Here's a version of the map with more contrast: Ya it looks like artifacts from a filter or pattern.

Here's the currently established list of Shards by intent: Cultivation Devotion Dominion Endowment Honor Odium Preservation Ruin I'm gonna guess the rest: Avarice (Greed) Fear (the one who only wants to "run and hide") Justice Mercy Contemplation Instruction Preparation Guile A lot of ones that are unrelated to the current line-up, but I like 'em

Since the powers are derived from the local Shards, what could be said of the intent tied to those magics? It seems a determining what Cultivation's magic involves is impossible at this point, even. Who knows? It could be the "one that only wants to run and hide." Ooooooh aaaaaah. Maybe Fear is the other one. Or perhaps Survival. xD

Devotion Dominion Preservation Ruin Cultivation Odium Honor Endowment If you consider any of these evil or good, I guess this is how it would play out: 'Good'-Preservation, Devotion, Cultivation, Honor, Endowment = 5 'Bad'-Odium, Dominion, Ruin = 3 5 beats 3 But man... if Adonalsium is evil... Hoid needs to remake it good! Bwahahahahah!

If this is possible, would that mean Wyrn would become the new Shardholder?

One Question I Never Understood the Answer To (Spoilers)
Turos replied to DariusJenai's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
For all we know, there could have been hundreds of modifiers written into the stone walls of the Elantris-sized Aon Rao. These modifiers were probably partly used to target Elantrians. For Dilaf's wife, a healing Aon was used, and as Raoden learned, there are a lot of modifiers to target specifics for that kind of Aon. Let alone the fact that Aons were generally targeted to their intended recipients even before discrete muscles were named. If no one is the target of the messed up Aon, its not going to mess them up as a result. Merely drawing a basic healing Aon shouldn't really have an effect. Its unguided and thus a spell that is summoned but not instructed. I may be way off course here with how Aons work, but this makes sense to me. Any Aon could be written in dust, the dust wiped away, and the Aon remaining intact, though invisible, like a mark between the physical and cognitive realm. One could then proceed to build a wall in place of it. -
That's assuming that the 'power' is more like a battery or well of energy. It could be interpreted as a format. If this is the case, whenever someone taps into their spiritual web and accesses their world's spiritual realm, or 'Dor', they are merely transforming it from one form into another and it passes through the format dictated by the Shard's tie to that world, creating an output of the specific magic. I used to think of electricity like water going though a pipe. You only have so much water. I was incorrect in thinking this way. Electricity is actually more like a line of people doing 'the wave' in the bleachers at a basketball game. xD The first person starts it and the next person feels like an idiot for not continuing it, so they all follow suit. Electricity is more like this. The atoms at the beginning of a long wire are excited by something to become active. The energy of the excitement is passed along. No actual substance is moved, just the reaction. This could be what powers in the cosmere are like. Yes, metals are burned up in the use of allomancy, but they still exist, just as broken down substances that used to make up the metals. A change in form. Yes, an electrical battery can be depleted, though not in the sense of having lost any substance. It's just arranged in a way that has no excitement to it. But we shouldn't think of Shards as batteries. Think of them as blueprints, at least to understand this theory. Or even better, think of them as cookie cutters! The cookie cutter changes the shape of dough into a gingerbread man :q No damage done to the cookie cutter, but it's still required to make the dough into the right shape.

I don't think Jaddeth has anything to do with Skai. Yes, the Dakhor monks have powers that are extremely likely to originate from the power of the Dominion Shard, but the worship of Jaddeth may be inconsequential. -Elantris, Chapter 43, approx. page 376 (according to my Kindle) First off, here we note the studies found in a record in the city of Elantris. Jaddeth is referenced as originally a lesser god of an older religion. -Elantris, Chapter 53, approx. page 420 Here we find a seemingly accepted opinion of opponents to Shu-Dereth, the religion of Fjordell, and thus Dakhor Monastery, that it is simply a means of power in their quest to conquer the rest of Opelon. It seems to me that Jaddeth is simply a convenient excuse for Fjordell's motives, if these opinions hold any ground. I personally doubt that Jaddeth would rise from the bowels of the earth had Fjordell's conquest been successful, especially noting how Skai is dead. Also, religious fervor, or at least accurate religious fervor, does not seem to be a prerequisite to using the power granted by local Shards. The planet of Scadrial is a prime example. Followers of the Church of the Survivor had no more power in allomancy than those of other religious beliefs.

AonDor has a huge potential for application in any circumstance.

Remember that there are sixteen Shards out there. We shouldn't limit participants to only those previously mentioned. For all we know, Odium isn't the only world-hopping Shard. Perhaps another undiscovered Shard is keeping up correspondence with Hoid or members of the 17th Shard.

