  1. An hourglass is also symmetrical, so let's use an hourglass with a storm raging inside of it.
  2. I think they just took off the wording on "all questions must be specific" to deter everyone from thinking, "oh cool I'll ask a question." Doesn't mean you can't do it...I mean you can type whatever you want in that box lol. Doesn't mean Brandon will answer I suppose. But when I ordered a book recently my quote might be considered a bit "long," and he still wrote the whole thing.
  3. I mean, I guess I should know the difference between the two given that I grew up in a Christian church lol. I do know Hebrew is Jewish, but I kind of assumed the language had at least some phonic similarities to Arabic. But I haven't studied the languages or anything myself, just thought the language fit the vibe of SA was all.
  4. That's really cool! Given the Arabic/Asian influences found in the series, I think performing a song in Hebrew feels like a very natural sound.
  5. The status of your order will change to "shipped" on the website when they actually hand it over to USPS, FedEx, etc. Trying logging into your account to see if it says it's been shipped or if it's still processing. If I were you and I hadn't heard anything by the first week or two into March, I'd drop an email to the store. Kara is generally quick to respond. My guess is that the shipping process just takes a while for a smaller business. Theoretically say all the books are signed, and hypothetically they sold 2,000, it'd take 3 weeks to ship them all if they packaged up 100 books per day. I'd say you're fine, but it wouldn't hurt to email them if you don't get a shipping notification within the next couple weeks.
  6. I just got mine like 3 days ago. They're probably in the process of shipping them in batches. And the symbol on this book is steel to answer the original question.
  7. I just wanted to chime in and say Teft's addiction and the way it was portrayed isn't very unreasonable for a couple reasons. 1) In the first two books, we don't really get to see Teft's story through his own eyes. During the events of the first two books, his addiction was there, but repressed. And since we didn't read about his struggle through his own eyes, it's natural to assume other characters wouldn't have known about the severity of his past struggles if he was bottling most of that up inside. 2) People who suffer from addiction backslide quite often. What happened to Teft in OB seemed like someone who backslid. I don't think he was struggling with addiction enough on screen in the first two books for the members of Bridge Four to become overly worried with him. This changes in OB, and that's a very common trait when it comes to addicts. You can have periods of your life where you're not constantly hooked on a drug, but then a few major life events happen, stress kicks in...I don't think Teft's struggle is unrealistic.
  8. Late 2019 I think. Believe he is going to start writing that one later this year, but it probably won't come out until 2019.
  9. Vin and Elend is my favorite. But I always thought Siri and Susebron's relationship was a pleasant surprise given how it begins lol.
  10. Nightblood seems like a long shot since all of his recent updates on that front seem to suggest we're not too close to a Watbreaker sequel. Best hope is that it's a Cosmere novella.
  11. *squeels*
  12. tWoK: Kaladin WoR: Tie between Kaladin/Dalinar OB: Dalinar It's really a dead heat between those two (really not much of a Shallan fan, she's okay to read about but not as good in comparison). I'll give Kaladin the vote just because I liked his story in tWoK so much, and it's the story that sold me the most on Sanderson as a writer.
  13. @hoiditthroughthegrapevine Did you make that?!? I'm in awe lol. I would call it something sinister, like Gary.
  14. Yeah I really don't see why so many people are inclined to believe Odium at his own words on this one. Frost's assessment of Odium seems more accurate. "He bears the weight of God’s own divine hatred, separated from the virtues that gave it context." Hatred in and of itself isn't evil. A divine being can hate oppression, hate lying, hate murder, etc. Odium IS hatred, he's simply acting upon his own intent, hating what he chooses to hate. This isn't divine hatred, and it's definitely not "passion" as Odium describes it.
  15. You could use this surge to make a flying bear that breathes fire and has the face of a crocodile appear out of nowhere which would pretty much win any war.
  16. The original Mistborn trilogy makes a lot more sense to me because you have a completely finished story already. It could be done as one movie of just The Final Empire or a trilogy if the first is successful, the main characters have a protagonist heroine and hero (with Vin and Kelsier) in the first movie, and you have a solid romance in there as well. The film woild need some CGI in places, but not nearly as much as Stormlight would since Scadrial is very Earth-like. You can also condense Mistborn's plot enough to make films out of theme. Stormlight is begging for a Netflix/HBO type of series with multiple episodes and seasons because there simply is too much source material for standalone films.
  17. @The One Who Connects Seems like it can give at least a rough translation even if the dialect isn't perfect. Thanks!
  18. Yeah I think that's mostly their frustration. But on the question of "why does this series get a film but not this one?" I simply believe Kingkiller is easier to film. The single episode budget for a Game of Thrones episode is insane. Assuming Stormlight would require a similar budget to be done well, that takes a lot of up front cost for a production studio, which involves a ton of risk (because if the movie flops, that puts the studio really far into the red).
  19. Odium was getting ready to start a Hitler-esque assault, and he got stonewalled. A one year gap with no major battles while both sides prepare isn't too unrealistic.
  20. There might be an answer to this somewhere. If you had an unkeyed metal mind stored with Connection on Roshar, could you use it to speak to the rhythms?
  21. Kingkiller seems a lot easier to make. Don't need as much CGI for most things. It'd be impossible to do Stormlight without a fair amount of CGI: The lashings, the chasmfiends, the Parshendi (good look getting a budget to do entire Parshendi armies with costumes and makeup). The original Mistborn trilogy is the most ready-made movie as far as Cosmere goes imo. Good plot, hero and a heroine, talking dog. But you still have a lot of CGI involved with flying through the air pushing on coins, the inquisitors with their spikes, etc. Kingkiller seems like a more manageable setting to film. It has some of that Harry Potter flair with kids studying "magic" at a university. Many of those scenes can be shot pretty straightforwardly whereas Cosmere worlds are just so massive in comparison.
  22. I was so confused when I saw that reference the first time. "Did I not pay attention to the first book...?"
  23. This reminds me of that episode of the Big Bang Theory where Amy explains that Indiana Jones wouldn't be any different without Indiana Jones, because with or without him the Nazis would've still found the ark, opened it, and all died. I do understand where you're coming from, but I think this happens a lot in books and movies. If you strip away a lot of a book, you can break the core plot down to a few very important scenes. But what happens if you do strip away all the extra "fluff?" Typically what you miss out on is character development. Journey before destination.
  24. Hadn't thought about that but it really would. "Stretch forth thy hand!"
  25. I think it's tough to beat The Tower from a cinematic moment. The scene in my head that would be the coolest to see on a movie screen is that moment when Dalinar turns to see Bridge Four running back to the battlefield. That scene in general, if shot correctly, would make a truly memorable scene for a film.
