  1. I feel like it's simply that spren can't really lie, so they find it fascinating - but in the case of Cryptics they take it seriously, in the case of the flippant Honorspren (or maybe just Syl) it's a thing of amusement, like an adult giggling at a child's lie. Though maybe you've seen more in it than that?
  2. Yeah this has been discussed a lot in the past, enough for @WeiryWriter writer to class it as being discussed to death see Here (including the threads Weiry links to) That said I still haven't seen an actual WoB, just references to unquoted conversations. The main evidence seems to be the different pronunciation and the fact the story was written for one Matisse and Ati is simply derived from that. If anyone can find a WoB or annotation, or even communication between Sharders and Team Sanderson, it would be nice for my closure at least.
  3. I love everything about this. The possible WoB, the find and the RoB (Response of Brandon). I agree it's not for sure but it's reasonably compelling. And I think it's very fitting, Ingenuity makes sense for creation, innovation, intellectual flexibility, controlled change to a purpose and design. I like it a lot.
  4. My prediction for Book 10 (or possibly Book 5): 10. Thou shalt put the needs of the many before the needs of the few. 10. Ising the greater needing of the many (my High Imperial isn't strong). Ties into Hoid sadly watching Roshar burn.
  5. As for this issue, we do have this old WoB So this says no and yes. No they can't 'now' but the implication is it's possible.
  6. I feel like wrath is anger, aimed at something or someone (or many somethings or someones) and directed towards action. You can sit around and just feel angry, that's not wrath. You can feel very angry at a specific thing but without a desire to do something I don't feel it's wrath. Wrath is directed anger at specific behavior. Or something similar Either way I think Odium has that covered. Edit to avoid double posting This Great find (though of questionable WoB status) by @Sherwin94 and good for additional thinking here. Here's the thread. I can't give it enough upvotes.
  7. There's a recent WoB that seems to indicate they do. It's from the Boskone signing this year. That's why Windrunners are strength and number of squires, not just..squires.
  8. Welcome! This is a fun opening post Noting these are my favorites, and not necessarily the characters I find the most compelling, just the ones I love to read: 1. Lightsong, no contest 2. Kaladin (my only concession to real character rather than enjoyment) 3. Kelsier 4. Hoid 5. Wayne Because it's not enough, the 5 i think are the best written and most compelling are: 1. Kaladin 2. Sazed 3. Gaotona 4. Kelsier 5. Szeth
  9. I was sure there was one as well but I can't find anywhere. The Stormfather's words say he can't have a Shard: This makes sense to me, it's possible to bond more than one spren but I doubt the Stormfather is the sharing type. But i can't see any reason he couldn't also have an Honorblade unless the Stormfather refuses.

There are some useful WoBs So yes they're splinters of Odium and he can influence people on Roshar through them Edit: ninjaaaaaaaad
  11. No I agree with this entirely, I was just being flippant I'm very glad that so many people have found a true community here and I'd never diminish that, especially when reps are boosted by people giving honest and helpful advice to each other, I think it's a beautiful thing! I'm just making trouble
  12. Agreed Argent, I'm not really into the RP or social boards (though I'm very glad so many people get so much out of them), just Cosmerology, where reputation is perhaps a bit harder won. Not of course that I care! I'm too cool for that, waaaaay too cool to care. So cool Gimme the rep gimme the rep
  13. Well there were but @Lord Adonalsium has the right of it, there aren't naturally atium mistings, it was a temporary hack by Preservation. Now there are (probably) none for that very reason.
  14. This may not help but it relates That kind of implies to me that a Shardblade severing the spiritual connection to a Kandra's limb would not affect the Kandra. I'm guessing the Shardblade would have to cut the blessings, or something (some specific part) of the Kandra to sever its spiritual connection to its soul. Against this is that a kandra can get abilities via hemalurgy which begs the question of where you would actually spike them. If their body is Connected enough to receive a spike maybe it says the connection does depend on their created body. It could be slightly analogous to Aimians... If you can affect a hordeling without affecting the Aimian maybe a kandra's limb is similar. On balance I think a Shardblade to a kandra's limb wouldn't kill it. But there's arguments both ways.
  15. Ah thanks both of you, I read too quickly! Though would the bit about perhaps having stolen enough of the person's identity not mesh with that idea of Identity being made up of connections? That in deliberately spiking out the connection that gives the magic using ability (innate investiture I guess) it basically tears off enough of the other connections that they sufficiently match the connection stored in the metalmind? Ha, but yes, one of my less helpful inputs
  16. Lerasium has feruchemical (and hemalurgical) properties but we don't know what those properties are. The best guess I have would be to let you store any powers but I suspect now Harmonium does that.
  17. My take on that @skaa and @The One Who Connects is that makes sense as you need Connection to use a magic system but Identity to use your own stored magic. I gather (and I'm happy to be corrected in this realmatically) is that Identity is the sum of your connections but Connection (in this context) is Connection to the relevant Shard. (For example I'm assuming Feruchemist twins have the same Connection necessary to user Allomancy but could not use each others metalminds as their identity, while being the same originally, has changed through Connections built up during life). So yeah a person who's spiked out another's ability could not use that second person's metalmind as they didn't steal the person's identity, just the connection necessary to use the magic. A person who's had their ability spiked out and somehow survived however still has the Identity to use their own metalmind but does not have the necessary Connection any more to exploit the magic.
  18. Oh yes it wasn't a criticism of your approach, playing devil's advocate is the only way to get to the bottom of these. I agree with you that it's possible based on the wording of those WoBs but I also agree that it's probably not the case
  19. This isn't impossible, Brandon is tricksy like that. Though here are a bunch of WoBs about three Shards on Roshar. None of them disprove that possibility but together they add up to a fair bit. But none of them use the word 'system'. Perhaps someone with good reddit searching can find more.
  20. Nothing indicating it would be other than normal gemstones but why not I guess.
  21. Great summary Yata! And I had never seen this... "And Feruchemy as well—if one knows how to do it." I'm sure it's been discussed in here before I joined but this...excites me
  22. Just some clarity on this point, this was asked after that theory was discussed.
  23. My understanding was that Mistborn era 2 was set in between Stormlight arc 1 and 2, so current Stormlight books are set between the catacendre and Mistborn 2. I agree that Sazed can't be focused too much on Roshar but he does have the kandra, the ultimate avatars. We know there are Kandra offworld and we have a good indication they have been to Roshar Now the kandra worldhoppers could all be pre-Harmony or hidden from Sazed (a la Bleeder) but I think Saze may have an agent or two there.
  24. Yara is right, the perpendicularities will still be there unless something happened to remove them. If a Shard divests the perpendicularity will disappear (without something to keep it) but Devotion and Dominion did not divest, their Vessels were killed. The Dor is an amalgam magic system but the Shards are not combined like Harmony. It's more like feruchemy as far as I know, a system made from the joined investiture of two separate Shards.
  25. I could be wrong but I think metal is simply the physical solid form of any Shard. The question is then how it would be used - lerasium can be burned by anyone but atium only by an atium misting (or Mistborn). So most god metals may be useless for anyone other than a Mistborn, Full Feruchemist (and may still be useless for them), or in hemalurgy (as with Trellium). Some WoBs
