  1. The Song of Secrets and why not? I'm sure the book will be heavy on Singer and Listener history and although the Song of Secrets is not a book, the Parsh are unlikely to have a written work that holds more importance given their culture of song and music. I wouldnt mind a surprise though. It would make for boring epigraphs for sure. Anything is better than Oathbringer though.....such a bland name to give such an epic book.
  2. We know Szeth is special just because of who he is and his extraordinary will. If no one else can reach the final Skybreaker oath Szeth will. Nale sees Szeths worthiness which is why he went through the trouble to save him and personally mentor him. It's why the Senior Skybreakers actually fight for the privilege of have Szeth as their squire. With that said, there are a couple of things to keep in mind: -Nale doesn't want to follow Odium and likely doesn't want Odium to win. Hence his not interfering with the Battle for Thaylen City even though he likely could have turned that match on its head. He also plans to continue guiding Szeth even though they are firmly on opposing sides. -Nale didn't force this change on any of the Skybreakers. He explained his logic and let the others make up their own mind just as he did with Szeth. Only those Skybreakers who swore their Oath to follow Nale would have no choice in the matter.
  3. I honestly dont remember Odiums forces killing Spren though I do recall them taking control of the Perpendicularity leading to Roshar to stop travel between realms. As for ANY Spren being surprised by Odium wanting to destroy them...yeah I'm sure the majority would be since Odium doesn't appear to have ever attempted such a thing in the past even to curb the birth of new Radiants.
  4. See, that's what's getting me. You're equating acting on emotion with being unintelligent and now also faulting Spark for not acting on information he has no way of knowing? Why? Even if they had "good" intentions, the Radiants consciously killed a massive portion of the Spren population and brought ruin to the Spren homeland. Odium...was not directly pestering humanity and had not for thousands of years. I'm sure that not all Ashspren act or think like Spark just as we have not yet seen seen any other group of True Spren where each individual acts and thinks the same way. Keep in mind, Spren are not human, and they dont age or judge time in the same way as humans. Syl was alive before the Recreance and is still a young girl. We cannot say that their blood shouldn't still be hot because of the length of time.
  5. I'm saying that on an individual level, it's perfectly normal to direct your anger towards a situation or person onto those that far are associated but not directly responsible. For a minor example, I'm very unlikely to be pleased with or pleasant towards the friends and family of someone who is my enemy. As far as I'm aware, the Recreance happened thousands of years after the Heralds betrayed humanity. Not really? The Recreance was a conscious intentioned betrayal by a sapient race that killed thousands and brought cultures and civilisations to ruin. Wars had been waged over lesser crimes. I dont think its comparable to "a wild dog attacked and killed my son." I also don't think that showing hatred towards a group for wrongs committed against you by members of the group is unnatural or a sign of unintelligence. Eh, there wouldn't have been a Desolation or Oathpact if Honor hadn't sided with the humans in there war with the Singers. Im sure that the Radiants were responsible for their own governance and actions at the time of the Recreance. Very well articulated. Take my upvote
  6. It's as Calderis indicated, Nale has no way of knowing that Cultivation is still willing to fight. I think Stormfather was referring to her when he mentioned that Odium losing a contest of champions would coax out other forces. However I never considered Nale breaking with Odium and joining her. Hmmmm
  7. People have to carry the burden of the sins of their parents all the time and Spren live for millenium. You feel like the Spren shouldve just waited a few days for the Radiant to die and then be back to besties with humanity? The Recreance happened well after the Desolations ended (like thousands of years after) and Odium didnt lead humanity to it. It had a massive impact on the spren leaving young spren with no guidance, societal structure or culture....not sure why you see it as something to shrug off. Even then, we have Spren who do want to still join humanity and oppose Odium, others who do not want to interfere, and another who has bonded a Singer instead. Different types of individuals react differently to situations.
  8. What is "the law of God?" I'll take that as my final answer. It makes too much sense. Cultivation isn't actively defending anything. She withdrew and mostly abandoned humanity after Honor died. In the battle of Shards, Odium won.
