  1. There's a similar discussion in another thread at the moment. Here's useful WoB.
  2. Here's a WoB that may interest you
  3. There was a great WoB settling this at the Boskone signing.
  4. I agree it's not likely there's anything different about the sword or Relis. But the mechanics of this interests me. How about this (and feel free to correct any realmatic mistakes). Shardbearers without a Nahel bond don't hear their sword's screams because the Shardbearer is entirely within the physical realm. Kaladin, like anyone with a Nahel bond, will hear the screams because they're partly in the cognitive realm (or at least have a channel to it through their spren). When Kaladin grabs the sword that same channel to the cognitive realm is connecting Relis through his bond with his sword, either bringing him partly into the cognitive realm or at least letting him hear the screams that have always been there and letting the sword-spren directly communicate with him. There are a couple of realmatic assumptions I'm making there so I don't know if it's possible, but it would fit.
  5. This is the best WoB I know on the matter, from the Boskone signing this year. So yeah effectively it creates gravity, it creates a bond with an object or even just a direction and makes that bond mimic gravity (basically mimic Rosharan-level gravity as an attractive force). You could bond yourself in the direction of the nearest star if you wanted (though I'd recommend bulk cadmium and brass metalminds :)). Edit - I forgot to answer your actually questions So the force behind a Windrunner does change but not because of the mass side of the equation, because of the acceleration side. Earth gravity is 9.8ms (sq). A half lashing would make it 4.9ms. Half gravity doesn't change your mass, it changes acceleration which changes weight. With Illumination Brandon has confirmed they manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum, so visible light all the way through microwaves (gamma, radio, x-ray etc). But you need so much investiture it would be like (to use Brandon's example) turning lead into gold with a particle accelerator. Possible but prohibitive and there are probably easier ways to blow stuff up.

This doesn't give an answer but does give something to think about
  7. Yeah my mistake was I was thinking of 'now' being (Oathbringer spoilers)
  8. I feel this WoB makes it pretty clear Kaladin still has the Windrunner Honorblade? I suppose it depends on what point of time he's talking about - if there's a WoB saying it remained in Urithiru i could believe Brandon is talking about before Kaladin leaves. But that definitely sounds to me like Kaladin still carries it.
  9. With Tanavast, perhaps he realized he was going to be splintered and chose to die before that, bonding his cognitive shadow with the Stormfather to achieve a level of immortality D&D couldn't?
  10. You can mine stuff on Roshar, there are proper mineral deposits, but it's hard. Combine with the fact they do have other useful alternatives like soul casting to metal and gem hearts rather than mining gems, I think it'll be like Scadrial not having radio because they have so much already (necessity being the mother of invention). So I'm sure there's gun powder there but like others I doubt it will be discovered and thought useful enough to be really developed before it's made completely redundant.
  11. We know there were boats and things But that's the only reference I've found. It maybe implies what @Yata said if not proper confirmation.
  12. Yeah this seems right Relevant part bolded. We know a body helps from the other WoB but a body isn't enough, it would seem, the investiture that has basically replaced your soul is still Connected to the planet that the relevant Shard is invested in. You need to (I would guess) either blank your connection or get connected to the place you're going. Of course if resurrected kelsier had access to hemalurgy and medallions this may not be that hard. But the body isn't enough.
  13. If you people were Taravangian, you'd never be let out of your room. Oh, and you're all dumb dummydumdumheads.
  14. Without Honor as a direct investiture conduit you would need a LOT of spheres! Honor blades are already less efficient with storm light. I think another affect would be no longer getting resonance, just like TLR didn't get resonances because he was using too many powers. We also know that the pairs of surges are natural to Roshar so I'm not sure you would be able to combine non-matching surges (though you could use, say, 4 of them, you wouldn't get resonance from two non-matching pairs - that's my hunch though). It'd still be storming awesome though!
  15. Yeah suppression could be the reason. I would like it to be simply because I like that idea, it's elegant. (And yeah i didn't mean to imply all cognitive shadows are splinters, just that in the case of the Returned they are). As a compromise, perhaps rather than being a splinter off-world, it could be a person (anywhere) who has a splinter in them that is from a different Shard to the one they were connected to by birth. Matches the possession idea and the mixing (corruption) of Shards. I haven't brain stormed it to think of problems with the idea though. But it would explain shades (Ambition isn't native to their system), the faceless immortals (assuming they've been Trell-spiked), the Parshendi (Odium isn't native to their system - they don't have red eyes when bonded to native spren but do with voidspren; I wonder if they also would if bonded to Honor/Cultivation spren).
  16. I like the idea @strumienpola, and I like this refinement of it Yata. Though wouldn't that be a problem with Vasher not having redness? (Or have I just betrayed realmatic ignorance by thinking a cognitive shadow is also a splinter?)
  17. It would be stronger but not much, not in the way a Misting spiked with the same power would.
  18. My 500th post! My my posts fly when you’re having fun. May not have my target of reputation matching post numbers but 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. But God of Colors that’s more posts than I expected to do in under 4 months. 4.17 posts per day. A post every 5.76 hours. Every 345.6 minutes. Every 20,736 seconds. Now I just have to improve my upvote frequency to better than one every 8 hours. Perhaps by doing less public self-centred numerical analysis and more useful analysis. Me me me me me. (Or perhaps by being too cool to care about my sweet sweeeeeet internet points).

It’s been a good four months Sharders, thanks for letting me get my nerd on, to the neglect of all else J

  19. This is my favourite idea for Hoid, nuanced around him basically trying to get Connection to every Shard without being limited by it (without the investiture interfering and so on). We know that Hoid rejected one of the Shards so he doesn't seem to want to be powerful in the way Odium is, powerful but limited. So I suspect it's around being Connected to everything. I haven't finessed why that would be so useful. And this topic reminds me of one of my favourite recent WoBs. Hema-Hoid! Kelsier is a popular idea for it, I wonder if it could be Khriss (in light of her interest in hemalurgy). I hope it's not just a Bad Guy, but something more interesting. But this feels similar to me, basically trying to get Connected, perhaps more than just getting cool powers. But yeah I think it's all conjecture at this stage. But conjecture worth conjecturin'!
  20. Aaaahhh. I'm extremely jealous that explains why it wasn't on my list of events to chase up. Awesome! In light of it being a private event I understand if there are restrictions on posting stuff. But if you do want help with transcription let me know, and I or anyone else can start a thread for transcripts, WoBs and reactions if you want to provide the details (or of course you can buy going to the events thread - I get the feeling you'll be deserving a Braize of a lot more upvotes than you currently have (whether or not you care about up votes) good stuff!
  21. Is there a thread for this event? I didn't see one, I've just been seeing @Just another guyn post comments about asking questions. If there isn't an established thread I'm very happy to do some transcribing?
  22. Yeah this is pretty interesting. I'm starting to imagine the soul here as pretty much being a stick figure. It doesn't indicate much about how far down you can classify the components (does the kneecap have a soul distinct from the leg, if that's your cognitive frame of reference)? I'm still very curious about how deep the breakdown goes and how your cognitive view of yourself affects that. But certainly sounds like the 'core' needs to be cut through to sever the soul of each component of the body, rather than a graze or a nick.
