Guess we’ll find out if Dalinar dies and Adolin starts hearing voices lol
-
I always wondered if Fleet was about Tanavast, and being swept up into the storm at the end was his cognitive remnants merging with the Stormfather when he died. It really depends if this story is foreshadowing a future event or describing something from the past metaphorically.

I don’t think all four of them are on Roshar either (would make sense if one was on Scadrial especially with Mistborn being his other big series). I think it’s likely Roshar may have more than one though. They’ve likely moved around who knows how many times since the shattering too. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles all the Cosmere-wide stuff going forward. The books seem to be more dependent on each other lately to get the full story.

This series is also the only one that’s explicitly mentioned the term “Dawnshard” too, isn’t it? Tanavast name drops it early in a vision to Dalinar, and now we get a standalone novella about them. They’ll be important Cosmere-wide, but they’ve been setup to be quite a bit more important to Stormlight so far.

I always assumed that Death Rattle referred to the battle at the Tower at the end of TWoK. The crown and the spear are referencing Dalinar and Kaladin. I also assumed the fallen title was probably referring to Kaladin “picking up” the title of Knights Radiant when he swore his ideals at the battle. It’s not exactly clear-cut though. It could be referring to something more, like with Jezrien. But the tower/crown/spear combo always directed me to the end of TWoK.

Frost touches on this with his letter to Hoid. It is possible to hate in a non-evil way. Like you said, hating injustice or oppression. The problem is that the vessel is only going to have so much control over the shard’s raw power (we saw the conflict between what Rayse wanted and what Odium wanted was ultimately what caused Rayse to meet his demise). The raw power of Odium is hatred without all of the other virtues one needs. Best case scenario of controlling Odium’s raw power is to merge the shard with something like Honor imo.

[Theory] Taln Wasn't the Herald Who Broke; It Was Chanarach
Andy92 replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Overall, I like this theory, but I have some hang ups with it. Do we know what happens to a Herald’s body when they die to a Shardblade and return to Braize? Does the body remain while the soul moves or should the whole body have disappeared when Shallan killed her mother if she was a Herald? I know they’re Cognitive Shadows but I wasn’t sure how that part of their return to Braize worked. -
I feel like no one would find Navani bonding The Sibling unpopular if there wasn’t a build up to it of “I don’t want to bond a human.” Most theories from OB guessed Navani would bond The Sibling. I think Brandon put the Rlain piece in there to create some questioning because Navani had been the obvious theory for a while.

I think Shallan’s best book is definitely Words of Radiance. I do agree that her character experiences a change in tone during Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, and it’s mostly due to Radiant being added into the multi-personality thing. The first time I read Oathbringer I also had some feelings of “I don’t like reading about Shallan as much as I used to,” but when I re-read the book and started on Rhythm of War, her chapters started to click with me again. In my opinion, the thing that got me interested in her story in the last two books was to fully treat Veil and Radiant as separate characters. This wasn’t my thought the first time I read Oathbringer, and I spent most of the read at the time thinking “she’s completely crazy now” lol. But once I separated them out and tried to find the purpose in each one, it all kind of clicked and got better for me. Shallan coming to terms and learning from the Veil persona at the end of Rhythm of War was pretty bittersweet from my viewpoint. It was more like the death of a character you’ve grown to like. I’m not all that attached to Radiant, but Veil was becoming a pretty big character that had been around since Words of Radiance. Those are my general thoughts. There definitely is a shift that takes place in the recent two books. If you haven’t liked her character since the beginning, I doubt much changes. But if you liked her in the first two books and weren’t digging Oathbringer (and eventually Rhythm of War), I found the separation of the personalities as different characters helpful.

Kalak explained what's happening with Ba-Ado-Mishram and the deadeyes
Andy92 replied to Mzuka's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It’s more of a tinfoil hat idea at this point yeah lol. I do think what was happening to the Sibling in RoW would have turned them into an Unmade if Kaladin and Navani had not intervened. That lead me to believe the Unmade all used to be similar spren of some sort on the “good” side of the spectrum before being corrupted. Whether or not they were all on the same level as the Sibling or not, who knows. The other reason I thought about this was since Brandon has been pretty coy recently about the whole “there are only 3 Bondsmith spren” thing. Now it seems more like “historically there weren’t more than 3 at one time” which sounds like there are other spren besides the Stormfather, the Nightwatcher, and the Sibling that can be bonded by a Bondsmith. Maybe the Unmade used to be bonded by Bondsmiths long ago as well.- 18 replies

What if Honor and Cultivation had ten children, nine of which are now Unmade, with the last remaining one being the Sibling?- 18 replies

I do wonder what effect killing Teft will have on Moash moving forward. I don’t think killing Elhokar really would leave as big of an effect on him after what happened to his grandparents. He gave into hatred in order to get revenge, but Elhokar is still someone he always wanted to die. But Teft? I feel like that one is going to dig at him terribly, even more so than what we’ve already seen. If his conscience was eating at him after what he did to Elhokar, the Teft murder is going to grip him at a whole other level imo.

