[OB] The Grand List of Characters related Questions
Nymeros replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
So awesome? It's because he's so complex (with a dash of baThis post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules thrown in for good measure) -
That's so surprising to read; the two are just so different from one another that I cannot imagine their stories following similar beats. I don't see Eshonai as to type to serve Odium out of fear, ever. She would have gained superpowers, found her lost people, then started wrecking faces. She's too much a woman of action. For example, at the Tower Battle, her first instinct was to do her best to kick the crap out of Dalinar and inspect him instead of simply speaking with him. Exactly Eh. The question was never "would Rosharans call an invested sentient spirit a spren." It was "would Eshonai's would become a spren as readers understand them to be" which was always pretty silly to me.

[OB] The Grand List of Characters related Questions
Nymeros replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
So many RAFOs! Most of these peak curiosity but we know we have to wait for the future books. 9) I think we know the answer here to already be a 'yes' since Navani indicated blood ties to Evi were required to make a claim to Adolins plate. 12) Is this a question to be asked and discussed? It just means he lacks qualities that would attract a spren. 1) Too dark to matter. Brown I'm sure. - This one is answered in story. It's because he was a champion of Honor. Odium defeated Honor and gained the right of conquest during the 4500 year period: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_conquest Nale could ignore Odium and the Fuzed because they weren't in a position to establish new laws, and many here believe that Nale worked so hard to prevent a new Desolation because he had no desire to honor that right. - Different strokes for different folks. Sigzil only just admitted to failing his exams in Azir and we still don't know who he attempted to murder and why. -
Yessssss. Thank you Brandon. Eshonai's death was perfect and her coming back to life after being dead weeks would have been crazy. She was too boring and duty bound in the present anyways. her past self was much much more enjoyable so I look forward to her flashbacks.

I won't address any specific complaints from the OP, just stopping in to say that I find it curious that this book came out around the same time as The Last Jedi, both had failure as the most important theme, and both had "well im not sure how to feel about that" reactions. Lol! This book was not what I expected and I'm fine with that. After the predictable WoR, I was impressed that Brandon could still keep me on my toes.

[OB] Who’s your favourite of the three main POV characters?
Nymeros replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Dalinar is on some grown man business....he's my pick. Dude is my favorite Cosmere character. -
You sound like the people who were saying that they were disapponted that Adhesion, the Surge of vacuum and air pressure, was only good for sticking things together....... Just be patient.

For sure. Disredarding in story portrayal, the fact that Kaladin was shocked that Rock could at all use a weapon built for users of Shardplate says it all. Kaladin (while infused) also was hesitant to wrestle Rock during a sparring match. Yes. Lighteyes are apparently descended from Surgebinders. No it's for protection. Taking blows you can block is silly as 1)Radiants still feel pain 2)that would be a waste of Stormlight and 3)it would slow them down. Remember Kaladins stunt in the Arena where he snapped his legs by dropping into a Shardbearers chest? Now imagine how much more successful that move would be with a set of Plate..... I don't think living plate actually does. It's the spheres needed to move dead plate that causes the trouble.

[OB] Parshendi/Listeners Based on Neanderthals
Nymeros replied to Nerd3.14159265358979's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think they were based on Neanderthals at all.... The similarities you mention seem superficial. -
This is a close 2nd for me.....that was my favorite scene in the book and it would be amazing to see that on the big screen. Stormlight would be super expensive to do properly.

The first assault on the Rift, specifically Dalinar being dropped into the city. If I could see any part of Stormlight on film that would be it.

I forgot that spren lose memories when making the jump. Some may just forget their names.

Exactly! He's made of black ink but calls himself Ivory. He refuses to be defined solely by his appearance or restricted by the beliefs of his people. Remember a Jasnahs talk with Dalinar about not letting himself be branded a heretic?

Partterns real name is a mathmatic equation or some such. Ivory chose his current name to give the finger. Lopens partner has a name as do most other honor spren.

[OB] How did Kaladin call those windspren on Notum's ship?
Nymeros replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Shardplate is related to Radiants' bonds to lesser sub spren. I think Kaladin was attracting wind spren because his bond was deepening as he drew closer to the fourth oath and his Plate. He also randomly drew them during the Thaylen city battle for no apparent reason.- 46 replies

This thread is so confusing. I feel like you dont know that many people OP and have a tiny reference pool.....
-
Lopen also lost a limb in addition to being made a slave. Whether your past is dark or traumatic or damaging is a matter of your perspective. If Lopen rolls with and is fine, its not really that dark.
-
Well, when i read Way of Kings, Dalinar surpassed Kelsier as my favorite character in the Cosmere, so......

I missed the part where the cause of the Recreance was new information for Nale...when did he indicate that he wasn't aware? Also, personally, I don't care what side he fights on as long as his plots are interesting. He hasn't done anything but serve as Szeths master so eh, what am i missing by him fighting for Odium? We're still going to get more SzethxNale and "aboshi" so I'm good.
-
You all are amazing!
-
When it comes to Lopen, the real question is "will he progress?" It's cool that he attracted a spren (why wouldnt he?) and all but if he cannot evolve as a a person he's not getting to the 5th oath.

Fitting Non-Brandon Characters into Radiant Orders
Nymeros replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
I forgot that I wanted to elaborate on these so here they are. Stannis and Davos....perfect! As is Dany and I love the idea of the Stark sisters being the same order but with different truths and applications for lightweaving. Personally, I would put Ned in the role of Bondsmith though. His position in the story and world along with the way people react to him just seem Bondsmithy to me. Even living legends like Barristan need emotional support from Ned, and Nes is for forgivness and unity. "The lone wolf dies but the pack survives." Plus Stormfather would love that Ned doesnt break his word and their interactions would be hilarious....Ned has far less tolerance for nonsense than Dalinar. -
We've known since book one that there were thousands of Knights Radiants back in the day so its hard for me to see them as snowflake chosen ones and frankly I'm not sure how you came to hold such a view with the information provided. Since the Radiant orders have been written as massive organizations it's hard for me to see them as anything but it desire them to be smallers.....really the only thing I take issue with is squires. I would rather they have access to stormlight at all times rather than access to all surges only when in the vicinity of their Radiant.
