  1. @Asasasyn in White Since I ordered it from amazon, I think my story can be useful. First of all, amazon charged me $7.98 for shipping to Poland. That came as surprise as I expected $3.99. Be warned. I ordered it on July 4th (the price was $17.72) and it will ship soon (the latest schedule was "shipping on 14th" but it still says "shipping today"...sooo). Estimated Time of Arrival is Aug 9 - Aug 29. All in all I payed $25.70 (about 102 PLN) so it was still less than what I'd pay in most of the Polish stores. Apart from that one, they're the cheapest and they want 89 PLN + shipping (between 6 and 9 PLN), but they currently have none copies in stock. I mailed them on June 29th and they said they will probably have it in stock soon. Apart from the obvious fact that it's 2.5 weeks later and 'soon' hasn't arrived, I can recommend them as their customer service is flawless, never had any issues with them. Or you can wait at least 2 years for three-in-one like @Morzathoth suggested. I hope my post was of help to you EDIT: It was shipped yesterday and ETA is now August 10th.
  2. @Shadeshadow227 Upvote for correct physics and almost correct thinking I'd rather say that Awakening drains the ability of the object to absorb light. (Basically, what 'color' is) Because if it drains the light absorbed by the object, like you proposed... then it has no effect on light reflected (that's right) and it absorbs the light which is already absorbed, so it would not make the object change color. Instead greater Invocation makes the object reflect all of the light and regular Awakening most of it.
  3. Polish. I added a limitation to Angle's powers: he can only alter acute angles. So he can add only up to 90 degrees (but not 90). That way he cannot reflect things back at the opponents. Hm... or maybe up to 45 degrees in both directions? That way his full field of ability would be 90 degrees. He could deflect things 45 degrees in any direction. A fine balance between good ability and being OP.
  4. That's a very good pun. That double meaning! XD Unfortunately it's a play of words which is not translateable into my language :|
  5. I haven't, but I'm meaning to. I had a late-night trip to the kitchen and as I was walking back and forth while eating an apple, I figured out most of the Angle. Put in spoiler to avoid wall of text about my worldbuilding: I noticed that since I started writing things down and sharing them here I have ideas more frequently. The more you think about things, the more ideas you have. Weird.
  6. Mentally unstable people can hear Ruin even without being spiked. That's how Vin got her spike and that's exactly how Zane spiked himself.
  7. Right now we're looking for Fall 2016 to the end of writing and about year later (probably Fall) 2017 to come out. If you want to know why it takes such a long time between the end of writing to the publication, I'll explain: lots and lots of art, both interior and exterior; revisions; continuity; editor's going through; more revisions; redactor going through; revisions. Well, I guess. I hope somebody who's more familiar with the process of publishing a book could correct me and offer a better explanation.
  8. There was a thread about "X is cosmere". We discussed Dishonored briefly (conclusion: totally cosmere). Now I'm playing to it and I'm mapping what Outsider is, what is the focus, the end-variable... everything.
  9. It came to me when I was reading the Stormlight Trailer thread. Nohadon's Way of Kings is a tool to make new Surgebinders. Dalinar reads it, starts living adhering to the ideals and morals it represents and he becomes a person who can attract a Nahelspren. So you find someone with potential to be a Surgebinder (I mean correct moral system and so on; and probably being already broken, if we can find such person), give Way Of Kings to that person and wait. If it catches on, the person starts to live by ideals in the book and boom! we have a person who's exhibiting the traits which attract the spren. If it doesn't catch on, I doubt that person would come to the correct mindset anyway. P.S. I believe that Oaths were always part of the system. Anyway, nor Nohadon or Heralds did in any way make changes to the Surgebinding. Even Shards don't have direct control over their magic systems and can only play little tricks (like adding Intent to perform Hemalurgy or setting mists to Snap atium mistings instead of cadmium).
  10. @Doctor12 Your WoK trailer literally gave me the chills. When I read: I really felt that bass drop and those quick scenes following. Excellent pacing. I'd give that post all my ten upvotes if I could. Although I have to admit that your WoR trailer was a little too spoilery. Not only revealing that Everstorm comes, but you can't start the trailer with "Everstorm comes" and later say "Everstorm is here". Not only it spoils a majority of the book, but it also kills the curiosity and feeling of expectation which "Everstorm comes" created; the point of the trailer is to left the viewer hungry for more, curious. I'm sorry if those words come off as too harsh, as I really enjoyed both of your trailers. But I feel I needed to tell you that.
  11. The current consensus is that Windrunners get abnormaly high number of squires. There is a WoB where somebody asked about Windrunners' perk and the answer was something like "watch the number of squires". Kaladin's mastery of spear I'd assign as a simple talent. You know, sometimes people are born with talents - not everything has to be related with magic XD I say Kaladin is natural born spear genius. And he's got Stormlight. The problem is that Lightweavers perk are probably Memories and the only Lightweaver example is complicated example as there was this whole repressing the bond thing... Elsecallers maybe have very good sense of direction, but again Jasnah is probably quite advanced in her Oaths. We have no clue what other Orders ability could be and the examples running around (like Lift and Dalinar or Renarin) has already swore at least First and Second Ideal. That's not gonna help us determine when the ability starts to work.
