  1. Shoot, I didn't see the defense of Mist by other players that I was expecting which leads me to think that she is good. I'd have thought there would be more pushback if she was an elim. Unfortunately if I change my vote now, it creates a tie. Don't take this the wrong way, but I really hope your an eliminator, Mist.
  2. Ouch! I had the second most posts to straw this game up until last cycle. It was fifty fifty analyses and role play as well. I will give you I disappeared for forty eight hours, but I am back and ready to give you things to analyze... In the morning. I should have been in bed an hour ago. Congrats to everyone who was elevated! My condolences Elandera. I believe in you, though. You have got next turn in the bag for elevations. I am really interested to know which field is so competitive, but it is probably better not to ask. Congrats Walin. Tell us, what is the secret to your meteoric success. Also, are you a skindancer? Also also, I vote you elevate Elandera given the chance. That's just a thought, though.
  3. Okay, I'm back. This cycle was a lot easier to process. I'm sad to see village striker fall to his typical curse, but not especially surprised. I do love the new dead doc mechanic! You can be sure I'll cause havoc in there if I go (so don't send me there?) I don't especially love lynching Mist, but there is some solid evidence against you, friend. Voting with Fura was an interesting choice, and not having a reason doesn't help me not suspect you. All that said, my vote is far from permanent. It might especially change as I go through cycle 2 again. Ninja Kidpen: I don't especially suspect either GodKing or Brightness. I think I see what you're saying. They do work on a team together, but this connection is super obvious. That gets super "I know you know" fast, but even so I doubt they're both bad and as such lynching one does not give us the alignment of the other. I'm close to opening a can of contribution crusade; if only it wasn't so hypocritical. Much more in the morning, but for now Cain walked over to Silber. "I made this just for you" Silber said handing Cain a bowl of something soft and sticky looking. "I know how hard this all must be for you. Your 'Loyal' team falling apart on you!" "And of course, you are sadly not good enough to stop it." That elicited a laugh from Cain. "Come, don't feel so gloomy, try this porridge." He must have misunderstood the chuckle to be saddened. Cain looked up from the porridge(?) to correct Silber and saw his foot disappear into the foliage of a tree. Silber poked his head through a clear spot and said "While you eat you could even tell me what the silver lining of all this is." "Huh, honestly, this is about par for the course through these parts. My first time through we had a group of thirty five. Some fool merchant got in a tizzy thinking some of his goods had been stolen. Got a bloody nose thinking about all the profits he would lose and called down shades on all of us. eight of us survived that first night." He took a bite of the porridge. It wasn't half bad. He even felt better! "I'd guess we lose about ten more before this trip is through and that's if we're all smart about it. How's that for silver lining? You might walk away from this trip." Cain happily continued to eat. Edit: Sorry. I had this ready to go an hour ago, but my computer died. I posted it as soon as It came back on.
  4. Well shoot. Five hours is now six and I only just caught up on Cycle 2. I want to come out with a Drake-esque summary of my thoughts, but that will have to wait until morning. Now I am going back to read this cycle so I can at least do something useful tonight. This should probably be in blue, but I don't want to use excessive blue text, so you are welcome to use any of this inactivity against me.
  5. Gaahh I did not leave enough time to give you the post you deserve. I guess I'll vote for Devotary. Sorry, it looks from my quick skim like it does not give you an extra DP, and you are likely expelled anyway. I do not think I make it back to the University next month anyway, but I will try to pad this out to increase my chances. I do not think we need to bother with killing Bard. An expelled skindancer is a neutered skindancer. He can not target any other player at the moment and I am content to try to find and expel other suspicious players. If you have the money for an assassin at this point I recommend a body guard instead, but you do you. It is interesting to me that we are expelling two or three Edema Ruh this turn. While I do not doubt there are skindancers among the Edema Ruh, it seems like an interesting coincidence to expel half of us in one go. They are also unleveled except for Kynedath who is an E'lir.
  6. sorry everyone. Mother's day ended up being a bigger commitment than I had anticipated. I promise you a hefty post when I get back home in about five hours.
  7. sorry everyone. Mother's day ended up being a bigger commitment than I had anticipated. I promise you a hefty post when I get back home in about five hours
  8. "I will admit it's taking longer to get to the waystop than I had hoped. I assure you your goods will arrive on time. We'll just have to set up a camp and rotate watch." "It'll be a bit less comfortable than most of you are used to, but I warned you we'd have some uneasy nights" "And there will be no killing" he did a double take at Lord. Clothes really? Nevermind blood would doom us all, but his clothes should survive! This was going to be a long four days.
