The Movement of Metallic Compounds in Allomancy
Odium's_Shard replied to Odium's_Shard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, I stated in the theory that it began to break down with temporal effects, because they don't influence the Allomancer or others explicitly, but the force of Time, which is hard to pinpoint, and unlikely to contain metal traces. About Duralumin, I'm sure I'm not right in the method that I stated. As you pointed out, having 3g of metals going from matter to energy in less than a second would mean the Allomancer wouldn't have the most ideal retirement to look forward to. It is more likely to do with the first reason I stated (I think?) that the transmitters in the brain are 'sped up' or geared to flare everything in HUGE quantities, as opposed to the normal rate of 'flare' and 'burn', due to altering Allomantic 'instincts'. This might put strain on the user however, in the same way as drugs do, because of the 'alteration' of bodily functions. Perhaps being a savant is like being an addict. Your body is irreversibly changed, maybe for the better, but you HAVE to keep taking the 'drug' in order to maintain any effect. -
Odium must SURELY have a secret weapon up his sleeve. he has already Shattered two Shards working in unison, all on his (perhaps with Bavadiin's help), and so knows how it's done.
-
That's why we have our own personal Windrunner.
-
Perhaps what Odium was waiting for all this time on Scadrial was for a new Shardholder to inherit at least one of the Shards, because as a newish Shardholder, Sazed is minimally influenced by the Intent of the Shard, and so can Create, Destroy, and Preserve in equal measures, among any other options: he is given temporary windows of free reign over the power of a Shard. And so, when Odium comes, Preservation, as in Leras, would rather sacrifice himself for the protection of the Realm, whereas Sazed might fall easily, as is both sitting on a counter-Shard balance, as well as having a minimal understanding of how to operate the Shard, and because he is currently not heavily influenced by the Shard's Intents, he cannot act instinctively to stop Odium, as Leras could have.

Please don't tell me that you seriously intended for The Epic God Metal quadrant to be invaded... nay, corrupted, by a metal that can't even handle the oxygen we breath without setting on fire. Can't wait to ingest these new super metals... At least Sodium is safe... relatively. As for Strontium... a metal that can't handle common fire without creating a blood red flame as if crying for its own mother. Calcium. Don't intend to be drinking much milk today. Oh wait, I just found out that as a lactose-intolerant Calcium-misting, I am missing out on the ability to set things on fire. Darn. On a serious note, my favorite alloy of The Epic God Metal would have to be... either NaCl, which the Glutton can burn to clog up his arteries, and the Annorexic can use to store cholesterol and all forms of nutritional gluttony, or sodium valproate, which is like salt, but can cure stress, tiredness and annorexia: the perfect counterpart to NaCl's Feruchemical property... Unfortunately, side effects include vomiting and sudden sedation, giving way to the following sequence: Me: Stop right there, criminal scum! (ingests sodium valproate vial) REVITALISE! Criminal: No! Not a Lethargic Misting, with the ability to go without sleep and avoid stressful encounters?! Me: That's right, now, to use my abilit--! (faints, criminal runs away)

Ok, here's the theory: Basic summary - Allomancy actually can ONLY Push and Pull on metals, just in different ways to simulate unique effects, such as Sliding and Rioting! Since all cells technically contain traces of metallic compounds like iron in the blood, etc., do you think that ALL uses of Allomancy in fact only affect metals? So (here comes the crazy theory): Iron- Literally pulls on large sources of metals (ie coins). Steel- Literally pushes on large sources of metals (ie coins). Zinc- Pulls on the small metallic compounds within the blood, which makes neurotransmitting hormones to certain areas of the body reach faster and more frequently, increasing the 'feeling' of that emotion. Brass- Pushes on the small metallic compounds within the body, making the neurotransmitting hormones move slower and dulls the 'feeling' (over a period of time/number of hormones received) of that emotion. Tin - Pulls on the compounds within the body that have metallic traces that lead neurotransmitters to the brains from the sense perceptor, making them faster/more frequent and improving the use of the senses. Pewter- Pushes on the compounds within the body that have metallic traces that add to bone structure, muscle strength, and blood clotting and healing, making the processes more apparent/faster. Copper - Pulls on the electrical impulses that eminate from our body following the increasing effects of the other metals, keeping them, and others', inside the 'bubble'. Bronze - Pushes of the compounds in electro-receptors arond the body, making them able to detect the fainter electric impulses of Allomantic processes. (temporal is where it begins to degenerate) Gold - Pulls on the memory receptors in the brain to render images across the mind of the 'past' and also pulls electrical speed in the brain to maximum, enabling you to foresee events that may have happened following registered events of the past you are 'viewing'. Electrum - The same except it Pushes the memories into the future, however also Pushes away the mental speed (electrotransmitters contain base metals) necessary to understand the information presented to you. Cadmium - Pulls on metallic compounds in Space plane, causing a stretch of Time in the area of influence. Bendalloy - Pushes on metallic compounds in Space plane, causing a pressure of Time in the area of influence. Chromium - Pulls on another's mental circuits (and their metallic compounds, etc) to forge an instruction to 'burn away' or drain (pull away). Nicrosil - Pushes on another's mental circuits to forge an instruction to 'flare' or Push everything away in one burst. Aluminium - Pulls on all the metals in your stomach to burn them all away, as if the mental command had been given in an instant. Duralumin - Pushes on all the metals you're burning in order to flare them all away, unlocking the potential of the metal by breaking its compounds by sudden force, releasing the power of E=MC^2. It is very haphazard. Please help me to shape it, disown it, praise it, or disdain me for the mere suggestion of it! All feedback on my crazy theories are welcome. This is the best explanation for the 'physics' based magic systems that we see in Mistborn other than 'the power of Creation unlocked in a specific way'. After all, how does it know what to do? Can the word 'magic' just scare away all assumptions of possible reasoning behind how they achieve the effects that the metals do? Obviously, Atium and Lerasium and their alloys will, for now, be reasoned away as 'God Metals' for the sake of a post too long already. Plus, we don't know what the Allomantic property of Lerasium was.

