  1. I know what you mean, I had the audiobooks and just kept finding myself not paying attention. I eventually stopped trying because Arcanum Unbounded came out, so good luck on finishing it in time
  2. I would recommend checking out some of the indie games that have come out recently, they tend to be much more unique than big production titles where someone is risking loosing millions if it doesn't go over well. As for my unpopular opinion, I didn't like Robin Hobbs' 'Assassins' trilogy. I never made it to any of her other series, so I dont know if they get better, but I only made it about half way through the second book before I just got bored. I don't know why I don't like them, since they're recommended here all the time and they have a lot in common with some of my other favorites, I just can't get into them though.
  3. Its from the Oathbringer 'Soulcaster Savant' interlude that was read a while back. The only transcription I can find is here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/6brw0p/oathbringer_spoilers_new_oathbringer_interlude/ The quote is near the end.
  4. This is pretty cool, and is actually easier for me to remember and translate than the official transliterations for the Steel Alphabet, since I'm a computer science major. Now if only I could get any of my friends to read books, all the secret messages I could send....
  5. I believe that you would have to upload it to some sort of hosting site to embed it directly. Either way, nice work! I can do wood carving, I can't do pumpkins though, they never turn out like I wanted. Edit: Also, just so you know, most people here prefer that you edit your original post, rather than double posting if noone has replied.
  6. This is how I do it, I'll remember 'page 470ish' or 'chapter 16' and just skim from there.
  7. Shame on you all for necroing this rotting corpse of a thread. Also, I'll toss in a voted for [REDACTED] because [REDACTED]
  8. This is a good point, welcome to the Shard! If you read the Jasnah 'behind the scenes' chapter, she talks about this: (spoilers for those who haven't read it, and spoilers up through WoR in the chapter itself) https://www.tor.com/2014/08/06/stormlight-archive-scene-after-words-of-radiance/ Edit: Suffice to say, Stormlight healing is rediculous, though apparently not as good as gold compounding, which kinda surprised me.
  9. Ohh you haven't even gotten to Stormlight yet. Welcome to the Shard, your addiction is not uncommon here.
  10. Murmer murmer something something PRAISE THE LORD RULER! Where did that noble blooded go? Never an inquisitor around when you need one...
  11. Haha yeah, that's pretty much what the description I googled said. It sounds like something I'd read on my own at about 13 or 14 though. I'm honestly not too bothered that it's not that similar to 'the girl who looked up,' even though I feel like I remember a lot of details, here in this Shallan thread we all know how weird memory can be I very well could be remembering a lot of different things out of context, this seems closeish, thematically speaking.
  12. The title doesn't ring any bells, but I'll definitely be buying a copy so I can check, just in case you just solved my madness. This is the best suggestion I've gotten since I started looking.
  13. We dont know a lot about how different types of Investiture react so far, so I'll just post the relevant WoBs and let you draw your own conclusions. The only thing we really know for sure is that bronze could be used to detect most other forms of Investiture, with enough skill.
  14. You caught me, my life story is secretly the plot for the back 5 Stormlight books, this is just the first teaser. In reality? Oh God I hope not, that would be boring
  15. Ive already said this a couple times, but I may as well put it in the dedicated thread as well. Shallan's story gives me massive dejavu vibes. I can't figure out why, and I've probably already spent 3 hours looking for another book, or a real life folk tale, or even a real place that shares some similarities, but I can't find anything at all. I feel like I've read it before, almost word for word. The girl climbing the wall and finding out her people were the monsters (with the stairs on the outside), the twisted faces in the wall, and tying a hammock with scarves all seem so familiar that I can't help but think its based on something I heard as a child. From the searching I've done, though, it looks like I'm probably crazy. Aside from my crazy rant though, I really like this theory, and it seems very plausible.
  16. Ive played through Pyre three times in a row now and I'm still not done with it. If you haven't played it yet, if suggest checking it out. It's some kind of weird interactive storybook/sports game/tactical rpg blend, but it works really well. Great lore and lots of different endings for us people that like to dig out all the details. My only minor nitpick is: (spoilers below)
  17. You're not supoosed to brag to the rest of us unlucky plebians.
  18. Just because they may or may not be spiked, that's not a deal breaker. I've been told they are very high in iron! Edit: Also, which books have you read, and which is your favorite?
  19. Haha this thread is great. My grandmother was the one who showed me the Shard, she just lurks here though, so I don't have to worry about embarrassing nonsense She's too busy posting ridiculous theories in the Dresden Files subreddit on the other side of the interwebs.
  20. That was what Taravangian told Szeth to explain why Kaladin could heal a Shardblade wound. As far as we know, it's not true though.
  21. Why did the one armed Herdazian man lose the bar fight? He was disarmed, of course! What do you call a Herdazian girl with one arm and one leg? Eileen! Where do one armed Herdazians go to do their shopping? The second hand store! Okay, that's all I've got, I'm stumped. I'll leave now
  22. I would empty my bank account to buy a pouch of spheres In all seriousness though, mostly it would just be really nice to have an approved real world reference for the size of the stones and the orb around them, I've always wondered. Same thing with the coins, I'm probably gonna reread Mistborn again when I get mine, just so I can fondle them during all the allomancy scenes.
  23. I've been on a quest, searching everything I can think of for a story featuring a girl climbing a wall that turns out to have stairs on the outside, I cannot find anything anywhere though. Several of the specific details stood out to me as familiar as well, though: the twisted faces in the wall, the fact that the people were meant to be trapped inside for some reason, and the girl tying a hammock from scarves (or maybe from something else) I think I'm going to go crazy trying to figure this out.
