  1. Well that WoB implies (very heavily) that the massive collection was what caused the spiking, so technically not the same thing, but effectively the same since the one is the cause of the other. Thanks for answering.
  2. What are they? I've read a couple WoB about them, but I don't know where the term came from, or how we knew to ask about them. Is it a Secret History thing? I'm waiting for the compilation, and don't have easy access to a copy. I don't really know any hardcore sanderfans to borrow a copy. I know there is the one natural one, that shardpools appear to qualify, and that they provide easier access to the CR. Nothing else really.
  3. Agreed. Have an upvote. It did require rotating the chart though. (it would still be the same scale, but harder to notice) You made a lock for your screen? BONDSMITH ALERT! lol
  4. Is it Kaladin shocked that Shallan has a Blade in the chasms? Edit: Ninja'd by Daniyah and that one makes more sense...
  5. I agree. You wouldn't do this in the street. I would do it facing a window that can see a sunset. Watch the sun go down, then wait for it to be about to set again and stop storing. Skipping a day wouldn't be too bad, and at 95% (1/20th) a 24 hour day would take a little over an hour for you. What I'm curious about is how it would affect storing other attributes. I assume you would store them slower because you are actually storing them for less time. This makes me like the idea of being a steel compounder less. Compounding your ability to move through time= you die sooner. Steel compounders are still the strongest Twinborn by far though. (if you don't count my theory about gold shadows)
  6. Of course there is a limit, but that WoB was talking about making yourself multiplicatively slower to store faster, which isn't how it works. The limits on how fast you can store are more about what your body/mind can handle. You can't store a ton of strength because you would lose the ability to pump blood to your head. Or even breathe. I recall seeing something that around 50% is the limit for strength before you hit heart failure. Feruchemical steel sounds like it can store at a higher rate than others because storing time doesn't kill you. You still can't store 100%, but I could see in the 90-95 range being possible. Brandon appeared to mention 75% off the cuff, and implied that it could be really any thing that didn't get too close to 100%. Anything past 95%, though, and you wouldn't be able to perceive well if someone did something. They could walk right past you and you might not see the blur of them. The difference in charge you get at storing 95 vs 96 percent is negligible, but the amount you could see would be significantly different. You would only see about 80% of what you could see at 95%. 90-95 sounds like about the max for Feruchemical steel for safety reasons.
  7. Ehhh. Didn't like it. See my point on Douche ex Machina (pun still intended). That series did not follow Sanderson's laws on worldbuilding, specifically the one where he talks about how magic should do an amount of work in your plot directly correlating with how well the reader understands it. Now granted, Sanderson came up with that idea long after TLotR was written, but that's irrelevant. The magic in that story should barely light a campfire for how well it is explained. It always irked me that Frodo asked Gandalf why magic couldn't do something more to solve their problem, and he said there were opposing forces or something blocking him, but he fought the Balrog just fine. The whole thing felt like he just wrote himself into a corner repeatedly and had to pull Gandalf or eagles out of his butt to save theirs. Blasting the Balrog with a fireball? Fine! Teleporting Frodo even to the edge of Mordor still outside Sauron's direct sphere of influence? Nope! cuz that'd break my plot! I read it back in junior high, and saw its massive flaws even then. I would like it even less now. There is just no tension since you know nothing can really go wrong- Gandalf will show up and save them... again. And again. And again. People have told me to go read the Silmarillion to understand the magic better, but that is like having to read Secret History to understand any of what happened in Mistborn. I'm not going to accept having to read what is basically a supplement to understand a core series that should stand on its own. Most people haven't heard of the Silmarillion (is that even how that's spelled?), so I shouldn't need it. I don't care that it revolutionized the fantasy genre, that doesn't actually have anything to do with its quality, only its popularity. Gah! That was way longer than I wanted it to be. Stupid pet peeves... Now I wouldn't say monotheistic fantasy can't be good, it is just much more difficult and overused.
