  1. That's true. I kept hearing him say how he organized magic often based on science, so it's fun to imagine how far that link goes, lol.
  2. Oooh. Nice! Good match up. I loved that story, too, so double points
  3. Interesting take on bondsmiths. It's completely backwards from what I thought each part matched with, but makes sense in a cool way.
  4. Bringing the chalklings to life through animation would suck, though. Also, some players would figure out the ways to make repetitious, non-artsy shapes for chalklings that would be efficiently drawn and spammed. The human element of judges for quality would make a huge difference, but is unreasonable, so, eh... Maybe kind of meet halfway between effectiveness and diversity by giving players several types of lines to build the chalkling, like different colors while drawing them. Each color would represent what the line is intended to serve as(legs, arms, eyes, armor, etc.) The finished chalkling would turn into a solid color and a Spore-like animation process would figure out how the joints move. Still can be cheated, but at least its diverse. Maybe have parts and pieces to choose and drag-and-drop when building chalklings. Each part would possess so many points in defense or offense or speed and each would take more or less time to draw, such as suggested before. Throw in some RPG leveling of your skill as a rithmatist by leveling up what you use more, making drawing those lines slightly faster. A con to the freeform style of this game would be people drawing suggestive stuff or even using crude phrases as lines. Facepalm-worthy and no doubt it would happen and happen a lot.
  5. Anxiety disorder sucks. I dealt with it for years and still do, but have it mostly under wraps now, without any meds, too! It can be completely disabling, but know that it can be overcome. Good luck with figuring it out the way that works for you. I am looking at BYU next winter. If this is around then, I will definitely drop in
  6. Kinda its own game, but along the same lines: At night(whatever), everyone votes for someone. You must vote and can only pick one person. You can not pick yourself. During the day, everyone finds out how many times they were voted for. They get as many chances to guess who voted for them as the number of votes they received until they discover someone. The Host does not vote nor can be voted for. The host will keep track of votes and tell the numbers to each person. The host will confirm correct guesses. Someone who is discovered loses the game. The game ends when only two remain. They are the winners. A twist that to the regular game style: Each night, you can guess someone who will attempt to kill you. If you are right on at least one person who attacked you, you are safe. I guess this is more of a free-for-all type game instead of preset teams.
  7. Mr. Ffnord, you've done it again! Hats off to you.
  8. Awesome! What program did you use to make it, if I may inquire?
  9. Did a font ever come about? If so, where can I get my hands on it? If not, which chart should I reference to make into a font?
  10. I need to reread the collection, it seems. Thanks again! You're awesome Captain Kurk. Breeze probably would win. Ha ha.
  11. Yes! Drab! I knew it wasn't the right word. Thanks. Indeed! Too long, no see, er... read. Looks like you've been busy 'round here. Thank you, both. That clears up a bit for me. Other questions come to mind: If you touch a shade on Threnody with aluminum, what happens? Can you Awaken aluminum objects? Can you soulcast aluminum into other things/other things into aluminum? Is aluminum missing something from the cognitive or spiritual realms? If a piece of metal was being pushed and broke into pieces mid-push, what would happen? Can you kill a kandra without dissolving it or breaking its mass into pieces? Do they possess natural organs? Can you make a Frankenstein-style Lifeless? With one Breath? Can you make Lifeless animals? What determines a person's spiritweb at birth: influence of shard on planet of birth or genetics? In Warbreaker, does the Idrian king believe that keeping vibrant colors out of his kingdom will save his people from Awakeners, like his people do? Could the Royal Locks be drained of color to power Awakening while still attached to one's head? Which revealed cosmere world would you most like to live on as a normal person? Which part of it? If Breeze, Dalinar, Sarene and Shallan played a game of Apples to Apples without powers or spren, who would win? What roles/classes would they prefer in a D&D session? If Wayne could Awaken one item, what would it be and what command would he give it?
