  1. Hmmmm, well Stormfather still hints that Honorblades grant something...more even though they are no longer feuled by Honor. Yessssss. One of Sandersons best chapters ever IMO. Can I just stop and say that this book is wayyyy better than WoR, and not just because it's less predictable?
  2. How is there an Alethi name Ned? Seriously, Ned. Just.......how?
  3. At this stage, I'm thinking they used the Rythms of the Parshendi and/or their connection with the Unmade to affect them all at once. I believe the Listeners were saved because they severed this connection with Dullform? Or am i mis remembering? It's probably similar to Ishars likely ability to alter the Nahel bond and destroy all Surgebinders.
  4. There is totally an Unmade at the Tower and I'm sure it's responsible foe the copy killings. How long was that Unmade who created the Thrill just laying low in Alethkar radiating low key madness? I think there is likely an Unmade at the center of the Everstorm as well.
  5. Dang, loved Dalinar physically sparring with a priest as they verbally sparred about Dalinars heresy. Well done Sanderson. Dalinars chapter was flawless. Just tell me what makes the Heralds so awesome and what Honorblades have that make them special??? Also, the Nightwatchers magic ain't got nothing on surgebinding son! (Rest In Peace Shshsh ) Syl, stop being a punk. Pattern, go get your man! You deserve to be happy. Lastly......NOW you guys can worry about Shallan. Likely related to the rythms (the bond that connected them) and their bond to the Unmade. Hell, Isher apparently had the ability to wipe out Surgebinders so yeah, Bondsmiths are Powerful.
  6. From WoR: "I am sorry that you have to die this way." Dalinar stood still......"Who spoke?" ..... Wait . . . He recognized that voice, didn't he? It was familiar to him. Yes. He'd heard it many times. In his visions. It was the voice of the Almighty. Then later: "I am the one left behind," the voice said. It wasn't exactly as he'd heard it in the visions; this voice had a depth to it. A density. Aannnddd: "Are you the Almighty?" "I said I am not, child of Honor." "Then what are you?" I AM THAT WHICH BRINGS LIGHT AND DARKNESS. The voice took on more of a rumbling distant quality. He can switch between sounding almost exactly like Tanavast to his ALL CAPS I AM THE STORM thunder voice (which still sounds like Tanavast)
  7. Hmmm, I don't think Tanavast is still kicking in Stormfather.......Stormfather is so powerful. That said, I do find it interesting that Stormfather has basically the same voice as Tanavast. So Stormfather sounds much like a young 30 year old dude.
  8. Yeahhhhh, I kind of got the feeling that some people thought that I was indicating that Windrunners could pick up weapons and, with no training or experience, demonstrate skilled use of those weapons.....that was my mistake. I dont know what it could be man. I've read Stormlight many times and I still don't even understand how Gravity + Atmospheric Pressure = strong followers.....just....how???? Can someone explain to me how this makes sense? Yep. I'm sure we'll get artists of all kinds. One of the things i'm most looking forward to with Stormlight is seeing the expanded Orders. I want to see knights speaking similar oaths, gaining realizations and communicating with one another about how they got there. Oh snap!
  9. ^^Well Windrunners do have powerful squires so he may be able to pull it off.
  10. Oh boy...Szeth couldnt heal using an honorblade Hobber might not be powerful enough to heal......
  11. Talent here would be his ability to read his opponents and the environment, his agility and grace and dexterity. A Windrummer might be an awesome dancer for example. Every Radiant has access to Plate and Blade and increased strength speed and durability but we know there were non combatants among the Orders. Just because you have a certain power doesn't mean you have to fight. You can have a Windrunner who leads and take actions to protect but who chooses not to engage in violence. Why would that be an issue? It's totally her artistic ability and unholy acting talent imo. I'm sure not every Lightweaver drew......the failed warrior Lightweaver for example probably never sat around sketching. Sykybreakers get the ability to accurately gauge guilt. Or that scene is just the result of Stormlight amping the talent granted by his bond. Chapter 54
  12. Thanks Dlyol.
  13. I dont remember this. Do you have a quote?
  14. Yeah that was the way I first pronounced it though i eventually went with two syllables because it sounded cooler and more.... i dont know, ancient? Some Word of Brandon : I'm assuming the asterisk is preventing him from surgebinding. Hopefully we get to see this immortal demigod killing mofo go all out though. I do wonder how long he has been working though. The Skybreakers never disbanded but has Nale been with them and dealing with highspren this entire time?
  15. How do you pronounce his name? I say/think it with two syllables : Nah-Lay Why is he such an unimpressive combatant? Is he a lighteyes? Are his eyes grey?
