Wait, how would you even make aluminiummind unkeyed? Since metalminds are made unkeyed by storing away aluminum...

After going through the history of Scadrial it struck me how hard the pool of Allomantic and Feruchemical genes had it. See: Starting point is the pre-Final Empire era or Classic Scadrial times. Before the Deepness. Allomancy is unknown and the only Allomancers are Mistings. Snapping threshold is mist-snapping hard. Feruchemy is in its highest point with Terris people keeping together making the bloodlines concentrated. Then Rashek Ascends. Allomancers are created by introducting lerasium to the population. Lerasiumborns are the strongest Allomancers ever alive exluding Rashek. Feruchemy has it far worse - all Feruchemists are turned into another species (the only one not turned, Kwaan, is hunted down and killed). The only Feruchemical genes left are those dormant in the rest of the Terris population. Final Empire. Allomancy is kept within noble bloodlines which helps to its strength. However, Allomancy by itself is diminishing in power. Additionaly skaa Allomancers are being hunted. The surviving Feruchemical genes are being bred out of the Terris population for about 900 years. Collapse of the Final Empire. House War and efforts of Kelsier's crew kill Allomancers. War that follows TLR's death kills many more. Ruin's rampage. Population decreases due to famine, eruptions of volcanoes and the rest of the stuff Ruin unleashed upon the Scadrial. Addtionaly Allomancers either die in wars or by being spiked by Ruin's Inquisitors. Additionaly those with weak Allomantic genes are mist-snappen and largely killed in the battles. All (or almost all) surviving Feruchemists are killed in Inquisitors' attack on Synod or later by Hemalurgy. The only survivors are the non-Feruchemist Terris refugees. Once again only dormant genes survive. Katacendre bottleneck: The only people who survive are those which hid in the TLR's storage cases. Allomancy gets a very minor boost by turning Spook into the last Mistborn of reduced power and mistfallen survivors (since mists actively added Investiture). All in all it does not look well. From passing-on-genes point of view, Feruchemists have been all killed twice (with dormant genes surviving) and between those two Feruchemy genocides there's been a breeding out program in effect for about 900 years. Allomancy by default is decreasing in power (although it will hit a saturation point and will stop) and majority of strong genes have been killed; weak genes also largely killed. It's a little depressing, truth be told.

It likes riddles, praps it does, does it?
Oversleep replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in General Discussion
Pretty sure that's a candle. Okay, I got another... math/geometry related one. Don't worry, nothing too complicated. What you have: a cow, three stakes, a metal ring (let's say size is half of a hand), and rope of length of 40 units. Your job is to make the cow eat grass only in half a circle with radius = 10 units. How do you do it? Ignore the length of the rope wasted on the knots and so on.- 168 replies

... it's like saying that one day order of numbers will be 1,2,3,...,8,9,0. Or 789456123 cause numpad. Not gonna happen, people. The power of Alpha and Beta is too great.

I know how that is, @Tariniel. Try to get some rest between all the studying if you can

Check Recreance vision. Every single one of them. Midnight Essence fight vision - Windrunner both fighting and using Basic Lashing in full Shardplate. If it was Kaladin's own Shardplate it wouldn't interfere. ... care to explain what you mean? I don't understand. Using Shardblades is so, so much more against his character. And he has zero problems with Syl turning Shardblade.

It seems I'm in for a wiki battle over whether the series of books taking place on Scadrial should be refered to as Mistborn or Final Empire. Context: the first Mistborn book, FInal Empire, was released in Poland as simply Mistborn and somehow people started refering to the series as Final Empire. It's very irritating but I have influence over the Polish Sanderson group and I'm part of the fansite. I think that with time I can eradicate that. But most Polish sources are some internet reviews and of course they are mindlessly perpetuating the original mistake and the wiki editior points them as proof I'm wrong. It doesn't help even publisher goes back and forth about the naming in the blurbs.

... where are you getting that from? When Kaladin shows dislike for Shards it's always about the Blade, first cause it killed his men then is the result of the Nahel bond related screaming. And even then has no problems using Shallan's Blade. No feelings about that. What's more, he has no problems whatsover with wearing it when dueling Shardbearers.

Is Hoid too intrusive a presence in the Stormlight Archive?
Oversleep replied to Quiver's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The way I see it... It's just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When I've seen Iron Man the first time I did not know what that agent was talking about or what that guy in the stinger was about. Who is that guy who gave Loki the scepter was a mystery and something to wonder about. So Hoid is just a mysterious character who knows much more than he lets slip and is somebody a casual reader will identify as such. Much more with the Elantris 10th Anniversary Edition stinger. -
Could please somebody explain why wouldn't Kaladin want his own Shardplate? I mean, very resistant power armor which does not inhibit movement in any way and, if what we've seen in visions is what we think it is, it can be summoned at will. What are the cons? Meanwhile the pros are numerous: protection against mundane damage = less Stormlight wasted on healing. Protection against supernatural damage, like Shardweapons. Interference with other Investitures - Szeth couldn't Lash people in Shardplate, it's almost impossible to be Pushed/Pulled etc. Protection against Voidbringers - Adolin would be toast when that stormform threw lightning at him - also it protects the eyes, as the helmet adapted to black out the flashes. Possibly it also creates a closed circuit of Stormlight, which means none of it is wasted by evaporation.
-
Anyway we can quite safely assume that simple Stormlight/Regrowth healing won't stop aging. Case in point: Miles, the ever-healing man with infinite (for practical purposes) storages of health was aging normally.

Wyndle has only recently crossed into Physical Realm from Shadesmar and his memories are far from complete. His mention of the weapons being strange is in line with Syl's revulsion of the dead Shardblades. He sees weapons but at the same time those weapons are spren locked in agony and he can feel that to some level. Sees weapons + feels something spren-like = "there's something strange about those things".

I thought I'd drop some WoBs on you all here since you got some facts wrong:

Brandon also retconned Hoid searching for Well of Ascension. Back in the day, that's what Hoid was doing until he eavesdropped our protagonists while leading Terris refugees. Then he worldhopped to the Well. Of course, this was changed as now Hoid came to Scarial through the Well.

I'm pretty sure Greece did it earlier. I don't know who did it before the Greeks.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

On Sunday I told my parents that I failed the year and I'm retaking the courses. Take the Good Parents Trope... and that's my parents. The only thing close to scolding me was them telling me it was stupid of me not to tell them earlier. That I shouldn't have held it in all summer cause it made me feel cremy all the time. Good parents I have -

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Almost two weeks of rain almost every day. Temperatures around 50 F and lower. And I'm sick since Sunday. -
that sandwiches thing is cultural/language quirk. In Poland we do not have separate terms for two-slices-of-bread-food and one-slice-of-bread-food. The closest translation of the term we use is 'sandwich'. Also, cookies are best homemade. Do not accept things you can buy. They want you to think that's what you should eat. Why would you listen to them?

A WoB says they totally could grow beards which could totally lead to awesome beard competitions. I'd look for it, but Internet is bad here.