  12. Can Syl turn into a projectile weapon? Would projectiles be provided? Can a kandra have two heads and talk with both? If you give a kandra the skeleton of a tiny animal, can it mimic the animal? What would it do with all of its own extra mass? What happens if a kandra tries to use a suit of shardplate as a truebody? What is the "Moment of Inspiration?" Why is it called that? Who is being inspired and what does that infer? If Kaladin went to another shardworld, what would happen to Syl if she went with him? Is it possible to burn metals externally? Is this a partially biological process? Could a fabrial burn metals for you? Can a person who dies but somehow hasn't passed over beyond the three realms serve in place of a spren for Radiant purposes? What happens to breaths stored separately in two pieces of a broken sword when it is repaired? What if the two pieces came from different swords but were combined into one? If the two swords were identical to each other, would this make it easier/possible? Can two people both Awaken the same object at the same time? Different times? Any effects? What about a combination Awakening of both using the same command with intent to perform it together? Is the God Beyond one person/thing? Throughout the books? Per book? Has your concept of whatever Adonalsium is changed much through the years since Elantris' publication? Do all shardworlds have a symbolic number in a similar way as has been found in Roshar and Scadrial? What about the other cosmere worlds? When Awakening, does each hue of color drained in the process have potential to change the outcome or potential of the Awakened thing's capabilities/potential/attitude? Are there only sixteen (fifteen now) shards of Adonalsium? Is the Hoid who appears in published books thus far a single character? What makes aluminum so invisible/untouchable to other Allomantic abilities? Does Feruchemy have restrictions in regards to aluminum? Does Duralumin have something unique about it in relation to these magics in a similar or opposite way? If someone worldhopped to Scadrial with a piece of metal that originated from another shardworld that by alloy standards would otherwise be Allomantically capable, could a Mistborn burn it successfully? What about from a non-shard world? If Kaladin worldhopped to Nalthis, could he withdraw Breaths from his own Shardblade, aka Syl in sword form? What about from any bright spheres he was carrying? Can a dun person from Nalthis burn a Lerasium bead? Would it do anything?
  13. Woah. Space Radiant, with propulsion fabrials!
  14. Yep, sounds right. Adhesion probably isn't the best term for this surge then. For appearance purposes, though, it is the same.
  15. That makes sense. Where did I get the idea that the surge of Adhesion was related to pressure? I can't remember.
  16. Ah, I need to learn more about tension then. Thanks! And true, I don't think Lift was ever shown making herself more abrasive. That would be useful.
  17. I was trying to figure out the ten surges and what powers they could produce when I realized something. The names of each order generally seem to be made of two parts, each part in reference to the two surges with which it is affiliated. Since Brandon likes to base his magics on physics, specifically the surges, there are some assumptions we can also make from understanding the way matching science principles work in reality. The surges and their scientific principle affiliations, as I undertsand them: Adhesion: Suction cups work using adhesion. They create a vacuum between the suction cup and the surface they are attached to. On Earth, there are almost fifteen pounds of air pressure per square inch on you at sea level. Did you know the only thing holding a suction cup to the surface is the amount of pressure on the air outside of it? Because of this, suction cups do not work in the vacuum of space. Technically, the higher Kaladin flies, the less effective his adhesion becomes. Gravity: Changing the warp on space-time. In reality, the more mass your possess, the more you warp both space and time around you, affecting everything else nearby. Planets have so much mass, they make any distortions between people and objects, etc inconsequential as far as noticing any differences. Also, the more gravity you have pulling on you, the slower you proceed through time. Satelites broadcasting time for clocks on Earth are under less gravity and thus are passing through time relatively slower than us. Their clocks have to be set slower so that they tell time at the appropriate speed when the signal reaches Earth. If you were to somehow survive at the edge of the black hole in our galaxy, time on Earth would fly by at amazing speed. That requires a heck of a lot of G's, though. I'm not sure how much difference lashings would cause for the purposes of doing what a bendalloy or cadmium bubble can do. Division: Dividing complex substances down into basic elements makes sense to me. Any chemical reactions that result such as smoke and heat make sense here. Abrasion: Friction is the resistance of two materials sliding against each other. Progression:No comment. Illumination: No comment other than sound and light, both affected by