  1. Also, I’ve changed my mind. Sart Darkness
  2. I believe my point was that the current single-minded focus on catching eliminators is, in fact, a distraction, and that we need to focus on a threat that is currently being ignored.
  3. I am going to tentatively suggest that Sart might be our mistborn.
  4. I think either Araris or Drought is likely to be an elim. I doubt both are. I think there has to be one other elim out there, and I think that elim is probably inactive/lurking. If Araris were guilty, I would then probably look closer at Aspen. If Drought were guilty, I would then probably look closer at ShaneysRus. Both Araris and Drought seem plausible. However. There's something we're not considering. The unstable mistborn. What if we got this lynch right? I figure there'd probably be only one elim left as the night cycle started. The unstable mistborn would pretty much get a clear shot at ending the game, and unless we have a lurcher 2 that is both active and capable of outguessing the mistborn, this would be out of our control. Personally, I'd rather avoid that risk. I predict that the unstable mistborn, if they are active, should be able to finish the eliminator team in about... 3 nights, about? Also keep in mind that the unstable mistborn has vote manipulation powers and takes two cycles to lynch properly. If we, as the village, focus mainly on the elims, we will be playing into the unstable mistborn's hand. This game is meant to be a triangle. The unstable mistborn kills elims. The elims kill village. The village kills the unstable mistborn. If we focus instead on the elims, it will go poorly for us. I propose we turn up the pressure on the unstable mistborn, and direct our efforts to lynching them, instead of an eliminator. To the unstable mistborn: I offer you a challenge. I believe the current information is sufficient to give you a fighting chance. You will race to kill off the eliminators, while we will race to kill off you. I'd recommend starting with Araris or Drought, but I leave that up to you (if either Araris or Drought is in fact the unstable mistborn, that would be quite entertaining). With that, I believe it is in order to remove my vote from Araris, although I still believe there is a fair chance that they are one of the elims. ...and now this is the difficult part. Finding the unstable mistborn will be rather difficult, because they, like a normal villager, want to kill elims. I think perhaps our best bet is to look at people trying to draw discussion away from the unstable mistborn, but seeing as before now I've kind of been ignoring this role it's hard to fault others for doing so. If nobody objects, I will voice my support for the extension. Such an extension would be appreciated.
  5. Hmmm this post reads differently to me than the prior ones I need to think for a bit about this.
  6. That is a little concerning. In fairness, holidays might play into that. I figure we can hope many of those folks will be back soon. Still... I kind of wish we had a stronger inactivity filter in this game. Believe it or not, but I was waiting for you to do this. Actually, I suspect that if you hadn't been caught up in self-defense, you would have done it immediately after I accused you. Regardless, this doesn't really change my read of the situation. If I am wrong about you, I will accept the consequences, though I will note that this risks creating a chain of lynches, which is the very thing you've accused me of doing. Incidentally, I don't recall ever distancing myself from the Asterion lynch. I openly accept responsibility for making a bad decision. Though I won't be too hard on myself, because I had so little information to base my decision off of.
  7. @Seonid, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he was referring more specifically to D1 lynches. From a meta perspective, I don't see any problem with lynching Araris or Drought this cycle. His point was that D1 lynches tend not to be informed or useful in the first place. At the beginning of the game, killing an active player gives barely more information than killing an inactive player, but the long-term cost to game discussion is non-trivial.
