Don't know how to even suggest tackling something like this... Also, abreviations tend to have extra periods. Maybe a list of common abbreviations would be good to include for the purpose of removing those extra periods. Sounds hard to me though. Here's a few that are common in books, used in referencing other works: p. > page; pg. > page; pgs. > pages; lit. > literally; no. > number (man this one sucks...); who knows what others... maybe these are a "That's too bad" scenario, haha. I found an instance where a sentence was indented with the tab key. When the period was moved to the front, it was placed before the indentation with a gap before the first word of the sentence. I found one case where the word 'poetry' was translated to 'poetree', but a few words later, another instance of the same word followed by a comma was not converted. Maybe commas mess with the '-try' suffix? Perhaps removing commas first thing might be beneficial. Also, is it possible to convert all number characters into their spelled forms? Actually, maybe I will add number symbols. That will make it easier. Is it possible to remove all extra characters such as ' , ; : @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) - _ = + / \ | ` ~ < > [ ] { } Hope this helps! Ya, I understand the 'physics' behind it. Just seems like the outward nature is not fitting for Allomancy or Feruchemy. I guess my idea is that Preservation is like peaceful. That leads me to compare it with martial arts and monks 'n stuff. This seems more like Feruchemy in nature, while Allomancy seems more destructive and less 'self-edifying'(?) if you know what I mean. In the end, its just my personal taste and take on the world.

Oh, weird, it doesn't take out the line breaks when I open it in Notepad++, but does in Notepad. That's crazy. Maybe it's just my computer. I only changed the name of the .zip file. The actual font is still AlethiTS.ttf. The additional font is AlethiTS_lined.ttf. It just adds another font for those who wants the line in space characters. And both fonts have the line through the period character. Take a look at both and see what I mean. If you want the lined spaces by default, I can change that.

Nice progress! It works really well for me. Also, version two is up on the first post. Thank you both for the catch on that character missing the line. Oh ya, don't worry, version two doesn't change anything that would make your trans-literator incompatible. EDIT: Also, I noticed that line breaks are removed when the tool is run. Is there a way to keep the line breaks? And I was testing some of your new conversions. Seems to have a glitch: Erase. Erasing. Chase. Chasing. Blindly. Ice. Ices. becomes: .eys .eysing .eys .eysing .blindly .ahys .ahysz Er- from Erase and Erasing is removed, as is Ch- from Chase and Chasing.

Here's a fancy tool to keep you from having to use Command Prompt every time: You can make a batch file that will run all of the commands you put in it when you double-click it. -Open Notepad. -Paste this text in and make changes to make your folder setup and file names: cd \Your\Folder\Path\Here set path=%path%;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_02\bin java AlethiTranslator_1_2_1 -Make sure to change 'C:' to whatever your hard-drive letter is. -Also change the name of Kurkistan's file to the current version and the jdk1.7.0_02 to whatver version of the JDK you are using. -Save the file as a .bat extension. When you run it, just enter the name of the .txt file you want to convert, and make sure it's in the same folder as your .class file. And yes, I will make a version with a lined space, too. Unfortunately, I'm still figuring out the font creator program, so I don't know how to make it larger yet, but will try to find out.

I had to download the JDK to run it from Command Prompt, but ya it works! I didn't realize you made the periods move to the beginning of sentences. Nice. I do have a bug report for you though, at least from the version you attached. Here's my pre-/post-conversion test file: Before conversion: After conversion: Notice the second sentence's period does move, but not to the front. Same with the third sentence. Anyway, I'm gonna add in your updates and let you know about anything else. Not sure how to compile the file as an executable, but that would help you get some more testers. I only found one problem: body = replace(body,"ought","awt"); You might wanna make that convert to 'aut' or 'ot' since i never included a symbol for 'w' But ya, no kidding! Ha ha! Would be sweet, but technically hate could be described as not-evil, just what you do with it determines if you are evil, though it definitely points you toward that direction. Ruin is far from evil. To make a forest stronger, let it burn a bit and the ashes of old, scraggly trees will make a nutrient-rich soil for younger, stronger trees. Wash, rinse, repeat. One could also say Preservation is not good. By refusing to let things go all the time, you dam up progress. They key is the "all the time" part for every intent, in my opinion. As parts of the greater whole that was Adonalsium, the power of creation, or 'god' as you might say, each intent, shard, is an important balancing and empowering part of the entire masterpiece. If you have them all mastered, you are doing good, with access to wisdom. While missing a couple pieces doesn't destroy the beauty of what's left completely, having only one piece is too narrow-minded for its own good. Even for Honor, which I admit is my favorite shard so far and probably will be after all are revealed. Now, about those unrevealed shards... Here are some guesses of mine! -We know: Preservation, Ruin, Honor, Cultivation, Odium and Endowment. -It seems Devotion is another, and I thought Dominion was confirmed, though I'm not certain. -That makes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8... missing 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Here goes: -Mercy -Justice/Consequence -Knowledge Hmm, that's all I got.

I think q would be a k sound probably and w, maybe just a u? Then again, words that end with 'ow' make a much different sound: How would technically be Hau But this is where it gets tricky. Tow should be To, with a long 'o'. I don't know, maybe it would be best if I made a unique symbol for w for these cases. That would be taking quite a bit of artistic license, but what can you do? Either way, great work bro! Yours is truly a heart of linguistic fervor! I can't think of a case where 'cea' is used, but that could be a proper translation, either 'sea' or maybe just 'se', depending. Here's where I'm confused. 'ce' seems to me to make a 's' hiss sound, and not a pronunciation of the name of the letter as 'es'. An example would be 'since' = 'sins'. You've probably found a different case where 'ce' is used, but be aware of cases like 'since'. Same would go for 'ces'. I don't see a need for the beginning 'e' before 'ses'. Also, if you wanna get really technically and muck things up like crazy, (almost) anything ending in 's', other than names, would sound like a 'z' instead. Again, I have no idea how much work would be involved in making such an exception which really doesn't matter anyway. Other than those bits, your program is amazingly accurate from what I can tell! PPS: Oh ya! Since you are putting so much effort into this sweet script, let me know if you want a personalized version of the font to fit better with what you want to make the program do. PPPS: Oh right, about the 'gh' thing, I can only think of two examples at the moment: 'bough' = 'bau' (like the act of bowing) 'cough' = 'kof' And of course the lame silent 'gh' like in 'bought', and the wierd 'gh' used in 'ghost'

Also, as the themes of Shu-Korath and Shu-Dereth are based in unity, it's interesting that both Shards reflect this, or I should say, the religions reflect the quality of the shards: Dominion and Devotion, two reasons to unite. It's interesting how similar/balancing Shards end up on the same world. Preservation and Ruin balance each other out, both requiring creation to work upon in their own way, Dominion and supposedly Devotion, each an intent of unity. The Honor, Cultivation, Odium thing is a little more unique, I have to admit. However, I suppose honor can cultivate someone, as can hatred, and one can be cultivated in either. I also don't think it's possible to act in honor and hatred at the same time. Regardless of personal feelings, only one can be the reason to act.

I like to think of the Reod Elantrians as under the influence of a messed up Aon. Like Dilaf's wife who was screwed up by a mistake in an Aon, the normal range of amplification effect from Elantris swapped for a mess-up-yo-face effect. I believe if you were to leave the range of effect before the chasm line was added to the city, you would be back to the normal but weaker form of Elantrian that existed before the city was built. They never had a chance to find out because they were locked in the city and the Shaod only seems to take those within a certain range to the pool near the city.

It is interesting to see how each nationality tends toward one style or another. Maybe it has to do with what styles each person has grown up around.