Spren: An Interesting Comparison

I apologize, its getting quite late and its been a long day. I had forgotten all of the exceptions, had become wrapped in my own excitement and my head is still reeling from getting thrashed at quantum mechanics by Chaos. The Stormwardens also ring alarm bells in my mind. After all, maybe they could be some sort of strange twisted Radiant underground movement that is analysing the Storms and Stormlight in order to discover more secrets of their lost Order, and so moves around detailing the locations of storms and issuing correcting warnings to the populace, after the old ideals. I don't feel their intent is malicious though. But you'd have to defer to Chaos for this one, after all, he did come up with the Theory of Intent. -
Unfortunately, this is the purpose of a RAFO. There is no need to hit back at Voidus for not being able to supply information that we don't even have.

Spren: An Interesting Comparison
Odium's_Shard replied to Odium's_Shard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is clearly hinted at during the entire cultural description of Roshar, now that you mention it. I always knew that writing was important in Roshar, but I had assumed in a cultural way only. Think about it: only women in Roshar can write. Men could write, but it is heavily discouraged. I had originally assumed that this may be down to the warrior mindset of the Alethi nation at large, but maybe it is not so. Maybe only women can write, because if MEN were to write something, there may be unpredictable results due to impacts within Honor's remaining pieces. Say a man, his name is Szeth (random name, no connotations at all...) was to write on a slip of paper: 'Give me the ability of a Windrunner. I shall protect those who cannot protect themselves.' If they burnt it, or otherwise interacted within Honor's remains, would it come true? Is this how our random man, Szeth, came by his Windrunner powers, if not by the bond? However, the 'written word' theory deteriorates a bit when it is mentioned that Kaladin only has to speak aloud the Oath to 'bind' his will to Honor's power. However, I should say that this may be because Syl hears it (she seems to be necessarily present) and notes it down Cognitively, which sends the 'written word' from Physical, Kaladin's voice, through Cognitive, Syl's notation, to Spiritual, the unlocked power invoked by the words. I thin we're onto something. Also, @Satsuoni, I am aware that the animation I used is of the double slit wave experiment, which is very basically used to teach interference to GCSE classes (in Britain, at least, my brother is doing it), but when I researched this wave variant, I was prompted to as my lecturer about the photon variant. In order to convey to you what the interference pattern looks like, I was forced to use this animation off of Wikipedia that described the wave variant, but the interference pattern (assuming the photon is unobserved) is the same regardless. I just wanted to show everybody what the interference pattern looks like, as it is hard to put it into words. Sorry from a technical and accuracy point of view. -
Maybe, whatever Shardworld Adonalsium was on was becoming lazy, or were starting wars between themselves, or weren't following the correct path, in ways that Adonalsium couldn't influence or stop. And so, using the incredible foresight that must come with being all of the Shards, Adonalsium could have predicted that eventually the world would reach a point at which it would need to be put back together, but the journey it takes to get to the reforming of Adonalsium would have taught the populace of all Shardworlds something, and the infighting or immoral approaches would end. So it Shattered itself, then gave the pieces to people who held prominent positions in the ancient society of Adonalsium, and then continued to observe through all of the Shards as the world unfolded, and then was reforged. He (Adonalsium's spirit?) might also be able to influence it if things start disintergrating more than he would like, ie, it might have been him that suggested the plan to Preservation, in order to work towards the reforging of Adonalsium, in that 2/16 pieces are now as one (Harmony).

