  1. A Song of Ice and Fire by a veerrryyy long mile.
  2. Syl revealing her true nature. Not really that hard to decide.....the scene in context with the proper build up was incredible to me.
  3. Moash's eyes turned tan because they were initially dark brown (and parallelisms!). Dalinar's eyes didn't change color when he bonded a new sword and neither did Sadeas' or Renarin's. There's already such a variety of eye colors. Any relation to the colors of gemstones seems....pointless? Humans existed before surgebinding.
  4. Lol yes, Brandon agrees with us on this one. I had read this previously.
  5. Is it possible for me to use a number other than 10? ........Of course not. 1: Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king. 2: Atticus Finch: "You've threatened violence against me. Come. Hit me. Rob me. Do it knowing I've lived among you almost my entire life.....Come in. Bleed one of your own!" 3: Standing before the deathspren was a tiny figure of light.....That glow was so pure, so sweet. It seemed to be the glow of life itself. 4: Szeth found himself crying. His orders were simple. Kill. Kill as you have never killed before. Let the innocent screaming at your feet and make the lighteyes weep. Do so wearing white so all know who you are. 5: "I am honorspren. Spirit of oaths. Of promises. And of nobility." 6: "What is a man's life worth?" "The slavemasters say one is worth about two emerald broams." "And what do you say?" 7: "Who am I? I... I am Talenel'Elin, Stonesinew, Herald of the Almighty. The Desolation has come. Oh God...it has come. And I have failed." 8: Even after saving Bridge Four, darkness had shadowed him. That evaporated.....He grinned. Then, he looked upward, towards the sky. 9: A single awespren, like a ring of blue smoke, burst out above him, spreading like the ripple from a stone dropped in a pond. 10: "Honor is dead.....But I'll see what I can do."
  6. 1. The colloquialisms.....get your awesomes and my bads out of my epic fantasy. 2. Fake deaths......love Jasnah but no........just no.
  7. I'm my opinion, the shorter word count served the Prologue quite well.....I really enjoyed it. It was concise without feeling rushed. I'm sure Szeths prologue would have been as short if not for all the crazy action descriptions. It was really Jasnahs chapter that was needlessly packed with unrelated events (she hired a hitman, was tested and slipped into Shadesmar, ran into 2 heralds, and witnessed her dads death in the space of an hour?.....right). As for the next 2.....I'm not sure how to feel. I would rather quality over quantity (in terms of point of views). Give me substantial chapters told through fewer viewpoints if need be.
  8. Hopefully not. I know Brandon is an experienced and technically skilled dude (hell, I've listened to pretty much all his writing lectures since discovering him) so while I'm not big on the fast paced telling and not showing of the Bridge 4 developments and warcamp movements, I don't expect it to continue. Just a bit lackluster for an opening to what should be a very epic book.
  9. This chapter made me like Eshonai and give a darn about Gavilar......so there is something. I much prefer Eshonai without the burdens of her entire people bearing her down. Kaladin and Dalinar already did the chains of commanding struggle so there was nothing new that Sanderson could add through Eshonai. And Gavilar as some mad conspirator who wants to bring the world to war? Yes please.
  10. Same. Must say, I enjoyed the Prologue (much more than Jasnah's though much less than Szeths). What threw me there is just the sheer randomness of the Parshendi stumbling across Szeth juuussst before the king happened to outline his plan to Eshonai. Its too much and the assasination was too last minute....instead of talking to the king the 5 immediately vote to kill and bring war on their people? What about the others in the kings meeting? It left a bad taste. I do agree with the first 3. The writing was subpar compared to WoK and WoR. I enjoyed Kaladin appointing lieutenants, bridge 4 walking around getting used to Dalinars camp and their new position, trying on their new uniforms, and getting their tattoos...it made Dalinars plan seen feasible and realistic. Here, we would learn of that transition from slaves to Kingsgaurd in a few lines. I cannot believe that one of Dalinars men told him he should be sticking his sword in the "squishy parts." This from a hardened professional killer.
  11. ^Has probably doesn't the same self perception as Lopen as being whole man. I doubt he would regrow his eye just as Kaladin couldn't heal himself of his brand. And yeah, WoR seemed like obvious setup for Shallan to have her own crew of squires.
  12. ........well yeah. Brandon clearly didn't his play all his cards in the first book. As he would say, he has to something to write about and wow the readers with. Just be patient.