  8. I think I have an idea. It's kind of a crazy one. It might even be a terrible one. But hey, here it is: QF: Alpha Complex Introduction Welcome, Citizen, to Alpha Complex!! It is the dawn of year 214 of the Computer, and Alpha Complex is threatened by traitors! Friend computer wants YOU to help fight the commie-mutant-traitor threat! Sign up today for your first mission! The Computer is making a 1 TIME OFFER to promote the first 10 volunteers to RED clearance! The nature of your first mission is above your current security clearance, until you accept said mission. Furthermore, the existence of this mission is above your current security clearance, thus, failure to enlist for this mission would be treasonous. Rules and Regulations 1. Knowledge of certain rules is treason. 2. This mission requires 10 participants. Any fewer and the mission will not run. No more than 10 participants will be accepted on this mission. 3. You are a troubleshooter. Your job is to find trouble, and shoot it. 4. Traitors, mutants, communists, improper paperwork, and [REDACTED] are all trouble. The Computer said so, and the Computer is your friend. 5. Friend computer has generously decided to supply each participant with 3* complimentary clones. 6. Cycles last 24 hours, unless the Computer says they do not. 7. Participants may covertly perform 2 actions every cycle. The following exceptions apply: [THIS INFORMATION IS YELLOW CLEARANCE AND ABOVE]. Please take this time to remember that the Computer is your friend, and hiding things from the Computer may constitute grounds for fining, probation, and/or summary execution. 8. Roleplay may influence the mission. Attempts to unduly leverage this fact are treasonous, and citizens found to be engaging in such activity will summarily be executed. 9. Inactivity is treasonous, and dereliction of duty will be met with summary execution. 10. You have been granted clearance for PMs, even group PMs. Friend Computer would like to take this time to remind you to avoid using this privilege for the purposes of traitorous collusion. 11. You are of RED clearance. Wear red at all times. Do not enter areas above RED or INFRARED clearance. For your safety, please obey citizens above RED clearance. 12. Upon completion of the mission, citizens will be appropriately debriefed. [CENSORED AT YOUR SECURITY CLEARANCE] 17. In the highly unlikely scenario that a troubleshooter finds themselves in mortal danger while on a mission, DON'T PANIC**. [CENSORED AT YOUR SECURITY CLEARANCE] 213. I've never played Paranoia, and I have no storming idea what I'm doing. This information is above your clearance level. Knowledge that this information is above your clearance is also above your clearance level. 214. Fun is Mandatory. *Some of you may have heard rumors that troubleshooters are customarily given 5 clones, and that the Computer is in error to generously grant you 3 clones. Such rumors are obviously the work of the Commies, and should be reported. Any allegations that the Friend Computer may be in error are treasonous. **Unless ordered to do so by a citizen of higher clearance, or the Computer. So... If it wasn't already clear, this game is not meant to be a serious, competitive game. Indeed, it's nearly the opposite of serious and competitive. It would be fastpaced and chaotic (it is, after all, inspired by Paranoia). The bar would be low for concentrated analysis. The sole objective would be fun (see rule#214). It is probable that I am not equipped to design all of this. If the idea were approved I would want to partner with somebody to figure this out. It is my hope that this might be a novel way to address some of the matters recently discussed in the meta thread. Thoughts?
  9. Okay... Hm. I think this might be a policy I could get behind.
  10. For what it's worth, I pretty much agree that either yourself or Drought is an eliminator. If you are innocent, Drought would be my next choice (provided our resident unstable mistborn doesn't do the job for us). That said, I reached my decision between the two of you already. Well, I bet Ornstein knew it too... Also, if this lynch happens to be successful, we will need to make catching the unstable mistborn our priority. I'd even recommend Lurcher 2 protect suspected eliminators at that point.
  11. Holy storms. We just had our PM abilities decimated. On one hand, that’s hilarious; on the other, I’d kind of like to send PMs. I’ll start the day early by saying Araris. Of the people who voted on Asterion, I find this the most probable.
  12. In case I die ( though, granted, I’m guessing I’m not at the top of the hit list right now): Let it be recorded that I believe Araris is an infiltrator. Jay walked through the streets, still quietly whistling an unfamiliar tune. It was fully dark by now, and the mists were particularly thick. The tendrils of his ill-gotten mistcloak swirled dramatically around him, dancing as if they had a life of their own (and, in a manner of speaking, they did). He’d been hearing stories of folks being murdered on the streets in the last few days. Probably that was what had everybody so distracted and on edge. Jay wasn’t the type to worry about distant possibilities, but still. He murmered a quick prayer to the iridescent tones. Just in case. There. Actions have been finalized, and peace with the gods has been maintained.
  13. Back. Right, there's a lot to talk about here. D1 went pretty well. Some reads: Seonid, Straw, and Steeldancer are almost certainly not infiltrators. HH and L.Legend are also probably safe, if a little less. I really don't think Sart's initial vote was an elim trying to save a teammate. Doesn't seem right. That leaves Araris, Droughtbringer, and Devotary as possible eliminators. There is at least one eliminator in that set of three I think. Also, I get the feeling nutella is village. Also, with an elim vote manipulator down, it would make sense for us to start looking for the unstable mistborn as well. I'm not sure what it means for role distribution, that the elims had a vote manipulator... More on that later. Editing this in 'cause nobody else posted since I last did: Theory: the carpet thing actually hints at some game secret that's extremely important.
