  1. So I was rereading WoR, and I saw something that has bothered me for a while, but I hadn't really thought about deeply. Before Kaladin says his next Words, he hears Syl and the Stormfather talking to each other. That shouldn't be possible if she was actually dead. This presents to me two possibilities, both of which are intriguing. The first is that she wasn't totally dead in the first place, but the Stormfather was deliberately keeping her away from his so that he wouldn't have access to his powers. I think this is more likely, but I want my other idea to be true more. The other idea is that she was actually revived before he said the words, and for whatever reason (the Stormfather holding her back, most likely) she couldn't get to him immediately. If the second case is true, then we have something very interesting going on here. She was revived, not by the Words, but by Kaladin's determination to do something about the assassination, even if he didn't fully realize what he was doing at first. This would mean that she was revived by Intent, not by action. That would be a really cool twist. That would also have ramifications for the potential Adolin Blade revival arc. Is there something that I missed here? I would like to know.
  2. Fair enough about the Razor, but it goes both ways. That razor is a two edged sword. The fact is that Lerasium can be burned by anyone (potentially, it may only apply to Scadrians and maybe Yolish peoples). The other known fact of it is that it rewrites Spiritwebs to Mistborn when burned by default, but could be used for other effects theoretically. That is all we know about what it does. Everything else is supposition, but I think that my theory that it could be used to become an Elantrian is solid. Anything about its use Feruchemically is guesswork based on cryptic WoBs that imply it can be used to store Hoid's special 'luck.' I staunchly believe that if that was all it stored, that would be far too convenient for Hoid. That implies that it stores multiple things, and that fits with the theme of one or all. It may be it only stores one thing, and Hoid burned the Lerasium to become a Feruchemist, and is using nicrosil to store his luck. It is probably a more innate Investiture, so it may be easily stored and tapped like other abilities.
  3. Alright, I typed a reply, but it didn't post, so I am just now getting back to this. Silly internet. The problem with what you are saying is that you are saying you can't use Lerasium feruchemically because they aren't a feruchemist, but Elend used it Allomantically, and he was not an Allomancer. Occam's razor, as you brought it in, suggests to me that the simplest explanation for the facts is that anyone can use Lerasium feruchemically. Why should it be different Allomantically vs Feruchemically? The difference between nicrosil and Lerasium is that nicrosil stores Investiture. It can store powers and such, but I am saying Lerasium stores anything. It would make an anymind. If it is something you can identify as potentially storable, you can store it. It would of course just happen to be able to store the 16+ things the other metals can, but also stuff like size (density change), skills, and perhaps even body parts.
  4. Except... Burning Lerasium is what gives you the ability to burn all metals. You have to have the ability to burn it first. That ability is inherent to everyone on Scadrial, and possibly everyone. Probably anyone with Connection to Preservation. That heavily implies that for the same reason, you can use it feruchemically with a Connection to Preservation. CUE FLASH OF INSPIRIATION! Burning Lerasium gives you the ability to burn anything. Atium can spike anything, so maybe Lerasium can store anything! That includes Hoid's special luck.
  5. It's just like the Well if this is the case. Hidden right in plain sight so that people hunting for it elsewhere will never find it. You don't need guards for something nobody knows about. Worldhoppers would know, but they will get what they want done anyway, with or without guards.
  6. By asking Brandon questions about it at signings and events. Look up Theoryland and have at it. Lots of WoT stuff there, though, so it's not very... Organized. It's the database where we store a fair number of the WoBs (word of Brandon) that we have gotten. A spiritweb is a name we use for the soul of a person. It is made of Investiture, exists in the Spiritual Realm, and is the 'web' of Connections you have with people, Shards, and concepts. There is more to it, but that is a basic explanation.
  7. It is finished. In its current state. You don't pass, obviously. Your bane is that you are forever wondering what if, especially in regards to your thesis. I wish for the location of the Pits, and transportation to them.
  8. Interesting... I just took her for a 'normal' loony. It could be a red herring, but considering that Pattern is highly observant with patterns, and isn't interested as much by basic ones, this could have some merit.
  9. I agree it's not random, but it is more than just refraction on entering a sphere. The bullet isn't treated like a light particle entering a prism, though it is similar. I could maybe accept that there are small 'ripples' in the bubble so it is like a prism that is shifting slightly. I think it more likely that it is semirandom, like a computer's rng is 'random.'
  10. My two cents... The way you just described it sounds more like refraction. it isn't refracting the trajectory. You could shoot the exact same spot and have it go deflect different ways. I'll see if I can find it, but there is the WoB about watching for what happens when something hits the edge of a speed bubble. This is guessed (though not confirmed) to be related to FTL, so I doubt it is simple refraction. Back on the spear topic, it would be the same as when you are inside a train that passes through a bubble. The spear would be 'part of you,' so it would function in the same manner as people inside the train. It would still be 'in the bubble,' even though several feet of it are sticking out of the bubble and into someone's face. This would be pretty OP. You could just stab people that are outside the bubble faster than they could defend against it.
  11. Hello and welcome to the Shard. You can introduce yourself over in the introductions thread. But have a lovely upvote for your first post either way.
  12. Do we even know for sure if the Heralds are actually human? They 'die' and go to Braize. Dead spren are highly reminicent of Hoed. The Heralds are broken. They appear to be obsessing over something. Taln is repeating his mantra of preparation over and over like a really long winded Hoed. All these connect in my head, but I'm not sure what to make of it.
