So in the chapter where her mother tried to kill her, she had a "friend" who held Father down while she tried to kill shallan. I remember it being a guy, and I've just kind of assumed that he was somehow involved with shallans mom. Ill go look it up in my copy.

I think it might be because her mom was cheating on her dad? At least that what I got out of the one chapter.

Radiants using Surges outside of their Order? [WoR]
Steeldancer replied to Everstorm Entropy's topic in Stormlight Archive
A little thing. It didn't used to be that way. Heralds didn't have to use stormlight at all. The honor blades were directly connected to Honor, and Honor directly powered the Heralds. Now that he's dead, Honorblades aren't quite as fun, because now you need Stormlight to operate them, and it's less efficient. -
It's ok. I'd be more upset if it was permanent for some reason. I would have emailed you if that had been the case. If it happens again I'll let you know.

So I was going about my normal 17th shard business when suddenly I went to view a post again and the site said I was... banned? I went to Google and back to the Shard and I was still banned. So I cleared my history to automatically sign off, and reloaded the 17th shard, and I was fine. What the heck happened? I was just viewing posts (and I briefly panicked that I had somehow become the next Zucchini or something) and that happened. Does anybody know why it happened? Why would it tell me i was banned?

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

Yeah. Many of my friends just aren't hard core readers like I am. You have to lure them in. Such huge books are scary to some people. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Steeldancer replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It's mostly thus: People who love action get mistborn. People who love the Romance get Elantris and Warbreaker. And I never reccomend Storm light first to someone, until after they've read some of his stuff. It's too overwhelming otherwise. -
Basically I've been alternating from the music from Guardians of the Galaxy (my favorites are Mr. Blue Sky and Lake Shore Drive) and listening to the Aladdin musical soundtrack. I love the genie, and I pray they use that music for the live action movie. Don't write new music when what you have is so good!!!

I recently read a book called Blink. It discusses the subconcious mind, and how instant analysis and things are made. It was fascinating. I would highly reccomend it. Its well written, and I think it is very accurate about the fact that sometimes a split decision can be much more accurate than a long, thought out decision. Sadly now I'm reading the Kiterunner, which seems determined to make me lose my faith in humanity. Why it was assigned for summer reading, I have no idea.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Steeldancer replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know you're a sanderfan when you can figure out exactly which sanderson book to reccomend to each of your friends, based on their personality. -
I have somewhere the most beautiful recipe: the nutella cake. I swear it is heaven distilled onto your taste buds. If I can locate it, I'll share it. It's worth sharing.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Steeldancer replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Well obviously what you've done you've done. The point is to do everything you can now. Don't waste time bemoaning your lack of judgement. Deal with your education now. Then deal with social issues. There are classes and such that you can take to learn to make friends. But right now doing that essay is the highest priority. So even if you get no sleep or whatever, do everything you can. As for God, I can only speak for my own experience. Without God, I would not have had the hope that quite literally gave me reason to stay alive for a while. But I'm not here to preach, I'm here to help you the best I can. All I can say is i truly feel for you. I empathize with what your dealing with. But from experience, the only way out of this situation is to DO. Even if you fail, you can at least say that in the end you tried. And that feels a heck of a lot better than knowing you didn't try at all. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Steeldancer replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Gosh I dont want to get preachy but I find all those answers through God. He's helped me through some moments where I felt so alone that I had no one to turn to. I suspect that if I had not had that, I would have lost all hope. But all I can suggest is just do it. It's going to be hard. I know it's going to be hard, I struggle with similar issues (although admittedly I still get by. Spoiled by talent I suppose). But I can promise you one thing: somewhere out there there is at least one person who can understand you. I didn't believe that myself until in the last year I met someone who did. You are never alone. Whether God, or a person, or just this thread, someone is there for you. Now go do your best. But don't procrastinate any more. -
Ok i just had a series of weird ideas that I'll have to think over more. First, a White Sand game, Sand mages + villagers vs religious zealots. Second, a game taking place on Aether, now that that is more available to everyone. Then there is the weird one: ant colony vs ant-shaped spiders (it's a real thing).

Mid-Range Game 23: A Desperate Alliance
Steeldancer replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I frankly wasn't paying much attention. But yay! Great game every one! -
My prides are my signed books by sanderson, a signed Fablehaven book, and a collection of first edition Orson Scott Card books. I know his old room mate quite well

I don't even want it on the list yet. I know it's not done yet. Also I may have the stupid plan to win the CR contest in the AG with this character I've thought up... I'll admit, not all of them are super unique. But at the same time... it just sounds fun. That's half the reason I like the idea. Suffice it to say I do not want to start off my GM career with this. I have the princess bride one that should work great (apart from some win condition stuff I was trying to figure it out- which I solved the issue today!). Maybe ill come up with a sanderson game at some point. But yeah. Don't expect to see this one any time soon. If I ever feel like I've gotten it to a place where it can be balanced, then I'll ask for it to be on the signups list.

Pagerunner discovered harmonium. I've got mild hero worship for that alone.
