  1. I'd honestly recommend reading the rest of the Cosmere books before going past WoK. You definitely need to read Warbreaker, at least, before continuing past WoK.
  2. @AonEne Silverlight
  3. I think it's much more likely that the Sibling being referred to by they/them means it's non-binary. It's called the Sibling, not the Siblings, for a reason. Plus, that WoB @Calderis quoted seems highly suggestive to me. What other important spren could we be meeting soon?
  4. I remember starting WoK for the first time. I wasn't worried so much about being disappointed (Mistborn was one of Brandon's first books, so surely the rest just kept getting better), but I was scared of how big the books are. Now, I'm disappointed when other books aren't as long .
  5. I'm currently listening to TheFatRat - Oblivion ft. Lola Blanc. It's really good.
  6. I will admit that after the reread, especially because I was in a lot better place mentally, I was amazed at how good it is. I just don't think it's his best work. Eshonai was okay. She was already on a certain path, so seeing her fulfill that path was gonna be kind of boring. It's far more interesting to see Venli have to work to fulfill that role. Oh yeah, I agree. How I see it is that while there were some loose plot threads or arcs that, in some people's opinions, were unsatisfying, the rest of the book was storming amazing and makes up for its flaws. Of course, we'll see how I feel about it in 15 years. That's fair about the Zane thing. Yeah, I agree that Era 2 is better written than Era 1. That's just a matter of fact; Brandon has improved a lot as a writer since he wrote the first trilogy. What makes Era 1 better to me is the fact that it's all so cohesive and everything is foreshadowed and plotted so well. For most trilogies I read, it's sometimes hard to tell where the middle book starts and ends and it all kind of blurs into one book (same for most series), but not for Mistborn. And the whole thing with the Hero of Ages reveal in HoA was so perfect. I really loved all of the main characters and was rooting for all of them; there wasn't a single character I was bored with. I forgot where I was going with this, so I'll stop now .
  7. So, as the title says, I've just recently started reading the WoT, and I just finished book 3. What I'm curious to know is which books people consider to be the slow middle part? At this point, I've invested enough time into the story to continue reading at least a couple more books, if not all of them. I want to know which books are supposed to be slow so that I can go into them with that in mind. That will either leave me with fulfilled expectations or expectations broken in a good way if I don't think they're slow.
  8. I've been watching Darling in the FranXX, though I am behind by a couple episodes. This is the third anime I've watched. The first two were DBZ (eh) and Death Note (didn't finish, but that's because I haven't had time).
  9. Is this your first time reading it?
  10. Cosmere: I actually really liked Shallan in WoK. She wasn't my favorite character (Kaladin's depression and the last flashback with Tien just resonated with me too much), but she definitely was not a boring character. I wish there would've been a lot more of her in that book. Also related to Shallan, I loved her in OB. I hated that she was doing all that to herself, but I loved reading it. Emperor's Soul is super overrated. I'll admit that the first time I read it I was a bit depressed so it didn't seem as good, but even on the reread it was only a little better. Sixth of the Dusk is the best short story. Lift is actually a fun and interesting character. I actually loved all of Vivenna's story in Warbreaker, from beginning to end. Definitely the best part of the book. Siri's story, despite the romance arc, was quite boring. Szeth is really overrated. I think he will be a really interesting character in the next two books, but he's not right now. He's a little closer after OB, but he was really bland in WoK and WoR, though the idea behind his character was so interesting. Mistborn Era 1, as a whole, is better than SA. Mistborn Era 2, while not as good as Era 1, is a really good series. Venli is probably one of my favorite characters in SA, if not my first favorite. I don't really care if we ever get the Elantris sequels. It wasn't a bad story, I just don't care about Sel or most of its magics. AonDor is just really bland to me, though Forgery is pretty cool. Oathbringer is the best book in SA so far. Non-Cosmere: Inheritance was one of, if not the, first fantasy books I ever read, and it was really good. Of course, I watched Star Wars after having read it and haven't read/watched LotR, so.... The Last Jedi was better than The Force Awakens and most of original movies too, besides Return of the Jedi. I'm not even gonna mention the prequels because I haven't watched them. Rogue One was amazing. The first Divergent book was actually pretty good. Ebooks are actually pretty good. For the longest time, I preferred physical books too, even going so far as to say that ebooks are horrible. But then OB came out and I had no money to buy it, but someone loaned me an ebook copy (I did go back and buy the physical copy and will buy the ebook when I have money to), and ever since then I've discovered I kind of like ebooks better. Yes, there's something special about reading a physical book, but I don't have to worry about lighting when it come so to ebooks and I can never seem to find the right lighting for physical books. Except for a few songs, I really really really REALLY don't like rap. It's so stupid.
  11. "It's not gay if you're holding a knife." -My friend, while holding a (fake) knife.
