Wow, thank you guys so much for the feedback! I hadn't even thought of how me mentioning the possible ascension of new gods would affect the impact of the gods' deaths. I should also decide what Sakeem and Fehl look like so I could actually add physical descriptions lol.

UGHHH, I really wish I could join. I'm just going to be too busy this summer, and I won't even have access to the site most of the time.

I don't think there's as huge of a difference as @Calderis between voidbinding and surgebinding versions of the surges. Personally, I think that Renarin's visions are a weird version of the normal Truthwatcher's Resonance, which I believe to be the ability to see the truth. Since Renarin is unique (as I think he has one surgebinding surge and one voidbinding surge), he would have a different Resonance, which is his future visions. I do agree with Calderis that we probably haven't seen voidbinding yet, unless what Renarin did with the thunderclast in Thaylen City was somehow voidbinding.

There were no surgebinders on Ashyn. The only magic there was the disease magic and, while it followed similar principles, was not the same thing as surgebinding. Also, we don't know that what the Parshendi did in summoning the Everstorm was an act of voidbinding. That was simply them using the powers from a form of power. Personally, I don't think we've seen voidbinding yet. What the Fused do feels too much like surgebinding and the forms of power for the Singers are part of their natural life, not from an external magic system.

That's interesting. I'll have to think more about this.

I've always called it Lightblood, but Dayblood is pretty cool too.
-
That would be interesting if he was able to visit it, but I wouldn't risk it if I were him. No matter how it could help influence how he writes the Ashyn world, experts say that it is really dangerous to be there right now and that the volcano could start erupting even worse at any time. There would be warning signs, but I don't want to risk Brandon dying just for some possible research opportunities. Also, please edit your topic to have [OB] in the title since it references info from the book.

The cookies I give do go best with blood milk. Makes them very dangerous delicious! I can't wait to find out! No matter which one you start with, it will probably be amazing. Yeah, that's one of the uses for it. It's mainly used for hiding spoilers for new books or anything that isn't by Sanderson.
-
First, the way I've always assumed the Fused were made was that Odium himself gave them very small Splinters of his power, similar to what Honor did with the Heralds. That made them into Cognitive Shadows, which is why they don't die when killed. As of right now, the Everstorm is how they are able to get new bodies, but they presumably were able to do so in highstorms in earlier Desolations as well. And yes, @Xaladin you do need to put [OB] in the title until the mods/admins make a new post saying it's okay not to do so.

Hey, welcome to the Shard! Have an upvote and a free spiked delicious cookie! DISCLAIMER: Side effects include, but are not limited to, hearing voices, gaining supernatural powers, having the sudden urge to kill everyone, and completely losing control over your mind and body. The Dark Alley™ claims no liability for any damage done to/by the eater of this cookie. That's awesome that you homeschool your kids! As for getting into the Cosmere, I'd recommend either starting with Mistborn or Elantris. For non-Cosmere books, the Reckoners or Rithmatist are probably the best places to start.

This is from a book I'm calling The Divinity Plot. It's a bit of a detective story mixed with epic fantasy. It's a really fun story, I just need to write it. Sakeem stood over the dead body of a god. @Kureshi Ironclaw Your story seems very interesting, but, as others have mentioned, nothing really happens in that first chapter, though I can tell you're building up to the big scene in the next chapter. If you haven't listened to Writing Excuses, they say this a lot in there: start early, leave early. You want to start each scene write before the action starts and right before it gets boring. You could probably keep up the cleaning scene in the first chapter if you get to the big event you're building up to sooner.

That's pretty good. I really want to see more of it.

That actually wouldn't be a huge problem. I just want a world with floating islands somehow lol. Hmm...could the floating islands have been terraformed to support life? Either way, the people on the floating islands will not live the best of lives. The upper classes of this world will be on the surface.

Yeah, if I really want this idea to work, I guess I'm gonna need magic. lol Thanks for helping me out though!

[OB] Question about Lift and the Thrill
StrikerEZ replied to Nightfire107's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is a pretty interesting question, I'd never thought of it like that before. I have no idea how her boon/curse would affect that, except for the obvious fact she was able to walk through it since we saw that happen in the book. I wonder why she didn't bump into it, since she was able to hold onto Wyndle. @Nightfire107 Also, please edit your post and add [OB] to the title of your topic. -
At this point, it would have to be unnatural. The only thing I really want to know is how you could theoretically cause this situation to arise through artificial means.
-
This is probably very off-topic, but why were you two both disappointed by TLJ? I felt it was really amazing and actually really related to the moral ideas of OB. (If this is too off-topic, we can make a PM or something because I actually want to talk about it)
-
Hmm...at least half a mile, probably.
-
Okay, how about unnatural, but still possible to do it without magic?
-
Yeah, I've said before that it is definitely influenced by a sapient entity, along with the perception of the people using/witnessing the magic, and that greatly influences it.
-
Or through magic, I guess. Thanks, and thanks to @Silverblade5 too Another question for you guys: how possible would it be to use magnetism to make relatively natural floating islands?
-
You see, the answer is yes-it's a bit of a perception limit and also an imposed limit. It's not a huge deal (except I guess for the fact that there is a being that has the ability to put that limit on the magic). I don't want to get too much into that in here, so if you want to ask more, just PM me.

Completely unrelated to the topic, but I went and listened to that song, and I definitely agree that song needs to be played with the scene where Szeth kills Gavilar. Also, on my computer, the first recommended video that isn't another song from the album is a video of the JFK assassination. I felt that was pretty funny, considering Szeth is an assassin. Also, @Parttimedragon, I can't wait to see more of this animation stuff!

I don't understand that reference, but okay. That's basically because I wanted there to be more elements, and I figured separate control over the different phases of water would be an interesting way to work with things. As for stone/sand, that's because I imagine the two things as being different, even though they're basically the same thing just in big chunks or tons of tiny little pieces. In world, it's because they view those things as separate elements, so they control them separately. If you really get into semantics, technically everything is just made of matter, so shouldn't they all be able to control every element? (There's also a bit of an intentional limitation put on the elements by a sapient being, but that's complicated)

Oh @Calderis What do you think of this?
