  1. The problem wouldn't be with the time difference so much as with the edge of the bubble. Objects going through the edge of the bubble get thrown a little off course, and as far as I can tell there is a visual distortion at the edge as well. If either of these would mean that not all of the flashes would get through, then yea, you would either have data corruption or even a complete loss of connection. If that is the case, then you might need to have aluminum lined cables and machines As for the problem you mention specifically, I can think of a simple solution: A second cable that flashes on and off regularly. At that point, the time difference isn't a problem. Let me see if I can demonstrate. (This is probably over-simplified, but you should get the general idea) (Empty space = 0, and | = 1) Under our current system: || | ||| | || | | | || | | || becomes 110100001110100110010010100011000101011 Now, let's have the same sequence, but a time bubble gets in the way and slows the signal down: || | ||| | || | | | |||||||| |||| |||| |||||||| The computer now reads it as 110100001110100110010010100011111111000000000000111100001111000011111111, which is definitely wrong. Now, let's do it with my system: (Each line is one cable) | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | || | ||| | || | | | || | | || The computer reads the data as 110100001110100110010010100011000101011 Throw in the time bubble: | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |||| |||| |||| |||| |||| |||| || | ||| | || | | | |||||||| |||| |||| |||||||| As you can see, the first cable gets slowed down at the same time, so you can get the exact same reading of 110100001110100110010010100011000101011 by comparing the two cables instead of basing the reading on time intervals. Now, you might get problems in situations where the connection is sped up if the sensors can't read the flashes when they are coming in 10 times as fast. But you'd also be able to find solutions.
  2. Umm. Well, I think if you left a completely filled nicrosil metalmind the size of a sword alone for a bit, it might eventually develop sentience. It depends on how much investiture is actually being stored when storing nicrosil.
  3. At its core, it's your theory. However, I take it 4 or 5 steps deeper, throwing in a bunch of other realmatic explanations, and by and large, building the skeleton for some massive Cosmere plottwists. And I mean some beautifully perfect twists and results. The same kind of stuff that blew my mind when I was reading OB. In hindsight, it's not quite as likely to happen as I originally thoughts, and if it ever gets disproven, I'll let you know. But since it would be Cosmere-wide spoilery stuff (if accurate) I'm going to avoid writing it here. Edit: OK. So, it's not so much that I believe your theory, as that I hope your theory is accurate.
  4. Let's keep in mind that we aren't looking for just Godlike abilities and attributes. We are talking about Uncle Andy's abilities and attributes. I don't think that Omnipotence, Omnipresence or Omniscience would apply to Adonalsium. If he had any of these three, I don't see how he could have been Shattered. I mean, he would have needed to want to Shatter himself to do that. So unless the 16 talked him into committing suicide (please no) then Adonalsium can't have these three godlike attributes.
  5. Considering I only gave the Rathbore Monk the one spike, yes. Might be worth checking the bind point however. How many bind points are there in the heart again? If that's it, for his sake I hope a minor adjustment will be all that is required. As far as I can tell, removing a spike from someone's heart tends to be fatal. PS: It was an atium spike, and the original victim (who will not be named) didn't have any investiture-based abilities (IE: Allomancy, Feruchemy, Surgebinding, etc.)
  6. OK. I'm going to stop. I just wrote a massive response then deleted it. Essentially, I realized how genius it would be, how well it would tie into the rest of the Cosmere, and how well it might tie into other Elantris sequels, and realized that this might be exactly what Brandon is going to do with Sel. So, just in case I'm right, I'm going to not post it, to avoid spoiling any future Selish books for the 17th shard. Now, how to get Brandon to confirm that it would be realmatically possible, without getting RAFO'd to death or leading the rest of the 17th shard straight to the answer...
  7. Exactly how long have you been unconscious? And how long will you be unconscious? You can assume that if it's been more than 24 hours, I've moved you to a different location. PS: Why are you unconscious again?
  8. First off, amazing theory. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it on here yet. However, cool as it is, I doubt it. This specific aspect falls apart when you look at Vessels like Ati, who was severely corrupted by Ruin's intent. Ruin definitely wasn't a "personal strength trait" for Ati. You can find other examples.
  9. Well, Odium's reaction was too strong for that. If he was going to have a reaction in the moment based on being pinned into the challenge, then it would have happened as soon as it was obvious that Dalinar wasn't going to become Odium's champion. No. Odium's reaction was straight up fear, and it was immediate and in direct reaction to Dalinar forming the Perpendicularity.
