  1. OK guys I'm here. Tired, but here. First off, I'm reading slightly village on Rae's alignment questions. I'm reading slightly evil on Ecth's response, but he sent me a PM about that that's making me read less evil than I was before. Right now I'm not going to make a role-claim, and I'm not planning on claiming at all this game, because it would either reveal me to have a good role or narrow the field for who has the good roles.
  2. Sorry, but between a lack of knowledge about the topic and a lack of time to play both this and the QF at once, I'm going to have to take a spec doc link.
  3. Albert is in his fifies, with blonde hair graying slightly and blue-green eyes. He's 5'9" and weighs about 175 pounds. As Lighteyes go he's middle-dahn. Albert walked up to Brightness Aleta. She was shaking her head with a sligjt frown on her face, giving the idea that she was displeased with something. It wasn't hard for Albert to guess what it was. "Quite the crew we've got here, I have to say. I've seen worse, but not by much. Gives me the shivers: some of these that don't seem to belong are probably spies."
  4. Hmmm... yes, I'd say so. Read up on MR20 and see if you count Joe's moves as messing with the players.
  5. It has come to my attention that we had a GM error during turnover last night. Nothing too drastic, but in addition to Drake, Aonar is dead. More information to be posted once Ecth can edit the write-up and execute the will, because I'm on mobile and don't have access to everything anyway.
  6. @Fatling Ok, first off, the disclaimer: I'm not a computer science major or anything like that. I'm just a guy who likes tech. When it comes to choosing Linux vs Mac vs Windows for privacy, neither of them will protect you from applications keeping their own records of your activity. But as for OSs, Linux is your best bet. Both Mac and Windows are put out by corporations, so each collects user statistics so that they can tell what features are being used, etc. Because Linux is open source, there's no corporation storing your data in aggregate. If you're talking browsers, it depends on how hardcore you love security. If you're looking for a standard browser that's less info-gathery than the others, I'd recommend Firefox, because Chrome is run by Google, an info-gatherer. However, if you really want to go hardcore secure use Tor. Tor gets a bad rap as the browser used to access the dark web, but if you're looking for ultimate security there's a reason why those trying to hide from the law use Tor. Triple-encryption, packets bounced around the web, no browsing history, the works. It's slower than the other browsers, but exponentially more secure. So what a VPN does is it encrypts your packets between routers. There are a few uses for VPNs, but one of the biggest is keeping your ISP out of the loop. Internet Service Providers make a lot of money compiling and selling your internet habits, but if you use a VPN all they get is a worthless string of logs of you connecting to the VPN server. However, most good VPNs do have a cost associated with them. In short: if you're looking for a way to tighten your security a little bit, use Firefox and set up a VPN. This keeps Google, Microsoft, Apple, and your ISP mostly in the dark about your browsing habits, without too much change on your part. If you want to go a step above that, though, you're going to want to look into Tor, because I don't know enough about it to tell you if it will fit all of your needs.
  7. You know why Zucchini is the lowest rank, right?
  8. When a thread has more tags than it can display, it usually hides them under a pulldown that says "and XX more". The code for that phrase seems to have a bug.
  9. See PM. If both the prosecution and defense are in favor of it, the Head Juror (me) may declare a recess until the night cycle. The prosecution and the defense have reached an agreement. The court is declared in recess until night 4, where it will hear the following 4 charges: Murder against Skai's Remnant Libel against Ecthelion III Slander against Requiem (appeal by Mr. Tekiel) Simple Assault against Requiem (new charge)
  10. The courtroom was mostly silent; everyone waited with baited breath for the results to come in. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the courtroom door opened. "Ladies and Gentlemen, the voting results are in," Elenion said as he walked up to the stand, "The decisions of the jury will now be read to the court." Skai's Remnant was found Guilty of Assault with a Deadly Weapon against Mr. Red Facemask! He has been fined one essence mark, to be given to the plaintiff. Phil has been found Guilty of Impersonation of a Public Official! He has been sentenced to public service as a Silverlight errand boy for one year! Requiem (Drake Marshall) has been found Not Guilty of Slander against Mr. Red Facemask! This charge has been appealed by the prosecutor Mr. Tekiel. The charges of Murder against Skai's Remnant and Libel against Ecthelion III will be held today!
