The portal, however, does not disappear. Still clad in Shardplate and carrying her new husband, Yzabet runs into the portal.
-
"Lets just go." Yzabet says. She hops out of Rhazien's arms, hands him Tempest, and summons her Shardplate. Then she picks up him and they run off into the sunset.
-
"Tempest." Yzabet said, running her hand over the puppy's head. It licked her. "Lets go to Roshar first. We'll have to find a way to get off of Sel, though."
-
"Maybe we should go. This is getting a bit chaotic." Yzabet said.
-
"Maybe both? If the DA is paying for it then we can do everything. We could even world-hop for a couple weeks, seeing the best of each planet."
-
Yzabet was still wearing her boots under her dress, but she nevertheless danced lightly. "Should we discuss where we are going on the honeymoon? I was thinking about Urithiru, or somewhere where we can see a highstorm."
-
"I'd have to cut off most of the skirt. Do you know how hard it is to fight in a dress?" Yzabet whispered back, grinning. And then she kissed him. Since the invention of the kiss there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind. But that's not really a surprise, because we've seen for years how devoted and interested they are in each other. It's not like they met each other this morning after years of not seeing each other.
-
"Yes. I adore chocolate cake, and I'm happy that she'll be fine. She'll have someone to compete with for your attention, though." Yzabet glanced over at all of the DA members, who were smiling as they watched the couple. "Are we gonna start this or what?"
-
"You're not the only one. I want to find whoever thought that it was a good idea to not tell the bride and groom that they were getting married until five minutes before the wedding. Then I want to hit them." "In the face." "With a Shardblade." "Unless they have chocolate cake. Then I'm good." Yzabet smiled, and kissed him lightly on the nose. "What does your spren think of this?"
-
Yzabet blushed. She had woken up this morning thinking that she would have to incarcerate or kill Rhazien, and right now she was standing under a beautiful tree, in a beautiful forest, in the prettiest dress that she'd ever seen, about to be married to him instead. "I think that I am too. And thank you. You look ruggedly handsome, as always."
-
"Rhazien... Did you organize this? Weren't they all trying to kill you?" Yzabet asked. The wedding dress was gorgeous , but she was starting to sweat in the armpits.
-
"Oh." Yzabet said. That was about it.
-
Yzabet looked very, very, very confused. "I.... er..... the DA has a wedding department?"
-
"Just a little longer. So that you know that you aren't alone in the world." Yzabet whispered. Then a very excited man in a bowler hat separated them, saying something about..... a wedding? Wait, WHAT?
-
Yzabet melted into his embrace. stopstopstopstopstopstopstop. No. Don't I deserve this?
-
Yzabet's eyes widened in partial surprise, but she didn't resist. It was a short, glorious moment of heaven. "I missed this." She muttered through the kiss.

I'd suggest starting with Elantris, since it is stand-alone and less dark/intense than the others. And it's shorter than most of his other books. The Rithmatist is also a good place to start.

Welcome, @QuirkyGrandpa! Have you read all of Brandon's books? Do you homeschool your kids all by yourself, or are you involved in a co-op? (Homeschool "graduate" here.) And which of his characters do you think is most like you? Have an upvote!

Yzabet hugged back, smiling as she did so. "This is more for you than for me," She said. You sure about that, Yzabet? Seems to me like you're making up for all of the missing hugs over the past couple years. Yzabet ignored Jael and lifted her head, emotions conflicted. He could be doing evil things, horrible things. She could be hugging a monster. Or he could actually be trying to save the world, using the only ways that he possibly could. Their eyes met.
