Perhaps we are wrong about everything.
Extesian replied to Complexityspren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If I may From the Leipzig signing -
I'd see the problem with this that Harmony is struggling to act with competing Intents. I imagine doing that would be extremely hard (though only based on that fact, I've seen no more evidence on how that problem manifests).

Correct Which is interesting as he certainly worded it as though they were the same. -
This will change my life. That's some Shardic work there Pagerunner!

Nice work @Oversleep I've updated the OP to include this. -
Nah man you never need to feel bad for asking questions or coming up with new theories/analysis here, it's how we all learn! And Resonance is a topic you would never realize exists, especially that particular word for it, if you're not active on the fan sites as I don't believe it's ever mentioned in the books (other than the reference you had in your OP. And may i strongly recommend you read Warbeaker as soon as possible? There are so many spoilers on here it's very hard to be active on this site if there are any Cosmere books you haven't read, and more than that Warbreaker is my favorite of his shorter stories and one of the most Cosmere-significant. Oh, and it's free

I think I was quite careful. At no point did I say that he doesn't have feruchemy. I said they're was an old one but my understanding was that the community no longer considered that likely to be a correct paraphrasing, but that someone would no doubt correct me if I'm wrong about that. I still stand happy to be corrected on that, but I base that on remembering, but not having time to find, shard discussions about that particular WoB. But I agree that I have not seen anything definitively saying he does not have feruchemy (in fact that's the last sentence you quoted), just that all the WoBs I've seen have RAFOed or avoided the answer. I'm not sure I could have given more caveats than I did or made it more clear I was happy to be shown to be wrong.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Extesian replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
@Oversleep I like the ideas of the three realms. They're such a fascinating, integrated idea of reality as it exists physically, in thought and in consciousness/inter-connectivity that just speaking about them 'factually' gets people not only excited about the idea, but going down they're own mental paths of thinking about philosophy, religion, perception and reality. I think it's one of the Cosmere's finest achievements, integrating magic into a solid scientific and spiritual way at the same time. -
Yeah we have confirmation he's an allomancer but if you search you'll find every answer about him being a feruchemist avoids the question, like these There is actually one from 2013 that says he does, but that was paraphrased and has generally been agreed to be incorrect (and someone will correct me if I'm mistaken about that one). There's is also a recent WoB saying that the lerasium bead could not have given him feruchemy but I haven't seen one explicitly confirming he didn't get feruchemy by other means (though how he could is beyond me anyway as he hasn't been spiked).

Jasnah + Nazh = sullen adventures galore!
-
I think Jasnah is perfectly capable of falling in love, and will fall in love with the only person good enough, Hoid. And in a surprising Shakespearean twist, will find out she's his daughter. No not really. I think she'll fall in love with Nazh

I like your analysis, but we're confident what it's referring to is what is called resonance, where two magical powers essentially interact to form a new unique one (to explain it at its simplest). (Storm light Archive spoiler below) Here's a decent explanation, if you search on theoryland.com you'll see more (though not much) and you can search this site for the word. (Stormlight spoiler for the first one) Edit - I just remembered debate over whether Wax is a savant or his bubble us resonance. See below the end of a conversation between @Argent and Brandon, that clarifies the meaning of resonance but leaves open whether that's what Wax's bubble is. And I'm sure Argent and others will correct me if I've made any mistakes here. But the long and short of it is that's probably what Khriss was referring to in Ars Arcanum.

It would be consistent somewhat with this WoB from the Boskone signing

Is this how Parshendi communicate with each other?
Extesian replied to Reborn radiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
There was confirmation of that at the Boskone signing. -

I helped out with this a while ago and it seemed pretty complete to me, but as it wasn't my baby I'll leave it to Oversleep and the other owners to post so they get the due credit. I'll just say there's a few nice WoBs there that I've been keen to discuss -
Could Wayne Eventually Become a Worldhopper
Extesian replied to ILuvHats's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Allomancy at least, yes (and as feruchemy is end-neutral I'd be surprised if it can't) That WoB is from the recent Warsaw signing. -

On the less purely-dirty side, made-to-order human forgeries have a lot of potential for the wealthy with very specific interests... -
I've been UPgraded to a member of group of people that killed themselves in a failed attempt to gain magical powers and no longer exist #thesestupidranks

There is a long fascinating thread on this from a few months ago that you may want to have a look at. We've taken that kind of approach to the point of attempting to map out quadrants with patterns for opposites, pushing/pulling, different realms and godly attributes. It's a pretty good read even if it all turns out to be wrong That's not to discourage your post or people using it is a fresh opportunity to analyze this! That thread hasn't been active much recently anyway. But there's certainly some good ideas on there that you can have a think about or to feed into ideas that come up here.

Yeah this surprised me but the answer sounds like it really is someone other than Wax's or Steris' father, in which case my best guess would be Harmony. And the Interlude reading sounds amazing! Getting to learn about (Oathbringer spoiler) And the Kaladin depression thing, I hope it takes a more minor role by Kaladin healing himself of it by making it clear that was only possible if he views himself as a normal person suffering from an illness rather than it being integral to him as a person. Because that's a key to overcoming depression for so many people, not seeing it as a part of you (which is why some people can't get past it in reality) but seeing it as a treatable illness that is changing your thinking and outlook in harmful ways. To me, that would be both a positive plot step and an important message to real world sufferers. I can't wait for any recordings and transcripts, and as always in happy to help with transcription

I think I'm Lightsong, I want to be Hoid, my friends think I'm Wayne, colleagues think I'm Gaotona, family think I'm Raoden, my subconscious thinks I'm Nightblood and my girlfriend thinks I'm Lift. On the quiz I got David Charleston. Which in reflection is definitely right. We share a name after all!

I like the analysis @kari-no-sugata, but I think the key here is why cryptics bond a human in the first place. As with all of them they need a gap to fill in the spiritweb but cryptics seem to look for people who are broken but lying to themselves about it, but will only progressively bond someone gaining self-awareness in steps. In Shallan's case she was heavily psychologically damaged but has dealt with it by burying not just the emotions, but the memories as well. So a person who is self-aware and admit their problems to themselves will not attract a cryptic in the first place. People who lie to themselves but never gain the self-awareness and courage to deal with their trauma and admit the lies they tell to themselves will attract a cryptic but never bond them. You need someone who isn't self-aware, who lies to themselves but proceeds to self-awareness. It sounds like Malchin couldn't take the step of admitting the lies out loud. In your question about someone who is broken and has the right personality but is self-aware, that self-awareness already rules out it being the type of broken that interests them. They may be broken in other ways but their brokenness is not one of lying to themselves. Cryptics are attracted to people who are broken AND lie to themselves about it. And I agree with your last sentence entirely it's not about gaining self-awareness per se, it's about them being fascinated by big lies that people tell themselves, but the person needs to gain self-awareness to have the ability to admit a huge lie to themselves.

Ha! Sorry @Yata I almost certainly got that idea from that post of yours, which I remember now (and I had even upvoted it) but forgot about it and thought it was my own idea edit: aaah I think I found the WoB you're referring to, this one?
