  1. Yes indeed. You seem to understand it spot on. I really hope I get to writing this story. One thing I want to try is having a character who is a outlaw for his use of Dubstep. In the current war going on, this character lived in the place where classical music is how they fight. Using things like pianos, violins, and stuff like that. However, the people of this country doesn't think that the classical musicians and the jazz musicians and the tech/rock musicians should mix. There is basically a three-way war going on between these groups, so if you are born in the country of classical music but you have powers for music's like dubstep or rock they either kill you, banish you, or force you to stop using that kind of music. Yup. If you imprison one of these kinds of people, they may find a way out simply by scratching the walls. However, it is seen as strange to do so, but it is worth it to be that powerful.
  2. "New person??" Carola shouts from the other room. The runs in, but trips as she enters and slides a few inches across the floor. She raises her hand and waves,"Welcome! Enjoy the plentiful bookies!"
  3. Good question. You see, in this world, some people are born with the "gift" to use this magic. Of course, they can only use it after training and practice, so if someone with this "gift" had some practice I think they could probably use something like a buzz saw to create "music" that would give a desired effect, however, since that may count as its own genre it would probably work very strangely when compared to other music genres. Maybe I can find a better way to explain. Example: someone who has trained for a while on tha violin could grab any violin and use it to make music, whereas someone who has never before touched a violin couldn't make music, but simply "sounds". Some would call it music but it would have a very different effect on one's hearing. So in this world, when is comes to something like a buzz saw, someone could train in order to make "music" out of it, but it would take plenty of time and effort, and most likely would have the right effect. Like if someone who plays the Cello all of their lives is told to play the Saxophone may understand a few simple concepts to it, but cannot fully make music with it with out practice. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't This looks like a really good story. I feel like I may have heard of it before, but I am definitely interested. I think the magic I have made is going to be slightly different, but they are both based around, I believe, similar concepts
  4. Ooh yeah. Thanks for pointing that out. That is brilliant. (ooh maybe I could have a main character who really wants to be a composer. . .) Glad to hear it! Also, has been something I have been working on for sometime now with a few of my gamer siblings so that might have been influenced in that direction
  5. A half-baked magic system I have been working on includes music. Imagine having things like classical music or dubstep control the real world. By writing a song, you can literally change the world. Things like rap battles or battle of the bands would be closer to war than one would think, and knowing how to direct a band or orchestra could put you in the place of a General. With these effects music has, imagine how it would be to use ear buds or headphones? They Change how you see things. And if you use them for too long, and then take them out you could be very hurt. It is a pretty halfbaked idea, but I have had so much fun thinking about it, being a musician myself, and knowing how music effects people. What do you think?

  12. "The best paths in life are rarely the easiest" "Don't take things personally, what people say about you is their reality, not yours" "Don't let someone dim your light simply because it is shining in their eyes" "Respect people that find time for you in their busy schedule, but love people who never look at their schedule when you need them" "If you don't want anyone to find outt, don't do it" "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on" "You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore" "Forget what hurt you in the past, but never forget what it taught you" "Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen" "You can close your eyes to what you do not want to see, but you cannot close your heart to what you do not want to feel" And lastly, "you were born to be real, not perfect"
  13. Set in Stone by Frank Morin is a very good one that I recommend
  14. @King ColeI (Being in character) was born in Jah Keved, and am the youngest of a nice family. I lived with them for a long time, learning basic reading skills, I was taugut well in how to draw and how to play music, as well as learning how to study. My mother taught me most of it, thouth tutors occasionally were hired by my parents to teach me in skills I was very advanced at. SoundS like a nice life, right? And It was, until it all ended. One night, we had left home for a week(I think) to celebrate my brother aging another year. While we were gone, however, bad things happened. Everything was stolen from us. My father checked with the people who paid hi for his work to see if he could work more to gain back the money, and they said yes. However, they had more people working by that point and therefore paid him less and less for the time he spent at work. Along with that, more theives came, taking our spheres before we