SWEET! Thanks Windrunner!

I know I've read this before. Where did you find it?

Here's a theory: Elantrians learned the aons by studying them in each Seon they came across. Ever take a look at the Aons? They are made up of a bunch of the same symbol with a few additions sometimes. How in the world would they figure out any of the more complex aons without the seons to reference? I suppose you could throw a bunch of symbols together and see if anything happens, but there are so many possible outcomes, it seems unlikely. Raoden often wonders whether the Seons were created by AonDor or not, and if the theory about Seons being Splinters of Aona, then this theory could have some real validity. Now, when it comes to modifiers, I don't at all doubt that Elantrians figured out how to further tweak the symbols to redirect their effects. My theory stands, however, that Seons are what allowed Elantrians to discover AonDor.

I would like to see Cusicesh eat everyone. Hmmm. Nah! I'm happy with whatever the author comes up with, although seeing main characters meet up would be friggin' sweet.

That's true, but what would the balancer be? we have already seen a 'Love' like shard in Aona aka Devotion, but I suppose that was just an interpretation of the Korathi religion.

What I don't get is how odium, extreme hatred, has anything to do with the power of creation. Each of the other known shards make perfect sense: Sel:Devotion-Dominion--Authority Scadrial:Ruin-Preservation--Justice/Mercy Roshar:Honor--Commitment Roshar:Cultivation--Goal Roshar:Odium--Doesn't Make Sense Nalthis:Endowment--Structure Even Ruin is not contradictory: things need to be resolved when they go wrong, but i don't see hatred being a motivator or asset to some godlike essence. It really is a broken one. I wouldn't be suprised if odium wasn't the original intent and the shard was corrupted somehow.

Lol! This is interesting stuff Okay, so picking from just a few portions, here's some stuff to boggle the mind "Indicate the achievement of the material power." "Being considered as the "final" number of the emanation, it represents the Incarnation completed, according to Abellio." "In the Hindu religion, an Avatar is an extraordinary being, the miraculous incarnation of the Divine in a human form, for the well of the humanity. By definition, the Avatar has sixteen particular gifts: the ability to materialize objects at will; qualities of omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence; the capacity to transmit a pure love current, inexhaustible; the possibility to transcend all conditions of the Karma which appears by his capacity to transform miraculously the life of a person by an act of divine will." "Sum of the four first odd numbers (1+3+5+7=16) which, by theosophical addition, gives 1+6=7, the sacred number." And the kicker for the 16-10 thing: "According to R. Allendy, it represents "the role of the Karma 6 in the cosmic unit 10. This role consists in creating a current of evolution (1 + 6 = 7) but towards two opposite directions, so that, by itself, 16 even number, is unable to choose." As a product of 2 x 8, it is the positive evolution leading to the karmic liberation, or the negative evolution leading to an increasingly tight sequence in the cycles of nature." I don't know much about these idealisms, but I know numbers play a big role in the world's cultures. Maybe there's some clue to it all in our own world. Ooooooh.... Aaaaaaaaah....

Ok. It seems likely the division of Adonalsium was a bad thing all in all. Doesn't sound planned or expected to be a reoccuring theme. But who knows? The sick concept is very interesting. What if Adonalsium was something more like a blank sheet to start, and interacting with mortals 'tainted'/'cultured' its growth into sharing the common traits? Perhaps it saturated to the point of over-confliction with itself and broke apart. This could have been due to self-preservation, or an unexpected twist. If so, perhaps Hoid/Midius was a role in the last straw that burst the bubble. By the way, Zas, you are the information-gleaming beast! I bet Brandon gets nervous and sweaty everytime he sees you pop up to ask a question.

I like to throw out questions, specifically to see what others think! Sweet ideas! And facts, good to know! My non-theory (not based in education, but very much a guess) is that Adonalsium is more like a connection 'God', 'Goddess', or 'Gods' have to the world which they have created in a way that allows humans, their children, so to speak, to learn the key aspects that make them what they are: human. For one to progress, understanding one's self is key. Now, let's say some naughty child/children got their hands on this power/gateway/whatever and decided to do what kids do, break it. "Don't touch the stove or you'll get burned! ._. WHY did you disobey me?! *grumble* Now you'll have to learn your lesson." This scenario makes sense to me If Midius had a role amongst that/those naughty, curious and/or accident prone child(ren), he sure has quite the mess to clean up! Of course, he could be a nice older brother who feels responsible for his siblings. From the way he talks, however, it seems nigh on obvious he's got some of his own guilt to work out.

xD That's awesome! You know, for all the quality teaching material in those clips, they really should show them in public schools.
