  1. Heh. Dreams are too weird to want to actually live one. CS Lewis nailed it with that scene in Voyage of the Dawn Treader where the ship encounters a place where "dreams come true." Srsly creepy.
  2. Ok, I think I just found another one in my new edition of Evil Librarians. In the Author's Foreword, 2nd paragraph (not counting "I am not a good person"), we find this sentence: Now, Dan Wells has a book (ebook only at this point) titled A Night of Blacker Darkness: Being the Memoir of Frederick Whithers as Edited by Cecil G Bagsworth III. Given that Dan and Brandon are Writing Excuses buddies...
  3. Cool, it knows my name now! And it probably will forever, since I only ever use my laptop to get on the Shard and I have no interest in making it forget.
  4. The Nightwatcher declines to give you a Bane, since your requested Boon is something you clearly already possess. I wish being an Amazon Prime member allowed me to watch ALL TV shows free on Amazon, not just their original shows.
  5. A few days ago I picked up a Kindle book called Flash by Alex Hoagland after a girl I know from meeting her while she was dating my brother posted on Facebook that her own brother had written and self-published a book. (I know that's not really relevant, but I was amused by relating the convoluted trail of relationships that led to me reading this book.) I'm 56% done and it is reminding me a lot of the movie The Adjustment Bureau. Also finally got around to starting the final book in Tyler Whitesides's Janitors series. I'm maybe a quarter the way through that one.
  6. Judging by the title alone, I'm guessing it's at least somewhat NSFW?
  7. Ok. Yeah, that makes sense since Florida is the Sunshine State. I want to visit New Orleans one day. My parents have been there, but they went when I was too young to come along without putting a serious damper on their fun. They say there are lots of amazing restaurants.
  8. I forget--is the Bayou State Louisiana or Florida?
  9. Ugh. Been there a million times. And as for people chewing like cows... I'm not even exaggerating. Also, I went and saw X-Men: Apocalypse in the theater today, and there was this guy down on one of the more front-ish rows who decided it was a good idea to take out his smartphone in the middle of the movie and blind everyone behind him with his 100-kilowatt glowing screen in the dark theater. I felt like getting a 1-watt laser pointer and shining it in his eyes.
  10. Awesome! I can't wait to meet some more Sharders in person! I will not be cosplaying for this event (too storming hot to wear the black coat for my Prof outfit), but I'll wear my Bands of Mourning T-shirt and Stormlight pin.
  11. Yours was also highly entertaining! I Googled the song and was pleased as punch to discover that the guy who wrote it is also the guy who wrote "Still Alive" from the Portal end credits. Love that song! (Weird fact, though: the first time I ever heard it was while playing Rock Band 2; it's one of the downloadable songs.)
  12. Immediately made me think of Julian Smith's song , which I listen to regularly on my headphones and have a very hard time resisting the urge to belt it out when I'm in public. I'm 21 and like several of Depeche Mode's songs. Have I restored your faith in humanity? XD I love Wesley! He starts out pompous, pretentious, and annoying, but he undergoes significant character growth as the show goes on. But he never stops being funny.
  13. Well, Orlion, can I just say that you seem much more amiable towards Mormons than most people who used to be Mormon and aren't anymore? It's not my business to ask why that particular change came about in your life, but I'm just glad that we can all be friends here.
  14. 'Cause mosquitoes suck blood? Yup, I used those at marching band camp once. I just have a hard time finding them to actually buy them.
  15. I know how you feel! I abhor the feeling of bug repellent on my skin (who wants to rub poison on their arms/legs/face??), so I usually just go without unless there's significant danger of ticks. As a result, if I go outdoors a lot in the summer, my legs get lots of mosquito bites and become an absolute itch-fest. Have you tried putting anything on the bites? I have found that Cortisone cream sometimes helps.
  16. Well, the only events currently on Brandon's Upcoming Events page are an event at the Orem B&N this coming Saturday, June 11, and DragonCon in Atlantia, Georgia, on September 2. DragonCon is happening 4 days before the official release date of Alcatraz 5, so if you live nearby I suppose they might be selling early copies of the book at the con. As for the Utah event... White Sand's official release date, according to GoodReads, is June 21, which is 10 days after the Orem signing. So I think it unlikely that White Sand will be available then, but it's not impossible. If Brandon does any other signings this summer, we will probably get announcements about them closer to the day of.
  17. I definitely second the Reckoners recommendation. They're the only Sanderson I've been able to get my mom to read so far. As Morzathoth said, the Dresden Files are also pretty awesome, especially the later books--the most recent one, Skin Game, is by far my favorite. And I can vouch for the epicness of the Codex Alera. I think in terms of overall consistent quality, they are even better than the Dresden Files. Also by Jim Butcher: The Aeronaut's Windlass, the first in a new steampunk/fantasy series. I would say this is my favorite thing by Jim Butcher yet. Rachel Aaron is an excellent author. If you're in the mood for epic fantasy, try her Legend of Eli Monpress series; the first book (out of five; this series is all finished) is The Spirit Thief. Or if you feel like you'd rather read something more urban fantasy/dystopian, there's Nice Dragons Finish Last. It's the first book of a planned five-book series. Book two is already out, and book three should be released later this summer.
  18. I'd rather have the Alethi be mad at me than the Parshendi. I think I would have a better chance of surviving the Alethi's wrath long enough to explain that I was innocent than if the Parshendi were after me. Would you rather have Wax's or Wayne's Twinborn abilities?
  19. There are certain Christmas songs (and some entire albums, really) that I listen to year-round. Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Carol of the Bells" and "Wizards in Winter" and Mike Tompkins's are among them.
