Very interesting. And it reminds me of this. I figured it was because of the victims but maybe it opened him to hearing the same thing going on 'with' Roshar and the screams relate to Roshar rather than his actual victims?

Poland - Warsaw and Krakow events 18/21 March
Extesian replied to Extesian's topic in Events and Signings
Good work on the transcription! The above WoB is gonna keep me thinking who the hema-Hoid is. -
Well this has been fascinating. When I saw the OP I knew it would get downvotes, which is fine, life isn't all about reputation. But I didn't expect that level of outrage. I disagree with so much of the OP, I love Brandon for many of those reasons, we all do. But really it was something that took time and effort, from someone who was clearly a Sanderfan. So I won't fan the flames, I just want to say thanks again @Rockobar for coming on the site, having the courage to post something that would be unpopular and even more courage for responding in such detail to people. I hope you don't get most of the things you want, but I'm glad you care and I really hope you'll be sticking around here and applying that interest to discussions about the Cosmere. I understand people's reactions, just remember that people here are very protective of Brandon. But I'm also glad for your restrained response Chaos; this place should be one of tolerance of different views when they're not abusive to others on the site.

Analyzing the 12th stanza of the listener Song of Histories
Extesian replied to Farnsworth's topic in Stormlight Archive
Merciful Trell you're right. I read the WoB and didn't think the basic physics through in my head properly. It should be exothermic. I can't imagine Brandon, with continuity checking and Peter at his side, getting phase change physics wrong. What are we missing? I wonder if the laws work differently with investiture phase change? Because it's not really gaseous matter turning into solid matter. It's gaseous investiture changing to solid matter (or perhaps solid investiture). Could be that changes it to endothermic? I am intrigued now whether there's a physics explanation to it or if it's investiture having different laws. How about this? Deposition usually requires heat to be released because gaseous matter needs less energy to become solid. Maybe gas form is the 'natural' state of investiture and turning it solid requires more energy. So the process takes heat from the environment to create a solid rather than releasing it. -
It's mentioned in Way of Kings, I always loved it http://coppermind.net/wiki/Extes

Analyzing the 12th stanza of the listener Song of Histories
Extesian replied to Farnsworth's topic in Stormlight Archive
We got a WoB on this a couple of signings ago, it's just phase changing basic physics unfortunately. When something goes from gaseous state to solid state basically. Kinda disappointing but makes much sense! -
Extes Where my Shard name comes from. He was the guy in Rosharan mythology who sacrificed his son to the Voidbringers in exchange for knowledge of the day of his death and in return was made immortal and having his arms torn off every day and its a cooool name for a dog!

Help me find crazy fictional superstitions :)
Extesian replied to Leviathan's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Did you know Outer Mongolians consider 13 a dangerous number, a number of change, usually for the negative. Genghis Khan's 13th and last wife was poorly chosen, for love, and betrayed him to his death. Now people tithe one 13th of their wealth, knock down the 13th building of a town and rebuild it, kill the 13th offspring of any domesticated animal unless it's perfect, have initiation rituals for men on their 13th birthday and give one 13th of their food to the poor? Nah, none of it's true But it could be? I know none unfortunately, other than the well known one of not having a floor 13 in buildings, numbering going 12 straight on to 14. But I'm looking forward to hearing ones that are true! I find superstition fascinating. -
Powering surge binding with the metallic arts
Extesian replied to The Voiceless One's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it just Connection to Preservation (/Harmony)? Vin could almost the mists because of how much Connection she had then could use them properly when Preservation increased her Connection (and was unable to with the earring because Connection to Ruin interfered)? The IRE couldn't get the Shard without Connection. The Heralds could (from memory) use Stormlight directly because (presumably) they had Connection to Honor provided directly by him? So anyone not from Scadrial would have no hope without hacking that Connection either through gnarly hemalurgy or similar, or through an IRE-style plan?- 44 replies

Why Nahel Bonds result in 2 Surges

I found this WoB (I think), I'm surprised I'd never seen it before So looks like the surges that pair together actually make one distinct thing.- 12 replies

The itch between the shoulderblades? The yawn during the business meeting? The cat that you need to call inside? The Escher drawing to the person that needs closure? The seed stuck between your teeth when you have no toothpick? The sentence with no full stop? The metaphor that has no... Edit: welcome to the Shard

I found this old WoB. Perhaps the Southern Scadrians could have been taught to distill ettmetal from the gaseous form of Harmony? Doesn't help the pre-catacedre ettmetal theory (since the mists were Preservation and if they could do that they would all be Mistborn, unless they can only make a tiny amount) but makes me wonder whether that could be how they get ettmetal now? Anyway it was an interesting WoB I hadn't seen before, thought it may lead to some more relevant thoughts.

