Mid-Range Game 25: Lowborn Intrigue
DrakeMarshall replied to TheMightyLopen's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well. That was an unusual game. I've always wanted to make it as an elim. Guess fourth times a charm? Lord knows I made some mistakes in this game though (my biggest one was diverging from the original plan, and deciding to poison Randuir last second... my second biggest was probably using the unremarkable vote against myself on the day of the bridge run, and nearly getting myself killed). Still a good run. I hope I kept the spec doc entertained, in the least. The moral of the story, I think, is... Never be a dead goose in a bush!!!! Paranoia is your friend. In any case: Congratulations to @TheMightyLopen and @Steeldancer for putting on a very well run game. Congratulations to @randuir for sustaining the activity of the game so long. That sort of thing is extremely valuable. Congratulations to @BrightnessRadiant for, at one point, correctly guessing the entire elim team. if it weren't for an unexpected twist, you would have carried the village to victory a long time ago. Congratulations to @StrikerEZ for coming the closest to killing me. And, finally, apologies to my teammates. I'm generally not a fan of bussing that hard, and I still have doubts about the course of action I took. I had two plans drawn up: one for an efficient fulfillment of my win con, and one to kill off everybody. Throughout the game, I was pretty conflicted about it, and in the end, I just flipped a coin. I hope you will forgive me somewhat, because your sacrifice did ensure your victory, but still... It would have been difficult to anticipate what I was doing before it was too late, and so I am sorry. Also, I was gonna put this RP up like a minute before last cycle ended... Except then I had Fall Formal tonight, so... Better late then never, right? Pashul sat alone in the barracks of bridge 11. He glanced around briefly to ensure that there were no observers. There were none, of coarse; the barracks were effectively deserted. Satisfied, he set his pack on the barracks' solitary table, searching for a jar of ink among vials of poison. After a few seconds, he produced a small scrap of paper, pen, and inkwell, and laid them out across the face of the table. He dipped the pen in the ink, and began: Greetings to the most honorable Brightness Ialai, I report to inform you that your assigned task has been completed. I have made sure to do a very thorough job of it. Bridge 11 has been dismantled, and a series of unfortunate accidents have killed off all of Vendel's other spies. It is my hope that my work was performed acceptably well. In the least, I hope I will no longer be assigned to the bridge crews, as I seem to have destroyed this particular one. But I will, as always, defer to your wisdom on this matter. Agent 404, signing off. Pashul rapped his pen on the edge of the inkwell twice, stowed his writing equipment, and folded up the note. It would not do to leave his writing supplies in plain sight. Literacy was uncommon among men in these parts, but he wasn't about to make his report in glyphs. Finished, Pashul stood and walked out of the bridgecrew barracks, not looking back.- 433 replies

I’m sorry; I was confused about something, second guessing myself, and generally rather making a fool of myself. HH was actually somewhat active in PM communication with me the other night, and gave me a somewhat compelling case against Arin. I’ve been flip-flopping my opinion since then. But, now that I think about it, I believe my original conclusions were correct. I’m 96% certain that HH is indeed an elim. HH, if I’m wrong about this I am deeply sorry. But... I am more sure about this than I have been for the last few lynches. Sorry to have responded so late in the cycle... I expected to be back sooner.- 433 replies

Hmmmm so... Sorry I didn't show up earlier, but. While Arinian is a legitimate suspect, I am actually a little more suspicious of HH. The inactivity filter just hit Shqueeves... Why didn't it hit HH? I would be willing to bet that he was active in the elim doc. In any case, I think we should agree on somebody. I am prepared to switch my vote if the end of the cycle draws near and there is nobody leading in the lynch. Until then, -Drake- 433 replies

It is quiet, yes... The numbers are dwindling... I suspect this one is going to be close. I sort of thought lynching Darkness would have put us ahead. I'd be down for some RP but I need to remember what I was doing with my character first.- 433 replies

Well. It looks like our assassin is doing some good work. That's two elims down... Personally I'd guess 3-4 total, so we should have some breathing room. Not gonna lie to you, I was also wondering about Darkness. His tunneling on Straw confuses me. Straw has been one of my stronger village reads since he swapped the vote on Joe day 1. I know it's not really very much to go off of... But I'd say of the active players, Darkness is definitely the one I most suspect. Also, his remark about "you can lynch me, but I'll be watching to see who tries it" kind of gives me a bad vibe. It kind of feels like a threat to people who suspect him. If I had to guess, I'd say that Darkness is the only remaining active elim, and that 1 of the 3 less active players (Sami, Shqueeves, and HH) is also an elim. I wholly agree with Randuir that we need to look closely at those 3. Hmmm that aside I realize I haven't done RP recently. I should do that today, I think. Anyways, back later.- 433 replies