  9. "There's a waystop with a ring of silver." Kendel explained. "We won't be so lucky every night, but if we can make this one we can get some rest." "The trouble is it's intentionally out of the way. We've found it on less than half of the occasions I've made this trek." "It is already getting dark, though. Do you think we should set up camp?" ninja'd by mavet's mutiny
  10. Yeah striker has that effect sometimes. I recommend we keep him around a few cycles, he's pretty astute. Then if he is bad we at least get more out of his lynch. Fair enough. I meant take the lead in the role play. There's room for two more leaders if you want a spot. I am breaking ties because lynches are my best source of information. We don't get nearly as much information if we don't vote with the intent of lynching, so I am skipping the conversation where we try to decide whether we should tie the votes by letting you know I will break it. I'd also like to leave Joe for a while. I disagree it's early for pokes. I thought about putting one in my first post. I don't think any of this will turn into anything though. Many ninjas. Sorry if I repeat something.
  11. "It's only a bit farther." Cain said. He hoped it sounded reassuring. He had made this trip a dozen times, but always they had had someone with more experience. Now he was tied for the most trips with two others in the party and they were switching off leading. "The maps of this area are so poorly drawn." Cain thought. "How am I supposed to find the safe areas with these useless rags. Using a tree as a landmark! We're surrounded by trees!" His leg ached slightly where the pouch kept bouncing against it. Such precious cargo, and so little of it. Then out loud he said "Not to worry, We are looking for clump of three trees bent as if three lightning bolts were striking the same spot. Then it is only another half kilometer west." Hello to all the new people! Welcome to SE. Also Welcome back those of you who have been gone for a while. I hope you don't mind me taking the lead of the party for a bit. There really isn't much to discuss in the form of roles so I'll go through what I see quickly. I recommend using the med kit every turn until it is gone. I'm guessing maybe five of these. I recommend not using the knife until we are down to less than ten players. I doubt there are more than three. I bet at least one traitor has silver dust. There are maybe three of these. If they do, that player will be the one to submit every kill. Not much we can do about that because they can't be roleblocked. The rest of us get to try to guess who is bad, so voting is very important. Please don't die to inactivity. Also I will break any tied lynches. Unless It would kill me to do so. Happy hunting!
  12. Isn't it beautiful?! Devotary, you will be missed. Edit I second TGK on Magnus Archives. It is brilliant!
  13. Yeah the lie was not a misconception. Easy call for the GMs. True. I will give you that targeted mommets that sympathists make can be useful. Especially the death mommets that you can make based off of who attacked a person. The mommets I am not afraid of are Devi's. I stand by cheating her both as a statement against moneylenders and because you can twist the meaning of the game as the opportunity to sell a mommet of yourself as a good. That goes regardless of field, but not class as an Edema Ruh is forbidden from selling their Devi mommet. (maybe a little salty). That is a bit harder for the GMs to call. If you trust someone and do not list them in your trusted list, it is really borderline as to whether that is a lie. You start by saying you will start listing people you do not suspect. You list two people you do not suspect. I do not think you claimed the list was complete. Also, if I say I suspect Kynedath at the start of a turn and say I do not suspect Kynedath at the end of a turn in a private message, was either one necessarily a lie? I may have changed my mind, or I may have intended to mislead the thread, or I may have intended to mislead my contact. I do not know how picky the GMs will be about us claiming to be suspicious. Ninja Bard Sorry, I do not mean to throw off your role play. I am perfectly happy for your character to be the one who set the fire. I intentionally never admitted to setting it because I was framing Burnt. (sorry not sorry, Bryn). hahaha yes this. I really do not see what other lie you could have told in thread. If you were dishonest in a private message, that is totally different.
