  1. The doctor stands there with a confused look on his face, wondering why the spiked man ignored him.
  2. Well, we don't need all of his power. After all, both the Stormfather and the spren existed before Honor was splintered. And Cultivation and Odium are both still alive, and yet they both also have spren. Come to think of it (HoA Spoilers)
  3. Unless the Undead are disguised as normal people.
  4. The doctor jumped at the sight of the Spike protruding from the small man, then gasping, exclaimed "What are you doing man! You should have asked for me the moment you were spiked! Quick, get on the table."
  5. At this point a doctor walks in, followed by an assistant. "I have recently been called upon to surgically remove several spikes," the strange doctor explained. "And every single story mentions their ailment originating from baked goods. Would you mind if I inspect a few of your wares? If I don't find any pointy pieces of metal in them, then I would gladly endorse your Bakery."
  6. "I have no idea who is on Security. To be honest, I wasn't aware we had a security position," explained Ookla the Altruist. "As such, I've tried sir. He is, I believe, one of the more prominent anti-Hemalurgic Spokesmen, as well as the head of a Hemalurgy-free Bakery that is in direct competition with our establishment. Realizing how valuable he would be to our cause, I've prepared a hemalurgic spike especially for him primed with the attribute of a Loyal Denizen of the Dark Alley. These last two times he has come, I've attempted to spike him, but he has managed to evade me. "As such, I have decided to try a new ploy. I am not a trained assassin, and as such, I have hired a Rathbore Monk and charged him to insert the prepared spike into 'Ookla the Noble''s back the next time he makes an appearance here. Once this succeeds we should be able to covertly smuggle some spikes into the 'Hemalurgy Free Bakery,' thus greatly increasing our conversion rate."
  7. *Once again, his prey appears, and he leaps, spike in hand!*
  8. Any chance we can hire some Rathbore Monks and arm them with needle-thin spikes to use on newcomers?
  9. Well, you'd be giving me an empty atium spike in exchange for some 50 charged iron spikes. I'd have already done most of the bloody and grimy part of the work.
  10. I can get you a dozen set of spikes for some Koloss if you want.
  11. I can't get pizza, but if you're willing to go get it, I'll pay for it.
  12. Are you watching 5 pm or 7 pm? @Ookla the Itinerant & @Ookla the Short, would 7 pm work for you two?
  13. Any chance we can do it tonight? How many people could show? If not, it's not looking good for my odds of showing up some other time this week.
  14. At the same time, there is a difference between the gap from Cognitive Shadow to Seon and the gap from Cognitive Shadow to windspren.
  15. *Prepares a Spike with the "Denizen of the Dark Alley" attribute stored up and sneaks up to his prey.*
  16. Just reading the Elantris Annotations for the first time, and I noticed this from the Chapter 4 Annotations: This immediately made me think of my own culture (Canadian). "Kolo" is used a lot like we use the word "Eh". That tendency to turn things into a question is also quite common in Canada, if not always to the Dula level. And our over-use of the word "sorry" certainly ties in well with that idea of not antagonizing people. I mean, we landed right beside one of the most antagonistic countries around (sorry America, but it's true) so there is also that comparison of being a small country where we try to make friends with everyone because we can't afford any enemies. Need I go on? So, here's the theory: When Brandon was trying to figure out how create the Dula culture, he just grabbed a couple of towns from Alberta and Sacatchewan, dropped them on Sel and waited to see what they'd do. They naturally started a democracy and started farming while reading books. I mean, we're Canadians!!!! I just wish it had been my town. On a more serious note, I am definitely planning on asking Brandon if he based the Dula cutlure on Canadian culture next time I see him.
  17. Hadn't thought of that. Still skeptical though. I see how you could think that, but I personally am more inclined to think that this is just Timbre's opinion not the opinion of the entire species of Spren.
  18. I'd have to look back in WoR to be sure, but I'm fairly sure that the Highstorm came into existence at the Shattered Plains. At least, if it began at the Origin, then that means that Highstorms move crazy fast for it to have gotten to the Shattered Plains that fast. I seriously doubt it. I'm also not sure that the Stormfather can do it at will. Maybe only if there isn't already one traveling across Roshar. At most Dalinar will progress far enough with the Stormfather that the Stormfather would be willing to do it if Dalinar asked. Of course, he wouldn't be able to do it too often for fear that the Stormfather start feeling used. Which I suspect is part of why the Stormfather might refuse being summoned as a Shardblade.
  19. I disagree. I don't think that Kelsier was "a self-awareness that is now only investiture." I think he is a person who no longer has (or "had) a physical aspect. For one thing, he still would have a spiritual aspect: a spirit-web. As far as I can tell, the Physical Aspect is made of Matter, and the Cognitive Aspect is made of Investiture, however, that doesn't mean that any Investiture object will be equivalent to the Cognitive Aspect of a person. It would be like saying that apples and tanks are equivalent because they are both made of matter. Or a rock and a person.
  20. Well, it says that the Humans came with and worshipped Odium. But that doesn't mean that he made them.
  21. I'm not sure we will ever know Hoid true name until and unless we see a scene with him in his childhood at a time when he is either too young to be using an alias, or someone trustworthy who would have known him since birth is using it has his name. Like his mother for example. Personally, I wouldn't mind if it stayed one of the mysteries of the Cosmere, doomed to never be revealed.
  22. So not only does Khriss compare both Spren and Cognitive Shadows, she also poitns out (indirectly) that both of them are really the same thing: bits of self-aware Investiture. or, to rephrase that, they from in different ways, but the end result is the same.) (Emphasis Mine) 2 Well, the Threnodite Shades aren't exactly all that similar to Kelsier are they? They seem to lose a lot of the memories and intelligence that they had before they died. And they become Shades through contact with other Shades. To me, this is almost saying that they aren't just Cognitive Shadows (or, like Kelsier, they would still essentially be the same person) so much as the remnant of the Cognitive Identity of a person, merged with the investiture of a Shard (which could be considered a Splinter.) Now, I'm probably wrong on some of the details, but my general point is that the Shades aren't standard Cognitive Shadows. They seem to be more of Cognitive Shadows in the way the Stormfather is one (notice that he is also a splinter at the same time) than in the way Kelsier is one. That last line especially seems to imply that Shades aren't actually Ghosts. Kelsier is definitely a ghost, however. Also, the WoB mentioned specifically says "power that has become self-aware," which automatically cuts out Kelsier and most of the Cognitive Shadows. They were aware before they became Cognitive Shadows.
  23. That almost seems to be confirming what I was saying, that the Listeners are being corrupted by Odium (and Cultivation as well?) which would be why they have the red eyes.
  24. My personal headcannon is that the Stormfather is too big to condense to the size of a sword. Maybe a tank?
  25. I can do Wednesday or Friday.