could use any of them. After a long time, we didn't have enough spheres to support all of us. I thought I knew what I should do. I left. I ran from home, so they wouldn't have to worry spending their time and money on me. Two of my older siblings had moved out, and we're married, but there were still a lot left at home. I knew I couldn't help make money like my other siblings could, so I decided I didn't want to be a burden. However, since I knew basically nothing about making money, I couldn't very well rent or buy a place to stay, so I lived in the streets. I had brought with me two sketchpad along with about five dresses and a bit of food in the hopes that I could make them last until I got to my destination. I planned to walk all the way to Alethkar, in hopes of finding a way to make more money for my family. I learned a lot on the way. I studied everything I could, and drew until my sketchbooks were full. Once I got to Alethkar, I still had to live on the streets, but I was able to sell some of my dresses for money, so I could have a place to stay, and food to eat. One day, while I was sitting on the street corner, a woman came and sat next to me. She talked to me and as she spoke with me she found just how intelligent of a person I am. She asked me if I wanted to be a scholar, and I told her yes. She then took me to the Kholinar palace(castle? Idk), where I met some of the scribes and scholars there. I shared some of my learnings with them and was allowed to work there, with Navani's scribes. Then, then Navani went to the Shattered plains, I went with her, and helped them research quite a few things. At one point I had discovered something interesting about the Horeater peaks, so I went there for a while to investigate(which is how I got into the world hopper mess), and have done many other studies Life was pretty gfeat from then, but every night I still do feel the hurt of missing my family. I have started sending them portions of the money I get every once in a while, but I don't think I can ever go back. Lavala came to me while I was walking to Alethkar, though I didn't realy get to know her until I was part of Navani's group. Tldr version: my family was rich for a while, then they got too poor to support me, so I left, and eventually joined Navani's group of scholars, and I learned about the Cosmere from there, however I will always feel sad about leaving my family. Does that answer correctly? I may have done too in depth. Sorry about how long this was. See ya later! Signed, Carola Davar
  15. @King Cole, welcome! I can't wait to meet you at Urithiru. Do you have anything in particular planned for when you get there?
  16. So, @Tesh Kholin, what will we be doing here? Any specific agenda?
  17. @Tesh Kholin, I am at urithiru at the moment. I am just finishing up a smalL study of my abilities then I hope to join you on your trip to Sel(I really do need to practice my Aondor)
  18. @Sami I hope it works out, and can't wait to see what happens!
  19. @Sami, I know Kaladin a bit. I was able to spar with him once or twice, to practice with Lavala as a shardblade. Of course, as of now, he's gone to Hearthstone. Once he gets back I will surely introduce you two, though. I think you might be able to start a good conversation wiht him(you seem to have similar interests) and I really want to see that. As far as lessons go, I can ask him, but since he is so busy helping out Dalinar and Shallan, I can't confirm if he will.
  20. You know, I have been watching this stuff happen for a while and I realize I haven't even introduced myself! My name is Carola Davar, a distant cousin of Shallan's. I am a world hopper and a good friend to Hoid, though I have many differing oppinions from him. I have an awakened sword(referred to as Lightsketch), and I have a cryptic spren named Lavala, and the powers she gives me makes it so I can draw things and they can some to life(plus, I finally found out how to add sound to my creations, due to my knowledge of music). I can use Aondor during the times when I am in Elantris, though I still need more practice. I'm good friends with Kaladin(mainly because I can tell when he needs alone time), thouth I am now even better friends with Shallan. I enjoy practicing dueling occasionally with some of Dalinar's men, but since it seems to be very frowned upon in society, I try not to do it too often. At the times when I can, I assist Navani's scholars with their research(which is the main reason I came to the plains in the first place), but now that I have discovered just how special my abilities are, I have been trying to gain knowledge of how it works, and have avoided a lot of human interaction. I hope to change things(I enjoy talking to people, but the few friends I had are now way too busy, what with the Everstorm and all), so. What are you guys up to? Anything I can do to help?
  21. I know that I had had the idea of a drawing magic systam, but then the Rithmatist happened. . .
  22. Okay I will try my best, thouth if it isn't as good as you want feel free to not use it
  23. Yes I did. It was a few yeas ago, so I should probably update it. ..
  24. I may be able to draw it for you, but I do need a description. I don't remember where in the books it is described, so if you could tell me where it is I think I can help you out.
  25. Kaladin, and Dalinar have always been personal favorites of mine, but overall Raoden and Kelsier are my favorites.