  14. I am awake and ready to go at it again. You all have had some really good analysis since I have been gone. I will do what I can to respond with my thoughts to each, but if I miss something let me know. Thank you for the analysis, Coda! I appreciate it. As for this line, I can guarantee you trust me more than you should because I have not done anything super alignment indicative yet. Luckily for both of us, I am not a skindancer so your trust is not wasted. Maybe I can help with this. You see, I know something Bard lied about. I was happy for him to to take the blame, too. After all, my action the turn before was to frame someone. Kendel set the fire. The action was specifically to set a fire in the archives and frame Burnt. I figured it would make for some fun role play and not come to much. Then Young Bard took the fall for it and that was even easier. If the fact he lied last month is the determining factor in lynching him, here is your explanation. If the possible wounded gazelle gambit is the reason we are lynching him, I do not think the science bears that out either. If low activity is the reason we expel him (below the radar or otherwise), I can see an argument. If we are expelling him for being the first El'The, I have argued we do this twice already. If we are voting on him for putting two votes on me... Ah screw it. Bard Bard. More to come
  15. Good question. The answer I provide is: "I think so?" The pragmatist in me says we still just need to expel everyone and then kill whoever is left at the school. That way we ensure that the skin dancers are killed or expelled and part of the village is still alive. Even so, it hurts my soul to vote for people I do not suspect to try to remove them from the game. Someone made a good point to me about why this plan is flawed, but I do not remember what it was. Oh, right. When we are expelled, we lose the ability to target current students at the university. Which is a solid point. Cycle one I advocated for expelling all the nobles so they could use their money in Imre, but I realized the Vintish Nobles ended up losing more money than they saved because their family is paying for school anyway and they can recoup money from tuition by posting. All that to get back to where I was before this post. I think we are trying to expel people? The more important information comes not from expelling someone, but from who is voting for whom and for what reason... which we get without actually expelling someone. Except the information is less when we do not actually intend to expel them. So yes. We want to expel someone, but if no one gets expelled we will not be disappointed? I don't know. Someone else think for a minute. I need a break.
  16. Kendel watched Shard hurry off between two of the buildings bobbing and weaving to avoid any further onslaught. He laughed and ducked as another projectile flew past his head. He quickly packed some snow and hurled his return fire. This called for strategy. An hour later Kendel had constructed a small wall out of snow with his tree as a cornerstone. The snow from the last storm had drifted up against the buildings giving the combatants plenty of ammunition to work with. Kendel dug in, but the other student clearly had been in the area for some time and knew the good spots for sniping and hiding. Come to think of it, he had not heard from the other student in some time. Maybe he had left. Or fallen asleep some where. Kendel carefully poked his head out of his one wall fort. He did not see the other student, but he did see Shard heading back toward the main walk through the center of the university. "Maybe he is in a better mood." Kendel thought. "Worth the risk even if he is not." He decided Kendel heaved a snow ball in Shard's direction intentionally high and leading him a little to the right. It would be better just to get his attention than to pelt him again. @anyone do you want to build a snowball fight? I have poor enough aim to hit you wherever you are. Hmm, you make some interesting points. I was kind of living the double standard of I want my votes to be used to expel skindancers and I do not want votes to expel any one. I admit it was not so much that I misspoke as that I switched between the elim game and free for all game from one breath to the next. I was not going to use both of my votes spread out the complaints, but I was expecting everyone else to do it for me. Quoting is weird so I'll go through your comments by numbering my responses 1 It was my intention at the time not to spread out my votes 2 I chose to not double vote on Elandera because I was not actually suspicious of her. I just wanted the tuition reduction and I though she could take a one jot addition for me to get a 3 jot discount (yes that is terribly unfair and inequitable, but welcome to SE) 2a. I appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt, but it really was not about keeping a low profile. It was about getting a tuition reduction. (and maybe a little about not charging her two jots for giving me three.) 3 You are correct and I stand by this. I just did not hope to expel Elandera that turn, so I did not place both votes. 4 You know, it might be a direct contradiction of my first sentence. By not spreading my votes, I should have doubled down and made a lynch happen on one or two people. People that already had votes on them. That was what the first half of the post implies I was in favor of doing. However, I just came off a game where I was lynched cycle one and I am glad for a game where that was very unlikely. 5. 'Doing their job for them' refers to the fifteen or so other players who had not yet voted that turn. I did not want to give the idea that they could not vote and it would not be noticed. I called them out by name later in the turn. I think I did consider splitting my votes to make sure no one was expelled on turn one, but then I realized that if we agreed that was the correct way to go, the responsibility falls on a lot more people than just me. 6. More of the same 7 I just really wanted them to vote. Votes are data that we know how to distill into information. (Also it was fun and rhymed.) I'm happy for any other questions you have. I am an expert on my own opinions.