Capitalism? Magic user of this Shard's system: Fatcat. Whatever it's balance magic becomes, a user of it will become a Banker (because at first, they seem generous enough, until you read the smallprint).

As long as it's in capitals, that's all that matters. I need my first title on these forums! Super Tremendous Epic Vorin Effector STEVE of Awesome.

The 'set of rules' is what I meant by 'to a common mechanic'. Sorry to cause confusion between 'classic mechanic' and the expressional use of a 'common mechanic', as in a single known operating system, which you point out in your post still doesn't exist, even if we understand the math behind it. -
I have one word for you: the Epic God Metal. I am in awe of how fast my signature spread. Off-topic, but thanks, Ironeyes! It wasn't meant to be a viral/official tag, but I shall suggest that it now is on the appropriate thread.

Of course, I was only talking about the Leecher's emotional tendencies. Not

It most likely, if this theory is correct (of which I am, unfortunately, in doubt) that it then went straight into the hands of Taravangian. After all, its more likely for a King to have enough money to sate the merchant, and desperate enough to instigate such a high value simply for speed of delivery/obtainment.

Spren: An Interesting Comparison
Odium's_Shard replied to Odium's_Shard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I completely accept that saying it defies all 'laws of physics' is an over statement as such. But in effect, the process of you describing that it can't break the laws of physics that we know nothing about just proves, as it inevitably was, that there are some bits of physics that are almost in-explainable to a common mechanic, then instigating that the process is a phenomenon. Also, I reconcile this point and adjust my argument to say: 'Is defined by laws that we have little conception of.' Its been a while since I dealt with quantum mechanics in full swing, as I am currently dealing with sociology and psychology and its interactions with things such as physics (wierdly, they have a lot in common...). Please don't hesitate to correct me, as I am a little rusty and have no reference save my memory. -
Where did you downvote me? An accident you say... also, why the sudden influx of administrators on my page...? Conspiracy...

Does the Cosmere Universe open up for a sci-fi setting?
Odium's_Shard replied to oGGe's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In all fairness, quitting is an excellent strategy. -
Where does everyone get the idea that Hoid may be a Shard? Or a magic user of every single kind? Sure he lies. So do I. Everyday. After all, who else is going to laugh at my boss' jokes? Not the sane people, that's for sure. Deception isn't only constituted by 'lying', more to do with espionage and sneaking.
-
Unfortunately, I never indicated my opinion as towards Hoid's status as a diamond. It was an interesting comparison. But you do raise the question: If Adonalsium was so great, what caused it to shatter in the first place? An equally great power?

I propose, selfishly, to name myself the Harbinger of the Discovery of the Epic God Metal in all its Numerous and Artery Clogging Wrathful Forms Unfortunately, as this makes me the Namer of the Harbinger of the Discovery of the Epic God Metal in all its Numerous and Wrathful Forms, which is in itself a bit short, I have decided (again, selfishly), to append my title in this thread to: The Appending Namer of the Harbinger of the Discovery of the Epic God Metal in all its Numerous and Wrathful Forms as well as The Bringer of the Signature that Signifies the Return of the Epic God Metal including the Original Conspirator as to Brandon's Pet Names for the usage of Sodium in the Creativity of Himself and Others. And so shalt I henceforth be known as on this thread. I might accept: Odium's_Shard, APNHDEGMNWF, BSSREGM, OCBPNSCHO. All in favor? I!

Interesting, Zas. So you're saying that because the spren has a bare drop of Cognitive presence, the moment you introduce your own its 'memory' and 'instructions' as such from the Spiritual realm are overridden to incorporate your own observations? -
Yes. And each one leads to high levels of cholesterol and likelihood of heart attacks and/or strokes. Also, on an interesting side note, they somehow boost the creativity of the Allomancer and are able to store the ideas of Feruchemist. Here are the ideas for names: The Epic God Metal Misting: Glutton or Muse (take your pick depending on your standpoint with sodium chloride) The Epic God Metal Ferring: Novellist or Brainstorm Also: there should be an external user of the Epic God Metal called an Inspirator and an external Ferring of the Epic God Metal called a Larcenist (can steal and store peoples ideas). Anyway, as another side note, there should be external Feruchemy! It would be EPIC (may contain salt).