  8. Based on this, I can see Feruchemical steel being one of the easiest things to charge. It doesn't affect your metabolism or physiology, so you could maybe store like 95% without it killing you. You could one evening start hardcore storing and go all night and through the next day then sleep the next night. You would feel like maybe an hour or so had gone by, but you would have a huge store of speed to use. An entire day has passed though, so things with that could suck. And Sazed experiencing a sensation of being slow makes sense. I'm having trouble putting this into words, but he does have an environment to compare to. He can watch the effects of his actions happen in superspeed. He doesn't experience it mentally, but he can perceive that more time is going on outside him, so he feels normal, but he understands that things aren't the same. Like watching a 3D movie in fast forward. On the other end, if you tap really hard, if your 'mental speed' wasn't increased as well, you would just smack into things like a doofus because you can't react. There may be something to the effect of less mental speed is associated with it, but a fair chunk HAS to be stored or tapping wouldn't be nearly as useful. That was pretty poorly worded, but a good analogy is escaping me. Maybe I'm storing too much zinc right now...
  9. Ach I'm aching now. I would like to see more Nightblood-esque objects that are more... conventionally useful. Like an awakened plow, or Awakened plate. Or an awakened toenail clipper XD ...Nightblood is too dangerous and unstable to use a lot.
  10. I think this is a good theory. Your explanation of storing time wasn't easy to understand for me at least, so I'm going to try clarifying it. You are storing the time in which you are moving. You lose time to storing and then condense that time into a burst of experience that essentially manifests itself as superspeed. It is virtually the same as using a speed bubble, the description of the effect is also really similar. A person tapping Feruchemical steel is a blur of motion, a person in a speed bubble is a blur too, though some of that is distortion from the bubble's edge. Inside a speed bubble, you think 'faster' relative to people outside the bubble, but your mental speed isn't affected. You are literally experiencing more time. You age faster inside that bubble, you move faster, and you think faster. This is different from storing age in that age changes you physically to that age, while Feruchemical steel changes how you go through time. Does anyone like this explanation? @Magestar in particular.
  11. Hey... Wierd idea. Since Roshar is smaller, could it have a liquid core? That's still magnetic? That could do funky stuff to weather too. And maybe stuff with axial wobble (which is what I meant by axial tilt earlier I guess). I don't know enough about celestial objects to say. Help.
  12. Actually, your idea of a pseudo atium duel is probably pretty accurate, if you aren't in the camp that Cultivation has given up. The only thing I would say is that there are so insanely many variables once you bring in the meddling of 2 shards that it doesn't matter anymore. You can see the future, and shape it. On the other hand, you can't see every single possibility even for a year out. It's infinite. You can only get a general idea of what happens if you do this sort of thing vs that sort. You can tell generally what's a good idea, and some events will keep popping up and you will know more about that event.
  13. Nope he totally is. Coppermind http://coppermind.net/wiki/Roshar Mobile sucks! Roshar's seasons are somewhat random. My bet is that there is something really funky going on with its axial tilt. Edit: apparently urls don't want to work for me now, just changed it.
  14. Not what I meant, but more trailers is good too. I meant that the WoK trailer should maybe have WoR scenes in it. Like the disadvantaged duel or Shallan doing something magicky maybe.
  15. Ach sad I missed this party. I just can't help post this bit: @zeppomarks I know what your potential corrupted devotion would be... Yandere!