  13. Check out @sheep's art. It's solid. Not my favorite, but accurate to the book descriptions as far as I can tell. It's better than I can do though, so I won't judge too harshly
  14. Avoiding spoilers here with ambiguous language. Speaking of creating new spren from new religions... Survivorism. Nuff sed. On that note, does that mean that if there was created some powerful survivorspren, would the Survivor's cognitive shadow meld with it automatically? Easier than normal? Not at all? I consider this thread officially highjacked! Back to topic (sorta). Would this survivorspren be bondable for Bondsmiths?
  15. If you wanted that to be more apparent (I watched that show a lot and didn't pick up the reference) you should have colored the words the way the show did. Green for red and red for green.
  16. That wasn't the issue. It was about when on Roshar's timeline he showed up-- before or after the Recreance.
  17. I have been trying to think of a good way to buff up a Forgery for a while. My best guess would be to cover it with modified AonRaos. Forgery is obviously not the answer if you haven't hacked the magic. Now I want to see a Breath fueled Forgery. On the other hand, if a Radiant went to Sel, a Forgery could probably change what order they belong to.
  18. Yes, this is partially true, but it only matters when the item is broken in regards to how the Investiture is distributed to the new pieces. If it were as you say, then a metalmind would never be able to resist a Shardblade, but it is theoretically possible IIRC (searched for a WoB for a while, but turned up nothing). This suggests to me that the Identity of the object matters in this case. The full force of it's Investiture is brought to bear to defend itself from being damaged. Even if it takes a thousand pounds of fully Invested metal (a very high estimate), it is possible to resist Shardblades with a metalmind. On your point about the Bands having some special effect... No they don't. They are just an unkeyed metalmind that has all the powers of a Fullborn stored in it. They are the same as any medallion, any metalmind, even, just with more stuff. The magical effect of the Bands is that they have large stores of Investiture that can be tapped in them. Said stores just aren't large enough for it to qualify as a Shardblade.
  19. Okay cool. I still don't know how I ended up with an outdated copy... I guess the store is foisting off the last of their stock of the old printings... ughhh
  20. How does he do it, you ask? Lerasium! My guess is that he used a bit of it to become Mistborn, a bit to become a Feruchemist, and will use at least some, if not all the rest to become an Elantrian.
  21. I think I get it, though saying current vs replacement is confusing. If I am right and the replacement is the actual current version, then I have an old copy... how I don't know, since I bought it in the last month. Thanks for finding that for me. I hadn't the first clue where to look.
  22. Ahhh, but the WoB was specifically talking about the Bands. Those aren't a sword, they are a metalmind. It directly said that they were close to qualifying as a Shardblade, but that there simply wasn't enough Investiture. That is where your argument falls apart. If the Bands had been larger (assuming they were at max capacity), or more fully charged, then they would have qualified. This means that his definition is extremely broad. The hunk of metal that makes up the Bands doesn't exactly conduct itself well as a weapon. Either way, his definition is that it is a heavily Invested object that can be used as a weapon. How it qualifies as a weapon is clearly highly subjective, so just a generic heavily Invested sword should count. On that note, would it be possible to create a sentient object with Feruchemy? Maybe compound a whole crapload of Identity or Connection or something. Maybe store it in a Hemalurgic spike? Hmmm... can you even store stuff in a spike?
  23. Well, going back and reading the passages I thought would best describe the effect, it isn't a very detailed description. It is literally just the "eyes smoked and burned. They blackened, shriveling up in his in head." (TWoK prologue pg. 25 of my hardback) I guess you could interpret that either way. They could just literally be combusting, but that would be boring. I always thought it was strange that a Blade through your spine made your eyes burn, but if you say it is mixed with Investiture leaking off the dead soul, it makes more sense. The fact that regular Blades do this too is irrelevant. They were made to mimic the Honorblades, so they probably function very similarly, even though the way they get things done is different. I don't see why it wouldn't be evidence... Nightblood cuts the same things as the various Blade types, plus more. If they are cutting the soul in a similar manner and producing a similar effect, then that is evidence that they work under similar principles. Basically, I am saying that spren Blades are based off Honorblades, and Nightblood was based off dead spren Blades. Nightblood turned out to be more similar to an Honorblade though. I think Nightblood will grant surges as well, if only because plot. It's kinda hard to fight stone shamans running around with a bunch of Honorblades when all you have is a very hard to use Blade. He will probably get surges.
  24. I agree with said speculation. Nightblood eats Breaths to make you a master of combat etc. I knew this question had been RAFO'd, but I haven't seen any comparisons with the black smoke coming from the affected targets.
  25. So in my reread of WoR, I noticed that Syl said that the Honorblade fed on Szeth's Stormlight. I also gave some serious consideration to why people's eyes smoke when they are killed by a Blade of any type. I also thought about what Nightblood would do on Roshar, and I came to a conclusion. Nightblood will function almost exactly the same way Honorblades do. Now, while Heralds will probably get extra perks from their Honorblade than a regular person, as has been discussed elsewhere, I won't dig into that. Nightblood and Honorblades both feed on Investiture. They both make dark smoke come off the people they kill, if for different reasons. They both grant powers to their wielders (that manifest as Surges on Roshar, or at least, Nightblood might anyway). I can't come up with any reason that Nightblood would function massively differently from an Honorblade, except for the obvious bit about making Investiture inaccessible and cutting on all 3 realms.
