[OB] What do you guys want from book four?
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
THIS!!!! Ever since I heard that there were 3 Bondsmith spren I have been wanting to meet this third one. And the fact that this third one wasn't shown in OB really, really makes me excited to see it. I mean, considering how big the reveals are in OB, this really has potential. -
[OB] How do the Fused get Voidlight?
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to eltari's topic in Stormlight Archive
As far as I can see, stabbing a Fuzed in the gemheart kills the Fuzed instantly. At least, that's what Kaladin's experience at Kholinar would imply. -
[OB] Cosmere Crossovers, and the deal with Hoid
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to Naerin's topic in Stormlight Archive
Might I remind everyone of this WoB? You know, just a reminder that Hoid isn't necessarily a protagonist in every way. Does he oppose Odium? Yes, which means that as long as Odium is the antagonist of SA, Hoid will be on the side of the protagonists. However, you still get stories like Emperor's Soul where Hoid was a lot more of an antagonist than a protagonist. Just, you know, keep an open mind when it comes to Hoid. Just because he is (as far as I can know without having read it) Dragonsteel's protagonist doesn't mean he'll be a protagonist in the general Cosmere plot. -
Personally, I think you could use this in much the same way you could use Air-Balloons, without needing a Windrunner. You could use Fabrial technology to get it airborne, whether it be the technology behind the lifts (still not sure how that works) or the technology behind the archer towers that Navani was messing around with in WoR. You set up a shaft with counter-weights and a reverser fabrial setup, plus some gears that can be turned via Conjoiner fabrial that will raise or lower the reverser fabrial platform within the shaft. Then place the reverser fabrial counterpart in the core of the Airship and the conjoiner fabrial's counterpart in the piloting room of the Airship. You can use the conjoiner to turn the gears which allow you to raise or lower the platform, which lowers or raises (respectively) the Airship. This is how you get airborne. Of course, I am making an assumption, which is that reverser fabrials only react to each other in a single axis (up and down) which might be false. Once you are airborne, going in a specific direction relies on you adjusting your altitude. On earth, you can get winds that blow in pretty much any direction, as long as you are at the right altitude. Of course, this is Roshar, where storms only go one direction, so this might fall apart here. Regardless, most of what I was worried about was getting the Airship in the air, and controlling the altitude.

I didn't know Vivenna was going to be in the book, and I called it during the meal between Kaladin, Azure and the Wall Guard's Officers. "I'm not particularly worried about anyone taking her," is what really got me suspicious, even if the next part––"I trust these men"––would normally explain that line. It became clear that Azure's sword was a Type 4, and that this meant that Azure had to be from Warbreaker. Vivenna was the obvious choice. I'm surprised it took other people that long to catch on.

[OB] How do the Fused get Voidlight?
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to eltari's topic in Stormlight Archive
I personally suspect that some of the aspects of Voidlight that make it not run out so much would also end up limiting how fast you can expend it. It just feels like the Voidbringers are just not quite at the same power level, but that this is because they don't burn Voidlight quite as fast. -
The "other shard in my logic is Adonalsium himself. Though I might need to edit my view a little. Essentially, here is what I see: the original bonding of spren and Parshendi was of Adonalsium. Cultivation and Honor didn't change that. Odium did. He used it and twisted it to allow him to use the Parshendi as his tools. The changes include the forms of power, the resurrection-like abilities, and the Fuzed's Voidbinding. Originally I was saying that any changes that Honor and Cultivation did would have been within the scope and limitations of what Adonalsium did, but come to think of it, I'm not sure Honor and Cultivation really did anything to the way the Parshendi's forms work.

People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to Voidus's topic in The Alleyverse
I have recently spiked another friend of mine with a hunger for Brandon's writing. I should have her on the website before the end of the month. -

[OB] How do the Fused get Voidlight?