  9. I think all of the Radiants have to take themselves apart more and more in order to progress. Malaya doesn't seem particularly obedient so I'm assuming her paths until now focused on bravery? I do think Dustbringers have to eventually temper their own recklessness by trusting and following the advice of others. Odium didn't lead the Radiants to anything, it didn't happen 5000 years ago or close to it, and we are talking about thousands of spren being killed. Those spren were likely Spark's own friends and family. Not sure how it is illogical for him to want revenge.
  10. Nale had already decided to side with Odium and the Singers if it came to it. I'm not sure what madness lies in simply picking a side. Ishar is full of poop and a great actor.
  11. 65 isn't old enough to call Dalinar son in my opinion.
  12. Mark Hamil has an epic voice but he's so young! And I associate him (and his speaking voice) too much with Luke Skywalker so.
  13. Just saw Penny Dreadful. I want Timothy Dalton as my Dalinar!! David Tennan...not smooth enough for my Hoid.
  14. I'm really not sure why I would believe that Odium is just guessing when the author made it a point to have Shallan spreading that to intentionally throw people off. As a note, Odium is on another planet in the system I doubt he can witness as much as Honor could for example.
  15. Honestly Shardplate in my head looks closer to unpainted Ironman armor than anything else. Very futuristic. Doubt that will change any time soon.
  16. Dalinar thought Shards were made using lost technology and he was wondering why that tech was only used to make tools of war. He had no idea how shards were actually made and I don't think it's something more complicated.
  17. Nale's madness does manifest as telling random lies....I'm not going to just disbelieve everything that every Herald says. That's absurd.
  18. Yes.....I noticed. Nale should be the most effective combatant on the planet right now but you know, plot. Lift couldn't actually die, right? Naturally, Nale hasn't dual wielded, or used his surges in combat or summoned any amount of plate. Then again, I don't know that we've seen him stressed as of yet. @Child of Hodor I think you're thinking of dead plate. It's why Renarin has to remove his Plate gauntlets to heal when he is wearing his. Your own living Plate is fine as we saw in Dalinars visions.
  19. A quibble: it likely took more than a couple of Desolations for the Radiants to form. We needed time for the Heralds to form and fight, then time for spren to grasp and copy the Honorblades, then we have a period lasting for hundreds of years when rogue surgebinders caused trouble, and when they did form and fight it was during the period when humanity had less and less time to recover when they would be more sorely needed. People definitely agree with you. Its hard to see how Desolations were near extinction level events or how Herald consistently fell in battle......Im eager to see what forces Odium can bring to bear: Odiums "best fighters," voidbinding, the full force of the Unmade and whatever else he has hiding.
  20. Well I read Warbreaker, so no not really. I know Vivenna could hear Nightblood after being judged and passing so this wasn't particularly surprising.
  21. Huh...never thought about shards having sex. Am now though.
  22. Why wouldn't it function like any other Radiant death?
  23. Interesting. Thank you. Dalinar re-affirmed Moashs story so I have no need to doubt it but that's an interesting note.
  24. This isn't relevant but where was this mentioned? Can you provide a quote?
  25. Exactly. If the purpose of an arc is to have your characters experience and explore failure, saying "well he didnt succeed at all! why even have the plot if the character wasn't going to accomplish his goal?" isnt really a valid criticism. This is a series; of course his character development will be continuous for quite some time. I never expected Kaladin to speak all of his oaths, become the man he was meant to be, and stop progressing in book 3 out of 10. Way of Kings was about exploring leadership and Kaladin's arc in that book revolved around him taking responsibility for his fellows and stepping back into a leadership role. Words of Radiance was about Kaladin learning to let go of his prejudices and hatred. Oathbringer was about Kaladin, despite all his power and allies, failing to accomplish his objectives and learning to let himself be saved instead. His story isn't done and he is constantly developing but I would say those arcs were pretty much wrapped up. How do you define a character arc Vissy? Exactly. I agree. As we recently saw with the Last Jedi, lol.
