Good point, Shard plate is basically powered armor, sort of like in e.g. the Fallout games. I wonder if we might see something like mecha at some point in the distant future.

I think high powered guns would quickly cause tactics to change. I mean, after a couple shard platers are sniped.... On the other hand, shoot a shard blade, reform it in your hand, then shoot it again. Seems like guns would get people thinking along those lines. Do we have any idea how far away Dalinar's shard blade was when he summoned it against Amaram?

Some form of breakage could just be the result of continuing to use an honor blade.
-
So why Renarin? And if it's location, then why aren't there KRs from some of the other factions?
-
As far as the basin not being united, there's noting like a common enemy to unite people (1984 anyone?). For that matter, greed (an entire new planet to pillage). With that said, how would Cultivation react? And Odium could see it as an invasion by Harmony, and I doubt he would sit back and watch that happen. Though he might not have time to respond....

Honor Spren Hiding and Cryptic Out In the Open?
Argel replied to Random Observations R Me's topic in Stormlight Archive
How about if everyone could see the Honor spren then would they believe someone is honorable because of said person's actions or because they saw the honor spren? By remaining hidden from most, the actions of their chosen ones are perceived on the merits. Seems to fit. -
Thanks for the quote!! Regarding Kaladin, I do not think it was false bravado. We already saw that when he "let go" in the shard dual with Adolin how well he did, and then again with Szeth at the end. To me, there was a definite sense that he was more in tune with the wind than most and that that was not something new. Probably part of the reason he beat the shard bearer in TWoK. It's also interesting that his father was a doctor -- that could be where some of that desire to protect came from. For me, I had this sense that a bunch of things clicked for Kaladin. Brandon's answer does make me wonder if we will see more KRs from some of the others highprinces and their entourages.

Do you have a link to that WoB? Because there are some obvious exceptions: Shallan was chose at a very young age. And it seems so was Kaladin (To Szeth: “No. The wind is mine. The sky is mine. They have been mine since childhood. You are the trespasser here. Not me.”). And what of Ym? And Lift? I wonder if it's more about the person's local sphere of influence? Or there are different sets of criteria at work. Or maybe desperation as the cataclysmic events get closer and closer?

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Argel replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted! You are crushed into a slimy, messy pulp as an 18 wheeler filled with candy jack-knifes then falls on you. Centuries later archeologists think you were a new flavor of starburst. I wish Donald Trump was not running for president. -
Hmm, what about "broken" as in a horse? No longer running wild, now caught ("trained").

Did Adonalsium Plan for the Post-Shattering Cosmere?
Argel replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Man, 20 years. I'm starting to understand the people concerned about whether they will still be with us by the time SA completes. The older we get the riskier it is to invest time in a new epic series. -
The more I think about it, I think philosophy of life, moral code, selfishness vs. selflessness likely played a big part too. Kelsier is portrayed as selfish, Vin as selfless, and Sazed was selfless, but certain events brought a darker aspect to him (I think there is a WoB on that). So likely those plus magical aptitude.

Did Adonalsium Plan for the Post-Shattering Cosmere?
Argel replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So you're an optimist.... -
Sazed as Harmony mentions that she was chosen by Preservation, so I always assumed it tied into that (either that she breathed in mists as a baby and that's why Preservation chose her or as a perk to being his chosen one). Edit: If she had a strong connection to R&P then couldn't she have become Harmony? Secret History spoiler End Edit.

Did Adonalsium Plan for the Post-Shattering Cosmere?
Argel replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Given that Hoid and Rayse used to be friends, some kind of betrayal involving Adonalisium could explain the rift that formed between them. Maybe Rayse played/tricked Hoid, or maybe Hoid gave Rase some info that could be used against Adonalisium, not expecting it to be? Though maybe the rift formed when Rayse started splintering shards? It certainly does seem like there was betrayal amongst the 16 (and whoever else were accomplices) from the beginning. -
I was taking for granted that that was the prevailing theory. It seems pretty obvious (edit: that it should be the prevailing theory) given what we're told in HoA: As for the adventures era, we know the mountains were worse than the climate change in SoScad since even the humans had to bundle up, which means it was colder than "only mildly cold weather". I'm not sure if that tells us anything though since the SoScads were able to drag out their eventual demise (before being saved) over a decade, which means they could survive the terrible cold more than minutes, probably more than hours, and maybe oven more than a day(?). I'm inclined to agree about 300 years not being enough time for evolution, but I wouldn't completely rule it out it either. Consider that the ones most susceptible to the cold likely died first, leaving the ones most able to adapt still alive. That means that the next generation would have cold adaptability traits from both parents, which could speed things along.

Based on the memory from the coin it seems perfectly clear that what those from the Elendel Basin would consider mildly cold was deadly cold to the southerners.

Speculation About Frost’s Role in the Shattering
Argel replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That seemed like an informal answer from Brandon. Does traveling from a planet to a moon (or vice versa) count as world hopping? What about using a space ship (vs. via a shard pool)? What about being flung somewhere because of the shattering? The shattering could have caused part of Yolen to break off, forming a moon or an asteroid belt. Also, could Frost be a cognitive shadow (that whole thing about now being essentially immortal)? If so, maybe the physical realm Yolen is in really rough shape but to so much the cognitive realm version?- 33 replies

Felt being a coincidence rings a bell for me too. Since searches are almost always case insensitive, tracking this down again will be really hard. I do not think I read about it recently though, so that would place it several months out, if not further. I'm actually thinking closer to when I read WoR, so sometime in summer/fall 2013.

Adonalsium always reminds me of Ceasar and his betrayal, so I'm hesitant to assume a lot of power (at least on the Adonalsium scale). For example, was the total power of the 16 combined equal to Adonalsium's power? Half of Adonalsium's?

theory [BoM SPOILERS] What K and N were looking for
Argel replied to Nashan’Elin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Interesting idea, which got me thinking -- maybe K&R were looking for the Kandra Worldhopper instead? -
One problem with it being a spike attempt is what about the other assassins? Are they all in on it? That's not the kind of thing you would want to chance revealing to other assassins. Also, how many people knew Jasnah had a power worth stealing consider how she went to great lengths to cover it up? There are a lot of factions that wanted her dead for other reasons, such as the Ghostbloods who contracted the hit out and the Sons of Honor. For that matter, is Jasnah mentioned in the Diagram? It could just be exactly what it appears to be. Post WoR Reading