  16. Yeah he is definitely using feruchemy. Didn't say he wasn't, only guessing that he didn't need to, it just made his pre-existing ability stronger. He probably used a bit of the bead to make himself mistborn. Also, I don't think he is a feruchemist. Its Lerasium, so there's a decent chance anyone can store in it just as anyone can burn it. I get the feeling that his immortality is very soft, as you put it. The only reason he is still alive is because he hasn't lived all those years. Time dilation. Becoming an Elantrian would still be useful to negate the necessity of time dilation. ... Are you being deliberately obtuse? You clearly understand the topic that Hoid is becoming an Elantrian via Lerasium as shown by your first comment (that was deliberately insulting btw, I'm just nice enough to laugh it off... Even gave you an upvote), and then this post about him going back to Sel to try again? Poor Zeppo makes a highly constructive comment, and then you contradict yourself to tell him he's got to be wrong. Which is it? Do you believe he could and maybe has used the bead to become an Elantrian, as you originally said, or is this quote that completely ignores the premise of the thread your opinion? Either way, I'm getting fed up with you being contrary to literally every post nearly anyone makes regardless of whether it is consructive, funny, or just plain old fact. I can understand nitpicking. This isn't that. Have a plethora of downvotes. Whether you are right or not about Hoid not being an Elantrian yet because his hair is an illusion is irrelevant. I agree that he isn't for the same illusions reason, but talking about him going back to Sel makes so little sense in context that I can interpret it as nothing but confrontationalism. *goes off to watch anime to calm down before I say something I'll regret*
  17. Hmm interesting theory. You still don't need it either way with this setup. And after it all is done, you could maybe purify your mind the same way you corrupted it. It might remove the powers though. Not being totally insane after all this would be nice though. This gold shadowmelding could get you a lot of cool stuff. Multiple boons/banes, the spiritual connection to Elantris necessary to become an Elantrian (I doubt it could make you into one directly, though who knows), turn you into a master swordsman, and give you great knowledge of fabrial science and awakening commands. I don't think gifting yourself Breath would be possible though, or making you into an Awakener. There are clear limitations, they are just relatively negligible... I really think this will work, and is easily the most powerful legitimate idea I've seen.
  18. Yeah, but we haven't seen any modern Radiants with their own Plate yet. We will most likely, but we don't know its source yet. And like said in one of the other posts, you only get the cognitive from gold. You would use Feruchemical gold compounding to 'heal' your spiritweb to your cognitive standard. I kind of assumed the Nahel bond attached the spren to your web, and that was why they couldn't get far from you. So your healing your spirit would actually be growing a spren. Maybe that's totally off base. That is why it would require some serious healing. That's a lot of Investiture conversion to make multiple Shardblades. Spren are worth their weight in gold, I guess you could say... AYYYYYYY! XD
  19. I can accept that. There was a lot of rule of cool at first because cool rules! On the other hand, these later posts are well thought out. This is just a question for Brandon at this point. On the other hand, do you agree you could gain a Nahel bond with this? Or potentially multiple bonds so you can get more Surges/Blades. I doubt you could get all 10 surges. Some of the orders would conflict- Honorspren and Highspren don't mix. There would be other conflicts as well with different oaths. When you are trying to 'do what is right' and 'follow the law' at the same time, you will just kill one or more of your spren. I see absolutely no reason why you wouldn't be able to get 2 or 3 bonds. I know of no WoB saying you can't be a member of multiple orders. I can agree that under normal circumstances, it is impossible. I don't think you could exhibit the traits necessary to attract a spren in sufficient quantity to attract more than one type. This hack would get around that. You have to make sure you follow the oaths you make though, which could be a problem. He can save on Light by Allomantically healing though. Plus gold is useful in other ways anyway. This would still be a total pain though. This would take years of research and practice, and finally just doing it would take a long time too. Then the side effects of playing with your mind that much would not be pretty. DID at the least. I don't know that it would be worth it, but that would be one TOUGH cookie at the end. Ignoring surges, having multiple spren would be ridiculous. Have one manifest as a breastplate, one helm, and one as a weapon of choice. Better than Plate- it doesn't interfere with surges, and it is even harder to get through. You have Light for the physical perks, so losing out on Plate is negligible. Plus you are a gold compounder. It would literally take a nuke to kill you.