  16. ....You know i agree on these points. Hey, healing isn't a mystic concept either but it can still be granted via magic. Remember when Kaladin starts dodging blows by something deeper than instinct and starts feeling as if he is the wind? I think that relates to a bond with wind spren and lends itself to his fighting talent. What do you think he is directing us away from by alluding to Syl and Kals bond stretching back to his childhood in some form or another?
  17. I cannot imagine a reason why you wouldn't summon it into your hand. I'm sure a summoning cannot displace a body or other solid matter (assuming they can even be summoned any significant distance away from thee user). It could also just be that honorblades have a summon to body effect and the shardbladed are just (powerful) imitations soooo......
  18. I don't think his skill comes from Stormlight. I think that he has a lesser bond with wind spren that give him his fighting talent and super dodging abilities. I think it's similar to the greater and lesser bonds that men have with Blades and Plate respectively. I think Shallan has a simlar bond that provides her super!drawing skills. Eh.....I take us when used in such a context to mean 'you and I both.' If Syl/spren/bonds played no part in Kaladins natural ability with a spear in his youth, Syl could have just said "Its you." What part does the bond play in Kals youthful talent in your opinion? You did indicate that 'us' included the nahel bond. Eh. I think his natural ability and talent (and super dodging) comes from his bond. His training allows him his overall skill level. Stormlight then pushed that skill to its limits. No I definitely think that's the case. We agree on this point; we just disagree about whether this constitutes a specific magical bond.
  19. ......adding nothing to the discussion. Le sigh. Okay, here is the exchange: Kal: "It's like when I first picked up a spear. I was just a child. Were you with me back then? All that time ago?" Syl: "No and yes." Kal: "It can't be both." Syl: "It can. I knew I needed to find you. And the winds knew you. They led me to you." Kal: "So everything I've done, my skill with the spear, the way I fight. That's not me. It's you." Syl: "It's us." Kal: "It's cheating. Unearned." Syl: "Nonsense. You practice every day. Kal: "I have an advantage." Syl: "The advantage of talent." What does it mean that the wind knew Kal? Sounds to me like he already had a bond with spren as a child before Syl found him and that his talent is a result ofthat bond. And yes I'm aware that Kal was partially dumping on himself while training but given the above, i see no reason for that to be the only thing at play.
  20. Calling my post cancerous really detracts from your claim of wanting to be friendly........Why would you type this? We would have to assume Kaladin is unaware of this, yes? That makes little sense considering Kals years of experience. @Starla I don't recall him attempting to throw his spear. The implication from WoR is that Kal has always been under the influence of the bond. Can you think of any reasons that Sanderson would choose to have Kaladin and Syl indicate that his talent with a spear as an effect of the Nahel bond if the two are truly unrelated? I cannot. It's not as if he has abandoned the idea that Kaladin shared his bond even in childhood...... I find it likely that Shallan also had her incredible artistic ability from her own bond in much the same way.
  21. I wouldn't believe that pain to his leg would cause a man to be unable to move his arms properly, or weaken his fingers to the point that he cannot keep a grip on a weapon he has used for years or make the weapon feel off balance in his hands...... By your logic im surprised Kaladin wasn't constantly dropping his crutch and knocking it about, the poor injured bastard. I find it more likely that Kal has simply never used a weapon without the aidof his bond. As for your question, naturally I cannot provide a definitive answer as the text is ambiguous. Apparently, the nahel bond has somehow impacted Kaladin since childhood. Sure. Syl is wrong, Kaladin is wrong, the arena fight was partially Kaladin imagining things and Brandon is wasting his time writing this into the story. My post has nothing to do with the play between Kaladin surges so I find the quote concerning resonances useless.
  22. ......so Kal couldn't hold or thrust with a spear properly because his leg was hurting? And Kal couldn't determine how much his leg was impacting his ability? Hrrmmm Luckily, Syl and Kal had already confirmed that his skill was a result of their bond sooo........? Not sure what there is to debate here when it's spelled out clearly.
  23. Eh, Syl and Kal both acknowledge that his skill comes from their bond, and when the bond breaks, Kal finds he cannot even perform basic drills and stances with his spear any longer. He even findd himself droppimg it. The only natural combat advantage he has is his immense size.
  24. I know. What I meant is that if you were a casual reader, you wouldn't even recognize the 'easter eggs.' Zahel is just another old odd ardent (why would he be a shapeahifting alien?), Nightblood is just another spren blade (why wouldn't it be?), the 17th Shard is no different from the 100 other secret societies native to Roshar, yadda yadda, so on and so forth