  17. You've got me on the edge of my seat here. I am dying to know what my posts seem to be. I hope it's "things a villager would say" but the context doesn't make that seem likely. Aww you thought my advice was useful? Thank you! Not sure I have a defense here except to argue my fairly basic advice is NAI and mostly just for the tuition reduction. Most of my posts have been for that. I'm not sure I understand this one. Or maybe you didn't? I stand by that I will probably not use my two votes on two different people. That is even more emphasized now that most of us are in agreement that spreading the votes won't help us. If I use both of my votes they are going on the same person as evidenced by my votes on Rathmaskal last turn. I wonder if I worded something weird that made it sound like I would only use one vote each turn which wasn't my intention. I meant I would only vote for one person each turn, but would be willing to use both votes on that one person. I can respect that. I'm just glad you are willing to do the work of going back through that mountain of posts to find some suspicions. I'm not even too worried about the tuition, because we're on a weekend again so I should have enough RP to get me through a minor tuition hike. I just want you to know what I actually meant. "First off, my name is not Chad. It's Shard. What about you?" Shard said Drat. Kendel had been so close. Maybe if he had stuck with Shad, Shard would not have been so upset. Then again Shard seemed pretty determined to be upset. "Second, I am already going to be late for my exam because I forgot a pen, so a few extra minutes won't affect me that much seeing as I'm now going to miss the entire exam!" Kendel bit back his sarcastic comment. "And shouldn't you be studying for exams right now, someplace where you can't annoy those of us who are trying to actually do well in school?" Shard accused. That one hurt a bit. Of course Shard could have no way of knowing that Kendel could not afford to go to school this term. Especially since Kendel still went to classes. In that sea of students, the masters had no idea which students had paid and which ones had not. The information was still just as good. Plus Kendel did not have to take tests if he was not enrolled which suited him just fine. Finished with his tirade, Shard turned to stomp off. "Whoa, wait, Shard! I am sorry for hitting you with a snowball... and misremembering your name." He jogged to catch up with Shard. "Hey if it helps, I have got an extra pen you could have. I don't know where you are staying, but I can save you a little time at least." He pulled a pen out of his pocket. It was not a nice pen by any standard, but the ink worked so he hoped it would be enough. "A peace offering." Kendel said as he handed it to Shard. "I'm Kendel by the way. Aren't you in my DUCK!"
  18. Kendel must have fallen asleep reading because when he came too, the musician had gone. It looked like he had absently read about four pages after what he remembered and figured he should go home where he could get some real rest. He left the towers and took a shortcut through a courtyard to get back to the main thoroughfare through campus. *Poff* Something wet and cold slugged Kendel in the shoulder. A bit dazed, He looked around for the origin of the sudden interruption. About fifteen yards away stood a student looking guilty but pleased. Kendel grinned. This was not a part of his plan for the afternoon, but he could stand to lighten up a bit. Kendel took cover behind a tree, scooping up some snow and packing it into a tight ball. He was not the best aim, but he could probably handle this guy in a snowball fight. Emerging from behind the tree, Kendel saw his trajectory was blocked by a student who looked far too busy to join in the fight. He recognized him from somewhere. Probably some class he was supposed to be in right now, but could not quite remember his name. Shad? maybe? no Chad. That was it. As Chad passed, Kendel readied his sneak attack. His assailant wouldn't even see it coming. He lobbed the tightly packed orb and watched in horror as Chad inexplicably turn back and started running into the path. *WHAP* The snowball exploded on Chad's face knocking him to the ground. "ohohoho" Kendel suppressed a laugh not sure what to do. When Chad finally stood up, he looked spitting angry. Kendel tried his best to look innocent, but he wasn't fooling anyone. "Calm down, Chad, I didn't throw that snowball at you! I threw it at him!" Kendel explained loudly suppressing a smile. "If you're so late for an exam, why did you turn around. I totally would have missed you!" I hope you don't mind me joining. It'll be several hours before Haelbarde will be back to role play, so I thought we might be able to get this snowball fight under way before then. I am also happy to give you a pen as a result of this conversation if you are still hoping to make it to that test. @Experience
  19. Good times News that a student named Bryn had started a fire in the archives spread quickly. Kendel was lucky to have missed it. He had left the library only a short time before the fire was discovered with a book on music theory he had checked out for some light reading between classes. It would have been a shame to have been destroyed as he had found it near the place where Bryn reportedly had started the fire. Ah well. At least he had saved one book. As he thought of her name, if you switched around the letters a little it even sounded like 'burn.' Of course a student like that would try to destroy a library. Especially one with books that old. They had lit up like they were thirsty for the fire. Opting not to return home, he weaved through campus to the twisted towers. He was surprised to find someone else using the piano... which was fine. The pianist was doing a decent job despite the specific idiosyncrasies of the instrument. The lobby of the twisted towers still had a few paper birds lying about as no one knew what to do with them. It felt wrong to throw them away. As if by doing so, they would be throwing away the life and sanity they represented. He moved a few off of a chair and began to read, enjoying the music in the background.