this surge, are wavelengths. There is an interestings relation between waves and quantum physics. I don't understand enough about that to really explain it, but it is an interesting idea, though I doubt it will be affected by the surge. Transformation:No comment. Transportation: No comment. Cohesion: Cohesion is what makes like substances hold together. I am not super familiar with this, but as far as water goes, cohesion is what makes molecules of H2O stick together in pools and puddles and drops. More specifically, it is the attraction they have to each other inside of a mass of water. Tension: Tension, aka surface tension, in water is similar to cohesion, but is specific to the attraction of water molecules to each other and not with other molecules. Tension has a tighter pull than cohesion. The names of Willshapers, Stonewards and Bondsmiths are what interest me most. Willshapers and Stonewards have access to Cohesion. From the names, 'willshaper' and 'stone' make me think most of cohesion. It sounds like they can actually manipulate matter in form, probably only matter consisting of one element at a time. 'Stone' seems plentiful enough in Roshar. I wonder how the Shin people reacted to them. Stonewards and Bondsmiths have Tension. Bonsmiths can use Adhesion, which is probably where 'bond' comes from in their name, leaving 'smith' which doesn't seem like an Adhesion thing. My opinion of cohesion was that it is used to shape things. That's what smiths do. They manipulate metal to form jewelry and armor and weapons and tools, etc. However, Bondsmiths don't possess cohesion. Stonewards, particularly the 'wards' part, remind me of shields. Wards block against damage. Smiths make shields. Shields and armor are very tension-like, keeping things out and away. Did these Radiants turn objects into armor? Just think of how strong that armor would be if you fashion large sections together using Adhesion.
  18. I took it to mean he was after a bead of Lerasium. What I wonder is why he keeps jumping from shardworld to shardworld if he isn't after the shards. Maybe he is simply trying to gain access to all of their powers somehow, all at once. In essence, it would be recreating the manifested power of an unshattered Adonalsium.
  19. Off topic, but I am confused how humans got to so many worlds when space travel doesn't appear to have existed, at least no evidence. Splintered planet became planets? Weird, but so is humans everywhere. EDIT: This is when I just finished reading what I posted and remembered shadesmar... ya, travel, heh... Heh. Still a lot of people to move about in said fashion.
  20. I really liked reading this one. Only one thing that hasn't been mentioned already stands out to me. It seems like the closing chapter of a longer book. I guess that's short fiction for you, but I would love to read the story from the beginning, seeing how Arri tricks or forces her way on the adventure and some chances to see how the knight begrudgingly follows. It would add to his audacity in taking credit later. Plus showing the agreement made between Theo and the princess would be interesting, though I know you used it as a twist at the end. Anyway, it was fun! Keep going!
  21. Well, essence #6 says "Blood, all non-oil liquid", so water definitely falls in there, but maybe soulcasting something into something else is easier if there is a lot of the same thing around, like the boat being in water. Just an assumption. The only food references made for the parshendi that I can recall other than the one you mentioned with needing gemhearts for food is that they farmed rockbuds. Perhaps the gemstones help these grow somehow. But ya, no other answers on them soulcasting yet.
  22. I just don't like the disconnection we get from Kaladin when he turns. It could have been portrayed better, alleving us of many of these questions. It just seemed like "What?", too much all-of-a-sudden-esque. I knew he was considering it, but the effect on him, how he felt, when he actually crossed that line, just wasn't shared enough. That aside, the simplistic answer seems that a weakened Syl used her remaining strength to save him, or his threat-of-life kicked in and stole what was left.
  23. If I understand correctly, you are saying that, roughly speaking, there are ten essences/attributes/virtues/whatever, and a Knight Radiant is equal to the sum of one sample from each of the ten essences/attributes/etc, which can only be achieved by binding a human and a spren. Is this correct? If so, that could mean that, for example purposes only: Kaladin has some of values: 1; 2; 4; 5; 6 and 9. Syl has some of values: 1; 2; 3; 7; 8 and 10. Together, bonded, they have some of each of the ten values. KR Kaladin! Woot! If this is true, then that could mean: A rainspren has some of values: 1 and 7. An angerspren has some of values: 4; 8 and 9. John Jacob Jingleheimmer-Schmidtt has some of values: 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 9 and 10. Together, the three of them have all of the values covered. Ta-dah! J.J.J. is now a Knight Radiant potential candidate!
  24. Lol! 8-BIT Theater at nuklearpower.com It's a hilarious webcomic that spanned ten years of production. It's a spoof of FFI.