  13. I just came to say.....this cover is terrible. The composition is odd, Jasnah looks odd, the thunderclast is too freakish huge and isnt intimidating at all. I would be embarrased to be awen reading this in public. Luckily, Im a hard cover man so i can just remove the dust jacket
  14. Boring opening. It felt like so much was brushed over. It didnt feel as....substantial as I have come to expect from Stormlight. Lopen already had his other arm? No one cares that the Kingsgaurd betrayed the king or a renegade shard bearer? I would rather have seen a chapter of Dalinar dealing Elokhars condition, the logistics of such a large move, and finding out about Sadeas come the chapters end. Opium has some cool imagery though. Someone get on that black knight asap!
  15. I like the idea of Kaladin's fourth oath being concerned with leading. I think it'll come during a motivational speech delivered to Bridge 4.
  16. Methinks the fandom is reading too deeply into things and this is proof of nothing.
  17. This.....sounds terrible. No thank you Hollywood.
  18. Kaladin was called a child of Tanavast. Dont over think it. It just means that Honor created humanity. Its similar to how in Christianity, the Lord is our Father. For an world example, check Shallan being referred to as one of Ishar's knights. This doesnt mean that he thought Shallan was a Bondsmith or anything. Ishar is the one who organized the surgebinders, therefore all knight radiants can be called Ishar's knights.
  19. Words of Radiance felt like a lot of set up and we kind of knew what to expect going in. We knew that Szeth had been sent after Dalinar and that we would have a windrunner vs windrunner match. We knew that Dalinar would try to build a united army, we knew Shallan was headed to the Shattered plains, we knew the Parshendi were likely to become voidbringers, we knew Eshonai would try to sue for peace, etc. Oathbringer though? I don't know what to expect. Here's what I hope to see though: I'm a big Bridge 4 fan, so I definitely want to see a stormlight imbued Bridge 4 pull off something even more badass and heroic that their rescue at the Tower Battle. Taravangian is awesome and one of the most unique villains Ive seen in a while. I cant wait to see more of the inner workings of the Diagram through the eyes of one of my favorite Bridge 4 members, Moash. I'm also excited to see Szeth and Nightblood vs Honorblade wielding ninjas and learn about Dalinar's wife, Gavilar, and mini Renarin. I also want to see the fallout of Sadeas's murder at Adolin's hand. Lastly, how will Jasnah react to Shallans joining of her worst enemies? I fully expect Shallan to try to deceive Jasnah.
  20. I actually don't think Moash is being set up to be some big villain nor do I see him as evil. He did try to kill Kal to protect himself and hide his crime but he feels extremely guilty and took no joy. Hurting Kaladin was the last thing he wanted to do... Its just that he's a man of conviction. Kal wouldn't waver in opposing him so he acted. He's probably going to be the one to give us some insight into the workings of the Diagram and I think that he will eventually bond a spren and become a surgebinder. There is still the chance for redemption.
  21. Wow, Brandon really does think of everything. What a G.
  22. Arent the Parshendi just one nation of the Listener race? There are others of their kind out there though they wouldn't go by the name "Parshendi" because they're not of that specific group.
  23. Maybe. Obviously I can't dispute an interpretation of that line of dialogue so, 'okay.'
  24. ...No. Rosharans are pretty different from Earth races. That's not how Brandon tends to roll (except on Scadrial) so we won't really know until we see them. With Rosharan races (which the Heralds may not be), Shin are closer to the "average white guy" in terms of appearance but shorter and balder. They're the only ethnicity we know of on Roshar with white skin and no epicanthic fold. You mean nappy hair? Black guys don't seem to have nappy heads on Roshar nor do they have wide facial features. Those belong to the blue skinned, white haired Natanatan. Black guys on Roshar are described as being small and fine boned, like our boy Sigzil. When non Rosharan black guys come to Roshar (Grump and Blunt) they're described as incredibly odd looking Makabaki. and yes, Shalash is described as dark skinned with hair that hangs to her waist. He was probably too dead to swallow his saliva so it ran down his chin. Why do you think Nale would be randomly throwing shade at Jezrien to people who have no clue what he would be referring to?
  25. After what event and why would she regress? We also have "I'm terrified" which iirc resulted in her soulcasting.
