  1. By the way, the second one is almost exactly twice as long as the first one.
  2. They left out Writing Excuses, and I sent them the file 9 days ago. Sigh.
  3. The French accent was corrected in a re-recording but apparently some of the French got left in by mistake. Unfortunate but not Kate's fault. The French only was tried in the first place due to my meddling; I wanted her to try something that sounded more like Michael's Tvlakv accent in the first book (because that was closer to how the accent was described in the book), but it came out French. So I said to scrap it and go back to the Irish, which did sound great, if not entirely accurate to the world. There is one scene in the Knife of Dreams audiobook where Michael read one character's line in another character's voice (the first character was mimicking the second character's way of speaking, so it's an understandable mistake), and for me it absolutely destroyed the scene. Perhaps the most important scene in the entire book, the climactic line, and it got mangled. I wanted to throw my iPod into the La Brea Tar Pits (which I was walking through at the time). My favorite narrator is Patrick Tull with his versions of the Patrick O'Brian books (Master and Commander, etc.) Sadly, he has passed away.
  4. Theoryland does post tweets. Honestly, I think the Theoryland database is supposed to be everything you want. It's just not all implemented yet.
  5. Recently we have been hoping March 2016 for the release, but it all depends on when Brandon finishes the book, of course (and he hasn't started writing it yet). Fall 2015 ain't gonna happen.
  6. Adolin also doesn't have the same name. But Dalinar, Renarin, and Elhokar still feel very much like the same people.
  7. Renarin gets some love (or, er, disdain from Elhokar) in the newly released teaser from Way of Kings Prime. http://brandonsanderson.com/want-to-join-bridge-four-the-altered-perceptions-anthology-final-week-drive/ There's a bit more of Elhokar being mean to poor Renarin in the chapters that will be in the Altered Perception anthology. I'm sure that will go over well around these parts.
  8. Ouch. Mickey Mouse is anatomically improbable, and I've seen some of the things he can do with his limbs a la Mr. Fantastic. I'd say magical.
  9. Which Saint Seiya are you watching?
  10. When does someone yell "Pervert!" and bring out a mallet? By the way...I want to see more. I read a bit to Brandon tonight.
  11. I have the Way of Kings print in my office. It looks really good. But it is very large. You have to like art to buy a big print like this, and you need to get a good frame for it. Most people matt it as well.
  12. "Would you like to destroy some evil today?" "I am a stick."
  13. Took you guys long enough.
  14. My favorite audiobooks are Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin books starting with Master and Commander. Narrated by Patrick Tull. There are a few different versions of the audiobooks out there, but the Patrick Tull-narrated ones are the best.
  15. I've never quite been one of you, since even before I started working for Brandon I always read the manuscripts way ahead of time, but I definitely know a lot more now that is outside of what he has written. Anyway, I try to keep my finger on the pulse of the forum, though obviously I'm not here every hour of every day.
  16. You can find links to them on the page for each book on Brandon's site. Look in the right sidebar for Maps & Illustrations.
  17. We watched 3 episodes of Mushi-shi and found it incredibly boring and nonsensical. Definitely not for us. We were able to watch the first episode of Gintama, and we won't be continuing. Far too random; it's trying too hard to be funny. For my humor shows I like something like Sgt. Frog. In the randomness direction I did like the couple episodes of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo that I saw a few years ago, but there's only so much of that type of thing I can take at a time. It would be good to have a fun shounen to fill the void left by Bleach. Hunter X Hunter continues to be a smarter show than Bleach was, but Bleach had some better character interactions. Unfortunately Bleach also had some entirely forgettable stuff, though most of that was the filler arcs that we ultimately skipped. I'll keep some of the other recommendations in mind.
  18. Good question. I'd also say that's technically science fiction, but depending on the fantasy flavor of the language it could still appeal to fantasy fans. It's definitely speculative fiction. However, when there are other intelligent species, I pay a lot of attention to whether there's any real reason for them to be another species or if the story would work just as well if they were humans too.
  19. If it doesn't have magic, I don't consider it fantasy. It's alternate-world historical fiction. It's still speculative fiction, but I just can't call it fantasy. Example: Half a King by Joe Abercrombie.
  20. Finally something in this thread is getting a bit closer...
  21. I practiced for weeks in front of a mirror in fourth grade. Same thing with wiggling one ear at a time, a useful skill which has served me well throughout my life.
  22. And now Silver Spoon has ended again, and just as I said (about halfway through the episode) "I love this show so much!" From Wikipedia, it looks like there is enough manga material for one more season. Space Brothers has also ended, but we're 20 episodes behind. Stein's;Gate had its dubbed episodes pulled from Hulu. Normally we watch subs but the dub on that was great. Looks like we won't be finishing it anytime soon. EDIT: Wow, it's really hard to find a new show. Ugh. I've watched various episodes and am having real problems. Needless (on Hulu): Didn't make it through a whole episode. Dumb, and ugh those character designs and costume designs. Kill La Kill: 1 episode. This was actually quite good but the outfits won't fly in our house. Magi: Most of an episode. Dumb. Golden Time: 1 episode. Shows some potential but I know this would bore Karen. Hamatora: 1 episode. Could be good, but too much sex. Can anyone tell me if there's sex and nudity in the other episodes? Clannad (Amazon Prime, we have a 1-month trial): 1 episode. Good enough for me, but bored Karen. She's OK with slice-of-life/relationships as long as something exciting is also happening, at least as exciting as Chihayafuru. Skip Beat: 4 episodes. Karen is not interested at all in the central plot and conflict, even though some of the character actions are funny. I could possibly watch more of this, but the setup of her earning points in the agency for being obsequious also sounds unappealing to me. Also last night Crunchyroll was freaking out on us and saying an episode was over after we had watched only a few minutes or seconds. Tried Saint Seiya something cloth and Gintama, but Crunchyroll wasn't cooperating enough to actually watch. Instead we went to Netflix and watched David Attenborough talk about polar bears.
  23. Yep. These things don't bother me at all, because people actually do them. I do have a list of things to look out for in revisions, but these aren't getting added to the list. If anything happens too many times close together I'll mark it.
  24. Just do what it says in the first post on this page.
  25. We finished Sword Art Online though we haven't seen the "Extra" movie (which I understand is mostly recap, with some new material) yet. The second arc did some interesting things, but it was rather different. I think a main reason for this is the different in time scales. The first arc happens over two years, and the second arc takes less than a week. Anyway, when the new season comes we'll watch it. It's fine if the story is totally different. Log Horizon also reached the end of its first season, and will return in about 6 months or so. It has a more coherent story arc than SAO and the main character is less of a Mary Sue. It's also way less dark. We're not caught up on Space Brothers, but after watching SAO each episode of Space Brothers seems really short, like hardly anything happens. Its pace is very different. It has a very different mood. So anyway, now the only shows we're looking forward to each week are HxH and Silver Spoon. We need to try more shows.
