  1. I agree completely. This has been the largest problem with the lesser spren=Shardplate theory for me. In addition to this, if it was made of spren, how would you regrow Shardplate? I could maybe understand that the Stormlight in the spheres you put into the plate attracts the spren that make up the plate, which then become the plate, but no one ever mentions seeing spren appear and become plate or no one mentions spren at least being near when plate is being regrown. I don't claim to know what Shardplate is or how it's made, but I can't buy into the theory that it's made from/by lesser spren.
  2. I'm not sure what this means for intergalactic travel in the Cosmere universe. But the Cosmere itself is only 50-100 stars, so who knows if they'll go beyond that.
  3. I wasn't trying to imply that the Iriali were the ancestors of the Shin. I was just making a joke about the fact that the Iriali came in a later migration from whatever the Third Land is. Also, I highly doubt that there could be such a thing as "pureblood" Ashynites. An entire planet where all the humans are once race? Yeah, no. I think the Shin are the descendants of 2-5 races from Ashyn that have conglomerated into one race over several thousands of years and due to separation of human populations, which would allow for distinct evolutionary patterns from the rest of Roshar.
  4. Thank you! That means a lot that you're comparing my work to two of the greatest fantasy authors I know. Yeah, I know that not much really happens. That's an issue I need to work on. But I don't know how much I want to reveal about his conversation with his companions. I'll definitely think about it though. There probably won't be a lot more of this any time soon. This is a story that I want to be like my Wheel of Time or Stormlight Archive. I want to have far more experience writing and possibly even get published before I ever truly write this story. I just recently had an 'aha' moment for the prologue, and I couldn't not write it and forget about I think later.
  5. Souls don't go into the Spiritual Realm when people pass on from the Cognitive Realm, they go into the Beyond. I think what Ash and the others felt was that Jezrien was ripped from the Oathpact itself.

@DrakenShadow Hey, welcome to the Shard! Have a free spiked delicious cookie! DISCLAIMER: Side effects include, but are not limited to, hearing voices, gaining supernatural powers, having the sudden urge to kill everyone, and completely losing control over your mind and body. The Dark Alley™ claims no liability for any damage done to/by the eater of this cookie. I just wanted to say that your English is really good! I never would've known it wasn't your native language if you hadn't mentioned it. Also, I love your profile picture. Have you read all ornate the Cosmere books? If so, which one(s) is/are your favorite(s)?
  7. @Undead Wookiee Hey, welcome to the Shard! Have a free upvote and a spiked delicious cookie! 8. I think that the majority of humans on Roshar now are descended from the Ashynites that first came to Roshar. Those who stayed in Shinovar/Shin Kak Nish, even if they were not all of the same race, slowly became a homogenous people that we now know as the Shin. The rest of the Ashynites who left Shin Kak Nash to take over the rest of the planet mostly evolved over time to develop the epicanthic folds (it was probably already in the gene pool and just became more prominent because of the planet) and eventually settled into several distinct regional ethnicities. The Desolation cycle probably helped with (mostly) separating different human populations away from each other, leading to more divergent evolutionary patterns. The Irali are just weird.
  9. Yeah, reading anything too much is probably annoying very fast. It's surprising I like Brandon so much, considering how much of his stuff I read . Yeah, I know. I just have so many books on my to-read list, but no time to actually read them.
  10. Oh...I've been reading the wrong books then. Or just haven't read enough fantasy books. Actually, now that i think about it, I've only read maybe three fantasy books where there's an actual "chosen one." I need to read more.
  11. Oh, I did not know that. That's cool. And yeah, his struggle with wanting to be the Dragon while also not is really cool. It's really weird because usually in fantasy, the heroes always just go with it. It's nice to see someone not want to be the great prophecied hero of legends. Maybe I'll like Mat more as the stories go on. He definitely got more interesting in book 3, and he's getting more interesting in this book. You're good, don't worry. Ooh, I'm excited then.
  12. @jk82672 In addition to what @Calderis said (nice WoB by the way-hadn't seen that one before), Hoid could possibly have known that Shallan was a Radiant through whatever weird way he knows where he needs to be. I think it's much more likely that he was using allomancy, but I can't remember if Shallan was actively using Investiture during that scene. Also, welcome to the Shard! If you want, you could go over to the introduce yourself section of the forum and, well, introduce yourself!
  13. @braxton91 This is non-canon, but I personally think that Cultivation is using Taravangian as pawn, through the Nightwatcher giving him his boon/curse. The Diagram just screams shardic intervention to me. EDIT: Also, welcome to the Shard! If you went, you can go say hello in the introduce yourself section of the forum.
  14. Demoux, an atium misting, is one of the three Worldhoppers we see in the Purelake interlude in WoK and is presumed to be one of the people who brought the common cold to Roshar.
  15. I've heard Mat is usually a fan favorite. So far, he seems a little interesting, but there's not much to him yet. Also, I'm really hoping I don't end up hating Perrin. He's probably my favorite right now, so I'd hate to see that ruined.
  16. @AonEne Bingo! Your turn.
  17. Thank you! This story is very dear to me. It's come a long way, and there's still a lot more to do (like actually write the whole book), but I'm excited to finally share the prologue with people. It makes me happy to know you're liking it so far.
  18. I hadn't thought of it like that. Okay, I can totally buy into this theory.
  19. @Calderis @Spoolofwhool I really like this theory. I'd like to know how you guys feel about it now, though, considering there is no such thing as ambient Investiture.
  20. @Daide @Wander89 The humans on Roshar (or at least the majority of them) are decended from immigrants from Ashyn, another planet in the Rosharan system. Also, welcome to the Shard Daide! You could go introduce yourself in the introductions section of the forum. Have you discovered Arcanum yet? It's this huge archive of WoBs (Words of Brandon, which are quotes from him), and it's truly mind blowing once you start exploring Arcanum and realize how much there is going on behind the scenes.
  21. Eh, that's not quite how allomancy works. The power doesn't come from the metal, it acts as the key, determine which power you get. Lift would still have to eat different metals to get different powers, but she could possibly use the power to fuel her surgebinding.
  22. Hey, @BringerofShadows I see you're new! Welcome to the Shard! For future reference, multi-posting (posting twice or more without someone posting in between your posts) is against the forum rules. If you want to add more, but no one has posted yet after you, you can edit your post and add more. Anyway, you know you're a Sanderfan when you meant to take a nap after reading one more topic on the Shard but it's been 2 hours and you still haven't taken that nap.
  23. Yeah, book three was definitely a lot better than books 1-2. They were good, and I felt they had potential, but The Dragon Reborn was just so good. I don't know how you could hate having so much Perrin, but I'm still several books off, so....

  25. Don't worry, you're good. I reported the post, but that doesn't seem to be working, so @Pagerunner I saw you were online a little bit ago, do you think you could move this to OB spoilers? Do you think it needs to be moved there?
