  1. I hate when people are being hypocritical about eristic (so pointing out ad personam while at the same time using a less known method. I don't care if they're not aware of it.) Well, I myself didn't read Shopenhauer, but I can recognize one of the methods when I see one. Also, I hate analogies as an argument. Because there is always a different one applicable to situation which would be from opposite viewpoint (shame I never can think of one). Note, there is nothing wrong with analogies as means of explaining something better, but using them to argue in favor of something? Argh.
  2. Nothing has changed about Hemalurgy being unkown to Scadrians. And I dind't know we now have a method to spike memories out of a person. Yeah, except that nobody knows about Hemalurgy.
  3. Do we have any hard numbers on the armies? Because Alethkar is very millitarily oriented with a lot of soldiers, while I don't remember a single mention of an army in Basin. Lawmen, sure, but no soldiers. Roman Empire had a very significant advantage over barbarians: strategy and military training. Simple fact of having war formations was a game breaker: 10 000 Roman soldiers against 100 000 to 230 000 British warriors. And there was no war in the last 300 years in the Basin, while Alethkar is constantly at war.
  4. Yeah, why not, give Scadrial not only all the technology and whatever, but also get Marsh on their side and Bands Of Mourning. So I'm assuming Roshar has all the Heralds on their side and also they found all the lost Shardblades and Shardplates (cause like 90% of them are missing). So they got an army of Shardbearers led by ageless Surgebinder warriors. Oh, and they have all the modern fabrials and also recreated all the Surgebinding fabrials. If Shardplate can withstand direct lightning hit, I assume that it cannot be simply destroyed by bullets, unless you got a lot of big calibres. Shards are unaffected by Allomancy. Scadrians are gonna be slaughtered.
  5. Since Hoid is an allomancer... Maybe he can burn a part of Shardplate (cause it can be tanavastium...) to gain all the Surges? Naah, probably not possible.
  6. Oh right. Rowling. I already have forgotten about that. BTW, I started watching Gravity Falls. I just finished second episode and I think I'll probably watch it all. It's fun. But are there other cartoons of a more serious tone? Like Avatar or W.I.T.C.H.? I already rewatched Young Justice few months ago. Maybe one day I will give Teen Titans or Samurai Jack a chance. Some other possibilities?
  7. Am I supposed to know who is this other author from context? Am I missing out on something?
  8. Maybe chasmfiends also get possessed with voidspren, thus becoming Vodibringers?
  9. Do we know what was the deal with Rashek's metalminds? There is a number of WoBs about them being spikes, but I thought they were just metalminds which pierced the skin. Do we know what Hemalurgic charge they carry or it's all just a big mistunderstanding?
  10. I just realized how a good scene which sets the mood can look like: All wind mages will wear longcoats. Or have long hair. Because they ALWAYS have a handy dramatic wind. They can safely and easily stand on top of high things (having control over air has benefits) and have their badchull robes flutter in the wind because they command the wind. So I will have a character point at such situation: 'Who is that?' *Sigh* 'Five bucks that it's a wind mage.' 'How do you know?' 'They all do that.' EDIT:
  11. So, few days ago I wrote a post why Allomantic pewter is a very good combination with feruchemy (here). Then in several Twinborn threads I noticed people wondering whether Allomantic pewter enhancements really can be stored So I went on WoB hunt, since I remember that I once read that you could store extra healing from burning pewter in goldmind (or some other attribute. That was long ago). But the only thing I found was: Does anyone remember the WoB I'm talking about?
  12. We've got several Twinborn threads (that, that, that and that). I suspect there are even more buried deep down the forums. Can't we have just one? Merge them, or... something? Close all but one?
  13. Fixed. I intentionally didn't include lerasium in the list. Allomantically it would be a game breaker and we don't know its other uses. At first I didn't intend to include atium, but then I though "why not?". Feruchemically it can be interesting, Allomantically its's badchull, and Hemalurgically it balances having to pick only one power per metal - so you got a spike for anything.
  14. little past 3 am, we just got back from the Mass. So you know, Jesus lives, we're all happy, that sort of thing. We've got that relatively new tradition that we would take out some of our wine and (finally) eat the cakes. Yeah, at the 2:30 am (today it's 3:30 because time change) we're eating cakes with some good wine and it's all pretty good. Of course my sister and mom would find something to stir dung up. And since in my family the only situation that some minor detail doesn't end up in Everstorm is when it's between me and my father... Yeah, they started arguing. We tried to change the topic, but THIS MINOR DETAIL is important enough to argue, because why storming not? Happy Holidays, Oversleep. I don't want to go in detail about how the life looks in my family (at least not right now) but suffice to say that soon I'd be able to write a pretty complex algorithm for how arguments go. EDIT: They made peace in the morning. Whew, that was suprisingly fast. Still, the ease which things blow up here with is pretty terrifying.
  15. I have nothing but what Pagerunner linked.
  16. Marsh is an atium savant, so...
  17. About the whole "Brandon should focus on his masterplan" issue: The way I see it, an author should write what he wants to write. There's nothing good in forcing yourself to write something you feel you should, but want to do something else. So from the moment I heard about the big masterplan I'm taking it with a grain of copper. If it turns out Brandon won't write sci-fi Mistborn, I'll weep just like everyone else, but I'll understand. Sometimes plot grows. Sometimes you can plan it and build it, sometimes it is organic and grows in unexpected directions. Sometimes you can control it, sometimes you should just let it grow.
  18. There is no such thing as 'heavy handed setup' when you're chopping a source material to make a season of anime out of it. It's as if somebody made a movie out of Part 1 & 2 of The Way Of Kings and you'd complain that there was a 'heavy handed setup' for a sequel. You see what I mean?
  19. Yeah, I know what is homeopathy. But believing in "water memory" is... well, stupid, but... how to put it... Okay, I probably could sell it to somebody who was stupid, right? Just say that stuff is 'quantum' and maybe they'd believe. But I don't know how stupid one had to be to believe that tying a knot on your hand and then burying the string would help his eyes. Or pouring milk over the head. That's like straight up magic.
  20. pfffft. Homeopathy? That's, like, beginner's level. I don't have time to dig up the really juicy (or scary) ones, so the first from the line: "My daughter has otitis, can somebody suggest something apart from chemical medicines?" answer: "Pour hydrogen peroxide into the ear and stick a hot potato to it. I personally use microwave to heat up the potato and then apply it through a cloth." Some 'advices' are borderline... not lethal, you wouldn't kill yourself instantly, but... you would in longer distance. Because you can't heal cancer with diet. On a lighter note, for some of questions like "my child has something..." there is a response "how long since you got rid of the worms last time?". Take your children to the vet, people! XD (Just kidding, doctors will try to prescribe medication. And that's bigpharma...) Overdosing vitamin C was also a trend. Oh and by the way, does somebody know what is "dead water"?
  21. Tor also says it's July 5th, but maybe they got it from amazon. http://www.tor.com/2016/03/18/brandon-sanderson-white-sand-graphic-novel-preview/
  22. Did any kandra got Miles bones? Since they all seem obsessed with bones of Bloodmakers and since Miles was a double gold Twiborn... Why did Ruin manifest as black mist near Well Of Ascension? I get that Preservation spread out in Physical Realm as mists, but I thougth that essence of the Shard, its power is in Spiritual. So why did Ruin manifest in Physical? Is it about perpendicularity? Was Ruin locked in specific place?