  14. I’ll be back to post and do PMs in like half an hour.
  15. Oh, I don’t think Jasnah is truly a sociopath. Like Vashakh said, it’s not binary. But she does have some of those traits. She definitely supresses her emotions and empathy more than a normal person would. Jasnah is probably more mentally balanced than many of the other characters you are comparing her to. But that’s not really saying much. The stuff our characters have to deal with takes a toll. Kaladin isn’t a sociopath, but he has plenty of other issues to cope with. And, honestly, are Jasnah’s traits necessarily a bad thing? I’d say Roshar badly needs Jasnah Kholin. They’re fighting an evil god of passion and hatred. Look how close Dalinar came to being consumed by that. Can you imagine the unmade trying to corrupt Jasnah? The attempt would almost be laughable.
  16. Well I guess the cycle’s closed in a few seconds. Lets see how it turns out.
  17. I helped cement the counterwagon and I’m still given pause by how fast that vote swung. I suspect that’s just an effect of things speeding up toward’s the cycle’s end though. Time will tell.
  18. Hmmm... I have a feeling I’m going to get shot down for doing this later, but... Steeldancer Asterion I’d sooner see a lurker get the noose than somebody who truly isn’t on the scene. Plus, Sart’s argument about Asterion dodging the lynch is probably the most coherent case for somebody being an elim I’ve heard yet, even if it is pretty insubstantial. I wonder if @Seonid might consider this to be a sort of compromise, though I understand it might be too late in the cycle for that.
  19. Jasnah is probably one of my favorite characters. Given the relatively small amount of screen-time she's given, she has surprising depth. I sympathize very much with her outlook, even if I disagree on some important points. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say she's asexual, but I'll also note that she can be distant in a way that might make it hard for anyone to tell how she feels about others (which might be a contributing factor to her dismissing the entire thing). Depends what exactly you call a sociopath. Jasnah definitely exhibits sociopathic tendencies.
  20. Well, I finally got around to finishing OB. Most excellent.
  21. I come back and there's lots of activity going down! Excellent. Most excellent. Y'alls are great. @Devotary of Spontaneity In reply to your question, I'd be surprised if there was more than 3 elims because I think that would weight the game a little bit against the village, especially given that the crazy mistborn is aligned against the village as well as being against the elims. Soo... Hmmmmmm... In reply to @Seonid's suggestion of an inactive lynch: Is it worth it to hurt our odds at winning to ultimately build the game up? Yes, absolutely. Even though lynching an inactive produces comparitively little information at the start of the game when we rather need information, and risks hitting a tineye 1 and shutting down PMs, it's definitely worth it if that could improve Sanderson Elimination as a whole. Does lynching an inactive actually discourage inactivity? I'm less sure about that. I need to think more about this thing before I would consider getting behind an inactive lynch.
  22. @Droughtbringer friendly reminder that the cycle is 3/4 over and you haven't said anything yet. @Darkness_ I love a good poke. Ahi is probably my favorite. That said, what are your thoughts on today's lynch? Who would you lynch if it was your choice? @shanerockes welcome! Also, friendly reminder that the cycle is 3/4 over and you haven't said anything yet. @ShaneysRus another friendly reminder, but I'm tiring of typing the same thing. @Sart I pose the same two questions to you as I did Darkness. @Aspen welcome! Also another reminder that the cycle is almost up. Idk if any of you said you wouldn't be around for cycle 1 in advance, but I think it won't hurt to mention everybody who hasn't already been poke-voted by somebody else, in case they have forgotten. As I said several times above, the cycle is nearly ended. Poke votes are super useful at the beginning of the first cycle. They draw people into the game, encourage discussion, and give us some basic reads on each other. But the first cycle is almost over now and I think they might be less useful. Araris said we needed a decisive lynch, and poke votes have a way of being scattered all over. I think it'd move things forward more if the lynch was based on genuine (or at least publicly feigned) suspicions. For myself, I'm keeping my vote on Steeldancer. I still haven't found words to properly express why. Sorry 'bout that. I realize that makes things difficult, but it's the best I can come up with right now. I'll also let it be recorded that I'm reading very tentatively village on both Straw and Araris.
  23. I would be quite surprised if the distribution was anything other than 3 elims with no vote manipulation. We can, for the time being, neglect to worry about our Serial Killer, but at some point that will become an additional concern if not removed. If there are no further developments I will back lynching Straw, but I don’t like it. I think the elims wouldn’t play their hands like that, if in the least because it’d be no fun. I think Straw is just joking around (that said they should definitely retract their vote). I think... We need more people to speak up. I’m not entirely sure what direction to go next yet. Maybe in the morning I’ll do something to drag more people in. For now, I really, really ought to sleep.