There's this old one that makes me think Bondsmiths can cause serious trouble

Poland - Warsaw and Krakow events 18/21 March
Extesian replied to Extesian's topic in Events and Signings
Thanks Binnut. Yeah formatting has been a nightmare. I've edited it, seems to help but it's hard to tell from my mobile. First spoiler box still has a bunch of blankness it seems. But hopefully it's more readable. I should make sure I do a big post like that on the computer from now on! Edit: ok I think it's fixed now, thanks! -
A lot of effort to make Zucchini status! But on a more serious note I'm not going to criticize it. People are entitled to their opinion. I disagree, but hey, that's ok. Welcome to the Shard @Rockobar.

Oh I really like this. If I were Wayne I'd take my hat off to you. There are a couple of steps (prior existence of ettmetal and the solution being too invest a continent worth of it) I'm not convinced on and I'm curious to see what the comments are on this. But you've worked in the evidence and connected dots I hadn't thought about and even those two big steps seem pretty viable to me other than wondering if there isn't an easier way than mass investing. I'll think on this more especially as I'm doing a reread of Mistborn. Nice work.

Why Ferchemical Steel works the way it does (SoS spoilers)
Extesian replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Mistborn
It'll be addressed when we see a compounding steelrunner which is high on my list of things. With unlimited speedbursts there will need to be extensive measures to counteract the usual laws of physics I imagine. -
I like this thinking. Though I tend to think (or maybe just want) it to be someone else entirely. I want to see a Khriss-Hoid exchange. Khriss asking for information, or offering to share it, Hoid trolling her with witty inanities and half-truths or something similar.

Btw We have yet another handy WoB from the mostvrecent signing, confirming the system is there due to outside influence. Seems like as good a confirmation as we'll get that Autonomy put the planet where it is (though who knows if it's planet placement or actually creating one of the two suns, presumably that big one) Unless it was done by Adonalsium, but that will break my brain.

I like that WoB but I took it differently. Not that Odium has a new Vessel who isn't human (and the first was) but that Rayse is the original, and he was human, but he's now changed so much as a result of holding the Shard he can no longer be classified as human. We've had a similar WoB in the past about Hoid not really being human any more because of what investiture has done to him. Unless I misunderstood your point?

Why Ferchemical Steel works the way it does (SoS spoilers)
Extesian replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Mistborn
Thanks @Spoolofwhool, @Weltall, somehow I missed that vital bit of realmatics, I didn't realize feruchemy lost efficiency with higher tapping. Makes it feel a bit less end-neutral but I suppose it makes sense. -
Why Ferchemical Steel works the way it does (SoS spoilers)
Extesian replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Mistborn
That does make sense, I'd never thought of it like that. But i think i disagree? The two would still balance would they not? It's not compounding where you increase the efficiency, it's end-neutral and having a decrease for some time is matched by the increase later even if it's 25%loss for an hour now and 100% increase later for 15 minutes. Yeah it's less time but the speed increase compensates. Ie there's the same number of cell divisions/DNA replication either way, it's just drawn out then condensed. -
This is the most agreed theory, though I do wonder if it could be Taldain. We know it was the most technologically advanced before it was isolated by Autonomy, but surely it will be opened up again and SotD is way into the future. And the non-interference would fit with Autonomy's intent (if not Bavadin's actions). Nalthis is also highly advanced and the MO of giving the locals things could fit. That said the technology itself seems to blend best with Scadrial's magic so I still like the Southern Scadrians.

Why Ferchemical Steel works the way it does (SoS spoilers)
Extesian replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Mistborn
We do know the magic will compensate other abilities to enable it's safe use but it is a good question how it does that. However my guess is its not a general biological consequence, it's specifically built into the magic. The same happens with tapping weight, where it increases your strength to compensate. I think simply it was designed that way and it increases mental speed magically, same with strength for weight. It's interesting because they are end-neutral but I wonder if the conversion basically uses some of the speed you put in and converts it? Because I don't think you're mentally slower when storing speed or physically weaker when storing weight.
