I have a friend who is a Sanderson fan, he loaned me Steelheart. Then the Alloy of Law. He was going to loan me Mistborn books, but I got bored and got them another way. He kept pushing me to read Sanderson books, and right now I am ironically trying to get him to join 17S.

Petition to Make the Name for Copper/Pewter Twinborn "Archifists"
Stormgate replied to DeadFencer's topic in Mistborn
Maybe Coinshot/Aluminum Twinborn are Identiflyers -
While this is fascinating, how did Demoux know about flowers? Vin corners him about it, Demoux asks if Kelsier taught that, which he didn't.

How does Odium Splinter other Shards?
Stormgate replied to Senor Feesh's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If we want to understand how to shatter Shards, we need to better understand what Shards are. Are they simply ideas given power, like spren? That is the only explanation I can think of, but if so, they are unlike any spren we've previously encountered, of course. Anybody have any better ideas?- 28 replies

Why do harmony need spikes to talk to people anyway?
Stormgate replied to king of nowhere's topic in Mistborn
In any case, requiring the use of spikes gives his subjects the choice whether or not to speak to Harmony, filling the role of being more or less balance incarnate. -
Wait, are those captivityspren? The ones that one self-tattooing guy thought were possibly mythical? I never noticed this. Well done!

another thread about black investiture
Stormgate replied to hoidhunter's topic in Stormlight Archive
I see no problem, it fits in a lot of places, putting one more piece of the Cosmere into place. Any chance you could get a WoB on this? I don't think one exists currently, but if you could somehow get the question asked...- 17 replies

Call me the voicer of a Death Rattle, the title will be Oathbringer. No, I'm not actually dying.

I'm sorry, I have no context. I just found a list of things in the Bible, and that popped up. Don't judge me for looking through Biblical topics. There were books involved...

Duel to the Death: The Lord Ruler or Vasher?
Stormgate replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I apologize for the misunderstanding. I pictured TLR's robes attacking him, ripping off his metalminds. -
Anybody else reading these things and really wish they were Mistborn, Feruchemist, and had a large supply of Allomantic metals?
-
He also compounded gold a lot. In TFE, it's said that TLR was once in a burning in, he stepped out a bit more than a skeleton, and within seconds was back to normal. So somebody would still have to compound two metals for immortality.
-
'Spiked' means something completely different on Skadrial...
-
I have had the idea floating around about storing size, and how that would influence ability to use metalminds. Bracelets or necklaces would fall off when storing, only to burst when tapping. I still haven't figured this problem out.
-
Very powerful Allomancy junkies, though. On that note, what would a steel savant do?

In SA, Hoid tells Kaladin that stories are meant to give us questions to think on, and this is one of those questions. Kelsier is, at some level, a sociopath or psychopath, and he ruthlessly kills nobles. However, he has a purpose behind it all, and saves Elend's life. Kelsier is not a good man or a bad man, he is trying to be a good one, though. That's not the question. The question is whether or not Kelsier is a hero, and at their core, a hero gives up everything he is for those he protects, and Kelsier provided Exibit A when he sacrificed himself. Why did he overthrow TLR's empire? For revenge certainly, but also for the skaa. Why did he save Elend? For Vin. That's it. Kelsier is a hero.

Duel to the Death: The Lord Ruler or Vasher?
Stormgate replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You, sir, would likely die within a few minutes of picking up Nightblood. -
Duel to the Death: The Lord Ruler or Vasher?
Stormgate replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Two words: Remove metalminds. Vasher can do more complicated Commands, and we know that removal of metalminds nearly kills TLR. Also, TLR is likely not pure, so he would be attracted to Nightblood. Though he would last for a while, if Vasher was fast enough to stay away from TLR, TLR and all surrounding Inquisitors would die. If you are scratched by Nightblood, you immediately become black smoke. I'm sorry, but nobody can compound fast enough to heal from total, immediate annihilation. Basically, Nightblood wins. -
I'm seeing the 17th Shard thrown around. Is there any evidence that he's a member?

In WoA, Demoux preaches to primitive Survivorists about flowers, a yellow sun, and no ashmounts. When questioned, Demoux had no explanation for how he knew about these things, or that Vin would make them happen. Terris prophecies show that Preservation could see the future. Was Demoux getting Preservation-granted future sight, possibly as a result of the mists?

I have faith that Sanderson will answer our questions cryptically when he isn't willing to RAFO, he may try leading us down the wrong path with some WoB, but any little detail like that is important. Sanderson has bonded an authorspren, and spoken the oaths. If he were to place some detail in the book, especially rhythm, without it meaning something, he would break his oaths.

While I appreciate your comments, especially on Allomancy, I am fairly certain that Breaths are innate Investiture, that Investiture all people in the Cosmere are born with. This is supported by a WoB saying Drabs have no innate Investiture. The Returned Breaths are probably pieces of a Shard, though.
-
Thank you, Ham. Welcome to the 17th Shard.

There are many ways to get the investiture needed for the various magic systems. There is directly consuming it from an outside source, like Stormlight, there is harnessing the innate investiture of others, like Awakening, there is channeling the investiture, never actually taking it in but instead acting more like a water faucet for the power, like AonDor, and then there is Skadrial's Allomancy. Where does the Investiture come from? Is it harnessing the innate Investiture? Or is the Investiture simply stored inside the metal like gemstones on Roshar? Or is the investiture burning through the metal, using it as a pipeline like the faucet? Or is the Investiture accessed in a way we haven't seen before, and every Shardworld has a different method to access Investiture? Edit: Typos
