I made this magic system where if people burn this certain type of moss that grows on snow (I know that moss doesn't grow in cold climates, but this is special moss) it produces this special smoke. The smoke causes no discomfort when breathed in, and is absorbed by the person's skin. They feel a minor amount of discomfort as they are sent to a "world of smoke." They see the real world and can affect it a bit, but it takes lots of energy to do even a small action such as pick something up. They see another layer on top of the regular world, and the layer consists of currents of gray smoke that push them around. However, even if you are shoved hard by a current of smoke, your position in relationship to the regular world doesn't change. From within the world of smoke, you can do various things to affect the regular world that i'm not going to go into, partially because they are complicated, partially because they're not fully worked out yet. Anyways, I was reading my brother this one scene where Spider, one of my major characters, is sitting at a desk breathing smoke from moss which is in a bowl next to her, in a meditative trance, using the abilities she gains from the world of smoke to bend and warp metal in front of her to make a sword. He commented that this was very drug-like, so I changed it a bit. I'm still worried that the system in general is very druggy. I'm okay with it being a little druggy, kind of like the petals in Twelve Kings in Shakarai if you've read that, but not that much. Any suggestions? Also, any tips on my magic system in general? Thank you all!

For all those of you who program, you know the pain of getting an error message that makes no sense, or, worse, an error number that doesn't seem to translate to a particular issue when you look it up. I'm new to XCode, but I would just like to appreciate this new error message I got: 2018-06-25 14:08:36.485716-0700 WarApp[1023:46085] [LayoutConstraints] Unable to simultaneously satisfy constraints. Probably at least one of the constraints in the following list is one you don't want. Try this: (1) look at each constraint and try to figure out which you don't expect; (2) find the code that added the unwanted constraint or constraints and fix it. This error message is a storming work of art. I mean, the fact that they used the word "probably" shows that they are actually trying to use regular language. Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you all.

Dark One: TV Series, Graphic Novel, Book Series, and Podcast?
Farnsworth commented on WeiryWriter's article in Brandon and Book News
Is Dark One Cosmere? -
My personal theory was that he was killed by Aluminum. Also, while Brandon's writing is likely influenced by his religion, not much of it seems to be directly tied to religious concepts.

If you could lash anything what would you do
Farnsworth replied to Dragon Reborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would lash thousands of pounds of food, dirt, water, and seeds upwards when Mars was directly above the location I was in (accounting for planetary movement). Then I would get in a space suit and lash myself several thousand times to Mars and go afterwards! -
There is a prose version, which you could get on this site by posting on the “get white sand prose” thread. Actually though, I’m not sure it still is there so you could just PM Chaos and he could get it for you. The downside of this is that technically the prose is not cannon, however however having read the prose and the graphic novel, there aren’t any major lore differences as far as I can tell so you will be able to understand the workings of the cosmere as much as if you read the graphic novel. There are some plot changes (a gender switch for one character) but not that many. The upside, however, is that most people, myself included find the prose way better than the graphic novel. Hope this helps!

@Fatikis that’s a neat theory! The only question I have is if hoid’s master was such a good man, why would he try to take up Adonalsium’s power? Would that have been a good action at the time?
-
Maybe it’s his old master, the one he named himself after?
-
Or... (aluminum hat mode) he’s serving in the Beyond to take down the God Beyond as part of the Discard Deck!

If you use Soothing on little kids you could get them to take naps really easily.

Could Humans Manufacture a Reod?
Farnsworth replied to EmeraldMind's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
You could probably build another Elantris if you had lots of free labor, for that matter. -
If Heightenings aid health, and health is defined by Spiritual essence filtered through Cognitive essence, Heightenings might make Koloss more human. We know from Secret History that So wouldn’t the Heightenings make Koloss more human? Maybe not fully human since they are still spiked, but a bit more.

I think Frost can shapeshift. Is this cannon?

Hi! I'm going to UC Davis next year for undergrad, and I was wondering if any of you are students there and if there was a Sanderfan club there?

[OB] Crazy Herdazian Military
Farnsworth replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the Herdazian army was probably the Herdazian arm of Dalinar's whole "unite Roshar" thing. All the nations want to have a say in what's happening, and we haven't really heard of Herdaz working with Dalinar, so it could be that. It's still pretty odd though, and I could definitely be wrong. With the general, he is almost certainly a Radiant. That or a spren, but that's unlikely. -
This is putting it mildly. Some of the stuff that happened, especially with Perrin an Faile, made it pretty impossible to like any of the female characters in that series.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Farnsworth replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you get into a huge fight with your step uncle because he thinks that Oathbringer didn't move the plot forward at all. GRAAAA! He doesn't care about worldbuilding, just the characters. Drives me CRAZY! If you don't like worldbuilding you're reading the wrong author! And probably the wrong genre! -
Sanderson descriptions of book length: Novella: 300 pages Short book: 600 pages Medium book: 800 pages Long book: 1200 pages What's funny is that I'm not actually exaggerating. These are the approximate lengths of his books.

I also found a duplicate entry. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/139-general-signed-books-2017/#e4418 and https://wob.coppermind.net/events/134-general-signed-books-2016/#e8078 are the same, only the first one has an image and the second one doesn't.

You know the Easter eggs are deep when the author doesn’t even know about them!