  20. Well played Straw. You are in the lead for now, but I am coming for you. I am surprised that the GM's are beating me in post count, but I will attribute that to there being two of them contributing. Even so, they are almost winning in most posts and running a game at the same time. That is pretty impressive. They are also the most consistent from cycle to cycle. I suppose I have sufficiently poked Rathmaskal. But I am going to leave one vote for now until I have a better place to put it. I absolutely understand that feeling. At the very least, you have good odds of being elevated despite not going to the university. That's what ended up happening for me. It is a little rough not attending the university every turn. I will still have some trouble going next term and I am second. in number of posts this game. *grumble in straw's direction* All I can recommend at this point is a lot of practice at the Eolian and living in the Grey Man so you can get the practice twice. I do not know how good your musical score is, but depending on what you got, it might be wise to practice a few times. Oh, to answer your question: I am guessing that people going into multiple fields are being elevated at a faster pace because it is easier to get lucky in one of five fields than it is to get lucky in one of one field. Also, the linguistics field pairs really well with almost any other field so whoever is elevated there will probably look to fill out their suite with other neat abilities. I imagine it like choosing between being a mistborn or a twin born. A mistborn has a set of really cool powerful abilities that are well defined. A twin born has fewer abilities, but the combination creates something unique that can be leveraged in a way no one would see coming. I will see if I can come up with with an example from this rule set later.
  21. Wow, there are six fields that no one really cares about! I am very honored by my elevation et cetera et cetera, but I had to drop a lot of Elevation Points to get into it. I am not upset that there are six Re'Lar as much as I am baffled. I thought I had chosen a field that not everyone would want, so it surprises me that people are being elevated twice in the fields I thought would be more heavily contested. Of course I realize that most of the Re'lar did not get elevated in the same field twice. I would be surprised if more than one of them did. I'm just more surprised the masters chose the same six people two turns in a row. As much as I'd like to have a specific skill set, I may have to start spreading Elevation Points although it will be nice to be able to take an action. Incidentally, Private Message spying seems less useful right now. Even I only engaged in a handful of private messages last turn and I usually am all over that. I have had to use the time I would normally spend on private messages doing quality thread participation. What a strange thought! I am going to vote for Rathmaskal Rathmaskal @Rathmaskal. The rumor is that if you say a name three times, the person will appear. I realize my vote is not super based on suspicion, but I could claim he is flying under the radar... nope, it is just some poke votes. Kendel returned empty handed. Spending time in that god forsaken gambling pit was foolish. When the dice had revealed only twelve sides in his hands, he was sure he could not lose. He was wrong. It turned out he could lose quite aggressively. The den offered to take the shirt off his back if he wanted to try to win his money back, which was very kind of them, but he just was not feeling lucky. Downcast, he wandered through Imre. Its bright displays and novelty shops no longer enchanting. He would not have the opportunity to impress a musician today, so he walked the long road back to the university. As he walked he felt something bounce in his pocket. He had no money, so what was it. He pulled out a piece of candy. Well, at least it is not all bad. He unwrapped it and popped the candy into his mouth. The sweet flavor filled him with hope and gave him the strength to return to the university. Even if he could not study, he could still learn. Besides, it had been too long since he had played a piano.
  22. All items are available right now at the apothecary. The contracts are fun but mostly flavor. Interestingly to me someone is offering a contract for anyone who votes for an Edema Ruh. I'm kind of tempted to take it. I'm not sure if someone placed that last cycle or if the GM's are trying to tell us something. I agree that the information we are missing out on is important and I will join with the throng of others in voting to expel starting next turn. Hmm, the people who are left are the ones I would not consider voting for. I am trusting DeTess and Araris more after their suggestion of expelling people and I already had a village read on Xino. Experience and Coda have already been on the horns, so I'm cool with them not getting voted for either. I'll hold off placing a second vote on people who I might be more suspicious of, but I'm also not going to spread the votes out any further. This. That was a good topic. What shall we debate next? It feels like we have been taking a page and a half to debate each idea and we have about reached that.
  23. I appreciate this discussion on truth seers. It is one I've been very interested in since I first saw it in quick fix forty two. The issue for me is playing mafia games is an opportunity to lie about things that have no consequences. I am honest outside of the game. Some would say brutally so. But lying here gets my adrenaline going so I do it as much as I think I can get away with. It has bit me a few times, too. I think it was Zillah who said something like "I think Elkanah is village, but I in no way trust him." Wise words. I am happy to confess to all truth seers that I am not a skindancer. I do not mind other people using that as evidence to prove their innocence. I like it for the same reason I like day 1 lynches. It increases information and it comes down to drawing lines using patterns to figure out who is lying. It also adds a complexity to the game that you have to decide if you trust the seer. Even if there are two seers that confirm each other, in a game this big we still do not know if they are both village. All this as a way to say that I am totally fine with people using linguistics however they like. I will warn you that any scan on me will show I have lied at least one time in any turn. I recommend you use it on someone who plays these games more honestly. Edit: purple