Greetings, all. Y'know, I may not be up to my usual standards, but I'm not really inactive, per se. I've made an effort to make at least one game relevant post every day cycle. I know my contribution isn't too great, but I would not call it inactivity either. If you want to hear more from me though, you could consider PMing me once night comes around. So far I've responded to everybody who has PMed me. Why do I think Lemon died? I'm pretty sure you covered all the bases on that matter, to be honest. If I had to guess why they aren't targeting very active people (and by that I pretty much mean you, Rand... I commend you for encouraging discussion)... I'd say one of two reasons are most likely: 1. The elims don't want Rand to die because they want the game to stay active. 2. The elims don't want Rand to die because Rand is an elim. In my opinion you haven't done much alignment indicative yet, so I wouldn't say that one of those possibilities was more likely than the other. If Rand is village, I'd rather not want him dead. But that isn't certain, either. I'll also take this opportunity to give reads on everybody: Darkness- I am confused about the way they are pursuing Straw. It almost makes me wonder if there is an executioner-type secret role in play. Randuir- I still have a neutral read on Rand, which worries me. Still, he's given loads for us to anlalyze, so coming to a more concrete conclusion should only take some time... Straw- I have a strong village read on Straw. I think it's extremely unlikely that an elim would have switched votes like Straw did on the first day. Brightness Radiant- I am starting to get a village read on BR as well, mostly through PM interaction. Hemalurgic Headshot- Not very active. No read.Sami- Not very active. No read. Randuir is voting on Sami. I suppose it is fair to guess that one of the eliminators are inactive/lurking, though I find it a little odd that conversation would be steered towards lynching somebody who would generate virtually no information.Drake Marshall- That would be me. You can analyze me yourselves Arinian- Has accused Rand. In some way, this makes me think he is village. Because I'm guessing that the elim team, for one reason or another, doesn't want to kill Rand.Megasif- Still have a bad gut read on...Shqueeves- Not very active. No read. Hmmmmm... Let me sift through my thoughts a bit longer, and I'll try to cast a vote soon, with additional reasoning.- 433 replies

Hmmmm... I need to think about things. Striker threw me off a bit. Apologies if I don't share a ton of analysis right now. I will hopefully make up for it soon though... I have absolutely zero read on Manukos. Not my first choice, but the lynch seems to be cemented already so I suppose I'll let that stand.- 433 replies

Okay, I'll just explain my thinking here. The unremarkable vote has periodically been cast on somebody who was never accused out in the open. Why would the unremarkable vote repeatedly be cast where there was no real intent to openly accuse, lynch, or claim responsibility for it? I can't really understand why a villager would want that. A villager wouldn't secretly cast a vote to lynch somebody, and then refuse to accuse them in public. That would be kind of useless. That kind of behavior makes more sense for an eliminator, I think. So... After applying a small quantity of tinfoil, I can guess that the eliminators might have two unremarkable people, and thus are controlling the unremarkable vote. And that is why I suspect that the eliminator team was responsible for the unremarkable vote I recieved.- 433 replies

DrakeMarshall replied to TheMightyLopen's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hmmm... So I've posted some analysis. Now, I must decide who to vote for. The choices that come to mind are Lemon, Megasif, and Striker. Why would I vote for Lemon? The only solid reason I can think of is that it would put another person on the bridge, and thus increase my odds of survival. After some consideration, I don't personally find Lemon altogether very suspicious. Yes, that's mostly gut read. If I have time I will expand upon it more articulately. In any case, I'm not going to vote on them. Why would I vote for Megasif? Well, pretty much because that one post last cycle gave me a bad vibe. Honestly, I don't feel like I have enough information on this count. I need to do more analysis. Thus, my voting for Megasif will be suspended for the time being, until I can adequately compose my thoughts on the matter. Why would I vote for Striker? Well, there's the way he voted on the first cycle. I know that a villager might conceivably vote that way... But I would also be astounded if there was no attempt to save Joe from the lynch on the first day, because it kinda sucks to lose a team mate that early. Secondly, I hold that his past votes could often be explained as self-preservation (this cycle's vote included...). I understand that self-preservation is legitimate for a villager. But an eliminator is unique in that they prioritize self-preservation above catching the elims. Striker is definitely my most solid read. I apologize if I'm wrong about this... But I am also almost certain that I am not. As Striker himself has said, I have not been as active as I would normally wish to be. As such, I would be happy to die if, in the act of it, I could take down a second eliminator. Striker. I would request that we be careful about voting up too many people at once. As much as I'd rather not be lynched... The more people we vote up, the less likely the lynch is to actually succeed in killing who we want.- 433 replies