The Bridge 4 Kickstarter poster......
Andy92 replied to Paladin Brewer's topic in Stormlight Archive
It probably ended up that way since Brandon knew Rock was getting his own novella next. I thought Lopen get way too little screen time in RoW, but he also was in Dawnshard with a number of point of view chapters. I think that plays into the outlining with Brandon trying to give each character enough screen time throughout the series as a whole. -
We do get to see the side of Teft in this book that was able to overcome his addiction which was great. And Moash could have killed him by other means, but a large part of him becoming Vyre was that he gained access to the Windrunner Surges via the Honorblade. Him carrying around a regular Shardblade without Surges is still fearful, but not as lethal as he is with Surges unchecked with no oaths. Teft was largely responsible for the loss of this Honorblade in OB, and other members of Bridge Four died because of that at the time. With all that being said, I do realize it’s impossible to point to a single moment in ones life and explicitly say “because you did A, B happened.” But Moash largely obtained the Honorblade through Teft’s mistake.

The Bridge 4 Kickstarter poster......
Andy92 replied to Paladin Brewer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Rock will be back. Brandon has said the novella between books 4 and 5 will be from Rock’s point of view, so we’ll probably end up finding out what happens to him back at Horneater Peaks in that time period before the 5th book. -
I was pretty sad with what happened to Teft. Once I finished the book and thought about that one more in hindsight, his addiction was basically responsible for his own death. Bridge Four had Jezrien’s Honorblade until Teft sold his jacket for spheres to feed his addiction, allowing the spy to steal the blade and give it to Moash.

I read the chapters as they came out for Oathbringer but the weeklong gaps and cliffhangers always got to me lol. I haven’t read any RoW material yet. I’m hoping Dawnshard does get emailed out around the end of October. I’d preferably like to read it before starting RoW. What helps me is that I started my re-read pretty late and I’m still in Oathbringer. I only read a chapter or two a day so it should take me up through to the release.

Do we really know that the flashback character of each book has to apply to the specific order? I know it makes the most sense, but it’s also possible that say, Adolin becomes a Dustbringer in the book that has Ash flashbacks. But having a book with Adolin flashbacks isn’t as needed since we’ll already have one with Renarin flashbacks and Oathbringer is already Dalinar flashbacks.

I Am Hosting a Stormlight Archive Mafia Game
Andy92 replied to Andy92's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Thanks for the heads up! I know a lot of communities and online forums play variants of mafia. We rotate through different themes on this site (previous game was Game of Thrones). The game I’m hosting will be starting soon so I thought I’d check here to see if 2-3 others would want to join us. -
Hey everyone! I’m a member of a fansite for a band called Alter Bridge, and in our general discussion forums we hold mafia games from time to time. I’m getting ready to host the next game there, and I’m making this game Stormlight Archive themed! I am planning on having 12 players participate, and currently I have 8 members from the forum who have signed up. I thought I would see if any Sanderson fans with any experience playing mafia would be interested in signing up. Here is a link to the game thread if anyone would like to read my game format over and see if you would be interested. There’s a couple inside jokes in my write up, but otherwise it’s all pulled from the Stormlight series. I do have some references to Oathbringer events in the game, so FYI for any potential spoilers. http://www.thealterbridgenation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4232 Also, if this is breaking a forum rule of some sort by posting a game from another website like this, just let me know and I’ll take it down. I just thought it would be a cool idea to see if any fans of Stormlight would be interested in jumping in this game and joining us! We’re a pretty small game community so it wouldn’t be an overwhelmingly long game. Feel free to leave a comment here if you think you’d be interested in joining!

Way of Kings Leatherbound Kickstarter is Tomorrow, and Another Lost Metal Tidbit
Andy92 commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
Happy to get my tier 5 order in! They really killed it on this Kickstarter. -
I haven’t read that but the vibe I got from Skyward was that it’s Ender’s Game if the humans lost the first war against the buggers. Young pilots being trained on flight simulators, an alien race the humans don’t really understand that operates like a large computerized unit sending information to each other, the jumping in and out of reality for FTL travel...there’s a lot of similarities to Ender’s Game.

I feel like due to the age of the characters, it makes more sense for Dalinar to go out in someway during the first five book arc. Whether that’s through death or through becoming a Shard, who knows.

theory Odium's a bastard and the Scar is spreading
Andy92 replied to Yezrien's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If it works anything like electricity, you can dissipate power as heat when energy changes forms. It probably has to do with the star releasing heat as a changed form of lost energy, and it doesn’t give off as much heat while storing energy.