  10. This question right here. Please!
  11. You guys might want to look at this theory about Odium referring to Adonalsium in that scene:
  12. OK, so with "Full Radiant", are we talking a 3rd Ideal Radiant, or a 5th Ideal radiant? Also, which Order? There is a big difference between the combat abilities of a Dustbringer/Skybreaker/Elsecaller and a Truthseeker/Bondsmith/Willshaper.
  13. Sorry to harp on you, but putting it in a spoiler box isn't enough. If you won't have something outside the box saying what book the spoiler is for, then you'll simply have people wondering if they should open it or not, because they aren't sure if they've read the book you have spoilers for. That isn't a huge deal on this specific board, where OB is the only book that needs spoilers, but it's still good practice.
  14. As far as I know, even shards can't reach the Beyond, so I seriously doubt that Dalinar somehow did. Unless Adonalsium somehow still has the power to influence the real world, and he powered up Dalinar for some strange reason. I just doesn't seem plausible, if at all possible.
  15. I think this idea might be relevant: It's possible that the Stormfather is a spren of Adonalsium, who is also merged with the Cognitive Shadow of Tanavast, which would explain his "honor" based side. But could also give Dalinar a direct connection to Adonalsium, not just Honor.
  16. Agreed. Let's remember that these are some of the people who had been Worldsingers before the first Desolation. And we don't know the average Parshendi lifespan, so it could be that there was quite a window in which Hoid would have visited.
  17. *Later that day, the Doctor (whose name is Ookla the Altruist), the Rathbore Monk (disguised as the Doctor's assistant) and the Owner return through the back door, into the kitchen.* "Welcome to the DA," said Ookla the Altruist. "I'm assuming that the next time I come by for an 'Inspection' I'll be finding hemalurgic spikes in most of these baked goods. "Also, feel free to do some recruiting/spiking of newcomers whenever you want. That tends to help you get more accepted by the DA members. Now, good luck, and see what you can discover about Hemalurgy." *The Altruist then proceeds to the front, followed by his assistant, declares the bakery Hemalurgy free, hangs a certificate on the wall and leaves without saying anything else.*
  18. The doctor checks the back door to make sure the way is clear, then the Rathbore monk carries the owner to the Dark Alley.
  19. One thing to mention: I've read every single cannon source, and none of them mention the term "dragonsteel." As such, Dragonsteel isn't a cannon material, and this discussion probably either needs to be in the unpublished works forum, or needs to have spoiler tags or non-cannon tags or whatever. As for the theory itself, having not read Dragonsteel, I can't really answer.
  20. "My assistant's magic item?" the Doctor asks, as they enter the kitchen. "I didn't ask him to bring anything," he says, with a confused tone, turning towards the assistant. In that moment the Rathbore monk drops his cloak and in a flash drives a thin metal spike, about the length of his thumb, into the owner's heart, his other hand muffling any yells or screams the owner might have. In that moment, the owner starts to feel an overwhelming loyalty towards the Dark Alley, as well as a desire to further its cause in the scientific research of Hemalurgy. The Rathbore monk then pulls out another spike, examining the kitchen to make sure there wasn't someone else there.
  21. "The old fashion kind: I'm simply going to look everywhere for any sign of a spike, blood, or alloys used in spike making. If that proves clean, then I'll break open a couple cookies, dig through a couple pies, and smash a cake or two. After having paid for them, of course. I've seen enough Hemalurgy in my days as a doctor to recognize the signs."The doctor says all this as he proceeds through the swinging door, followed by his assistant, and follows the owner into the kitchen.
  22. "Oh, of course!" replies the Doctor, refocusing. "Would you please guide me to the kitchen?"
  23. Well, I already have both a Rathbore Monk (whom everyone is ignoring) in the Bakkery with me, and I've armed him with a particularly nasty spike which should be able to turn Ookla the Noble into a loyal Denizen of the Dark Alley. As for the bystanders, yes, copper is probably the best route? Want to watch the door to catch anyone who might try to escape?
  24. Just one thing to keep in mind: More than just his Physical Aspect was Shattered. Remember, the 16 shards are composed of immense amounts of investiture, which is kept in the Spiritual Realm. That doesn't mean that Adonalsium is dead, and it doesn't mean that his Spiritweb doesn't exist anymore, but it does mean that the explanation for why is going to have to be a little more involved. I personally have already seen someone mention a similar theory that the "We killed you" was talking about Adonalsium, and I really like it, as do a few of my friends that I've talked to. It would be a very Brandon thing to do. My personal twist was that Dalinar was going to reunite all of the Shards and remake Adonalsium. But Adonalsium never having completely died would be a very interesting way to do it.
  25. Which Ookla are we talking of? The Noble, or the Maladroit? Because I'm currently working on neutralizing Ookla the Noble.
