  1. It's just people abusing a bad inside joke Welcome to the Shard, our ways are mysterious, but you will learn them with patience.
  2. Good catch! Honestly, I completely missed that because of all his talk of Hightenings and stuff. Since I have the ebook version, I'll quote the page here for reference. Now that I'm looking at it again, I agree that he's most likely from Sel, as he's using their curses, but he also directly mentions the Highenings and knows how to recognize a Surgebinder. I'd say its pretty clear that he's an accomplished worldhopper, I wonder where his fortune telling comes from though? Kaladin mistaking him for Shin makes sense, because Rosharan eyes have epicanthic folds, while the Shin, and most people from other worlds so far, would not.
  3. No problem.
  4. She turns 22 shortly before the events of Warbreaker.
  5. I think this needs to be resurrected because we don't have a new thread about this since the full release. I totally buy into the theory that the Pillar is the power source that makes everything in Urithiru start working again. The question is, how was it meant to be charged? Now, Dalinar can just summon a perpendicularity on top of it, but the Stormfather specifically states that what Dalinar does is not one of the normal powers of a Bondsmith. So how was the Heart of Urithiru (coining that phrase because we need something to call it) recharged in the past? Perhaps it simply has a mechanism to lower it down into the storm, and it hasn't been discovered because our protagonists have been supremely busy. Another possibility I've seen people suggest, but I'm very skeptical of without more support, is that the third Bondsmith spren resided there. I was hoping to see the Heart of Urithiru recharged during the book, but I understand why it wasn't a high priority. I can't wait to find out how all of the fabrials in Urithiru work though. Edit: I know that this was mentioned on the first page, I can't believe that there's just a HVAC issue though Wouldn't the magical vents keep themselves clear?
  6. Haha interesting thought, I think the Stormfather will stick to his statement at the end of WoR that he won't become Shards for Dalinar though. Oathbringer spoilers since I'm not sure if this has been moved yet.
  7. Yes there is, and this is the biggest limitation to many of the ideas you suggest. As for projectile weapons, it's been debated, but Brandon keeps RAFOing us as far as I know. Edit: My favorite suggestion that I've seen in this vein is for a Lightweaver to throw thier cryptic and then have it transform into it's normal form midair (a spinning ball of impossible lines and sharp angles) to kill anything in the way.
  8. I suppose it sounds bad when you put it that way, I was thinking more about the perception side of it though. She doesn't seem mentally broken by whatever happened like Kaladin is. Conversely, Kaladin's life wasn't really all that hard. Other than Tien dying (which is horrible, but everyone looses a family member at some point) everything bad that happens to him is after he begins bonding Syl, as she mentions that she was already with him in Amaram's army. Kaladin's depression is what makes him seem so broken to me, not any of the things that happened to him, and Lift is directly contrary to that. Edit: Just like Lopen, presumably whatever happened to his arm was horrific, but it doesn't seem to bother him.
  9. As @CaptainRyan said, their own plate doesn't interfere with their lashings, only other people's plate. This is likely because each persons plate is filled with investiture that is keyed to their own spiritweb, much like how Minor Mistborn spoilers:
  10. I gave it a 9/10. It was exceptional, but honestly I think it could have benefited from another 50 pages or so after the battle. It seems like a lot of the important cleanup was left to be retroactively explained next book. For example, I would have appreciated seeing Dalinar and the others confront Szeth about apparently switching sides, and how Nale reacted to Jezrien's death so soon after swearing to fight for the Parshmen. Edit: it amuses me that the bell curve of our answers suggests that many of us would have rated it 11+ if given the option
  11. I agree, I'm not sure why people are arguing this. Here are the quotes for him hearing the blade, and summoning it in less than 10 seconds, for reference: If its an issue of it not being difficult enough, in order to get to the point he's at has required him to: wield the blade for years, talk to it like a person before every fight, have personal ideals that match the original order of the blade, travel to Shadesmar and see the blade's spren as it really is, and then continue to treat the deadeyes like a friend rather than be repulsed or afraid of it. I also don't think 'brokeness' is really a problem. The threshold seems to be much lower than people are assuming. Even if you want to discount the squires as something different (which I really don't think they are) then what about Lift? She is easily the most upbeat and consistently silly character in the series. Granted we don't know that much about her past, but her main internal struggle seems to be 'I don't want to grow up,' which I feel like is something almost all kids go through, not exactly world shattering trauma material.
  12. Bridge Four: Lift: (Finally!) Nightblood: Also everything Pattern says, I think all of those have already been posted though
  13. I believe you are thinking of chickens and minks, not horses, but otherwise I agree. It seems likely that the Rosharans would call any display of magic 'surgebinding', simply because that's the word they know.
  14. The main reason is this WoB: So, if she's not Azure, then Brandon is trolling us.
  15. Up until part three, I didn't really like Jasnah as much as in previous books. I felt like she was getting even colder and less empathetic than she already was. I decided to give her a pass later on though for being a complete Storming Chasmfiend in the battle, and for sparing Renarin.
  16. I agree, which is why I'm not a huge fan of either pairing. I really like both Shallan and Adolin as separate characters, but their relationship is just another 'arranged marriage turns out to be perfect' trope.
  17. Brandon taking a shot at all our theories that just died?
  18. I think that he actually summons Maya in under ten heartbeats several times during that fight. There's no way that ten heartbeats passed between him getting knocked into the air and rolling back to his feet. If he had dawdled that long, the Thunderclast would have killed him. I think he'll realize what happened fairly easily once he thinks about it.
  19. Holy chull-flipping Stormfather! It took me longer than I expected to finish, but I'm glad I took the time to enjoy it, Oathbringer is a work of art! I don't even know where to start, there's just so much. Random outpouring of thoughts below: Brandon pulled another HoA on us and I can not believe I didn't see it coming! The Warbreaker tie ins are amazing, I don't know now whether the book I'm waiting for most is Nightblood or Stormlight 4. I think smart Taravangian is probably counting on dumb Taravangian to not give away his true plan to Odium. Navani made a Fabrial taser? storms yes! It was pretty obvious by this point that Renarin was connected to Odium, I'm glad he doesn't seem to actually be a traitor though. I really hope to see more travels in Shadesmar in the future. Kaladin can't bring himself to say the fourth oath yet? It's obviously something to do with letting go of the people he failed. Dalinar wrote Oathbringer after all, I guess the easy answer was right Queen Jasnah!!! Mayablade!!! Redeemed Szeth!!! My brain is kinda fuzzy, I think I'll just go start a reread now.
  20. When you wake up after a few too many cups of Alethi wine and find Axies style notes on your body that point you to the secrets of the Cosmere.
  21. I too will be getting it on Audible. Not sure how you feel about 3rd party software, there is a program called 'InAudible' that will let you convert their files to standard mp3s if that's what you're looking for, though.
  22. My hype-o-meter for Oathbringer will not start coming down for at least a week after I've finished it.
  23. I would swear there's a WoB that answers this but I can't find it anywhere, even with the new Arcanum. To the best of my memory though; Yes, the investiture just leaks out into the Spiritual Realm and eventually goes back to the Shard it came from.
  24. I like this theory, mostly because I've never been a fan of the Liss theory. I don't have anything useful to add to this though, other than to say great idea and have an upvote. Edit: I've never seen anyone else point at the high judge for Chana, it kind of makes sense to me though. It fits with the other popular theory about the Herald's madness being an inversion of thier primary attribute, while keeping thier secondary attribute intact. Chana's are Bravery and Obedience, so its not that far of a stretch to say that she's being cowardly by trying to have Adoulin killed in a 4 on 1 duel, while maintaining obedience to the law and her position.
