Hrmmm, it seems like it only started moving with the coming of the Desolation. Before that, he was just chilling, corrupting the Alethi for probably centuries (the Alethi are known for the Thrill and it was used by even the Sunmaker way back when).
-
So our first Unmade has appeared.....and it's a blob monster? Alright, we'll see how that goes. I doubt something so small could corrupt all of Urithiru with madness. However, Nergaoul could influence an entire country by radiating the Thrill for decades and decades without issue, so eh? To hell with young Dalinar, killing his own men. Have any of you seen the film Baby Driver? Rhythms seem to be all over the place on Roshar with even the Ryshadium galloping in rhythm and attracting music spren. If they do make the Stormlight movie, it would be awesome to see Shardbearers and soldiers influenced by the beats of the thrill fighting with the battle cut to the beat of the soundtrack. Lastly....I like Evi.

Malata just seems like a smug haughty person who assumes too much familiarity....so annoying, yes. Interesting that her spren is named Sparks.....I guess Dustbringer spren are similar to red lightning spren? Also, Dustbringers are looking more and more like a real power-house Order, as was expected.

I don't think that's true really. Its just a means of broadly categorizing individuals. You dont have to do such a thing out of malice.

First, this confuses me. If race is acknowledged and used as a means of classification, how on earth does it not exist?

I would return it. I want my book whole, thank you. That said, I'm glad I wasn't the only person thinking "this picture would piss off Shalash so much."

You seem to have somehow lost the plot....this discussion is not about whether the Alethi discriminate based on skin color. This is about whether the Alethi identify races based on skin colors. Here's the comment you made that I took issue with: Which was said in response to my reply: to Aleksiel's comment: Are we back on the same page? I posted comments where Kaladin clearly uses skin color to identify and assign race. "Too dark skinned to be an Alethi." They do all the time though, especially when theyre trying to identify where a person is from. Here's how Dalinar describes Radiant that he meets: Were those eyes actually glowing, leaking Stormlight? His skin was dark brown, like a Makabaki, and He had short black curly hair. Unlike her companion, she had light skin-not pale like someone from Shinovar, but a natural light tan, like an Alethi. The man turned; his skin was tan and his hair dark like an Alethi.

That doesn't support your argument. Simply because Alethi don't typically discriminate based on skin doesn't mean they dont identify people by racial features....they do it all the time. Kaladin about Lopen: The man had brown hair and deep tan skin just a shade too dark to be Alethi. Kaldin about Sigzil: He had dark brown skin and black hair - that meant he was Makabaki, from southwestern Roshar........Foreigners were common in bridge crews - those who didn't fit in often made their way to the crem of the army.

Yeah the Alethi are far more classist than racist. That doesnt mean they dont recognize race though. @kari-no-sugata It makes sense that she would be depicted as having vaguely Asian features (even though that is incorrect) since pretty much everyone on Roster does.

Thank you! Which makes me wonder if they are supposed to be black or just super racially ambiguous. No ideas what the oilsworn are or where they came from. Cannot wait for my book to arrive! These paintings look better than M.Whelan cover. The meaning is relative to the area where it's used but I'm not sure why that would cause confusion. You know, if on earth, Im sure the Alethi would likely refer to themselves as white. However in the books they always use tan if I'm remembering correctly. Sanderson is an American author though so generally he'll come from an American perspective. They do have a concept of race since they use skin color and physical features to determine people's likely ethnic and national origins, right? Or am i misunderstanding what race is?

Are these guys supposed to be black skinned? It's hard to tell from the art gorgeous as these pieces are! Regardless, I'm going for Ishar and Ash. Ishar is the maddest of them all and is Tezim for sure! The guys too old to be Jezrien or Honor (who are both young dudes). Edit: @BlackYeti Are these in world paintings?

Nah. If you feel that the serialization is hurting your enjoyment then stop....if it's not them keep on trucking brother, what's the harm? Sanderson is getting our money regardless. This is just to build hype and allow Sanderson to show his fans some love (and so he can laugh at our theories each week). Btw, first thing I'm doing when I get my book is going to Moash! Need to know what my boy is up to. From there it's on to Eshonai to learn if she survived. Then I will start from the beginning like a normal person.
-
I think he agreed to poison some guy because of a debt? Im too lazy to go look it up.
-
After reading previous posts, I must say that I find Oathbringer far superior to WoR and WoK so far even in this serialized format. Dalinar's past i find far more engaging than Shallans or Kals and Dalinar is honestly a more compelling lead for Stormlight due to his focus on the big picture. His struggles seem less....petty? Small? He really feels like the lead of the book unlike WoR where Shallan often took a backseat to Kaladin..... Oathbringer just has a far worse title but that's whatever. We'll see if my beliefs hold true when the book gets bigger and messier.
-
Hrmmm, Ym seemed like a pretty cool guy though. Definitely. Kal killed Syl and Shallan suppressed her memories of her Radiancy for years.....I doubt that is common for full Radiants. My word....do you actually take pride in what you have done?
-
As someone who has not read Sixth of Dusk, I had no idea about Aviar specifically and assumed that Ialai was just being extravagant and different by having creatures so exotic as birds flying around her area.....it's why I haven't joined in that conversation at all. Color me surprised to come and find pages of conversation about the bird being not a parrot but instead a magical alien super power granting bird (I really spoiled myself hard on that one). Nightblood is an exception though and he is not an "Easter Egg." He was created by Sanderson as a failed alien shardblade and was always supposed to be a part of Stormlight. He will be explained in greater detail when it becomes necessary.
-
I know though I don't understand why. What else has Syl called Kal? Gloomy? Brooding? I propose that gloomy is the spren term for a Knight depleted of Stormlight and brooding is the spren term for a Knight in need of investiture.
-
.....Nah I think she was using the standard meaning of the word and the context supports this. Same for Gavilar. Kaladins men didnt look up to him because he had magic.
-
Could you clarify? If you're asking if Brandon Sanderson had real world creatures in mind when creating these beasts then yes. If you're asking if Rosharan creatures are literally evolved from common creatures then I'm going with no.
-
I don't know that being a former slave would preclude him from gaining rank if free and in the military. Btw, he is wearing a generic Kholin uniform and not his Captain outfit or even a Bridge 4 uniform.
-
.....Or vibrant just means vibrant. Maybe he is referring to the time when Listeners werent a half destroyed people living in a stone age.
-
Nahhhh, that makes far too much sense to be acceptable. /sarcasm No. Shallans eyes dont change colors and neither do Renarins.
-
No. However some.....theorists* do believe that a comment Nale made to Gawx was actually concerning Jezrien I don't think this is the case. Syl isn't the only young female spren I'm sure.
-
Words of Radiance is red. The Lightweaver symbol is red....Violets are blue. She wants to get in Dalinars pants. Dalinar has no game though and misinterprets her. Thank you.
-
I don't think it's the same type of Spren.
