  1. I tried, but I couldn't find an article about this. At the end of OB, Moash goes behind the palace in Kholinar and kills an old drunk that we know to be Jezrien (If it's a different herald, I'm sorry) with a dagger that has a gemstone on the hilt. After stabbing the Herald through the heart, the gemstone begins glowing softly. When I first read this, my initial thoughts went to a WoB what stated that Hemalurgy in some form or another could be performed anywhere in the Cosmere. I believe that is what happened when Moash killed the Herald. Thoughts? Has this been confirmed?
  2. It might be possible to hack the magic system, as @Oltux72 said, or using an alloy of Lerasium or Atium. To sum up, as far as we know, it's impossible. However, to quote Sanderson himself, "There's always another secret."
  3. On the topic of Slivers, I personally think that the "deflated balloon" effect has the result, among other things, of being able to retain more Investiture without leaking. In the case of TLR, he would be able to tap metalminds at a much higher rate than would be possible without wasting the storage. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that Breaths leaked out over time, which I presume Slivers would be more resistant to. In the case of giving up power without dying, I think that the reason Vessels have died after giving the power is that what we see is extreme times of Shard transfer, where antagonistic Shards placed external strain on the Shards. With all the ruckus in the Cosmere, it's unlikely that someone would give power to someone unaccustomed to it (see TLR messing with Scadrial's orbit). SO, while it could happen, I think it's unlikely that we will see it (Oathbringer spoilers
  4. Basic theory: Traditions can sometimes stem from things like fear. You could be on to something with the body-snatcher idea. Maybe they thought that if they were near one of the Fused when they died, they would become Fused. Which, for all we know, has merit. Over time, it could have turned into a form of respect.
  5. IMO, the Nightwatcher might be able to heal her. Maya is a spren of Cultivation, after all. Sure, it's beyond most things we've seen or heard the Nightwatcher doing, but Lift is able to turn food into Investiture after paying her a visit. On that note, could Lift potentially help Maya out?
  6. You might be on to something, maybe, maybe not. In my opinion, it could be that Amaram was so power hungry that turning down such a status symbol and indeed a source of power would have been unthinkable to him. You could have a point, though.
  7. In Soviet Roshar, you are stick
  8. the ten orders waking up in the morning Bondsmith: awakes to the national anthem playing Stoneward: wakes up with the sun no matter what. Is known for sleeping later during the winter Willshaper: Tends to sleep in until he notices you start planning for it. Then, wakes up on time Elsecaller: occasionally ignores the alarm, they spent all night studying, after all. Lightweaver: Regularly soulcasts the alarm clock into something, with little thought to the consequences. Fire is the most dangerous, but they have been known to walk out of their room eating a clock-shaped apple Truthwatcher: slaps the alarm, gets up, and has a 5-minute long internal debate about returning to bed. Edgedancer: Awakes to the song "everything is awesome." If they don't sing the whole song, they hit snooze and sit patiently for the song to play again. Dustbringer: Used to disintegrate the clock, but once broke the bed. Now, they just throw the clock at a strategically placed pillow. Skybreaker: wakes up at 5 am, is ready for the day by 5:30 Windrunner: Has to be forcibly removed from duty and has had threats of being imprisoned in their room until they get enough sleep.
  9. Plot twist: Adolin is Odium's champion. Kaladin has to attack him.
  10. Then where do other gemstones come from? Chulls?
  11. Sanderson might call it a hack. Investiture hacks, from what I've seen, involve using one magic system to do the thing another magic system usually does. In this case, using Allomancy to do what Feruchemy does.
  12. Weird side theory: Could one create more kandra by giving Mistwraiths infused gemstones with spren in them?
  13. Correct me, those who are fortunate enough to have the book, but wasn't the Gemheart that Kaladin got from that chasmfiend in WoR yellow? As in, heliodor?
  14. The Dor could be more powerful than the other magics because of the difficulty in accessing it. According to Stormgate's First Law of Magic, the power of a magic system should be inversely proportional to the ability to access it effectively.
  15. In the notification that pops up at the bottom of the screen, characters sometimes get turned into &%$, etc. It's not a major inconvenience, since I can just look at the top of the screen, and not enough characters are mangled to render it unreadable. However, it being fixed would be desirable.
  16. Dystopian fantasy. Medieval spy. Murder book where the killer is a shapeshifter. A superhero origin story in a medieval setting. Take a plot or something that is done in a normal setting, then put it into a different setting or twist it. I like medieval stuff, for example. I'm currently figuring out the specifics for a story with a mad scientist and doomsday device, but the scientist looses his memory and helps his nemesis (who doesn't know his true identity) stop his own plot. I'm also figuring out how to do a story where someone who grew up in a postapocalyptic world goes back in time to before the apocalypse and has to deal with things like not driving any random car, or having to buy food, etc.
  17. The only way the Nightwatcher can think of to do this is to have the pizza disappear while in your stomach. However, you are still hungry. I wish to know, right now, exactly what my life will be like in five years.
  18. I'm just reading the attached link...Sanderson was planning to call Stormlight Archive the Way of Kings, and have a different name for the title. He also wanted, at one point, Oathshards as the series title.
  19. With an allergy, when the individual is exposed to the allergen (the thing that they are allergic to), it causes a noticeable reaction. With environmental allergies, it is often an itchy rash or watery eyes, sometimes stuffy nose. With food allergies, it can be irritation in the mouth (this gets complicated, this reaction means it's not a true allergy, and consistently eating the food can eliminate the reaction), or it could be a rash on the body, often on the face around the eyes, giving the appearance of "raccoon eyes", possibly vomiting to get rid of the allergen, and with either food allergies or environmental (i.e. plants, animal fur, pollen, etc.), an extreme reaction results in swelling of the airway, basically suffocating someone in something called anaphylactic shock. Also, someone must be exposed to the allergen once before they can react, but this gets tricky, because one bite of food can be exposure, and you react to the second. First cat hair is exposure, second causes a reaction. Also, repeated exposure to the allergen can make the reaction worse until it reaches anaphylactic shock. Treatment for allergies is first to expose the individual to the smallest amount of the allergen as possible, then, over a period of weeks and months, sometimes years, slowly increase the amount of the allergen, decreasing the amount when a reaction occurs and giving the body enough time to adjust. So, if someone was allergic to magic, it would cause physical reactions, but likely not spewing fire all over the place. Treatment could be holding a barely magical stone, then two, increasing until they can be 100 feet from the casting of a spell like making some light or lighting a fire, slowly getting closer, then farther away for a more powerful spell like teleportation. So, to change gears after that crash course on allergies, perhaps a magical infection can result in spells acting like dark magic. Say a spell is to light a fire? Everyone around becomes uneasy as the spell is cast, and the magician becomes weaker or something.
  20. Secret History is fairly new, and the knowledge of the 16 Shards definitely does not come from SH. Confirmed by in-world conversation, perhaps, but not new information.
  21. Many of these tidbits come from the annotations.
  22. I have no idea about the answer, but Shinar was a real nation that Shinovar, in name only probably, was based on.
  23. Use some of the air tanks as propulsion devices, and have them hold their breath whenever possible. Fun fact about holding ones breath: if you take in a regular breath and just stop breathing right when you are about to exhale, you can hold your breath longer than if you take in a big gulp. Not confirmed by any scientific study or Internet fun fact, but I have experience.
  24. Fixed it.
