  1. /confused Nevermore is a verb now? I thought it was just something ravens said.
  2. Fun fact: birdwatchers often refer to themselves as "birders" and their hobby as "birding." So calling bird-murder "birder" or "burder" would be awfully confusing. XD Ba-dumm-TSS! I approve of this pun.
  3. Yabbadabbadoooooo!
  4. I would rather go for a month without reading any Sanderson stories. Would you rather live your whole life without Breath or be a darkeyed soldier in Sadeas's army?
  5. No problem! There are so many old and dying threads on this forum that it's easy to miss when there's already a topic for something you want to discuss.
  6. Granted. Your bane is that you never dream again. I wish to see a bald eagle tomorrow. (Going birdwatching.)
  7. Sunbird decides that this gathering of Knights Awkward needs a motivational battle tune, so she begins belting out, "Let's get down to business to defeat the Huns! Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons? You're the saddest bunch I ever met, but you can bet before we're through--Mister, I'll make a man out of you!"
  8. Still working on Order of the Stick. I just got through strips # 723 and 724 and just about passed out from laughing so hard.
  9. Today I ordered the latest John Cleaver book by Dan Wells, Over Your Dead Body, and Kill Shakespeare Vol 2 since none of my local libraries have a copy of it.
  10. The only heretics on the Shard are those who think Twilight is better than Brandon's books. ;P (And honestly, I don't think anybody here actually thinks that.) There's all types here! This is a very accepting and friendly corner of the Internet. (We even have threads about religion without flame wars happening. Can you believe it?) Anyway, welcome, and have a complimentary upvote!
  11. Welcome to the Shard! I'm excited to see your fanart. I think you'll find that this is a very friendly and happy corner of the Internet, and I look forward to talking about Brandon's books (and other stuff) with you! PS--if someone offers you a cookie, don't take it! It's actually a hemalurgic spike.
  12. Facebook, I don't need you to tell me that "It's been a while since you've updated your profile picture." If I wanted to change my profile picture, I would have done it without you reminding me.
  13. I heard about that girl and the crows! Isn't it awesome? There was a news story recently about a mother Canada goose in Cincinnati, Ohio, who sought out a police officer to help get her gosling untangled from a balloon string.
  14. Not so much a book-related meme, but more about the Shard itself:
  15. You can never go wrong with a grenade launcher. XD
  16. Most birds are actually smarter than people give them credit for. Crows, ravens, and magpies (which are related to each other) have been known to not only use tools, but make them. And many parrots not only remember large vocabularies of words but apparently understand what they mean too. Check out this video of a crow (raven?) sledding down a roof: . Buffy: Schadenfreude is one of my favorite German words. One of my other favorites is Schnurrbart. It means moustache.
  17. Although I agree that it would be neat to have something special to commemorate Mistborn's 10-year anniversary, I kind of doubt it will happen. Elantris was Brandon's first published book, and I have a feeling that had something to do with the special treatment it got. Plus I think we probably would have heard something from Brandon if he was planning something.
  18. You mean people don't complain about his long turnaround time as it is?
  19. I believe that is the purpose of the Theme Song thread.
  20. Hey, I'm not from the South and I use "y'all" sometimes, so it's not just your location. And if you do pick up the accent, no loss--I think Southern accents are quite pleasant to listen to!
  21. Just don't do what I did, which was to read Words of Radiance (Stormlight #2) before Warbreaker, or the epilogue will not have the impact that it should. Also, if you want to avoid spoilers, I would advise you to stay out of the Stormlight subforum of the site completely until you've finished both thus-far-released books.
  22. You are unafraid to share your opinion on potentially controversial topics, and you always do it thoughtfully, eloquently, and with respect.
