resonance? I know he has some funky things going on. Like I said... random thought. I'm bad for that.
  5. @Ookla the Lumgol then again, killing someone isn't the best way to start off any kind of relationship. (There's a sentence I never thought I would say)
  6. I'm still convinced that Tarah is in Urithiru, possibly looking for Kaladin. It will be interesting to see what happens when she finds him.
  7. "Is Winter Coming?" I'm not so sure anymore.
  8. I'd take Mistborn. Besides the reasons listed above, I think soothing/rioting would make life awfully interesting
  9. I always picture Szeth looking like Caliban from the xmen movies, but shorter, maybe 5'6". I see Dalinar like Reinhardt from Overwatch.
  10. Most of my big ones are listed. 2 I didn't see: Wok BoM
  11. I think the idea is that the second "vision" couldn't have been a recreation sent by Tanavast, since Nohadon probably wasn't referred to as such during his lifetime. Rather, it was a fictitious scenario sent to Dalinar by who knows what, to mislead him in another direction, perhaps. We don't know the answer to that at this time, but we can't take anything from that second vision as truth knowing that it wasn't historically accurate. Any or all of it could have been completely fabricated. Edit: I just went and reread the chapter with the second vision, and a couple things occurred to me. 1. It reinforced the fact that this can't be Nohadon. He's responding to his title we believe was given to him postmortem, as mentioned. 2. He's responding to Dalinar as if he knows him personally, and not just as the person whose identity he would be assuming if he were in a standard vision. He acts as if he knows Dalinar suspects it as well, and they are just playing along with the scene, or perhaps to trick anyone who may be watching that it is a standard vision. 3. When he is asking Dalinar if he knows where he learned to make bread, he makes a point of saying it wasn't in Shin Kak Nish, but next to it, and that he tricked Dalinar. The thing seemed silly to read the first time through, but I suppose you could read into the subtext there and the speaker is trying to let Dalinar know all is not as it seems in this vision. I'm not sure if I believe this, but it's possible. 4. This last one is a stretch as well, but when he wakes in the first room and the sun is shining in the window, he exits, and the sun is shining in the opposite window, and Dalinar mentally notes it. This seems like it should be indicative of... something. I'm just not sure what it is. Just more evidence this may be a dream or something new, or something related to the CR (opposite light sources means opposite shadows... I still don't understand the wrong facing shadow thing). I realize I'm on a tangent and completely detailed the thread. I apologize, I just had to get it out while my thoughts were still organized Carry on.
  12. I feel like Cultivation is staying safe and hidden, playing the long game and cultivating tools to use against him in the long run.
  13. Which is why, over the entire history of dead shard blades no-one has ever revived one to our knowledge. It also seems like an eventuality that it will happen to someone. That someone possessing a shard blade would not only be KR material, but also align with the ideals of the order of the dead blade, and accidentally or otherwise initiate the process to revive its spren. Considering all the blades in the world, and all the hands those blades have passed through, it has to happen eventually, if in fact that is what is happening now.
  14. I'll have to come up with a Jasnah effective pick up line short enough. I'll get back to you.
  15. I mentioned this awhile ago, but I'm still in favor of a battle of champions in a GotG style dance off. Joking aside, I can see a scenario where two things happen. 1. The lines between 'us and them' become blurred, with humans being led to Odiums side by a few possible paths (Skybreakers, House Sadeas, etc) and clusters of Parshendi siding with our protagonists by way of Venli and/or Rlain. 2. Division among the human forces as a result. (The ardentia comes to mind immediately). If that is the case, I can't see our Windrunners knowingly permitting any harm to come of it. I can see Kaladin needing to address something like this something after resolving his conundrum. Just my random thoughts.
  16. My first thought when seeing this thread was to imagine Brandon bonding a redditspren.
  17. Oooh, here's a game I can get into! Where to begin? Kaladin to Tarah Kaladin to Moash- (NSFW) Kelsier doing his thing at Keep V (trying to stay spoiler freeish ) Stick I could do this all day
  18. There are also the references in Oathbringer how Adolin is an old drinking buddy of Skar and Drehy. Although, I agree with you - it is not really "listen to those who have been ignored I see your point, but the oaths don't always translate verbatim between members of the same order. Contextually, as a member of the noble class, I feel like darkeyes would absolutely be considered those who have been ignored. For almost anyone else of his social status to readily and easily fraternize with commoners would be highly unusual. I could just be reading too far into it, but in hindsight it seems like a very specific moment BS was trying to call attention to.
  19. It's early to tell, but I like to think that if/when we see Gavinor POV chapters in the back half, this will play heavily there. Really, though, the point of his death onward in the novel was so busy action-wise, I feel our protagonists never even really had much opportunity to process or discuss it
  20. Another example of this I enjoy, which seems specifically made to highlight this trait of his, is that scene during WoR I believe when they are marching across the plateaus. Kaladin is talking smack about Adolin to Shallan, and she sarcastically says something to the effect of, "Oh, you mean that horrible, condescending guy over there?". Pan camera to Adolin, who is laughing and joking with the common darkeyed soldiers in the group. It might be a stretch, but that could fall into "listen to those who have been ignored" territory.
  21. I believe this to be true. I'm on mobile, so can't get the wob right now, but I remember reading that while they can change and grow as personalities, at their core they are ideas made sentient, and will always remain true to that nature.
  22. I do think she is the best suited to rule the remnants of Alethkar when the ardentia revolts and the second Hierocracy begins
  23. Ask a child to tell you the alphabet sometime