  12. I'll just have you know that Supergiant Games products are 80% off on Steam. And if you buy the bundle Bastion + its OST + Transistor + its OST it's even cheaper. Go get it.
  13. BASTION AND TRANSISTOR (AND THEIR OSTS) ARE 80% OFF ON STEAM DON'T EVEN CONSIDER NOT BUYING IT'S EVEN CHEAPER IF YOU BUY THE WHOLE BUNDLE
  14. Right now I'm developing powerset for character who chose name "Angle". I'm still not sure about limitations or how his powers are going to work, but the basic idea is that everything misses him. He could walk through battlefield unscathed. He could walk highspeed road and somehow every vehicle will go around him. I have to decide the basic mechanism - does he bend reality? Warp space? Maybe he induces some kind of neurological error so that people can't target him properly (I'd rather not go with that as I want him to be able to avoid shrapnels and other things which does not involve humans). But Bending Reality is kind of too OP; on the other hand, I can't figure out how to use Angle's ability offensively - if I go with warping space that's ripping people apart without any effort and how do you stop somebody like that? (The main reason why Repulsors exist is that I set hard limits for telekinesis so that standard telekinesists don't go ripping people apart) The inspiration was when @TwiLyghtSansSparkles misspeled "Angel" in one of her posts about the show and I took it from there.
  15. IIRC pre-Shattering magic was weaker than Shard-based magic. Anyway, let's remember that a fraction of power of a single Shard is enough to push a whole planet around. Imagine what could a whole Shard do and then multiply it by sixteen. Shards are just in a whole another power-level category than human magic-users. I'd say that even the person with most broken and impossible magic combinations we could think of would be easily destroyed by someone holding power equivalent to Well Of Ascension (I'd just say holding WoA, but Preservation and destroying don't mix).
  16. I don't have OCD and I don't have any thing about people touching my stuff. But if somebody redecorated my room I would still go totally Rayse on them. So that's a pretty normal reaction to me, @Quiver. Well, everything depends what "redecorated" means. If I had to move my desk and bed to previous locations and put few things back in their old place, that would be mostly fine. If someone painted the walls with different color and replaced my desk and things of that scope, that's Mr.Odium kicking out Heralds from Damnation cause a Desolation is starting shortly.
  17. Knowledge =/= skill. And the knowledge copperminds offer is short-term, so it means it fades. To learn we need to have long-term knowledge, and still that knowledge is mostly useless without skills needed to apply it. And skill means training, and training means school. And even if there was a way to impart both knowledge and skill onto someone else, arguments can be made that without learning these things personally it's not gonna work great. EDIT: I should probably add that there is a difference between knowing and understanding - I could tell someone a formula and that person could memorize it; but only through learning would that person be able to understand it and know its inner workings, connections and implications.
  18. I think Australia is still not as troublesome as Poland @Delightful Well, I bought White Sand from amazon for $17.something (I was a little too late to get it for $15 ). Shipping to Poland (to my surprise, as amazon shipping costs table told me something different) was about $8. All in all I paid about $7 more than I planed, but it was still less than what I'd pay in one of Polish stores (except the one which I was too late to preorded and God only knows when they will have it again in stock - and I still payed only about $1 more). I was angry that they plan to deliver it in between 5.5 weeks and 13.5 weeks but today they moved the timetable and it's scheduled to ship today (or tomorrow, depending whether it's past midnight in your timezone or not). ETA is now shortened to between 5.5 weeks and 8 weeks. And I think Australia is a much easier delivery target than Poland, so maybe you could get it in about a month?
  19. If I'm understanding everything correctly, @Delightful is in Australia. The store you linked ships only within USA.
  20. I just want to remind everyone that Cognitive Realms isn't just mirrored Physical Realm as you assume with the rivers and oceans. It's just on land there are far more things which make up the "sea" in Cognitive Realm and in Physical in water there are few objects, so the ground in Cognitive Realm isn't flooded. There was a WoB on this.
  21. I'm still trying to figure out how the conversation shifted from women trying to change their men to better suit their expectations to women using subtext without anyone realizing there was a shift. These things are not the same.
  22. Well, the thing is that these alternate technology progresses usually are caused by some kind of discovery. Steampunk usually originates because the discovery of steam engines (and those should be reeeeaally efficient) and the fact that there is no gasoline. Dieselpunk is discovery of diesel engines and no electricity. Magicpunk - magic engines. Et cetera, et cetera. If you want to go realistic and not just slowed down progress (as there are none of the things invented during WWII), you have to get really clever. Industrial revolution could be changed, but the Britain played important role in that, along with France and Belgium (and probably other countries). So the industrial revolution would go probably similarly to how it really went. There is no major turning point (like the discoveries which start prefix-punks) in the States not uniting; I mean, it could slow down the progress, but it wouldn't spin the technology in a whole different direction.
  23. Don't need to, I was still there. They went "I didn't expect that". BTW, that whole sequence is a masterpiece.
