Carola thinks for a moment, then replies, "I don't want to tell you something you already know. . . Is there anything in particular you are seeking to know?" Then, in response to Eighth, says, "My name is Carola. May I ask yours?"
-
Carola smiles at Louik, "I would probably like to have whatever you can tell me. Even if the information given isn't important to me, it may eventually be important to someone else, and will only end with me having more to use in trade."
-
Carola raised a hand, "I can check for Cognitive Shadows." She stepped into a corner for a moment, help up her safe hand - the place where her Cryptic currently resided- and asked him to check. When she was finished, she walked back, "None in the area currently."

I love Shallan. She is a wonderfully written character and, honestly, she has inspired me a lot. I learned to draw way better because of her, I learned to pay more attention to my surroundings, I learned to try to see the best in people. .. I relate to her a lot. Even though I don't have the extent of having full separate personalities, I do have trouble with being unable to be myself around people. I am almost always acting - pretending - around people, because I don't want anyone to see the flaws in me. For me, it got so bad once, that when someone told me to be myself, I kind of froze and said, "i. . . Don't know how." Even though Shallan hasn't yet gotten better with this problem (we don't even know if she even will), seeing how those bad things could happen still encouraged me to try to be better, and has inspired me to start being more genuine. I just love her, and it is really refreshing to see others that do too

@Ookla the Capricious Okay! In that case. . . Should there be any Cognitive Shadows? If there are, I can have Carola alert the others about them
-
Can spren see into the Cognitive Realm while bonded? I guess I had assumed they only saw into the physical realm when bonded.

Are we on Roshar? If so, there is a small chance Carola can. . .

Carola may have spheres with her, but you probably have to have something in return . . .she's a character who deals information, she has her way of finding it. At first, she could only travel throughout Roshar - she didn't leave for fear of leaving behind her spren, but after meeting a few other world hoppers she found a way. Carola looks around the room, eyeing each person. She glances at the book. "What kind of information are you looking for? I have plenty of things - and information - I could trade," she says, fingers tapping lightly in her bag.

My character is a red-head Knight Radiant - a Lightweaver - named Carola Davar. She hasn't said many oaths yet, but that is mainly because she has been very interested (some would say invested) in discovering more about this "Cosmere". She only learned world hopping recently - mainly on accident, as she had been trying to find out more about Horneaters. Carola strides into the room, bag slung over her shoulder, "I heard there is some information trading happening over here?"

I can't name one favorite character, so I will list a few 1 - the closest to being the tops, are Dalinar and Shallan. When I first got into Stormlight, I got to listen to one of Brandons reading of Dalinar's backstory chapters, and even though it was rather gruesome, I loved it. I was able to get through the few potentially boring parts of WoK because of my excitement to know more about Dalinar.(plus, the whole "warlord who now has to try diplomacy" was always intruguing). To see his full backstory in Oathbringer was just fantastic. Then there is Shallan. I relate to Shallan a lot. I too am a redhead who likes to draw, and learn, amongst other things. I didn't think Brandon could make me love her even more, and then Oathbringer came out and I just. . . . Storms, her character arc in this book was fantastic! Her multiple personality thing made me cringe, cry, and hurt deeply, and I can rarely get that kind of feeling from a book. 2 - After blabbing about those two characters, I should go on to my next one: Renarin. This kid is just so storming interesting to me. Due to his disability, most people seem to mostly ignore him. Within Oathbringer, we see Jasnah comforting him, and then along with Dalinar's backstory we get to know more about Renarin's. For the longest time, all I could feel for him was pity, yet by the end of Oathbringer, he really proved himself, and was able to but his amazing abilities to good use. 3 - Szeth. His interactions with Nightblood and Lift were frankly amazing. Even without those, we got his interesting views on Justice, and how it should work. I also love the little things that he does that gives us bits of insight into Shinovar culture. He does a lot of things in very creative ways, and his ability to wield Nightblood is just incredible. Other than that, I loved Kaladin and Lift a ton as well. The one character that I hadn't enjoyed before but I do enjoy now: Adolin - he had always seemed boring, flat, and too light for the story, but getting to know him better in Oathbringer, and now seeing his reactions to being in different places and situations. The little things, too. Like his love for fashion and his ability to sew, the fact that he could be friendly with Kaladin despite the love triangle, and a few other things. He just seemed way more interesting to me in this book.

I would love a novella featuring any of the non-main character Kholins. Jasnah, Elhokar, Renarin, Navani, Galivar. . .

Tbh, I actually really didn't Adolin for a while. I mean, he was fine to read, and I enjoying seeing other character's perspectives one him, but all the points you stated here really hung on me, and his chapters became difficult to read. However, reading Oathbringer, I found myself enjoying the little things about Adolin. His love of fashion (even thouth I generally find anything about fashion cringe-worthy), and him being nice to other characters, even when he might have had reasons to do otherwise. Adolin is by far not my favorite character, but I do enjoy him. Plus, now I, knowing his backstory (having to spend his teenagers with no mother, and a frankly awful father), feel a lot more sympathy towards him. You are fine to dislike him, I'd say. Everyone has their oppinions, but for me - things may be different for you- I tend to enjoy the story more if I do everything possible to find things I love about each character - big and small. (Exceptions should only include characters you are supposed to hate, like Sadeas or Amaram, but you can even try it with these ones too)

In my stories, I had one World hopper character, that would tell stories and help out the main characters in weird ways, but I actually thought of her before I knew about Hoid, so I plan to still use her. I have been changing her up a bit recently, though, so she isn't so close to being a gender bent Hoid.

Tbh, I read Mistborn at age 11, and most of his other books between then an now. Me being an already avid fantasy reader, as well as someone who likes to know more about people aND the way events effect them more than basically anyone my age found basically all of his books rather easy and fun to read. Of course, it wasn't something easy to get any of my friends into because they're different than me, but maybe one day. .. Anyways. I think that basically all the points made above are correct. Some can handle somethign like Stormlight at age 11, where as others have to wait until they are way older, and it's kinda different depending on the person

Not to mention the front cover of WoR

How do you make choices as a writer ?
CarolaDavar replied to Hawky's topic in Writing Excuses and Intentionally Blank
If you have already tried all these other things (which are amazing suggestions and generally things work out), but it hasn't worked, one last things you could try, would be combining ideas, like if you have two different magic systems, and your aren't sure which one to use, you can try finding the best of both and sticking them in. It may not work, but in a few instances, it could -
I believe there is a WoB somewhere saying that it won't heal because he sees it as part of himself. Like, Lopen could heal his arm because he had never really accepted his loss of that arm. Kaladin, however, feels like those scars are part of him, so they won't heal.