DrakeMarshall replied to TheMightyLopen's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thank you, my friend. I realize I haven't weighed in this cycle, yet. The activity level in this game is rather low, yes. So. Let's analyze some things! Analyzing day 3, to be specific. Post 1. Darkness expresses distate for Roadwalker and Walin's play. I for one strongly suspect that there were secret game mechanics in play, as I said previously. Darkness then proceeds to vote on Straw, citing earlier suspicions. Post 2. Randuir posts reads. For some reason he neglects to give a read on me In any case he mostly accuses Lemon. By his own admission, there's tin foil in that theory. I am a little skeptical of it. Still, it's not a completely crazy theory. Post 3. Arinian votes on Roadwalker. Given the insanity of elim claims, I guess it's hard to fault this. Post 4. Jondesu follows suit. Alignment of Jondesu is known so no need to expand on this. Post 5. Road votes on himself. I am confused by the suicidal elim claims. Post 6. Megasif weighs in briefly. Says they "don't have many suspicions at the moment." Honestly I think that's a little questionable. Surely there are some basic reads that could be shared. I feel like this could be an attempt at staying under the radar. Post 7. This is one of my posts. Y'alls can analyze it for yourself Post 8. Randuir gives a vote tally. Explains that he isn't switching to Road. His explanation confuses me. Post 9. Darkness gets around to explaining his suspicions of Straw. I'm glad he explained himself. I still don't agree, because I think it would have been very poor form for Straw to have voted on Joe that early if they were team mates. But I'm still glad Darkness gave an explanation. Post 10. Brightness checks in. Is not following super closely. Don't really have a read on her. ...and that's the cycle, just about. And also: Well. I'm not sure I really know how to respond to this. Perhaps you would explain your reasoning for this? It seems mostly to be cast out of self defense. While you don't really bring it up, I am inclined to conclude that you chose to vote on me because I already had an unremarkable vote, and thus you can put me on a bridge with you. I will, by the way, note that I have certain reasons to at least suspect that the unremarkable vote(s) in question were cast by the eliminator team. You also cite me being slightly inactive. I'm not sure I follow. I may not be keeping up to my normal standard of activity, but I don't think I've incurred a contribution crusade either. Also, I would like to raise the objection that this isn't a poke vote, as per my previous definition of the term poke vote. This isn't really related though.- 433 replies

Okay I gotta go in a but and I'll be back for real soon, but a quick though: Is there something going in with these elim claims? I struggle to believe that people are just doing this randomly. I can only draw two conclusions that make any kind if sense: 1- Roadwalker actually is an elim and is trying to play off of the fact that Walin claimed elim as a villager. If this is the case, I suspect that it really isn't working. 2- More likely in my opinion. I predict that there is some sort of secret role or game mechanic in play here that is causing people to behave in this way. I suppose suicidal bridgemen makes some sense, thematically. This explanation still creates many more questions than it answers. This game confuses me.- 433 replies