  24. This is probably going to be a bit different from some of my other RPs, but lets see how it goes. Jay looked up from his desk. He noted the important-looking stranger waiting there, who cleared her throat a second time. "Can you direct me to the history section?" "Err... Yes," Jay responded. "One moment." He stood, dusting off his coat. His vision faded momentarily as the blood rushed to his head, and he found himself seated again. He tried again, cursing as he got to his feet and remained on them. He hated desk work. "I am sorry, ah... Just a little off-color today I reckon." Without waiting for the visitor, Jay strode off in what he thought was the general direction of the history section. He stopped at a junction, looking up. Was this the history section? Hard to tell. "Not blue enough," he declared under his breath as the visitor caught up, continuing down a different corridor of books. "What was that?" she asked. "Nothing." Jay hadn't the slightest clue what the sign said on it. The history section was supposed to be a sort of blue... Ish? It had been sort of a while since he'd been there. "Er... I think we're here," Jay guessed. "These are history books," he declared, more confidently, as if willing it to be so. The woman nodded curtly. "I need something to overview the founding of the Final Empire. Any recommendations?" Jay suppressed a sigh of relief. This was the history section after all. "Certainly. Ah... This one." He rested his finger on a thick-looking tome. Good leather. Dyed a lovely, deep shade of green. "This one looks good." He presented it to her. "A Collection of Terris Folktales?" She said incredulously. Jay winced, making a mental note to kick his employer when this charade was through with. "Yes," he explained curtly. After a silence that prolonged one moment too long, he continued: "Yes, the title can be decieving, but it really does an exquisite job of covering those early days of the Final Empire." He prayed she would accept that. She looked doubtful. "Trust me," Jay said. Another moment of prolonged silence, this one stretching onward... "Anyways, is that the time? Looks like the sky is going orange, and by that I mean closing hours... Off you go I guess! Can't have Luthadel's Library open all the time now, can we?" A brief while later Jay locked the entrance to the library with a soft click. He tapped the lock again, a ghost of a grin spreading across his angular face. It clicked a perfect E flat. One by one, he extinguished each light, whistling to himself. Gradually, it became darker, until he stood in total darkness. Jay continued to whistle as he let himself out the back door of the great library, locking it behind him with another click that punctuated his song nicely. He walked across Luthadel, as night gradually fell and the mists thickened around him. They had been disconcerting at first, but the mists were starting to grow on him, slowly. He continued to whistle as he fished a reed from his sleeve, slotted it into a fancy looking door, and opened it with another click. He was fairly sure this was the right place. Pity he couldn't read the signposts in this cursed language. He entered the building, and sensed a presence coming up behind him. He hung his coat on the rack by the door, muttering something unintelligible to himself as the elaborate rug he tread across slowly lost it's color, bleeding to a dull, uniform grey. Jay walked onward. He continued to whistle as his coat caught the arm reaching out behind him, batted the glass knife out of it's hand, wrapped itself around the owner's throat, and began bashing his assailant's head against the wall. He walked purposefully up the ornate stairway, down a hallway, and into a bedroom. Jay ignored the occupant, who was beginning to awake, approaching the cabinet beside the bed. He opened the middle drawer, then placed his reed into the keyhole concealed in the back of the drawer, which writhed in his hands until the drawer's secret compartment opened to Jay. He withdrew a pair of smallish spikes, clucking in disapproval. This was what his employer had wanted so badly? A couple of rusty nails? Foolishness. He moved to close the drawer, then paused. Now what was that? He reached in a second time, drawing out a sprawling, elegant cloak composed entirely of tassels. This was a different story altogether from the nails. A delightful creation. The tassels layered upon themselves exquisitely, creating a beautiful garment, with beautiful potential for his art. Yes, he was certainly bringing this with him. "No!! Thief!!!" the bed's occupant yelled, reaching towards Jay. Jay rapped the fellow on his head, pocketing the nails and bundling the cloak under one arm, and left the way he had come. As he backtracked through the hallway, he saw his coat was still bashing the poor unconscious hazekiller. With a word, the coat dropped limp, and Jay put it on again, stepping over the crumpled guardsman, who he sensed was still alive. There was shouting in his wake, but Jay doubted anyone would intercept him at this point. The guards seemed... Distracted. There should have been a second guard at the entrance. He stepped out of the door, closing it behind him. He locked it for good measure, reasoning that if another person robbed this house, they ought to earn it. A job well done, even if his quarry seemed only to be of sentimental value. Hardly his concern. He was far more interested in the cloak. Jay slung his new coat over his shoulders, and disappeared into the mists, whistling happily to himself.
  25. Oooh that would be kind of funny. Not quite funny enough to let it happen, but funny. Me too. Hopefully I'll have something more intelligent to say tomorrow though, don't worry.