  20. Fair point about the scholars. I hadn't thought of them. On the other hand, don't you think a bonded spren would end up becoming a shardshield or something in a moment of extreme stress to protect their bonded human? Or that spren scholars would have explored the limits of the bond and discovered that they could manifest in that manner? The spren could already bond with the Listeners anyway, why would they look to see if there was yet another way they could bond with Listeners? (or humans for that matter) Maybe the spren originally thought that because the humans weren't native to Roshar, they couldn't bond with them in a meaningful way. Then they just stuck to that tradition until they saw Honorblades and were like 'hey wait, maybe these humans aren't useless after all.' I have no reason to believe a Vessel would have told them. When has a Vessel told anyone anything useful? Sazed explained a couple things after his Ascension, but by no means did he say much about even allomancy and feruchemy, let alone Hemalurgy. He didn't give the people the tech they didn't know about either. He is disappointed that people haven't discovered the radio yet, but he isn't telling. On Roshar, by your logic, Cultivation would have warned everyone that the desolations were not over. It took until a few years before they were back for the Stormfather to start showing visions to relevant people. I do not believe the Shards would have told anyone anything about their magic systems. There are simply more questions than answers right now. We can only guess. The spren scholars simultaneously kinda break both our arguments, but one of us has to be correct here, right? It seems like a pretty binary proposition. And I'm sure Brandon has no problem putting misinformation in the chapter headings. Mistborn has been one long stream of half truths so far.
  21. I hadn't considered melding with malatium shadows. That would twist you even more. The ultimate case of disociative identity disorder here we come! Back to gold shadows though, I don't agree. You aren't getting a different manifestation of investiture, just different luck from the same manifestation(s). It is the same thing as getting a different strength Breath after you are born on Nalthis. You couldn't do this with normal gold shadows, you would have to go back to shadows that differ from the moment you are conceived. That would require savantism and maybe a duralumin spike, but I can totally see it as possible. It's not as if you are trying to get a Nahel bond out of the deal (although maybe you could get these too if you go live on Roshar for a few years). The only things I can't see you getting is becoming an Elantrian, aquiring Breath, and powers we haven't read enough about like sand mastery. Other manifestations are more of a stretch, but I can totally see a gold/gold Twinborn being able to make themselves Fullborn.
  22. I can see a reading of it that interprets it as they know what's up, but I don't think it is the case. If it were, they wouldn't have decided that stormform was a good idea. I think that is shown well by them thinking it is a betrayal... that makes no sense. They didn't stop forming bonds with the Listeners. The spren basically just entered a new business relation. The listeners didn't even have a monopoly on them in the first place. 'The spren betrayed us, they bonded with that chull over there!' For your second point, I understand that Nahel bonding was possible as soon as H/C invested, but none occurs until after the Heralds were created. Then the spren were like hey that's cool, maybe these other humans can do this too if we go help them. BoM spoilers perhaps the same thing is going on with the spren. Until they think they can bond with the Listeners, they can't actually do it. Which makes a ton of sense anyway seeing as they are Cognitive entities, they need to slightly change their Cognitive aspect to be able to do it. Brandon has said that everyone on Roshar would tell you it is impossible, not that it can't be done. Besides all that, there isn't anything different about them now that would allow it. The Listeners have always been what they are. I don't think anything has changed to let them get a Nahel bond. They were always able, they just didn't know it.
  23. XD when you said 'can you feel it?' I was like 'coming? EMPIRE!' Have you considered using stuff from WoR as well? I don't remember anything in it from that. I have always liked trailers that have 2nd season stuff that is awesome but makes no sense.
  24. Well, you mentioning that made me wonder what 'meat' the spren are getting out of this is. The answer: Stormlight or the bond itself. Either works. Surgebinders have a better bond and use a LOT more Light. And this quote is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. It is the blank look. "Bendalloy? What's that?" to "Listener Radiants? Airsick lowlander!" Just because they don't believe it is possible doesn't make it so. My point literally was addressing things like this.