Hmmm... I think it has come time to do some analysis. 1. Darkness (Nuatoma Akihiko)- Is analyzing Joe's reads in the hopes of learning something. Frankly, I don't think that this is a productive pursuit, but I don't think it's a suspicious one either. Neutral read. 2. Randuir (Tenodin)- I want to be careful before I form a read on Rand, heh. I do remember one comment Rand made D1 that made me lean village though. 3. Straw (An Explosive Gerbil)- Voted on darkness, has made some unusual comments. Not sure what to make of this. Somebody else please confirm if the weird vibe I am getting is legitimate? One other thing I notice that Straw voted shortly after Joe did. That would have been a pretty audacious move as an elim. 4. Brightness Radiant (undecided)- Neutral read as ever, hasn't said much. 5. Hemalurgic Headshot (Kurt Barnacles)- Also neutral, also hasn't said much. 6. Jondesu (Div)- Almost certainly a villager. Need I elaborate? 7. Sami (Reddathan)- Hasn't said much, I don't think. 8. Roadwalker (Silver Feather)- 9. Drake Marshall (Pashul) 10. Lemonelon (Ellenie) 11. StrikerEZ (Ardenal)- Leaning elim. Casts a bandwagon-y vote on Jondesu that looked to me like it could have been supporting Joe. Retained the vote, bringing Joe closer to escaping. Is now approving the Walin lynch in a similar manner. 12. Walin (Nerkel)- On one hand, the evidence surrounding him looks pretty bad, imo. He made comments about "D1 lynches being ineffective" right as Joe was taking the lead, which could easily have been an attempt to discourage the Joe lynch without appearing to do so. On the other hand, I tend to be suspicious of bandwagons. If Joe is any indicator, this eliminator team is okay with trying to steer the lynch. 13. Arinian (blank)- Undecided, isn't saying much. 14. Sart (Mortago)- Undecided, isn't saying much. 15. Megasif (Kohl)- Undecided, isn't saying much. 16. OrlokTsubodai (Locke Tekiel)- Undecided, isn't saying much. 17. Manukos (manukosokunam)- Undecided, isn't saying much. 18. Eternum (Deral)- Undecided, isn't saying much. 19. Shqueeves (Melb)- Undecided, isn't saying much. A lot of people aren't participating very much. I am worried by this, because we won't easily be able to find eliminators in that crowd of untalkative people. Of the active people, I would guess that either Walin or Striker is an eliminator. The evidence against Walin is such that I won't really protest against lynching him, but I would appreciate if @StrikerEZ would explain their rationale on day 1. I would also greatly appreciate if some of our less vocal players would at least put some reads out there. @everyone On a totally unrelated note (warning, high salinity detected ahead): Aaaaaaaand finally don't you think it's about that time when I do RP? Pashul sat in the back of the tavern as Div began to choke. Poison again? This bridge crew really was going to braize. And we haven't even done a bridge run yet... Pashul was new to bridge 404, but he had heard stories... He had seen the looks in the others' eyes. They were broken. Most of them barely seemed to care whether they lived or died. The crew's total apathy pressed down on him. Pashul struggled not to give into it, reminding himself that if he lived through this long enough, he might get out of this damned bridge crew. Pashul noticed that Div seemed to be recovering. He forced a smile. Bridgemen were tough, if nothing else. Maybe, just maybe, they'd pull through after all.- 433 replies

G'day people. Well huh. I don't think I've ever helped catch out an elim on the first day. Not half bad. Statistically, a successful D1 lynch dramatically increases our odds of catching more elims. I should probably, like, do an analysis of last cycle soon. And start my RP For now, I gotta run though. Back soon.- 433 replies

Sigh I want more time to think... W/e I'm gonna just type my thoughts up on my phone. The last time I second guessed myself I regreted it. So. Some random things: Rand- just being Rand, I don't feel I have a read. He made his customary analysis of roles. Straw- made a kinda wierd comment... But I'm in the same place as BR where I've been wrong about them too many times. Also Straw swapped votes, but I'm not sure what that means yet. Jondesu... idk. The bandwagon on him was kind of alarming. I don't know what he said in PM though. Could be lynchworthy, but idk. Joe... His accusation seems sort of wierd given how quickly he backed off it. Hmmmm I kinda agree with Rand that Striker's vote seemed the most bandwagon-y. So... What to do now? I'm thinking I'd either lynch Striker or Joe. I'm gonn go with... Joe for now. I'll check back at some point before the end of the cycle, but for now, peace out folks. When I'm back at a computer maybe I can start up some proper RP.- 433 replies

I sort of read that as "some of the roles listed might not actually appear in-game" but I suppose your interpretation works as well. EDIT: Wait actually, Straw said "No one in the spy team has a role we know of." That's a much more specific statement than "secret roles exist." I'm not sure I follow.- 433 replies

We are the bridge that nobody could seem to find... In any case, it strikes me that not much be happening, but this gives me a most wonderful opportunity to create an adequate character. Hmmm so what did Pashul do to get landed in this sorry braizehole of a bridge? Lets say he's a thief. One of Sadeas' captains used to leave spheres out every few storms to be infused, and they would get stolen every single time. The captain even tried posting a guard, to no avail. Probably 'cause Pashul was the one assigned to guard them. Eventually he slipped up though, and now he is part of the second most deadly bridge crew in the camp (the first place, obviously, being bridge 4). Trust me though, the captain in question was a real cremhole. He totally deserved it. Lets say Pashul has been in the bridge crews for... Just a couple days. He hasn't done a bridge run yet. He has no storming clue what he's gotten himself into. Don't suppose anybody would like to show him the metaphorical ropes?- 433 replies