I'm assuming that once an Unmade learns how to do something, it wouldn't stop doing it unless it had good reasons. -
Dominion, Devotion, and Sel: the Planet Ascends
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to Ethan_sedai's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just keep this in mind: Spren/Seons/Type4s are self-aware splinters of a Shard. Cognitive Shadows are self-aware, but they aren't splinters. -
OK. Guys, this is simple. With listeners, bonding spren is a normal thing. As far as I can tell, originally it was only spren of Adonalsium. Eventually, both spren of Honor and spren of Cultivation started bonding with Listeners. This is still normal. Where it got corrupted (thus red eyes) is when Odium put in the Fused and the forms of Power. It seems clear to me that the bonds for both of those are different from the usual ones. They do something outside the normal scope of what the parshendi normally have.

[OB] Shipping Predictions (Super Cereal)
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to Salkara's topic in Stormlight Archive
Man. Shallan and Adolin are married. And considering the theme of strength coming from holding to Oaths, I doubt that kind of oath will ever be broken. At least, not by a Knight Radiant. It just doesn't fit with the theme of the story. Or with the type of author that Brandon is. -
[OB] What do you guys want from book four?
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm not sure on this one. I think the fact that some of the Human nations are on Odium's side makes the story more interesting. However, I won't say no to more from the Aimians. -
[OB] Azure and her 'shardblade'
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to thecaptain01's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It could be either. For the strengthening her arm idea, I'd want to look at the description of the sword and see how big it is. If it is described as being massive, or comparable to a Shardblade in size, then that makes sense. If it's normal sized, then I'd lean towards the corruption idea. -
Take a look at the Coppermind entry for Lightspren .

[OB] Dalinar´s Fifth Ideal
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to Awesomness's topic in Stormlight Archive
I get what you mean. "I am Unity" feels way too powerful, and had way too powerful of a reaction to be discounted easily. And it comes right after Nale's description of the Skybreaker's 5th Ideal. We can be sure that Brandon will be getting some questions on the subject. -
[OB] Dalinar´s Fifth Ideal
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to Awesomness's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree. This keeps with the dual nature of most of the actual Oaths we have seen so far. And even if the way they tie in isn't obvious, when you put it in context with Dalinar, it makes sense. For him taking responsibility means that when he falls, he can't ignore it. He has to acknowledge it and figure out how to rise up and do better. The second sentence explains why he felt the need to say the first sentence. -
[OB] What do you guys want from book four?
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
That is a fair point. And I doubt he'll need time to train. I mean, his mastery of Gravitation is good enough that even without knowledge of Division he is still a formidable opponent. And he has Nightblood... -
[OB] What do you guys want from book four?
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Useful enough that Dalinar would hesitate to let him leave on a personal crusade? -
One question then: Where does Cephandrius come in? Obviously at least two groups of people know him by that name.

[OB] What do you guys want from book four?
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Here is what I suspect (and hope.) Bondsmith, Lightweaver, Windrunner, Elsecaller, Stonewards Because Szeth has practiced with all of the Honorblades (minus Stonewards, cause they only had the 9 blades...) he is way too valuable as a trainer who can guide any and all of the orders. Normally that job would be filled by the Heralds, but I doubt we'll get that. So here is what I suspect: Dalinar will realize that Szeth is going to be insanely useful in training Dustbringers, Skybreakers, Edgedancers, Truthwatchers, and Willshapers. The other 5 are covered by Dalinar, Kaladin, Shalan, and Jasnah (plus the Stonewards.) And so when Szeth asks to be able to go on his personal crusade, Dalinar will hesitate, which will give Szeth's plotline some tension. Malata: Yes. Taravangian: He is too important to kill right away. Earliest death: Late in Book 5. Latest death: Late in book 10. -
[OB] Dalinar´s Fifth Ideal
Brightlord M. Alhstrom replied to Awesomness's topic in Stormlight Archive
My first instinct with the "We killed you" was Honor. This is a moment when Tanavast and Honor are really close again. Tanavast is merged Stormfather who is bonded with Dalinar, who is wielding Honor's Perpendicularity. That seems to be what is freaking Odium out: that Honor might be coming back way too quickly for his taste.