  12. Oh, I didn't realize that second half was in OB too.
  13. @Sanderson-Savant Garth Nix's Abhorsen/Old Kingdom series is really good. The first book is Sabriel. It's a story about a girl whose father is basically a necromancer and she's training to become one too. It gets a lot more complex than that later in the series, but it's really good. I'd also second @Sorana's recommendation of Powder Mage. It's got a similar feel to Era 2 Mistborn, but more flintlock fantasy than that. It also focuses more on warfare, which is really nice. I don't know if you're keen on reading YA, but The Young Elites by Marie Lu is pretty good. It's the first of a trilogy about people who are cursed with powers after surviving a deadly disease 10 years ago and are hunted and killed because of their powers. Another good YA fantasy book is Mark of the Thief by Jennifer A. Nielsen. It's a story set in the time of the Roman Empire, but with magic. It's another trilogy as well. Both of these, while quick reads, are really good. The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu is also really good. It's based on Asian forms of storytelling and legends, so it is a bit of a different style of book than I was use during to, but once you get used to the scale, both in size of the world and in time, it's a really good book. As far as I know, there's only a sequel, The Wall of Storms, out right now, but there are plans for a third book. Jackaby by William Ritter is basically Sherlock Holmes but with monsters, ghosts, fairies, and other strange creatures. The main character is the female Watson to Jackaby, the Holmes character. There are only four books in this series. It's a bit YA, but it's still really good. If you're okay with reading non-fantasy, Zeroes by Scott Westerfield, Margo Lanagan, and Deborah Biancotti is a pretty good choice. It's about these six kids with special powers, such as being able to say whatever is needed to get yourself out of trouble, or being able to see through other people's eyes. This one is also a trilogy. Epic by Conor Kostick is another really good book. It's hard to describe this one without spoilers and because it's so weird, but it's basically a story on a world where violence has been banned and the virtual reality world everyone plays in is the only way to get more money, social status, etc. It's really good too. I think that's enough for now.
  14. I don't know why so many people hate oatmeal raisin cookies! They're so good. It's really not too hard to tell them apart from chocolate chip cookies. The actual cookie part usually looks more chunky than chocolate chip cookies.
  15. That's a mood. I did a full SA reread a couple months ago and it helped remind me why I love it so much.
  16. Could you please put that in a spoiler box, since it has OB spoilers?
  17. I'm gonna guess that maybe half of both the Windrunners and Stonewards were at Feverstone keep, which puts each order at about 300 full Radiants each. So, 2703 (assuming there are all three bondsmiths) full Radiants. For every full Radiant, I'd wager there's probably another 5 in training. So, I'm gonna guess 13,503. That might be a little high, but knowing what types of threats they faced, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more. Urithiru is gigantic, so....
  18. @Alicia Whiteheart I'm gonna second both Sabriel and Three Dark Crowns. For Old Kingdom (Sabriel is the first book), I'd actually recommend reading them in publication order. I think it's better to read book 4 after finishing the first 3, even though it comes before any of them. I haven't read the sequel to Three Dark Crowns yet, but the first book was really good. A series I haven't seen mentioned yet is The Young Elites (3 books). It's a bit more YA, but the magic is really cool. The main character romance is straight romance, but there's a side character f/f romance hinted at in the second book an de confirmed in the third.
  19. Yeah, I feel ya. I've been trying to work on a couple of my stories, but, even though it's summer, I just can find the motivation, and when I do I don't have the time.
  20. @Steeldancer Hey, how's this story coming along?
  21. Hmm...I guess I could see it going into Light. I think I'll just keep it in Air, for now. It's just easier that way lol.
  22. I think @The Feruchemist has said that the immortals aren't gonna be the only PoVs for the book.
  23. I definitely agree with your first statement. In addiction, whatever made him a Herald and bound him to the Oathpact is now gone, so he is no longer a Cognitive Shadow and is permanently dead, in my opinion. He gets access to Jezrien's Surges simply by having/holding/bonding/whatever the Honorblade. Unless Odium gives him a direct feed of Investiture though (possibly letting him hack surgebinding wirh voidlight?), he will have to absorb stormlight from spheres.
  24. @mosaab I don't see a huge problem in having a time gap between books 3 and 4. There were time gaps between every book of the Mistborn series, and those worked out fine. What needs to happen between and Oathbringer and Song of Secrets (what I hope book 4 is called) is for both sides to regroup and strategize. Odium just lost two huge pieces on the board (Dalinar and Nergaoul), and his plans have drastically changed. His potential army just had a huge blow to morale because of the defeat at Thaylen City, so it will take lots of time to get them ready to fight. There will be reports of skirmishes in the time gap, too. EDIT: There will also probably be lots of new Radiants in Urithiru, and there will most likely be some sort of structure to the Radiants. Kaladin will probably be the leader of the Windrunners, and the other orders will have some semblance of organization.