  11. The courtroom door opened, and Elenion walked in. "Sorry I'm late, I forgot about..." he said, much too loudly for the formal environment, then trailed off. Elenion quickly reversed time and determined what the ruckus was all about, then reverted to just before the present to erase the timeframe in which he had interrupted the trial. "If it is amenable to all members of this trial and to Your Honor, I propose an impartial method of deciding the trial. All potential jurors, selected from the spectator doc and the uninvolved living and dead players of this game, will receive a private personal message from me that Ecthelion cannot read. This will contain a link to a Jury Doc, where the jurors can debate the issues. Before turnover, each juror will submit their vote to me -- guilty or not guilty for each charge -- in the PM. The verdict will be decided by majority vote (yes, a departure from legal precedent) and the verdict, but not the number of votes from each, will be posted immediately following turnover." Edit: Currently I'm seeing 5 charges against 4 people (c/p from Jury Doc) Skai’s Remnant: Assault with a Deadly Weapon; Murder Phil: Impersonation of a Silverlight Official Requiem: Slander Ecthelion III: Libel Are these charges agreeable? (Jury Doc PMs will be sent out shortly. This is going to be fun.)
  12. My name's Albert Vospar. Merchant by day, revolutionary by night. I've worked in numerous revolutionary cells throughout Alethkar, but I can never stay in the same place too long because I'm beginning to become recognized on sight. I'm hoping that this Radiant training gives me a way to exit this revolutionary-ing business, because honestly I'm getting a little too old for that sort of thing. Notice: My activity may be a little lower than usual, but I won't go full inactive on you.
  13. @Elbereth AG2 was the game I had in mind when I mentioned games with unexpected distributions, and I just generalized that because I've only seen or heard about half of all SE games.
  14. Really, I was in a lose-lose-lose. Option 1: Mayor the Shardholders. This makes it no fun for anyone, because nobody has any Autonomy. Option 2: Help nobody. Auto and Hoid were about to have a war, and I was fairly sure each faction would have torn the other apart. Also, each would have demanded my protection power. Option 3: Pick a side. This ensured a quick game and no mayoring, but the downside was I had to choose who would win and lose. @AlvronYou're overestimating Auto, because I would have had to remain neutral in a fight, so no unshattering, vote manip, or infinite Lifeless on Auto. You would have had a few Lifeless and Odiation Nation. Edit: just saw Alv's edit. Sounds like a good idea; I was just making sure that it was known that I didn't coldly backstab Auto without reason. I honestly thought that was the best choice to make.
  15. I had done analysis on that and it wasn't feasible. The Auto win con was to be the last ones standing, and the Hoidites had the outnumber win con. Most of the Hoidites had Shards so the conversion would have failed on them (discounting mayoring by me, which was a no go) so team Auto would have had to kill them all except me for the Auto win con, but for the Hoidite win con I would then have had to outnumber the village without triggering an Auto win first. Really, the only workable no-mayoring solution would have been to kill all Hoidites except me, all Auto except me, and one inactive true villager for me to kill and then be last man standing. It also would have taken a million cycles. @Aonar Faileas Your plan assumes I would have gone full mayor and ordered Shard passes, which I was not going to do.
  16. While we're on the topic of Russian authors, what are everyone's thoughts on Crime and Punishment? I personally found it an excellent read, and ended up writing my AP English Literature final essay on it.
  17. @Yitzi2 What constitutes a teammate, though? In last shard game I ended up on two different teams (Autonomy and Hoid) that couldn't win together. Was I wrong to tell Team Hoid about the state of Team Autonomy and help Team Hoid (which was already in the lead) kill the last threats to them?
  18. I love the strategy aspect of the game, where you're confronted with a problem and then have to solve it. For that I like knowing as much about the game mechanics as possible, so hidden info games aren't usually as much fun as the standard games for me. Like Yitzi, I only enjoy games that are balanced: neither a guaranteed victory nor almost-certain defeat are fun to play out. I also enjoy the manipulation and deceit aspect, regardless of which side of the manipulation I end up on. (I still respect Aman from when he completely pocketed me in LG24) Here are a couple of things I've recently been thinking of that apply less to players and more to GMs: Something I haven't seen brought up in any discussion yet is action restrictions: I like games with no action limit, so you don't have to give up good actions just to use necessary actions. If you have a role and two items I think you should be able to use all three, not just one. Now we're getting into the really small preferences, but I think GMs should experiment more with non-standard role distributions. There are some notable examples of where GMs have broken the role distribution norms, but for the most part elim teams have been very predictable role-wise.
